I have a spare PCI-e slot in my dv2700 (originally for evdo card) and I was wondering if its possible to get a mini-pcie ssd (like from a dell mini) and boot from that.
I am aware there won't be much speed increase, perhaps even a decrease but might be nice to be able to just use the hdd as secondary.

It's 149, but I think it's worth the price. I'll have the 64gb for the OS and applications, while the installed hard drive (500gb) will be used for all my personal data.

I'm thinking about picking up a usb wireless n adapter; which means I won't be needing the internal wireless nic. Since that's a mini PCIe slot, I was wondering if anyone has tried replacing that with one of the many SSDs floating around the web...
2 main questions I have about those:
If they're mini-pciE, why are there sata versions and pata versions out there? There's no sata or pata connector on these cards it seems, the pci-e connector is all there is. Do they somehow use the sata/pata controller on the motherboard via the pci-e bus?
2nd question; would there be any way to boot from one of these? The bios has a bunch of options for booting up, network, usb, usb floppy, etc... but none for mini pci-e or anything like that...

just received a Dell 5530 WWAN Mobile Broadband HSDPA KM266 PCIe mini-card which bought from a vendor on ebay today
Owning an XPS M1330, it took a little trial & error finding compatible drivers and the appropriate SW, but I managed it by feeding Dell's website with various Notebook models in order to get to said drivers & SW.
The SW (Ericsson) came from the Dell Mini 9 section (because the ebay vendor told me that's where he got the card in the first place):

I want to boot the netbook with an XP boot disk and from there I can try and recover things. My problem is getting as far as C:
No CD drive so I've put the following files on a memory stick...Boot.iniNTLDRNTDETECT.COM
When I put the stick in and boot the netbook I can choose the boot device, select memory stick but am getting the message that no boot files exist on the drive.

So I've had this problem for a while now and I cannot seem to get a fix for it. When I first bought my computer it was so fast. I would be able to run azerus, iTunes and Firefox with multiple tabs while watching HD videos on gametrailers with a perfectly good frame rate, and everything worked flawlessly.
However now I can hardly watch a video on youtube, the frame rate drops incredibly low and any video, unless is extremely low quality is hardly watchable. The fan is loud (which after reading a few threads found out was pretty common) and the laptop runs pretty hot. I've always ran Trend Micro AntiVirus (recommended from bestbuy) and even now there is no virus detected.
The real downer comes when I look at the task manager performance tab to try and figure out whats going on. I'll notice the processor speeds (on both) are very inconsistent and jump around. Also the physical memory never goes over 1.7gigs of usage. Even when the processor is running at 100% and I have multiple programs open it sort of peaks at 1.7 gigs. So right now I'm thinking that for some reason the laptop isn't accessing all of the available ram and is bottle necking the processor. HOWEVER, I ran Memory Test for 8 hour straight (overnight) and only then did the physical memory peak at 4gigs.
I'm looking at the Mi edition as it is cheaper. Would it be possible to partition the HD and dual boot XP Professional on the partition?
Also, are there any larger PATA HDDs to purchase?
My hard drive just failed on my pavilion dv2700. I was told I could upgrade from a 5400rpm drive to a 7200rpm. Is this true? And what hard drives do you recommend?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been reading the threads related to HP notebooks with defective nVidia GPUs and just out of curiosity, I checked the 8400M GS GPU in my roommate's HP dv2700 notebook, which normally runs @ 80 - 90 deg C, using GPU-z software. The sensor data matched the default core / memory clock for 8400M GS, when under stress. But I got confused when I saw that the shader tab is disabled .
I do not know if somebody else has already come across this situation. I searched here and could not find a similar reported problem, hence this thread. Am I missing something here or is there someone out there having the same problem. Can it be something related to an older ForceWare version (156.65)?
How can I get the exact resolution of 1360x768 (720p) in my HP dv2700 using the HDMI cabel? I currently have the 179.48 drivers installed and I couldnt figure a way to get a 1360x768 !? I tried using customs resolution but it wont work, the TV (samsung) keeps giving me a 1920x1080 which is not the native resolution.
I also own a desktop with an Nvidia 8800gt graphics card and it recognizes the 1360x768 resolution immediately, I dont why this is happening since both the laptop and desktop use similar drivers?
i'm trying to buy a blu ray drive for my DV2700. My model has the hd dvd player, but i know they came out with a blu ray drive for it as well.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure out the difference between the two other than the casing (one's metal and one's plastic). The 2140 uses a SATA connector vs a PATA connector. So for $25 extra(lowest config 2140 vs highest config 1000) you get a metal case and SATA connector?
Why would anyone buy the 1000? Am I missing something? Oh and the 2140 has a higher volatage adapter for 'fast charging'...what's left for the 1000?
Have not been on my mini hp 110 for around 6 months I open it up today and it is asking me to enter my cerebral password, it is a black screen with White text I habe tried to enter in the password and it ask me to enter it 3 times, it then brings up .. Password checked failed, fatal error.. System halted and brings up my serial number

When I unplug the USB dongle, it boots just fine. I've already tried to find a way to fix it through the BIOS, but so far nothing's worked.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIn mid November 2012 my laptop Inspiron Midi 1012 (with window 7 starter) suddenly stopped booting up.
I press the power button and I get the Dell Inspiron page & loading bar where I can also select F2 for set up & F12 for boot options or simply wait for boot up
Another page will appear (if I just wait at the Dell Inspiron logo page with loading bar) saying windows did not shut down succesfully. If this was due to the system not responding, or if the system was shut down.... & ask me to select booting option between safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode prompt or start windows normally.
I tried selecting every mode but to no notable result the only things that happens is that the Microsoft Corporation logo appears with a loading bar for 2-3 seconds then the screen will turn back and only my white arrow will be visible on the screen. At this time, no keys & short cut keys will work. The light of my computer is till on, I can still see some luminosity on the black screen. I can move the arrow around on my screen. The black screen won't change if I let it be for minutes or hours, no windows will pop up if I put a usb memory stick or plug my external cd/dvd player in the usb outlet.
I tried to use a usb transfer cable between my tower pc & my laptop Inspiron Mini but it doesn't work since windows doesn't boot on my laptop.
I tried F12 (boot option) when my computer start & selected diagnostic but there is no error detected (in short & long diagnostic, test memory, test system). I also tried the other booting options but to no avail (hard drive, network, ...).
I'm a owner of a HP Mini 5101. It has a function to press F11 to return the system into the "out-of-the-box" state. But my problem starts here. When I press F11 I imediately get a screen that says Windows Boot manager on top and and error : 0xc000000e and required device is inaccessible.
This started after I made a "clean" install with the DVD Windows 7 that came with the computer as I tried to avoid all the "crapware" that comes included with the new notebook.
If I boot into Windows, the HP_RECOVERY partition is visible and the HP recovery image is on it.
Is there anyway to get the F11 recovery back to working state?
Since yesterday, i can not find how to go to bios setting or how to go to booting option.I have read all articles on this forum about pressing esc, f9, or f10 when notebook begin starting.But never work. All of this button never work.
Combination with fn button, but it also didn't work. Everytime i press fn+f9 or fn+f10 when notebook begin start doesn show bios or booting menu.
Does it becouse i use windows 8? My notebook is HP Mini 110-3500 with Windows 8 in it.
Then i try to search 'how to go to bios setting in windows 8', i found many articles, most of them using UEFI bios setting. But on my HP Mini there is no UEFI setting?
