View 5 RepliesI have owned a T440S since late 2013.
Relevant Details:
T440S
Model : 20AQCTO1WW
OS : Windows 7 professional (original installation by Lenovo)
Latest Drivers installed as of June 2014 - including HotKey and Power Management
HotKey ver : 8.30
Power Managment : 6.65.1
Since receiving this laptop, OSD birightness control has always failed to work, i.e. does not appear on the screen when using the Fn+F5/F6 key combination nor does it control actual screen brightness AFTER FIRST resuming from sleep mode.
Sequence of steps that demonstrates the above symptom:
1. OSD brightness works fine after reboot
2. Putting the machine to sleep (I do not use hibernate) for a duration longer than a few minutes
3. Open lid the first time, hit Fn to resume machine
4. Pressing Fn+F5/F6 key combo does not display the brightness slider nor does it control brightness
5. Closing the lid and opening it again, causes OSD brightness slider to flash briefly and is now fully functional using Fn+F5/F6 keys
Your tech department should easily be able to re-create this issue on any stock T440S/Win7pro machine, as I have seen others comment about this very issue across other T440/OS variants.
I'm not sure if any other user has experience this issue. I did a lenovo update couple weeks back and since then my wireless adapter would not work after waking up from sleep mode. It shows that the wireless adapter is connected to wireless network but the internet would not work. The only way i can make it work is by disabling the wifi adapter by putting the laptop in airplane mode and then bringing it back out from it. Disabling and enabling the wireless adapter does a quick fix and does allow me to use the internet without any issue for the time being. i have also uninstalled and reinstalled fresh drivers from lenovo website, still having the same problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI got a new T440s about 2 weeks ago and sometimes it doesn't wake up after it goes into sleep mode. It gets stuck on a black screen and the mouse cursor is visible, but moving the mouse or pressing keys on the keyboard fails to wake it up. When this happens, I have to restart the computer by holding down the power button for 10 seconds. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit and hybrid sleep is off. I'm just really confused because sometimes it wakes up perfectly and sometimes it doesn't.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI keep having issues waking up from sleep with my T440s. It WILL NOT connect to wifi and the wireless adapter under windows adapter settings disappears. Only thing that fixes this is a reboot. I have removed "allow windows to turn this device off" under wireless settings.
Driver: 17.12.0.4
Dated: 28/08/2014
Software: Lenovo Access Connections
I do not use windows to connect to WIFI. I have dedicated profiles for each of my wifi networks at home and work.
I installed the most recent ThinkVantage Password Manager software yesterday through the Lenovo Solution Software. It is version 4.70.20. Today, when I booted my computer, my fingerprint reader is no longer working (it worked yesterday before the installation and all day yesterday after the installation). I cannot find a fingerprint reader in Device Manager, but there is one "Unknown USB Device (device Descriptor Request Failed)" which is listed as not working in device manager.
I feel like the software update killed the fingerprint driver as it is no longer available in any application (windows logon, website logon, etc.).
I've installed no other software recently and have uninstalled and reinstalled both the ThinkVantage Password Manager and Lenovo Fingerprint Manager Pro (version 8.01.26(x64) today to try to resolve the issue.
So, I just got my shiny new T540p with a 3K display and Win Pro 8 installed. I promptly upgraded to Win 8.1 Pro and now I have a problem with the Intel HD Graphics. Basically, the system will not turn the display on after a sleep and I can't adjust brightness.
I tried downloading the drivers from the support page, but they reference a Intel(R) HD Graphics 5000 card, whereas my system says it has a Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 installed. When I try to run the driver install anyway, I get a message saying that my system does not meet the minimum requirement for installation (?).
I tried manually installing the Intel(R) HD Graphics Family driver instead. This fixed sleep and brightness control, but then all things 3D was completely messed up (like buttons in Skype and Chrome).
I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.
Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows.
Things I have tried
-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software
-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options
-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager.
I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue.
Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models?
I am a PC technician building a Thinkpad T540p for an end user. It is running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. I have installed all the drivers directly from the Lenovo support page. My problem is that the function key to turn the Wireless Radio is not working. I have checked function lock. The other function keys do their marked function fine. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the hotkey driver as well as the wireless driver and I still can not get it to work.

