View 2 RepliesThis afternoon, I erased the hard disk of my Macbook Pro 13'' with the idea that I had carefully saved all data on my external hard disk. After OSX Leopard was installed, I attempted to restore my Firefox profile to only find out that I had copied the wrong data to my external hard disk. Namely, the Firefox cache data instead of the profile itself.
The Firefox cache data can be found in 'user name' -> library -> caches -> Firefox -> Profiles, whereas I apparently should have copied the profile that can be found in 'user name' -> library -> application support -> Firefox -> Profile.
Now it seems that I didn't format the system properly as there are several files in the trash bin that I deleted before I erased the hard disk - even though I did erase the disk through the Disk Utility.
Therefore, I want to know whether there is any possibility to retrieve the profile that I need in order to restore my bookmarks/configuration for Firefox.
My laptop's wifi drivers are current. It will not load webpages after connecting to my wireless network. This is a known good network (iphones, ipads, macs can connect no problem and load pages). The Acer will connect, but it will not load webpages. Via ethernet, it works fine. No issues.
View 1 Replies View Relatedin the last week or so I have been getting Spinning beach ball of death just doing stuff like web browsing, word processing, etc. They will last aboot 10 seconds or so. And now today My external monitor will dim and come back consistently on certain web pages. It seems to change depending on where my mouse is on the page.
I have lots of hard drive space left and Plenty of RAM.
I'm thinking about snagging a copy of iWork 2009 because, well, I don't like Office 2008 even though I paid a marginal price for the suite as available from my medical school. I realize that Office 2011 is coming within the next seven months or so, but until then...
I haven't been able to find a thing out about iWork 2010, so I'm assuming I'd just spring for the '09 version. In experimenting with the trial, I've noticed that even a simple import of a text-only .docx is formatted differently; it seems like the line spacing is different, because in the imported .pages that Pages makes from the source .docx I made, there are two additional lines of text on the first page. Why is this?
My big thing is that all created works must be easily taken to a different platform; I like OS X, but I have no allegiance to it or to Apple, and if a solid competitor to the 15" MBP comes along, I would seriously consider switching back to Windows 7. I rarely need to share .doc/.docx (or any other Office suite) files with others for their own editing, so PDF exports would suffice most of the time.
I know that .pages files are essentially archives containing XML data and a .pdf of the document, but I'd hate to have to hand-convert a bunch of XMLs if I did switch back. And sadly, Pages doesn't natively save to a .doc/.docx -- it only exports (though I did read about a hack to change that some time ago). Formatting mismatches for something as minor as line spacing are just concerning.
Frequently have the problem of getting stuck on web pages and having to close out the page and then open it up again. Â For example, am selling items on ebay and during the listing process - particularly when loading a photo - page freezes and am unable to navigate up or down or click on anything to move out of the page. Â When I attempt to reload the page the laptop seems to make an effort to do this but with no results. Â Have been clearing browsing data to see if that works but no luck. Â I am running Windows 7.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Dell Inspiron is showing as connected to the internet with a strong signal but no pages are loading and my other laptop next to it is connecting fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy Thinkpad T520, Windows 7 Pro takes over a minute to load any webpage after waking from sleep. The wifi icon shows that the network has connected to the internet after about 10 seconds from wake up. But if I attempt to use a browser to load any webpage, I must wait nearly a minute before the page will load. After that, pages load quickly.
Â
This problem occurs in multiple browsers (FF, IE, Chrome). I am using Intel Centrino Advanced N-6205 wireless adapter. I've updated the wireless driver and BIOS. I've cleaned out my registry using CCleaner, and I've defragmented.

One bit of advice I've read that I've tried from these forums does NOT work: Uncheck from Device Manager under the Power Management tab for my wireless adapater the option to Allow the Computer to Turn Off This Device to Save Power. Unchecking that option (which would seem to keep the driver on) makes the problem worse because the wifi will not reconnect at all.
