I have a U430 touch with 500 GB + 8GB SSD, and it has 4 GB RAM
I would like to buy on my own a 256 full SSD drive and replace the original HD and also I would like to add extra 4 GB of RAM.
Is it possible?
I know that there are some computer with chips welded to the board so no changes can be made,.
My Lenovo U430 touch came with a Samsung 128GB SSD. Since it was becoming a little on the small side, I decided to replace it with a Samsung EVO 250GB SSD.
My first thought was to clone the old SSD and then resize the partitions afterwards. I quickly ran into trouble, the cloning didn't work out. So I decided to begin from scratch. So I installed the new SSD and installed a bare Windows 8.1 Pro install.
Although everythings works one thing is still bugging me. For the new Samsung SSD to be bootable I must:
- Disable Secure Boot
- Enable Legacy booting
I thought all the necessary codes were a BIOS / OS thing?
I recently got a U430 but, when I connect it to my Dell S2240L monitor using an HDMI cable, the U430 doesn't detect it. I've tested the monitor and cable. The display driver that came on the machine is from Intel (version 10.18.10.3379). The supported display driver listed on the Lenovo site is also from Intel but for an earlier version (10.18.10.3277). I've read a number of threads about a second monitor not being detected.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy friend bought a U430 Touch with Windows 8. He hated Win 8 so downgrade to Win 7. Now the wireless dowsn't work. Ethernet works fine and we are able to get on the internet, but wireless does not work at all. I've been to Lenovo's site and downloaded the drivers from their support site, but nothing weems to work. Is there a special driver I'm missing?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Lenovo U430 touch. Major problem: I only get limited wireless. I should note that it hasn't connected wirelessly once. It does connect fine via LAN ( I kept the cables!). I tried calling Lenovo but they said it must be my router and I should contact my internet provider (which I don't understand since the internet provider has nothing to do with the router.)
The laptop does connect wireless for about 5 seconds (I once managed to open an email before the connection slipped). Then it shows the yellow exclamation point in front of the wireless icon on the right-bottom screen. If I troubleshoot, it fixes the default gateway. Repeat. Sometimes it says that the "default gateway is not available."
Things I have tried per other similar questions asked online: unistalled McAfee, including with the removal toolpower cylcing my router, laptop, and cable modemuninstalling the wireless driver and restarting the laptop Some notes: the system came with Windows 8.1I have two other devices wirelessly connected to the same router with no problem. I'm sitting about 8 feet from the router.the only programs I've downloaded are Firefox and then finally Kaspersky (since I uninstalled McAfee) I'm pretty good with computers, but this seems beyond me. It's a new laptop and it should work, darn it!
Get error firmware update failed when trying to flash Bios update 7ccn35ww. Tried several different ways no luck.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have had my Lenovo U430 touch for about a month now, and have noticed a problem with it. Sometimes when I leave my Lenovo u430 touch alone (with full battery), and sometimes it will just power off without me doing anything. It even happens occasionally when I dont use it for a few minutes while im working in front of it.
It is definitely a power-off problem for me, rather than hibernate/sleep as my programs are no longer running when I turn it back on.
Hasnt caused any lasting damage as yet but am worried it could happen while im working on something important.
I purchased a U430 ideapad 3 days ago. Set up the laptop without problems. Ran Windows Update and updated 8.1 with 40+ updates. All was fine - Until I powered off and later restarted.
The Lenovo loading screen was followed by windows user login. Entered password for user and the normal desktop appeared. Immediately a green window appeared almost filling the screen, with 'Please wait' in the centre and 'Cancel' bottom right.
Cancel does nothing and the Please Wait screen never goes - effectively locking the machine. The screen can't be resized, or closed, and the Desktop is only visible at the very top and bottom, but cannot be selected.
Pressing Ctrl-Alt-del and selecting Task Manager doesn't identify what has loaded to cause the problem and trying to switch applications shows the desktop and task manager but won't allow these to be selected, as the green screen just overlays everything.
I read online posts and did a factory reset, disabled the face-recognition software and repeated the Windows Update. All seemed fine, but next day the Green - Please wait - screen returned.
The only way I've found to regain access is to run the battery down to <10%. Getting a low battery warning at start up appears to stop the Green - please wait - screen loading and allows normal access to the Windows desktop.The laptop then functions normally until it's powered off and restarted and the Please Wait screen returns.
I just opened my Ideapad u430, and immediately noticed that the windows OS was installed on the 500gb sata drive instead of the SSD. I'm pretty sure the whole point of the SSD portion was to install the OS on it to speed performance. Any tips on how to transfer the OS onto the other side of the partition without having the original discs?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just bought a U430 touch and am trying to put in an SSD (Sandisk Ultra Plus 256 GB).
I followed the instructions in how to open the cover and take out the hard drive as listed in the maintenance manual. I created a USB boot drive and changed the boot order to the USB. But when I try to press the Novo key to then proceed with Windows installation, the power light and keyboard just starts blinking slowly. I've tried powering it on instead of using the Novo key and the same thing happens.
I've tried to do this with and without the USB drive plugged in. I also then put the old hard drive back and put the back cover back on and it is still doing it. I thought maybe that just means it's in sleep mode but pressing the power or pressing keys does not work...
I have 4gb of ram in my model, it is possible to increase the ram of this model? how many memory banks available to me? in case I had 2 I must have to fit a 8gb or 12gb in total I have to take by force from another 4gb?

