I'm struggling to get the touchpad on my x220 to work. The UltraNav driver for it won't install, complaining that the "Synaptics device not found!"
I know the touchpad is there, because i can see it. I have done all the obvious things like updates, bios settings etc.
I've tried putting in an SDHC card in my laptop but it doesn't show up. Looked at Device Manager and there isn't even anything showing up. I tried installing the drivers provided on the support site but it still isn't working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI just did a system restore of windows 8 (clean wipe) and went through the process of reinstalling all the drivers. I installed the latest version SmartAudio (8.32.43.0). In Google hang out it said the microphone wasn't working, then I clicked on the settings and made the internal mic the default, I got good mic for 1 second. Did it again and the same thing. But this is only for a single second. In skype I tried the same thing and it is just super quite, it doesn't register on the scale unless I blow directly into the mic (so I know it's picking something up). Last week I had my upgraded from win 7 Windows 8 install working just fine with the microphone (zero problems ever before with this thing). I checked in mic properties and DB and volume are set to max. So what is it about the fresh install that is making the mic all cracked out? (I checked the SmartAudio settings too) I'm having issues with my Bluetooth mouse too(disconnects at restart and have to reinstall) and Power Manager (it doesn't show up as a toolbar anymore). P.S.. I've gone to the X220 site and downloaded the latest drivers and installed system update.

So I made a bootable usb using Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool and tried to install Windows 7 using my usb. However I have an error "No CD/DVD driver found" I have tried all three usb slots but there still is that problem. All three slots are USB 2.0.

When I try to search for the device driver ill also mention that it says drive C is not formatted, Anyways, how do I install device driver to reformat harddrive so that I may reinstall windows7? Have I gotten some kind of virus? I use avast and did not notice any trouble until blue screen.
View 9 Replies View RelatedAlthough I'm using my X1 Carbon since September 2012 and work with it every day for at least 8 hours, I still can't get used to the Trackpad: the biggest problem is that I accidentally right-click all the time, because when clicking in the lower right corner of the Trackpad, it's a right-click. On a 'normal' Trackpad, this would not be a problem, because there would be some physical divider that would give my fingers feedback on when I've reached the right-click-area...
The solution would be to disable the corner click completely since I'm not using it anyway. Unfortunately, the respective "Configure"-button is disabled in my UltraNav tool window. See the screenshot:
Is there any way, I can disable this "corner click" manually? I'm not afraid of hacking the registry or some config files.
When I've got my ThinkPad w530, there was (as usually at every ThinkPad laptop) UltaNav enhanced setting dialog (if I remember correctly, these settings resided at the last tab of OS mouse settings dialog - Control Panel -> Mouse). I have spent a lot of time to configure touchpad according to my needs.
But than I've updated my Windows 7 x64, as Microsoft recommended, and installed some hardware drivers and user applications... And at some moment I've suddenly discovered, that the touchpad and the stickpoint do not work anymore the way I've configured them. Yes, they work, but in the most basic default mode.
Furthermore, when I tried to look at the configuration dialog I had used before to configure them, I found, that this settings dialog is totally gone.
Now my Windows Control Panel mouse setting menu looks as the following screenshot: [URL] ....
Is there any way to restore (re-activate) manually Lenovo UltraNav settings dialog for the touchpad and the stickpoint?
I get this spiral symbol (see above image) in place of my mouse indicator when I move my fingers a certain way on the ultranav mousepad.
One way it occurs is if I move my finger from left to right or right to left across the bottom of the ultranav mousepad.
It interferes with me being able to move the mouse. I suspect it is to prevent inadvertant movement of the mouse when your finger just brushed the ultranav mousepad. I would like to turn it off if possible.
Both me and a friend of mine have Lenovo W540s. Everything was working perfectly fine with all of our hardware, until today. A BIOS update came out and installed correctly on both of our machines. After this update both of our UltraNAV features on the trackpad are all dead. After that first restart a message appeared "finding new hardware" and it found a generic mouse on the laptop. Now when I try to re-install the UltraNav drivers, it says no hardware found. I tried both the drivers on Lenovo.com and the manufacture's website all with no luck.
How to fix our UltraNav pads?