I am a Macbook owner for about a year now and since I've had it I've had problems with the Login Keychain. When using Safari it asks for me to use the login keychain every few pages. This confuses me as I never set it up in the first place. Also it asks for me to use the login keychain everytime I launch Skype which is a pain in the . The only cause of this I can think of is that my IT department at college thought it would be clever to set up a login keychain before they handed my Macbook over to me and not tell me the password. I've tried my main password to log into my Macbook and its keeps saying the password is invalid. not a massive problem but still would like to get to the bottom of it.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Pavilion dv5-1203ax with AMD Turion X2 and ATi Mbility Radeon HD 3450.
I have a strange issue.. the system stops charging the battery at anytime...sometimes it charges the battery properly and other time it stops at 40 % , 50 % , 90 % etc.
The battery charges to 100 % normally when Windows is off and power suply is left on...
I changed the battery but the problem still exists
While the battery charges... HP Battery Check show Good when it does not, the battery check shows Replace...
I've formatted the system and tried Vista twice and Windows 7 also and recaliberated the battery but to no success...
Is it the motherboard...
I'm currently looking into buying a new ultraportable laptop or netbook and this notebook looks like it fits my needs perfectly. My old 15.4" laptop is starting to show it's age and is becoming a pain to lug around campus all day. Plus the battery life is starting to decrease to under 1:30 hours..
Is there any word when this notebook will be available? I read that it's going to be sometime this month. How much will it be with the external DVD or Blu-ray drive? And are there going to be any other battery options other than the standard 4-cell? I'm probably only willing to purchase this notebook if it gets 4-5+ hours of battery life.. so how long do you think it will last?
I have decided to buy an HP Pavilion dv6.i dont know the exact model no. but here's the configuration...

View 4 Replies View Relateddespite the fact that it can only use 3 of its 4 gigs of RAM, I still love my new DV5.
There's only one, tiny kink...
It's getting hot. Very hot. My hands aren't burning, but I can feel the heat in my palms.
Speedfan readings:
Core 0: Average temperature's around 47C
Core 1: Avg. Temp. is 49C
GPU: Here's the real problem. IT'S ON FREAKING 54C!!!
These temperatures are bloody DANGEROUS. And I'm going to be using this for gaming.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just seen this HP laptop on www.play.com and it looks pretty amazing! It's up for pre-order coming out on Friday and is £599, here are its specs:
Processor: AMD Turion X2 mobile processor RM-75 / 2.2 GHz
Memory: 4GB
HD Capacity: 320GB
Display: 15.6"
Graphics Card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 - 1GB
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit
Dimensions (WxDxH): 37.9 cm x 25.8 cm x 4.1 cm
Weight: 2.9 kg

The only thing that stops me from just pre-ordering this laptop is the fact it hasn't been released yet and so there aren't any reviews saying whether it's good or bad that and that I have never used AMD instead of Intel and the last ATI graphics card I had was shocking to say the least. What do you guys think? Are HP laptops good, reliable etc and are these specs that great?
I bought the laptop two days ago and it seems an excellent laptop.
I had some problems with creating system recovery Dvd, but eventually i recognized that the problem was in the type of dvd i used. I changed the type of dvd and created the system recovery discs, and everything is working quite well!
I'd be very glad to keep in touch with all those who purchased this series.
HP pavilion dv4 1225ee
My Pavilion dv8333ea's (specs here) GPU died the other day
It was getting old (3.5 years) but I'd never had a problem with it before and aside from the GPU it still works fine (except the screen looks like it may have been programmed by Picasso (random pixels everywhere!).
If this were any other laptop, I'd just replace it, but there was something special about this one: It had a firewire port with a Texas Instruments chipset (this is the Holy Grail of firewire audio recording). Plus, it genuinely was a good laptop
i have notebook dv9000 and works so fine and then today i try to turn on notebook and just show me the led power and then after a few sec turn off every thing.
View 4 Replies View Relatedabout the dv6-1268nr that Newegg is selling for $800. I am looking for an affordable, pre-built laptop to replace my busted Studio 1555 and this really caught my eye. The only thing that is holding me back right now is I have some experience with AMD processors and they tend to have heat issues. The reviews on Newegg also say this but they don't seem like expert reviews.
The only reason I created a new topic is because the dv6 thread has basically been dead since the HDX 16 came out.
