How about the regular SSD drives? I have a 1525 I am considering updating a smidge .....
how many hard drives could fit in the Vaio Z, because on the SonyStyle site when configuring the HD's and choosing for example 256GB SSD it shows 2x128GB SSD. Does this mean 2x SSD hard drives? If so then I'm wondering why they don't make the option available to put in 2x256GB SSD's. Also, if 2 SSD's are possible, are 2 standard 2,5" spinning HD's possible?
View 10 Replies View Relatedyou get a Z11 configured with one SSD drive, is it possible to later install a second drive on your own? Also, can you install a normal hard drive as a second drive? Like can you get a 128gig SSD drive as a boot drive and then install a 2.5" Hard Drive in the second slot?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a VGN-Z590. Pretty much fully loaded with blu-ray burner.
When I got my laptop I immediately swapped out the drive for a 300GB 7200 RPM drive.
I know they are still not cheap - but for right around $500 you can get 256MB SSD drives.
Have a VGN-A195EP with C drive 30gb, abd D drive 30GB, as usual C is full of junk, and D is empty and useless. The lappy is ok, and I hate waste, I'm sure with a bit more breathing room on the C drive I'll get a little more life out of it.
way of merging C and D without doing a format and re-install?
Can either the Sony TT or TZ be upgraded to 'regular' laptop drives? Would like 500 GB capacities.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was looking and I understand the Z series can have 2 SSD's and was thinking maybe the S series can have 2 also.
is so that would be cool, since arent SSD's the same size as a regular HD at least they look like it
I've seen on sony sites etc that one of the Z come with dual SSD hard drives.
I have a Z26GN with the standard spinning disc harddrive but am looking to put an SSD in.
I was just wondering does this mean the Z series laptops have room for 2 harddrives? Thus allowing me to keep my existing one in and add the new one?
Also with regards to SSD I've been told the intel X-25 80gb is a good choice.
I was wondering is there anything better than this?
And what do sony put in the Z series themselves?
There is only 1 device on my laptop and it is the Mata DVD-RAM drive but under device manager it shows that and OTSPIXK YR4DUBOHI SCSI CDROM DEVICE, and when i open my computer it shows DVD RAM and BD ROM

Has anyone done this? Have you seen any improvement in performance? I have been debating on doing this for several reasons.
1. Speed (is it really faster? I have read were some systems can boot up in 10 seconds)
2. Battery - has anyone seen an increase in battery life?
3. Heat & Sound - I assume the system is nearly silent with an SSD. How about heat - does it run cooler?
I had a question on the SSD drives used in the FW590 CTO (configure-to-order).
I know that they have a 128GB option and also a 256GB option for their SSD drives and wanted to know the make/model/manufacturer of the drives.
As we know, there is a world of difference between the performance of the various SSD drives available, with the Intel models being the highest performing ones, while some of the other SSD drive models being pretty poor from a performance perspective.
I talked to Sony support who expressed complete ignorance on the make/model/manufacturer of the SSD drives employed in the FW models (VGNFW590 CTO is the model I am looking for) and thus was wondering if the folks on the forum know the details on it.
Where and how can one buy replacement optical drives for Sony laptops and notebooks? The sonystyle site does not list them in stock. Sony parts phone support might be an option, but I fear I might be offered a model that is not compatible.
I own a 2007 vintage Vaio VGN FZ190 notebook with a drive that should burn Blu-ray, DVD, or CD. I edit video and have burned maybe 50 DVDs and perhaps 25 Blu-ray discs.
Last week, the drive began to fail to recognize blank Blu-ray media. Then it lost the ability to play burned discs, even rented commercial discs, which I tested to make sure the problem did not owe to defective media........................
I am trying to partition my HDD on Sony EB, but for some wired reason it says that I can not resize to the size I want.
(using Windows Disk Management)
Do I have to reinstall windows 7,
in order to be able to resize my HDD or there are other ways of handling this issue? a partition program
I have 4 partitions on my disk as shown in Disk Management. I don't use hibernation, so I want to reclaim the 8GB partition for use as storage. I have a few questions regarding this.
1) What will I compromise if I remove the 8GB partition, other than hibernation?
2) I right-clicked on the OS partition and selected "Shrink Volume". I received the popup shown in the attached image below. It doesn't reflect anything about returning the 8GB partition to the OS partition. In fact, shrinking goes against my intention of expanding the OS partition to include the 8GB. Right-clicking on the 8GB partition only brings up "Help" in the context menu and is not shrinkable.
3) Can I do this any time after having used the laptop for a while, with data and programs already installed? Does the process affect existing files and installations?
under Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management there is a partition without a Volume Name that is 10.37 GB big and has a status of "Healthy (EISA Configuration)". Is this the recovery partition? If so, how do I delete it? Right Clicking on it, unlike the other two partitions I have, doesn't give me an option to delete or format.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis concerns the Sony Vaio SR 290c model.
Recently I deleted the "hidden" partition that was used to store recovery files. However,
after I formatted the drive, it has not showed up in "my computers." I was wondering
if anyone could advice me on how to basically make the hidden partition become visible on my computer
i want to create a partition on my 320gb vaio z hard drive so i can install windows 7 beta and dual boot vista and windows 7.
However i am running into a problem; when i try to partition using the built in partition tool once vista is done querying for available shrink space vista is telling me that i can only shrink 9.9gb out of my available 296gb of space left.
Now i ran a defrag, deleted old system restores and shadown copies and the available size hasn't changed.
I just bought Vaio Fw590 with 320 Gb, do you guys know how to do disk partition without deleting the current factory recovery system/ file?
is it recommended to have disk partition?
I have recently purchased a Sony Vaio TT11M/N and am looking to delete the recovery partition as i have created the recovery discs.
The only problem is i cannot find the partition. I was under the impression that the partition would be under a separate drive like d:, but there is only one drive the c:. How do i delete the recovery partition and where is it?
The HD size is 120GB and it shows at 104GB. But the available amount is just over 80GB.
Still setting up my new Z. I had to do a full recovery to get out of a bad software.
Due to some esoteric software, installing all my software on my C drive takes about 30 hours. (Much of it unattended but still, a huge effort.)
I am going to partition off the C drive for programs after the install. The D drive will be for my data.
I have a 1 Tb portable external drive.
Once I set up the C drive to exactly how I need it to be, I would like to somehow mirror that C partition onto the portable hard drive. Then if my C drive corrupts after use, I can just remirror it from the image on the portable drive quickly for a 'fresh install' performance.
But since the portable drive is 1 Tb, i still want to use the excess space to write other data without ruining the C drive's image.
I have a VaiO SZ 75 G/N, and it has a recovery partition, which is hidden as you know. Recently, I just bought a new HDD and I replaced it with the original HDD, which contains the recovery partition. Now I use the ori HDD as external HDD but I want to copy the recovery partition out as the back up of the original windows and settings.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new Vaio Z! It's amazing but I don't like that Sony created one large C partition. I have the model with a 256GB SSD (128 x 2?). Is there a way that I can keep each drive separate (have C, D drives)? I like keeping my personal data separate from the OS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new FW285DH. The hard drive is 350GB 7200rpm. I found there is hidden 10gb at the first partition for recovery. You can't see that in My Computer. You can only see it in Disk Management. Since I don't need vista any more, I deleted that partition and make myself 10gb more space.
When you do a clean installation of Windows 7, it will force a 200mb at the first partition which is also a hidden partition. I wonder what is that 200mb partition for. There is no such thing in Vista.
Could someone help, when i press f8 at boot, it doesnt have the option to reinstall OS.