This morning upon booting up my ThinkPad W520, the multi-card reader is no longer working. A look at the Device Manager (Windows 7, 64-bit) shows the "Base System Device", and reports "The drivers for this device are not installed." Attempting to get Windows to natively install the drivers does not work. Some googling shows others with similar troubles in the past; recommendations include installing a Ricoh card reader driver for Windows XP or Vista; this did not work. Other available drivers include 8ass82ww.exe and 8axv51ww.exe - these do not work. Installing Lenovo's own Support Center software shows the Base System Device driver is not installed. I can't find a way to install it. I've tried installing driver exe files and searching for those same files using the Windows browse-for-files window when installing drivers for Base System Device.

Also there is a second "unknown device" with location "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller" are these related or is this a second issue ?
I have uninstalled Windows 8 and installed Windows 7 64bit Pro on my new Lenovo Ideapad u410. I managed to get all the drivers working... EXCEPT ONE: The WLAN.
Now here's what I did and what happens every time I try to install the WLAN driver:
I have downloaded the driver "WiFi Link Driver (Intel, CyberTan, Liteon) for Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)" from the page [URL] ... multiple times and tried installing it multiple times. The installation process works until the status "Search the target device in this machine" shows up. As soon as this status shows up, the installation exits without an error message or anything else. How to get it working. I can't even use this machine without WLAN.
By the way:
- LAN works fine
- It's not a hardware issue as the WiFi worked fine on the preinstalled Win8
- The WiFi won't even show up under Windows
- I have not installed "Intel WiMax Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)" driver as I am told that this is not used.
- Of course I am running the .exe as Administrator
- I tried installing Win7 on UEFI before.
I just reinstalled windows 7 on my edge 13 (cause the system really slowed down), everything's working so far, expect the WLan Device. The network adapter (realtek RTL8168D/Familie-PCI-E-Gigabit-Ethernet-NIC) is properly detected, if i plug in a Lan cable I have got a connection.
I already tried this Lenovo Update tool, it installed some drivers and updates, but still no change. I already tried all Wifi drivers from lenovo homepage without success. Hitting the F9 Button didn't change a thing.
i have z500 i can not install synaptic touchpad driver for win 8.1 . i downloaded the latest version of driver from lenovo website and when i was tring to install it , it gave me this error : not appropriate driver was found 1 month ago i was using win 7 and the synaptic touchpad driver was ok ! why i cant install it on win 8.1 ? touchpad works with 1 finger already but i want to user 2 finger scrolling that don't work

Even cranked all the way up, the sound on the x220 seems somewhere around half as loud as the x120e and even my wife's iPad blows it away. It's a litle embarrassing.
I think it's the sound card/driver not the speakers as even with headphones plugged in it is very very soft at 100% volume.

Got the X220 today, and I'll get to the chase here:
There seems to be a problem with the fan. It seems to always hover at about 90% capacity even if the computer is doing nothing. That would have been acceptable somewhat, except for the fact that it will spin at 90% speed (just estimating here) for 5 seconds, then rev up to 100% for 1 seconds, then down to 90% for 5 seconds, then 100% for one second. It's very irritating.
I believe this is related to the BIOS for two reasons:
1. All the professional reviews online kept mentioning how quiet the machine is. This is not quiet by any means. Perhaps their review machine had an older BIOS that did not exhibit this problem.
2. This happened during the installation of Windows as well, which, of course, does not use any drivers, so the Lenovo Power Manager is not the culprit.
Back to #2: The fan issue can be solved by setting the fan setting in the Lenovo PM program to "reducde fan noise dynamically" instead of the other two options. Then the fan will be silent. But why can't I use the other two options? Why must they make the fan work at full speed all the time? This is why I think this is a BIOS issue at hand.
When testing take note: Switching to "reduce fan noise dynamically" reduces the fan to silent, and you can then switch to the other two options and the fan will remain quiet. But it will only remain quiet for a minute or two, then rev up to full speed. So don't be hasty in thinking that switching to reduce fan noise dynamically will then allow you to use either of the other options without excessive noise.
I am unable to update the BIOS on the Thinkpad listed below.I have tried to run Boot CD version of the update program (using CD player in dock) and it reports the error:"The system program file is not correct for this system"..The Windows based BIOS update program reports the error (in or out of dock):
"The process does not recognize this system. The process has been cancelled"..The Lenovo support page lists the new BIOS as being appropriate for this model. The BIOS reports the correct model and serial number.I desire to update the BIOS only as part of a software reload / refresh of the laptop. No actual problem with current BIOS to my knowledge.