I could just find posts related to similar problems when using docking station - tried some of the solutions, but none seemed to work.
Found this [URL] ... on dpreview - suggests using miniDP to DP 2-link converter (screen has just VGA/DP ports).
I am just entering some numerial data and found out that there is no num lock key on the new designed keyboard. There is also no description about this in the manual. Do I need to set something to use?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it is possible to upgrade the built in 4gb on the T440s, Not a big deal if i cant, just wondering because I can actaully get 2 8gb sticks. how to access the built in stick.I only have the built in right now, adding the one 8( hopefully both) later this week.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a T440s lenovo laptop whose motherboard was replaced a few months ago.
Today I wanted to make a clean installation (windows 8) using the recover USB key I created before the motherboard replacement (note that I already used it and it was working before changing the board).
It goes through the different steps, deleting files and creating the partitions, but when it is done the computer is not able to boot on the hardrive. I have the following messages :
Intel (R) Boot agent Ge v1.5.43 copyring (C) 1997-2013 , Intel corporation
............. initializing and establishing link...
PXE-E61 - Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F - Exiting intel boot agent
(so looks like it is trying to boot on the pci lan)
Then it comes back to the boot menu where I have a choice between :
ATA HDD0
PCI LAN
If I select the first one nothing happens, and the the PCI LAN gives the above error message.
I tried to reset the bios parameters to default but it did not work. So I am wondering if it has something to do with some change in the motherboard ID, bios version....
I also launched the lenovo quick storage device test to check the hard drive and all was ok. I had to change a bios option to UEFI (the new motherboard was set by default to Legacy, messing up all the recovery process)
New T440s doesn't seem to be entering 30-day standby mode.
I did upgrade the RAM and SSD after purchase. RAM is now 12GB and SSD was cloned directly from the factory drive. In Disk Manager, I do see a 12GB partition that I presume is the sleep partition? Computer is running Windows 8.1, all updates applied, as far as I can tell everything relevant is up to date. Power Manager is not installed (not installed from the factory). Rapid Start is enabled in the BIOS and set to 1 Minute for testing.
I did find that in the Windows power plan selected from the factory that Hybrid Sleep was not enabled (nor was Hibernate). I've enabled Hybrid Sleep.
Still, the computer never enters deep sleep mode. Nothing connected to the computer and no significant changes made to the configuration other than updating to Windows 8.1 and installing some software.
proper sequence of steps to successfully clone my existing HDD to the 850 Pro SSD.
I am most curious as to what bios settings needed to be made before, during, or after the cloning process (AHCI?)
I purchased a USB 3.0 to SATA cable to work with the process but don't know if I take the old drive out first and connect it to the cable, or connect the SSD to the cable and start the process.
In case of new ThinkPads the fingerprint sensor can't be used to authenticate at power on?
Looks bit strange to me, that Lenovo will remove this function.

My LAN port seems to be unstable. I insert the cable and hear the clicking sound but no LED turns on. I have to push the cable further to get the indicator on. It may also disconnect if the cable moves.
Is this a faulty port? And, if so, what does it take to fix it? (i.e. what do they replace/fix?)
Every time I open one of the Lenovo apps like like Support or Companion, I get the message "Enhanced functions for this application are available". I click the message, a browser opens up, I download "dependecypackage.exe", I install, setup asks for a restart and I let it, and the process repeats again and again. I keep getting this "Enhanced functions..." message. It is driving me crazy. How do I end this cycle?

When I connect the USB 3.0 dock to my T440s, I then cannot get the second LCD monitor to be recognised by Windows via the USB3.0.
The monitor is not being recognised as it is is not seen as one of the optional displays in the 'Intel HD Graphics control panel' window.
The driver however for the second monitor is fully up to date and it works fine when I connect the LCD to the VGA port directly on my computer. Also the second monitor is being recognised partly by the windows OS as it comes up as a second screen under the 'screen resolution' window.
My set up is shown below. I am thinking that perhaps there is an issue with either the NVIDIA or Intel HD graphics chip. I read somewhere that windows uses one or the other depending on the load. I am worried that there is some problem with that mechanism. All driver are up to date.

Realtek 2x2 11b/g/n wireless LAN M.2 adapter does not detect my home 5ghz network. Driver (version 2012.10.224.2014) is up to date. 2ghz band works fine. Could it be that 5ghz is not supported by this $2k laptop?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI purchased online a T440s brand new. I opened the box for the first time myself. When I enter BIOS it asks for password and I just hit enter without entering any password. I can enter the BIOS but i can not change any settings.
What can I do? Can a brand new thinkpad come with a BIOS password out the box?
I get conflicting information regarding the type of password. First image says it's power on which can be removed but bios says its supervisor.
Just today the trackpad on my t440s completely shutoff. When I went to examine the driver it said it had been disabled. Unfortunately, for some reason, the Device Manager wouldn't allow me to reinable it. And so I decided to uninstall the driver.
After doing so, I looked up the correct driver and attempted to install it. To my dismay, I recieved this message:
How come my T440s doesn't have the Lenovo Energy Manager program? I remember my other Ideapads had it. ThinkPads don't come with that program preinstalled? I wanted to do a battery gauge reset/recalibration.
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe T440s has no embedded number pad and no Num Lock key. I post to a weather blog and the degree symbol (Num Lock > Alt+248) is almost as common as the letter A.
1. How do I insert ASCII characters, such as the degree symbol, using the T440s keyboard?
From reading specs and reviews of third party USB number pads, it appears that the combination of Num Lock, Alt and the number pad does not work to insert ASCII characters.
2. Will the Lenovo 33L3225 Thinkpad Numeric Keypad allow me to insert ASCII character codes as if it were part of a full keyboard?
I find the omission of this function on the T440s puzzling.
