I cannot adjust the brightness of my display using the Fn keys or the Control Panel... I have already had to replace my battery once... I need to be able to adjust the brightness in order save my battery life!

Using the function key the little panel of brightness volume shows up on the screen but does nothing. And in control panel, through either the bottom brightness scroll or the power option won't change anything. Only time when the brightness will change is I unplug the power, but in the power settings it won't let me change/adjust the brightness.
And what is the battery function key for? I press it and it does nothing. XPS L521x

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Pavilion dv6-6173cl laptop. It's been working fine until recently, when I left it on overnight to finish downloading a huge file. When I tried to adjust the brightness the next morning, I couldn't (though it was still at full brightness like I always keep it). So I thought, "why not reboot it?" I rebooted and now the display is the dimmest it can get with no way of adjusting the brightness using the brightness keys, control panel, or otherwise.
This has happened before. When it did, I did a factory reset on it and it fixed the problem. However, although there is no absolutely critical data on there and I can always make a backup, I prefer to not have to go through all that if it's avoidable. I have an external display that HP asked me to connect it to to see if it was a hardware or software issue. The external display was at full brightness, so when they asked me to ship it in I did a factory reset and that solved the problem. And now it's back.
Brightness Hot Keys are not working after installing Win 8.1 x64. Along with this Touchpad Lock also not working. I am using Pavillion G6 2225TU Note Book x64 bit.

It recently just downloaded the new HP Assistant and I wanted to adjust the brightness because it was too bright for the dark room I was in. I tried using the F2 and F3 keys to lower the brightness and I tried to adjust it from settings and control panal but the brightness doesn't adjust when I move it up or down. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a zbook with a nvidia quadro 610m graphics. I cannot get the gpu to save settings or engage when playing games. It was working until I tried to give windows 8 a try.I did a fresh install of windows 8. Then I installed the hp drivers cd that came with workstation. Everything says it completed successfully and I've rebooted multiple times.
When I open the nvidia control panel, none of the settings I change stick. E.g. tell every program to use the 610m. I click apply it looks like it was successful. However, if I open the nvidia control panel again, all changes are reverted. I restarted after hitting apply too. It doesnt matter what the changes are, they all revert.
I'm guessing I screwed up with the driver install or something but IDK.The device manager says that the 610m is working properly and the driver is up do date.
I have installed Windows 8.1 and install most of the drivers fro HP reccomended link. Even after that I am not able to adjust my brightness and WIFI .

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having the same trouble with my brand new 8460p : the brightness of the display can not be adjusted with the function keys (fn+F-keys) while in Windows. In other threads the problem has been solved by installing newest chipset drivers (which was not provided by HP), but in these threads the computer has been an earlier model. 8460p has the new QM67 express chipset and currently I'm running the latest drivers (according to intel's detection web site) for it.
I'm running a fresh install of Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit with all the latest drivers.
I do have HP Envy M6 1216 Tx notebook and its brightness keys are not working.