My laptop charger suddenly stopped working. Last night it was still working perfectly normal. I tried using my friend's charger and it charges, so it's not the battery's problem. It's not the problem with 'Plugged in, Not charging' , but actually there is no response when I plug in the charger. Is it the software problem or is it the charger's problem? Is there a way to fix the charger?
View 4 Replies View RelatedHaving some troubles with my X220 and windows 8.1 and fast startup.
It has been working flawlessly for a few months now with Windows 8 and an SSD but has recently decided it does not want to fast startup - every time I try and boot with the feature enabled the laptop immediately shuts off completely after the boot animation. On pressing the power button again the laptop boots 'normally' i.e. at 'normal' startup speed.
I've tried disabling the feature, using the 'powercfg -h off' and 'powercfg -h on' commands to recreate hiberfil.sys and enabling it again, which worked at first but now it has started having the problem again and this no longer works.

I have installed my mSATA card as instructed and that part went fine. Like a couple of other folks the drive is not being recognized by Windows 7. I have checked the storage management in windows 7 and the drive is not there in any form. I have disabled all caching as suggested in some posts in the polices for the drive in windows 7. Again no drive being recognized.

Non of driver updater find the built-in camera, same with Deviace Manager. Lenovo System Update dont download any camera related software. I understand that somekind of driver need to be installed to be able to turn on the camer. But non i found activate it.
From what I read it should be in Lenovo Settings with Audio settings, but sadly nothing there.
When I start the build in app "camera" from Windows, it tells me there is no atached camera.
Those are the Lenovo x220 related installed application that showed up in Add/Remove Software.
Sadly the only camera driver from Lenovo page which is: Integrated Camera Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad , doesn't work.
X220 Tablet .... After hours of troubleshooting, I finally found the cause of my Windows 7 Pro Shutdown issue.
The Tablet would hang at Shutdown, then BSOD. I systematically removed drivers until I found the cause. The current installed version of the Thinkpad Tablet Button Driver, Version 1.04.0.0 as installed by System Update was the culprit. As soon as I uninstalled that driver, no more issues.
In my Win 7 X220 and Win 8 Yoga11s, both had Lenovo programs (Power Manager and Lenovo Energy Management respectively) that allowed me to maximize battery health by setting a charging threshold. In the TPY, is there any Lenovo programs that does that too?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I installed Windows 8 (Clean install, no upgrades) on the machine and since then the card reader isnt working. I downloaded and installed the drivers from Lenovo Website and after failing from Driver Genius and then from ThinkVantage System Update 5.03. Still doesn't work, I install them, but after I reboot it is installed but the card reader doesn't work (It was working before on Windows 7 on the same day I installed W8). I updated to 8.1 and the problem continues.

October 2014. Purchased Thinkpad X120E. 1.5ghz processor and low memory made it horrible. Put in 8gb and bought the Samsung 840 Evo 256gb SSD drive. It made the laptop much more responsive but it still sucked...so I sold it. I kept the SSD drive for my 'future' thinkpad.I did the firmware update on the SSD as it required it. It currently has the most recent firmware. When I bought the SSD drive, I plopped it in, installed windows then openSUSE and enjoyed it for a bit. Never gave me an issue at all.
January 2015: Purchased an off-lease X220 with the 2.6ghz processor. Has a 320gig 7200rpm drive in it. Put in 16GB of memory and love it.After playing with it for a bit, I did the most recent BIOS upgrade (1.39) and prepared it for the SSD install.I put in the Samsung 840 evo. Turning on the laptop it sits at thinkpad logo a lot longer then usual. After a bit it goes to the Error 2100.I went into the BIOS, HDD is not detected at all.I kept trying to boot/restart but no go. I always see that Error 2100. I can tell when it won't boot because the thinkpad logo sits for a long time and it seems that the HDD light is always on.I tried to boot with and without UEFI...no go.
I tried to boot with SATA as AHCI or compatibility, no goI put the Samsung drive into a dock and attached it to a laptop. Disk management see's the drive. I can format it and all.I put the SSD drive then into a friend’s computer tower. I formatted the drive using the Samsung software. I tried to put it back into my laptop last night, no go. Drive is not being read.My friends desktop detects the drive in his BIOS just fine...
I believe this is an issue between the BIOS and the SSD/firmware. I looked at some of the updates for SSD's and the thinkpad BIOS, they identify a small part of the model number of the samsung drive but it is not the same.
I get a Thinkpad X220 and I would like to change the harddrive. I was thinking about a SSD or SSHD with capacity of 500 Go. Have you got references SSD or SSHD to give me? Did I have any other things to do if I change it? Do you think that these models can be used?
