View 2 RepliesUsing Win 8.1 x64 and the latest Synaptics drivers, if I'm typing or holding a key the left click does not work. I've tried every setting in the Synaptics control panel and can't figure out how to disable this behavior.
How to disable this? It's very annoying, especially as there is a delay after pressing a key before I can click the mouse of around a half second.
Easily recreated by opening notepad and holding down the A key, then trying to left click something.
Is there any way to completely disable the touchpad and trackpoint on the X1 Carbon without going into bios?
I am able to disable touchpad OR trackpoint by going into mouse properties in control panel but it won't let me do both. I would like to turn it back on relatively easily if possible.
I am trying to do this on a work computer and I have no administrative rights and I am using Windows 7 Professional.
Can this be done or did Lenovo completely overlook such a simple feature?
The trackpoint middle scrolling button doesn't work for some of the newer applications such as ITunes, the newest versions of Picasa, Windows Live Mail, Safari, and Windows Live Writer.
Below is a fix applicable to all Windows OS's. The location of the edited file may vary so look in the Device Manager under trackpoint driver details to find driver locations.
The file must be edited as an administrator in Vista and Windows 7. To do this, at the programs box type in notepad and on the notpad program in the menu right click and select, "Run as Administrator."
In Win7 x64 it is located at: (edit with Notepad run as Administrator).