It's pretty nicely specced out, but I won't go over the details, since the GPU and processor have nothing to do with it.
It comes with 4GB of DDR2 RAM, but it's only running a 32-bit OS (or so the box says). Does that mean that only 3GB will be used?
if it does have a 64-bit version of Vista, there's another problem. My backup for my old system was for Vista 32-bit. Will this cause problems on a 64-bit OS? Microsoft support says that some models may face problems when running 32-bit backups on a 64-bit OS, but is this one of them?
when I brought out my old HP dv5228TX laptop for a 3 month trip. When i brought it with me, the power cord was already burnt through around the adaptor so i bought a new one immediately. The problem is, i kept getting blue screen of death whenever i do ANYTHING in windows, which was a major annoyance. I thought it might have been the CD-ROM that was beginning to be faulty or dying so i disabled it in hardware manager. When the BSODs wouldn't go away, i thought it might have been a memory hardware problem. I set out to find 1gb ddr2 memory (2 of them) but since they were 45$ each, i thought i might as well wait until my trip to taiwan before i hastily bought it here (since taiwan has cheaper hardware).
Now previously i had owned a NuSlim MOBILE disk case so that i can take out the harddrive in my HP pavilion laptop to access the files in case the computer itself failed. So when the Blue screen of death wouldn't go away, I decided to use the NuSlim mobile disk to store my HP hard drive and use it on my HP Presario B1900 laptop as a USB Drive. I searched on the internet and learned that you can boot directly from a USB drive. When i decided to boot from my "hp pavilion hard drive" the USB way, a MBR error popped up. Which meant that the hard disc itself had a bad master boot sector. This was a slap in the face because my Blue screen of death could have been all attributed to a corrupted hard drive. When i discovered this, I immediately tried to put my harddrive back into my HP pavilion so that i can run recovery manager directly via F11 at startup.
Now here is my problem! Not only does it not let me go into recovery manager at all at start up when i press F11, windows does not even boot. The weird thing is, when I put the harddrive into the NuSlim mobile disk, all the files works (including the recovery partition).
Is it possible to reformat my entire hard drive back to factory condition since the recovery partition is techinically there? It just won't let me enter it possibly due to bad master boot sector. I even tried to access the recovery partition itself through the USB via my HP presario. Is it also possible to create a recovery disc if i have access to this recovery partition even though booting it from the HP pavilion itself doesn't seem to work? Please help as soon as possible because i do not wish to purchase a recovery disc from HP since i do not have warranty anymore (and since i have the recovery partition anyway). the OS i'm using is Windows XP and i tried looking on the HP website for the recovery order form but apparently they dont have it. I do not wish to purchase the Vista recovery disc since my HP pavilion is only 1gb and it will not run well on vista.
I forgot my power-up password. How can I reset it. Called Hp and they want my first born for a laptop that is a number of years old. Nephew had similar problem with a Dell and we were able to prove over the phone that we were the original owner and they supplied a master password. HP will not do the same with their product.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm considering paying the extra $100 to add in the 256MB ATI Radeon HD 3450 to the dv5z I'm customizing...
My question is if I add that in does this machine make use of the "Hybrid Crossfire " capabilities and have the integrated and dedicated work together?
A friend of mine has a Pavilion dv4-1225dx notebook and spilled some wine that according to him hardly hit the laptop, but something happened as it doesn't want to work anymore.
He called HP and the notebook was shipped to them, then he got a call and they told him that the warranty was void as there was liquid damage.
I took the thing, put it my Vista DVD from my Dell and it did start up, but just before it wanted to install it couldn't find the hard drive and asked me for a driver I don't have. I did download all the drivers from the HP support site but I'm not sure if that driver was even there. Nothing of what I downloaded worked.
Ran the memory and hard drive test and hard drive test failed. Replaced the hard drive with a new one that was already formatted and ran the test again. At least this time it did see a hard drive, though the test failed again and it gave me some error code (think it was 10008).
Could this be a driver issue or might it be the mother board? I don't think it's worth putting a lot of money in the notebook but if it's a driver issue I'd try to fix it.
Basically I don't even get to the point where I could install Windows as it seems to be unable to address the hard drive.
