I just bought ThinkPad T430 and optical bay adapter IB-AC642 [URL] for my ssd 128 OCZ VERTEX 4. I put ssd into optical bay but thinkpad doesn't recognize it. I try with different disc but I have the same problem.
My optical bay adapter with this sdd OCZ VERTEX 4 is working in my another laptop so the problem is only with thinkpad. I tried to change bios settings but it didn't work.

I've owned a ThinkPad T430 for about one year now. Originally I was fairly impressed with the battery life (around 4.5 hours) but now after owning it for a year I am very unimpressed with it's short 3 hour life now.
I have read that batteries should be expected to do this, although I have friends with a MacBook Pro which has lost maybe 20% of it's charge over three years not one year like my ThinkPad!
My specs are listed below:
OS: Windows 8 (upgraded from 7)
Ram: 8GB (4*2 DIMM - came with 4GB and I upgrade it with 4 more)
CPU: i5-3210M 2.5GHZ
Hard Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD (upgraded from the 320GB 7200RPM HDD before...if I have got those specs right)
I recently installed the new SSD and expected to see my battery life shoot up again (hopefully at least half an hour) but I really haven't noticed any such improvement.
I use the battery frequently for school and run the battery down to about 20% maybe twice a week on school weeks?
Is this kind of deterioration to be expected and should I simply purchase a new battery if I need that extra 1.5 hours?
According to the Windows 8 battery report the original full charge capacity was: 49,286 mWh, now it is: 39,780 mWh.

I have purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad T430. This laptop came with pre-installed Windows 7 Pro. However I want to use Windows 8 which I have a recovery disc for.
I built in a SSD instead of the optical drive. So I don´t have a optical drive. On this SSD I want to run my OS.
With a software from Samsung (manufacturer of my SSD) I was able to copy the Windows7 OS on my SSD.
As I mentioned above I bought a laptop with installed windows 7 pro and a Windows 8 upgrade disc. Therefore I got the "Operating System Recovery Dis Windows 8 Pro. (OEM Activation 3.0 Required)".
The problem now is that I have an upgrade disc but no optical drive. So I created an image of the upgrade disc and with this image I have created a bootable USB stick with the following program:
[URL] ....
When I boot my laptop using the bootable USB stick everything seems to be working until to the point where I have to accept the EULA.
So I chose a language, and clicked on "I accept the agreements".
When I want to click on "next" I got a error message "recovery failed".
Please have a look on the following picture taken with my smartphone. The language used in this picture is german as i live in Austria.
Link to image
How I can upgrade to Windows 8? Why the upgrade disc is not working?

My Thinkpad T430, less than a year old, is having issues - corrupted .dll files, Windows Update not working, all sorts of fun stuff. I've exhausted pretty much every other option I can find to try to repair this at this point. The nuclear option is a reset to Lenovo factory settings from the Windows repair environment accessed by pressing F8 during boot, but before I do that I want to understand *exactly* what I would be doing to my computer.
Specifically: will a factory reset return all Windows system files to their original state, meaning there is no chance that the issues I'm having will persist? Will it guarantee that Windows Update will work again and that all of my .dll and other system files will be in a fresh, non-corrupted state? Does the process replace current system files with original versions that were installed on the computer?
I just don't want to restore to factory settings and find that Windows Update still won't work and now I have to install over a year's worth of updates manually from the Microsoft website, one by one, or go through the trouble of having to reinstall all of my programs, get my files back on the computer, fix settings to be as I want them again, etc. only to not have these issues fixed.

I'm looking at a refurbished T430 online, but want the 1600x900 screen - can't find specs for that model anywhere. it's not in any of the PSREF docs at the Lenovo site. If the 2355-A17 has the 1600x900 resolution screen?

I believe my fingerprint reader died a death after a windows update. I have tried reinstalling drivers several times but no luck, the computer doesn't even seem to recognise that a scanner even exists anymore. Its incredibly frustrating...well not as bad as this constant blue screen and crashing. I don't really understand the reason for it, but to be fair I don't really know what im looking for when the blue screen appears....it mentions something about a usb driver i believe. There isnt even anything plugged in to any ports when the crashes take place.
Im really not happy about these issues with a laptop that is no more than 6 weeks old.