Had a w540 for a few days and so far it'd be fine. At the weekend i used the laptop on battery for a long time and thus set the power-management low to conserve power.
However, today having switched back to power supply and setting power scheme to max performance the CPU is still concerving power.
Its running (according to resource manager) at 29% and no matter how much i do it sticks at that percentage. The laptop does feel like its running at that clock speed too ... everything is super slow ... can watch programs drawing in the display...
my x230's fan is most of the time running full speed, and returns to regular (almost no noise level) for only a few minutes.I just got this x230 for less than a month and i notice this since most of my colleagues' laptops are all the time quiet compared to mine, which is a lot newer than theirs.Later on I will try the Full HW scan & see how it goes.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought a ThinkPad X240 recently. On Lenovo's website, it says the max speed is 3.30 GHz. However, in the Windows 8.1 Task Manager, it says the maximum speed is 2.69 GHz. See [URL] ....
Why there is a discrepancy? I also tried running Prime 95 for a little while and noticed that the "Speed" in Task Manager never went above 2.70 GHz. Did I somehow get a weird i7-4600U processor that has a max speed of only 2.7 GHz?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. How to up the brightness?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a pretty good amount of knowledge behind computer software, and hardware operations. I am aware of the fact that the fan will increase speed according to increased temperature of CPU, and other components. However, is the fan supposed to periodically, turn on and off, each occurrence running at full speed for 10-20 seconds, then shut off again? How about the same question, when the laptop is physically(meaning you can feel it) hot? I don't think that this is a hardware issue. I've recently had a hard drive fail on me, and had another hard drive(same exact model hard drive) installed, and Windows 8 reinstalled. I think somewhere along the lines of the OS reinstallation process, some drivers were probably missed and this might be causing the issue. On the other hand, the fan in this laptop is the same one from the factory, which makes it 4 years old. What is the lifetime on the fans in the Inspiron N7110?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble figuring out why on my T520, after upgrading from 8GB/1333Mhz to 16GB/1600Mhz Crucial RAM, Speccy/CPU-Z still says they're running at around ~660Mhz x 2 = ~1330?
My specs are as follows:
For my T520 (4239-CTO) I have...
Processor: Intel Core i7-2860QM 2.5Ghz
RAM: Crucial 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR3-1600
GPU: Intel HD 3000 / NVIDIA QUADRO NVS 4200M
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 (w/latest updates)
After Googling for a while and from looking around here I've read nothing that says I shouldn't be able to run at 1600Mhz especially considering my processor supports that speed officially. Another post on this topic (not for the T520 specifically) mentioned that i7's contain the memory controller within itself. So... am I being thwarted by software settings in the BIOS or within my operating system?
My laptop G505 59379534 has become horribly slow. In fact it is so right from beginning when I purchased six months back. Around 50 GB of data consisting of audio, video files are stored in it. It takes atleast 2 to 3 minutes to open even a small file of 5 Mb size. Also I have installed all latest drivers from AMD site. Also I am using Kapersky internet security 2014 and it is up to date. No virus or spyware is detected when I run full scan. Can I improve it's speed and if so how.
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is terrible, by using CPUz i can see that, whilst the laptop is charging, the clock speed drops down to 900mhz and fluctautes between that and 1400mhz, this is shocking, i can hardly watch youtube videos or even post this thread, the lag and slowness is unbearable. When running on battery power the CPU speed shoots up to 2500mhz and stays there,it never seems to go to its turbo speed either. Whilst charging, the laptop is unusabe, i cannot do anything on it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new Ideapad G710 with 1TB Serial ATA 2, 5400rpm with advertised speed of 3 Gb/s (= 384MB/s). I am running Windows 7 ultimate x64 with SP1.
When I test hard drive read/write speed (I used CrystalDiskMark) I get results of about 100MB/s, which is 3-4 times slower than it should be. I am not running any resource heavy applications (Resource monitor reports Disk I/O to be 0 most of the time in idle state). I have 3 partitions, each with 16-32GB paging file size and all are >90% empty. All partitions have been defragmented before testing.
Is this normal? Are there any lenovo drivers or utilities than I might be missing or that can slow/speed this?
I have an ideapad Y580 with the NVIDIA GTX 660m. When I run any application with 3D graphics on battery the GPU core will initially run at 405 MHz - All is well.
After around 1 or 2 minutes, the GPU core will begin to flick between 135 MHz and 405 MHz approximaetly every 2 seconds. At 135 MHz, 3D applications are unusable and any audio goes all 'robot voice'.
I've attached a screen shot from GPU-Z
My understanding is that;
-When plugged in, I should get 835.3 MHz when running 3D applications,
-On battery, there is not enough power available to hold at 835.3 MHz, so the GPU compromises and runs at 405 MHz
-When in Windows, plugged in or not, 135 MHz is sufficient.
However as you can see, my GPU keeps falling back to 135 MHz from 405 Mhz when running 3D applications such as Farcry 3, Left4Dead2 and UGS NX7.5 (CAD Software).
Some Patterns I've Noticed:
The following cycle seems to repeat
GPU Core Speed (MHz)
CPU Core Speed (MHz)
Battery Voltage (V)
405
~798
10.85
405
~1297
10.85
135
~798
10.7
Could it be that the CPU starts ramping up which causes a V drop, thus causing the GPU to roll back to 135 MHz? If so,
Is this normal behaviour of a healthy battery? Can anything be done to limit the power consumption of the CPU to avoid the V dorp?
I see a lot of "You can't run games on battery, just accept it", to which I say, fair enough, but I need this laptop for demonstrating 3D CAD models to people. My 2005 Acer 5670 handled this no problem, I expect my Y580 to perform at least as well (really I expect it to perform a lot better).

When I push the power button (pulsing green), it goes to solid green and the fingerprint scanner light turns on, but no screen. I scan my fingerprint and the scanner light turns off, but still no screen. The only way to bring it back to life is a long press on the power button and a reboot.
Nothing plugged into any of the ports. It does this regardless of whether it's plugged in or on battery.

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy X1 is about 18 months old. It was fine until today. The battery was low, so I plugged it in. The little blue light where the power connects illuminated, however the battery indicater in Windows did not change to show "charging", and the battery continued to drain.
Over the next hour or so I tried many things like shutting down, waiting, new A/C outlet, new power settings, etc. Tried the little reset hole on the bottom of the laptop. Nothing mattered... the little blue light is on, but the battery just drains.
Eventually, the battery drained and the X1 shut down. When I try to boot, I get a pre-boot message about a critical low power error, even plugged in, so my laptop is now a brick. This is a 3448-34U Thinkpad Carbon X1.