I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. How to up the brightness?

View 7 Replies View RelatedMany of the newer more demanding games require that a certain amount of RAM is virtually dedicated to your graphics card, and after hours of trying to figure out how to do that I came up empty. On most desktops and some laptops you can go into the BIOS and change it, but not on the HP Envy 17t (Tried updating BIOS). I'm really not sure how much of a difference it would make for gameplay, but considering how I have an extra 11 gb of RAM when I'm rarely using more than 4 gigs it'd be nice to be able to put some of it to use. There's also a few games I want to play that require a minimum amount to even be launched at all (COD: AW).

I have just recently purchased an HP 17-e049wm. This laptop has the AMD Radeon HD8650G integrated graphics with up to 4206MB of total memory. I understand that this graphics "card" uses the onboard memory to act as video memory. How can I increase or decrease the amount of memory allocated to the graphics? I don't seem to be able to make any changes from the BIOS. Is this something that adjusts automatically?

Any special tools required? Will the existing module be 1 x 4Gb, with a spare socket to add 4Gb? Or will it be 2 x 2Gb, in which case I have to discard both and replace with 2 x 4Gb?

I know it is the touch version and settings even calls it "lenovo y50-70 touch" but below that it reads "No pen or touch input available for this display" ...what?? there are also no drivers on lenovo's support page that say anything about touch.

View 9 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded the 24GB msata to a 120 GB msata and I'm having trouble cloning the hard drive over to the ssd with Clonezilla. The plan is to move the OS to the msata ssd and wiping the original hard dirve and using it for back-up and storage. The BIOS is current set to AHCI with Lagency OS support active but trying UEFI first. I've done this before with win 7 systems; but this is my first foray into win 8.1 w/UEFI. The system does recognize and access the 120 GB Crucial M500 msata disk; it just won't mirror the 8, win-8 partitions. I reinstalled the HD and rebooted the system; to ensure I didn't mess something up and everything seems to be working; though on the slow hard drive.
I did boot from the USB drive with Clonzillia on it and used the drive to drive cloning option...

I have a P400 Touch that was purchased just a few months ago (February I believe) and it's been great so far. This past month, however, I haven't used it (until now) and noticed that my battery icon is stuck on "36% available (plugged in, charging)" but the thing is it's not charging whatsoever. What's worse is that if/when I pull the adapter from the laptop, it cuts off completely. The battery indicator light is steady white when the adapter is plugged in as well.

For a few minutes... After i restarted my computer, the sound was gone again, and now it does not work at all ......
My whole experince of windows 8.1 have been very bad. My touchpad is buggy, the sound does not work, and my computer in general seems slower, and like it is working on 100% CPU all the time ....