Just to clarify, my laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad T420i, Type 4178. It is about 2 years old. I have Windows 7 64bit.
My laptop takes about 2-5 minutes to switch on, sometimes it doesn't turn on at all. The screen freezes every 15 seconds or so, but I am still able to move my cursor around. It also lags quite a bit. For example, typing 'how to download google chrome' will take me sometimes an entire minute, because only parts of the sentence will show up on the screen at a time. My keyboard is responding fine. The problem is not with the wireless internet, because even when the wireless is off the laptop is still unbelievably slow. Watching videos is impossible, because the screen freezes so much.
I have been having this problem with my laptop's performance speed for about 2 months now. I had it completed wiped back to factory settings, downloaded every malware and virus scanner known to man (none of them found any problems with it) and updated all my drivers.

My T420 takes about 20 seconds from pushing the power on button to the Lenovo POST screen. After that boot takes about 30 seconds to Desktop. What bothers me is this long wait until I see the POST screen. It doesn't seem normal to me.
My System is setup with Windows 7 64bit booting from UEFI on a mSATA Crucial M500 SSD. It has 16GB of Ram and a i7 CPU. I have the newest BIOS (1.46) installed.
Why it takes this long to reach the POST screen?

Lenovo T400 to install Windows XP on it..It previously worked fine with windows 7 and 8.1.so it boots in windows XP preinstall screen, it formats hdd and like usual installation automatically restarts after that BUT its black screen, lights and sounds show that it works and goes to next screen BUT the screen is still black. Powering down and turn on again is not showing any screen picture. Opened it removed Bios battery, turned up after few on and off it starts it reset bios.
So now there is picture and it goes on the next screen of windows instalation like normal, after installing devices and stuff it automatically restarts like usual BUT it has NO screen again, black screen, lights and sounds again show that its loading windows end instalation screen but no picture on the screen. Reset BIOS again, it starts normaly and this time it shows BSoD with code 0x7B, after BSOD Black screen again..Maybe its a BIOS setting?!? tried installing with drivers for AHCI and tried installing without drivers for Compatible , what else can it be? Updated the bios to latest version, same result. To say it again - it works fine with other windows, but XP must be installed

I have a T420s that I bought a couple weeks earlier, it's a used one, so there's no warranty with it, I used it several days without any issue, I don't use it very frequently as I use my corporate one most of the time.
Someday when I wanted to turn it on, it stacks on a black screen and it beeps one beep then two other, nothing showing on the screen not even the thinkpad logo at startup, I thought it was a RAM related issue so I put the one from my corporate PC but without any luck, so I wanted to see if its graphic controller issue, I plug the VGA cable on the laptop and my TV and here I can see the thinkpad startup logo but after that I see a message on the screen telling :
"Real Time Clock Error - Check Date and Time settings. Press Esc to continue or F1 to enter setup" and when I press either one nothing happen at all, still stacks there.

I'm an owner of T430. I have toshiba hitachi 500gb and mini ssd 16gb running windows 7
Right now as I was working on an assignment i got a Microsoft Warning that my Hard drive was failing and that i have to run a back up (which I am doing right now)
Never had this problem and I've been using computer for awhile now and it's my first time seeing the warning window. Is there a way to see if this is a "real" problem? is it caused by viruses? and is it covered by my warranty?
I just ran lenovo solution center hard ware scan and passed everything except my mini ssd. with a code WHD00D001-UI4W8F.
So it seems like my hard drive is working fine, I had some problems with hardware scan failing my mini ssd before.

I've just out my hdd to check whether the ssd will fit there, just checked whether the slot is ok. Then I put back the original HHD very carefully. After that I opened the extra RAM slot, took it out and put it back, also VERY carefully. I didn't harm the laptop in any way.
Then I turned the computer on and it was just a black screen, nothing happening. No indicators lighted up, except for power button. I cannot enter BIOS, no response whatsoever.

My new T430 has both the built-in Intel and NVidia graphics controller (see system specs below). Question: how do I switch to the NVidia controller? I can open both the NVidia and Intel control panels, but for the internal (laptop LCD) display I don't see any way to enable the NVidia controller.

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3520M CPU @ 2.90GHz

bought my T430 this week.
after installing every software i will need on my notebook, i closed it (sleeping) and put it in my backpack. i only needed it again after 2 days. when i touched the bag it was already hot in the outside, i opened it, and my Lenovo was burning... i turned my computer on, the battery went down to 13% from 100% (2 days ago), as it was sleeping, i would have suggested it uses roughly 10-15% in 2 days.
my questions are:
1. is the heating thing normal while sleeping? what could have caused the problem?
2. is it possible that some parts of the computer got damaged in such a hot atmosphere? (note that i kept it in a closed bag)
possible solution to question 1: i ran a command prompts, typed in the code that tells me what is allowed to wake my computer. noticed the external Logitec mouse and that Intel giganet networks were allowed, so i disabled both. it was probably the mouse as it was in the same bag, i guess it was moving in the bag and waking the computer?

