Acer Aspire Ethos 5951g :: Using Mini PCIe Storage To Empty Slot
Feb 13, 2015
I have aspire ethos 5951g with a 750G HDD and this laptop have a one empty mini PCIe slot and i want to mini PCIe storage for system installing .......
May I use this slot to add mini PCIe SSD ?
And if i may what is the type recommended for this model ?
My laptop is aspire 5601AWLMi. Just opened to upgrade the memory and came across this slot. Its 60mm wide or around 2.5'' length and is slightly smaller than the memory slot.
my question is about the empty mini-pcie slot inside the 5102wlmi. I plugged in a sprint novatel e725 wwan card, but windows doesn't detect anything. Is there a modded bios that detects it?
has anyone tried putting a SSD in the PCIe slot designated for the WWAN in the M1330? Something like this one:[url] ...specifications
And then having a normal hard drive in the 2.5" HDD area for storage or games and stuff. Hopefully they will make these PCIe SSDs much faster and cheaper.
what a mini PCI slot is and does please? I just got another 1Gb Samsung RAM for my Aspire 5610 (AS5613AWLMi) cause I thought the spare slot was for RAM and the guy I got the RAM from off of eBAy now says its a mini PCI slot! I will keep the spare RAM for emergencies but being the 'divvy' I am, I have not the fogiest idea what a Mini PCI slot is or does?
I have a dv5t with an extra mini-pci-express slot open. if anyone's tried this 64gb SSD and used it to run Windows XP or Vista?

It's 149, but I think it's worth the price. I'll have the 64gb for the OS and applications, while the installed hard drive (500gb) will be used for all my personal data.
I have a spare PCI-e slot in my dv2700 (originally for evdo card) and I was wondering if its possible to get a mini-pcie ssd (like from a dell mini) and boot from that.
I am aware there won't be much speed increase, perhaps even a decrease but might be nice to be able to just use the hdd as secondary.
got the Mini 9 at Best Buy yesterday, with 1GB Ram and 8GB HDD.
The HD measured 7.1 GB in Windows with about 3GB free.
I took McAfee Security off it (don't like it and only 30-day trial), loaded AVG Anti-Virus, Windows Defender, Word 2000, and IE 7 and the latest Windows security upgrades.
Now it has less than 1GB left free. (And .NET framework 3.5 wouldn't load - possibly due to memory).
I don't know if there are temporary files that I could delete, but I am concerned that in six months, she won't be able to load security fixes b/c the HD is full.
How are others handling this, and is this typical?
I am considering telling her to return it for an Asus with a real HD. I know there are 16GB and 32GB SSD cards out there, along with external HD's, but don't want to deal with that expense and bother.
just received a Dell 5530 WWAN Mobile Broadband HSDPA KM266 PCIe mini-card which bought from a vendor on ebay today
Owning an XPS M1330, it took a little trial & error finding compatible drivers and the appropriate SW, but I managed it by feeding Dell's website with various Notebook models in order to get to said drivers & SW.
The SW (Ericsson) came from the Dell Mini 9 section (because the ebay vendor told me that's where he got the card in the first place):

I'm thinking about picking up a usb wireless n adapter; which means I won't be needing the internal wireless nic. Since that's a mini PCIe slot, I was wondering if anyone has tried replacing that with one of the many SSDs floating around the web...
2 main questions I have about those:
If they're mini-pciE, why are there sata versions and pata versions out there? There's no sata or pata connector on these cards it seems, the pci-e connector is all there is. Do they somehow use the sata/pata controller on the motherboard via the pci-e bus?
2nd question; would there be any way to boot from one of these? The bios has a bunch of options for booting up, network, usb, usb floppy, etc... but none for mini pci-e or anything like that...
Laptop is a presario C500, more precisely c551nr, broadcom 802.11b/g nic, 80gb toshiba 5400rpm slow ..... hard drive, and a celery 440 running the show..
