View 4 Repliesfirst laptop i've gotten with a 17" screen. don't normally watch dvd's on computers but it supports blu ray and i'd like to give it a whirl. what all is considered the best program for playback and what is the recommended aspect ratio and whatnot? same question for just basic avi tv/dvdrips.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi know nothing about the ins and outs of wireless connection. i picked up a linksys wrt54g when i got my first laptop around 4 years ago. it was plug and play for the most part as i remember it and it's given me no issues. i've only started reading into an upgrade as i've heard the N (looking into the WRT160N) can give much more impressive transfer rates. just wanted to know if the 1170us has both options built in, and if not, what i'd need to accomplish an N connection.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi only have experience hooking up an amp to my computers via USB but have learned recently that optical is the way to go. i don't see it anywhere in the specs but can anyone verifiy if there is or isn't one on this unit? s/pdif as well.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi purchased a dv7-1170us about a week ago. love it a lot, would like to preserve its looks more than my prior dated black lenovo i beat around. the machine looks great brand new but is a definite smudge magnet. do any of you that really baby your gear use anything special? i'm planning on ordering some monster screen cleaner and keyboard cleaner by a company called 3m, unless you have better screen/key ideas. i'm sure it's well covered but don't see much about what everyone uses on the other surface areas, the top, trackpad, speaker area. anything special? old t shirt and water?
View 10 Replies View Relatedi'm on a dv7-1170us. it's new as of a couple weeks or so. i haven't defragged a computer in several years. i've read numerous ways to do it, some which don't necessarily work, also people that say after a defrag the computer will have taken of several GB of space. i'd obviously like to do it without that.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi've got a toslink to mini hooked up to an amp. i set my playback to spdif and begin playing an mp3, the sound bar is responding moving up and down but i'm still getting no sound and i know it's not the amp. is there a step i'm missing here?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Dv5t and I have Logitech Z-5500 speakers, how do I use the SPDIF digital, the Dv5t doesn't have the SPDIF input. In the IDT audio menu it has the option but says only thru the HP dock and Im not shelling out 100 bux for that. what can i do to use the SPDIF or Optical cables, even the analog cables?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy new Acer Aspire 6930 supposedly has the option of using the line output also for SPIDIF. Despite the fact that I have this all set up in Vista, I can't seem to get it working. I've used SPIDF with my old PC on my receiver (I ALWAYS did) so I know that everything on the software and hardware side of my digital receiver is ok. However, it doesn't seem to deliver a signal out of that jack anyway and I've tried plugging both the left and right outputs of my RCA cable into the digital coax input of my Onkyo. Do I need a special cable to get this working or what?
I can always use analog out to my receiver, but why when digital is so much cleaner? Besides, sometimes I want my 5.1 surround!
I bought the Z5500 Logitech (5.1 Speakers) and the coxial cable (1 RCA plug to 1 RCA plug) but I cant make it work.. so can any1 help me please to make it work..
I have this cable adapter got it from dell to connect it to the spdif.
I have an inspiron E1705/9400 and i was wondering how the spdif function works on this laptop. I was reading some threads and some users mentioned that the s-video dongle, part # TJ965 works with E1705. I watch a lot of online videos/live events on sopcast/tvu player so i was wondering if the audio from those videos would come on my tv?
Has anyone tried it ?
Is spdif only for DVDs?
Also, i bought this crappy S-video to 3 rca shown here but all this does is show video and only if i plug in all three rca outputs to my tv...weird.
Those of you who have a newer Studio 15, does it have an optical out on it? I'm looking at getting a Studio and having the optical is pretty important to me.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHaving bought my first notebook I wanted to connect it to my 6.1 sound system. Using a 3.5 stereo jack to 2 phono leads plugged into the headphone socket I get nothing. I have tried several leads.
My sound system is a Marantz SR4300 and works fine with my Asus powered desktop but wont register the Acer. I have nothing else to try it with, but the headphones work fine. Is this a compatability issue or could the spdif be not working.
I have updated the driver to 6.01. from 5340. This model number seems to be a UK version but the label inside says 5610.
is there any good speakers(5.1) with spdif so I can hook it to my m1730..
I have 5.1 speakers but does not support spdif and I have a lot of wires and I want to get rid of them asap so am looking for good 1s with spdif...
is it better to hook the spdif or use the normal jacks(speakers+line out+mic), can u tell me if there is any differance between them please?
I'm awaiting shipment of a duo core 1410 Acer. My intent was on using it primarily as a HTPC. I know it has HDMI/spdif outputs but I have been told when inputting into my receiver from either of these outputs, sound will be limited to stereo 2 channel audio.

View 6 Replies View RelatedAnyone gotten sound from the SPDIF/headphone-jacket? I've connected a digital cable to this jacket to my reciever but i dont get any sound at all. I've changed to "Realtek Digital Out" in the sound options. Maybe there's some setting to switch this from analog(headphone) to SPDIF or maybe this is done automaticly?
I really hope i dont need to buy a HDMI-reciever to get digital out from this laptop, already spent much on this laptop
I have a new Aspire 8935G with Realtek audio (AL889, if I read it well) and I'm not able to use digital output.
I tried using a common stereo jack to RCA cable, using just the left (black) RCA to plug into the digital COAX input of my ampilfier, but nothing came from the speakers.
Do you know how to setup the digital output of the Aspire?

View 5 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have a good way to OC this laptop other than using ClockGen? I am basically wondering if there is a BIOS option. I know there are some OC guides out there, but this laptop is almost 3 years old, and as far as I can tell does not have an option in the BIOS. Also, my proc is the T2600, not the one is this review, but other than that exactly the same. I am looking to play around with this because it is old and I dont care too much if I fry it since my new hotness is on the way.

I'm using Vista Home Premium 64 bit.
By the looks of the bottom of my laptop it seems it might be mxm compatible as there are lots of removable pieces... including one that looks alot like an mxm slot. I know that this laptop can be configured to come with the 9200m. This is a fairly brand new model but could someone tell me whether this thin is mxm compatible?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIve just about had it with Vista on my laptop and want to try a new OS before I junk this thing. Is anyone running Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z AMD 64 bit laptop? The machine is about a year old and I have 4gb of RAM and the thing is a dog. Ive used Ubuntu in the past on Dell laptops and its a pain to get everything running wireless drivers, flash, etc. Win7 being a RC may or may not have everything up to speed on for my machine.
So, if you have Win7 or Ubuntu on a HP DV5z please give me a shout, good or bad.

Other than 17 vs 16 inch screen are their any benefits to build quality from 1 to the other?
I will be travelling so I would prefer the lesser HDX 16 incher but build quality is a concern
I travel by plane, train, bus every weekend so it needs to be able to handle a little beating