I have a T430 (2342-CTO) with an i7-3520M processor that I purchased at the beginning of 2013, and I loaded Virtualbox along with an appliance. When I ran the appliance, it gave me an error something to the effect that virtualization is unavailable on my machine.I went into the BIOS and found the settings for dynamic frequency and hyperthreading for the CPU, but I didn't see any entry for virtualization - where to look or what to do to enable this feature?

I am in the process of changing from a Crucial 256GB M4 SATA SSD to a Crucial 240GB M500 SSD. (I'm unable to upgrade the M4 firmware as laptop has UEFI BIOS). I have imaged the M4 to an HDD and find that the C: partition is 12% defragmented and the recovery partition Q: is 99% defragmented. I have a Lenovo T430s laptop running Windows 7 Professional. Should I defrag both partitions before installing the new SSD, or not bother? Also the Q partition had only 2GB free on the M4. Should I increase this when I change to the M500?

I've been having this weird problem where my Fn+F5 combination (which toggles wireless on and off) has stopped working. I recently uninstalled, and then reinstalled, the lenovo driver for power management in windows 8 64, because I was having the same problem with putting the computer into sleep mode via Fn+F4 (I think by reinstalling the driver, it fixed the sleep mode problem but screwed up my "toggle wireless" ability via keyboard). If the power management driver was potentially the culprit for these two problems, and I reinstall it once again....

I cannot install Windows 8.1. I have a T430. I go into the app store, start installing 8.1, it downloads, starts installing, and fails just after that point -- at 54% -- with the error message 0x80070002. That apparently means "File not found", but the Windows Update logs don't point to which file is not found, only giving:
WARNING: CSerializationHelper:: InitSerialize failed : 0x80070002
Going into Event Viewer gives the equally cryptic "English ESD Bundle Parent" as a possible cause for the failure.
SFC and chkdsk do not report anything out of the ordinary.

The sound quality is junk its as if i am listening to a really low quality audio file all the time this is through the headphone jack. I cant find any settings to fix this in the drivers and if i use a 3rd party eq such as in vlc player it just gets worse.
If I turn the master down to 10% and turn up 3rd party volume the signal distorts at 50% signal on the 3rd party hard core.
I have the latest audio driver...

I have got a problem with my T430. I'm not able to boot from usb stick. I checked BIOS settings like 1000 times. Approx. 8mo ago I installed an Ubuntu form usb stick, and everything went well. But now, I guess after BIOS update (2.54 or 2.56) it doesn't work any longer. Today I saw on support webpage information about BIOS version 2.57. It has even written that it solves my problem: "Fix an issue where the system fail to boot from USB device by configuration.".

This computer originally had an issue with the 2100 Detection Error. This computer was previously built with no issues when it was imaged with our company's Windows 8 configuration in which I am highly sure our IT engineers have worked closely with Lenovo on. Also out of the tens of thousand computers that were imaged this way this is the only system I have dealt with that has this issue. I luckily had a good T440 I could test this system's SSD in. The hard drive appears to be fine with no issues. So that rules out to be the SSD. I ordered a system board under warranty and installed it. Everything so far responded fine with the system board replacement until I performed the model type/serial number and UUID update using my 1.86 maintenance update USB thumb drive. After that completed the computer froze on the Thinkpad Logo screen. I verified again for my piece of mind that the memory module and SSD was fine. Sure enough those components were tested fine in a known working T440. So I submitted the system board as a DOA with an explanation. I received another system board to replace with the DOA. I installed that system board to once again update the Model Type/Serial Number and UUID using my USB maintenance disk 1.86 thumbdrive to once again end up with a locked computer at the Thinkpad Logo screen. I have replaced a couple of other T440 and T540 system boards during this time also with using the same USB maintenance disk thumbdrive used for updating those system's model type/serial number and UUID. So I know the issue is not with the USB thumb drive. I am very frustrated with this system. I hate to keep submitting DOAs for the same system.
Since the BIOS is part of the system board and I have not had these issues with the many T440 system boards I have replaced successfully that performing a BIOS update is not a good excuse why this doesn't work on this particular T440 and since after replacing a system board under "DOA" and updating with the maintenance disk and froze there is not a way I can run a BIOs update on this system now right?