Acer's aspirational laptops have a new Ethos to them now, and it clearly has something to do with entertainment. The newly revealed 18.4-inch 8943G sports a 1920 x 1080 resolution and a true 5.1 surround sound setup, meaning that somewhere within its shell reside five miniature speakers and a sub. Processor options range all the way up to the quad-core Core i7-820QM, which offers 8MB of built-in cache and a 1.73GHz clock speed that cranks all the way to 3.06GHz when required. ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 graphics and up to 1.28TB of storage (2x 640GB) complete the overkill recipe. The 5943G is basically a scaled down version, offering as it does 1366 x 768 resolution across a 15.6-inch display, a 2.1 internal speaker arrangement, and a merely adequate 640GB storage maximum. The rest of the specs are shared, including a 4,800mAh battery, which should perish quicker than you can say "desktop replacement." Pricing and availability have not yet been announced.
I have found that mouse etc only works from usb3 slot not from other 2 slots, have tried reinstalling drivers for chipset and usb3 ... I can run a fan stand from other 2 but that is all.
Alright I have looked at every single piece of literature I can find and I am stumped. I have an eMachines EM250 (mechanically identical to the AO D250) and I can not for the life of me figure out what the small card slot on the bottom of the computer is. I know the memory slot and the HDD slot but the third slot is a mystery. I think it is a mini-PCI slot for a solid state memory module but I'd like to find a definitive answer before I go any further.
i have an Acer Travelmate 290 that barely starts these days. Fan is starting properly but screen remains black. Sometimes the bootscreen appears and then the screen goes white after some seconds. I can go into BIOS or run Memtest+ for some seconds but it always gets white some time later. I removed all modular parts and exchanged RAMs already. It got worse lately. Whereas the device starts maybe one of 10 attempts and remains stable for seconds it was working for minutes weeks ago. I detached/disassembled the notebook completely already several times. I don't have any Pentium-M replacement so this is the only part i couldn't swap yet.
I measured the cmos coin cell. It holds 2.539V of 3.0V. Looks empty but CMOS values are still ok i think (date is correct if i enter BIOS). Is it possible that the CMOS cell is responsible for those false starts?
The model I am looking to get is the Acer Aspire One 160gb 6 celled battery, 8.9" 1gb Ram WinXP based system.
After reading a bit about people having connectivity problems (very big deal for me in a laptop), I'm scared on whether or not I should buy it. Everything else looked great but I don't really know Acer at all, so the idea that they could have shipped out defective Wifi chips and not fix it due to costs could be a reality.
However, when looking at reviews, it seems like everyone who is having these problems have 1) the LINUX version, and 2) the NON-6 celled battery version (120gb Aspire 512 ram 349$ version) and no one seems to differentiate between these (I don't know if it actually makes a difference though).
So, are there connectivity problems on the Acer Aspire One or is this an isolated problem that could happen to all notebooks?
I would like to know is it possible to add second drive into the system. Cause i saw from other acer website, they do have laptop version with 1tb hdd+ 256ssd dual storage version.
I brought a new mini wifi card for my laptop so i could get 5gh wifi due to an upgrade in my broadband.
I did some research and found that supposidly the Intel Centrion Advanced 6205 card is compatible with my laptop.
I downloaded the most recent drivers and install the card.
Device manager see's it and states drivers are installed but has error code 10 -' device cannot start.
I check the registry which did not seem to have the problems in as reported by other forums (something about upper and lower filters) I when into bios setup and restored defaults.
Tried down-grading the driver to an older version but still the same problem. I even took it out and re-installed the card.
there seems to be an invisible file in the trash been as it says "1 Item" but i can't see it, when I empty the bin it makes the sound but bin icon shows there's still trash? when i boot into Win7 via vmware the file disappears and the bin icon shows it emptied but when vmware is shutdown it reappears?
I currently have an AA1 and am curious to those who tried typing on both the HP Mini and the AA1 keyboards and noticed a difference. I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).
