Can you format the FW 500GB into two drives? a C drive for programmes and a D drive for documents etc
View 5 Replies View Relatedhow many hard drives could fit in the Vaio Z, because on the SonyStyle site when configuring the HD's and choosing for example 256GB SSD it shows 2x128GB SSD. Does this mean 2x SSD hard drives? If so then I'm wondering why they don't make the option available to put in 2x256GB SSD's. Also, if 2 SSD's are possible, are 2 standard 2,5" spinning HD's possible?
View 10 Replies View Relatedyou get a Z11 configured with one SSD drive, is it possible to later install a second drive on your own? Also, can you install a normal hard drive as a second drive? Like can you get a 128gig SSD drive as a boot drive and then install a 2.5" Hard Drive in the second slot?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a VGN-Z590. Pretty much fully loaded with blu-ray burner.
When I got my laptop I immediately swapped out the drive for a 300GB 7200 RPM drive.
I know they are still not cheap - but for right around $500 you can get 256MB SSD drives.
Have a VGN-A195EP with C drive 30gb, abd D drive 30GB, as usual C is full of junk, and D is empty and useless. The lappy is ok, and I hate waste, I'm sure with a bit more breathing room on the C drive I'll get a little more life out of it.
way of merging C and D without doing a format and re-install?
I was looking and I understand the Z series can have 2 SSD's and was thinking maybe the S series can have 2 also.
is so that would be cool, since arent SSD's the same size as a regular HD at least they look like it
I've seen on sony sites etc that one of the Z come with dual SSD hard drives.
I have a Z26GN with the standard spinning disc harddrive but am looking to put an SSD in.
I was just wondering does this mean the Z series laptops have room for 2 harddrives? Thus allowing me to keep my existing one in and add the new one?
Also with regards to SSD I've been told the intel X-25 80gb is a good choice.
I was wondering is there anything better than this?
And what do sony put in the Z series themselves?
There is only 1 device on my laptop and it is the Mata DVD-RAM drive but under device manager it shows that and OTSPIXK YR4DUBOHI SCSI CDROM DEVICE, and when i open my computer it shows DVD RAM and BD ROM

Has anyone done this? Have you seen any improvement in performance? I have been debating on doing this for several reasons.
1. Speed (is it really faster? I have read were some systems can boot up in 10 seconds)
2. Battery - has anyone seen an increase in battery life?
3. Heat & Sound - I assume the system is nearly silent with an SSD. How about heat - does it run cooler?
I had a question on the SSD drives used in the FW590 CTO (configure-to-order).
I know that they have a 128GB option and also a 256GB option for their SSD drives and wanted to know the make/model/manufacturer of the drives.
As we know, there is a world of difference between the performance of the various SSD drives available, with the Intel models being the highest performing ones, while some of the other SSD drive models being pretty poor from a performance perspective.
I talked to Sony support who expressed complete ignorance on the make/model/manufacturer of the SSD drives employed in the FW models (VGNFW590 CTO is the model I am looking for) and thus was wondering if the folks on the forum know the details on it.
Where and how can one buy replacement optical drives for Sony laptops and notebooks? The sonystyle site does not list them in stock. Sony parts phone support might be an option, but I fear I might be offered a model that is not compatible.
I own a 2007 vintage Vaio VGN FZ190 notebook with a drive that should burn Blu-ray, DVD, or CD. I edit video and have burned maybe 50 DVDs and perhaps 25 Blu-ray discs.
Last week, the drive began to fail to recognize blank Blu-ray media. Then it lost the ability to play burned discs, even rented commercial discs, which I tested to make sure the problem did not owe to defective media........................
I wanted something light and powerful, the vaio z fitted the bill perfectly (could have a better graphics, but nothing is perfect) I tried hard and bought it. There is no question, that there is no competitor to vaio Z.
As I said I don't have much money so I bought the z21wn/b, p9500, 4GB, 250 GB, 9300 gs.
I was thinking of getting a 32 or 64 gb ssd to have the OS and important stuff, and a regular hdd for storage. But as I've seen in this forum, that is impossible, or not for a regular guy.
The solution is only one ssd and no hdd.
I found a post where it says there are some vaio z models where you can find two 1.8" ssd, then here is the question:
Is it possible to fit one 1.8" inch hdd and a 1.8" ssd in a vaio z, without lots of engineering?
So I'm just browsing the XPS 1645 as I was curious about looking at the i7 configurations. Is it just me or has Dell taken off all Blu-Ray options?

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy notebook has the optiarc 5500S BD Rom and I've only had it for a couple days. I've tried a few blu rays using quickplay but the playback is a little stuttery, especially when skipping from scene to scene. Overall, playback is fairly smooth but my eyes are really picky and I can tell it's not as smooth and fluid as it would be if I were to watch it on my ps3.
I'm wondering if PowerDVD (blu ray version) would be smoother. What are your experiences with blu ray on your notebooks and what software do you use?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have 2 WD Elements External Drives - 640GB each, one formatted in FAT32, the other in NTFS.
I know OS X does not write NTFS drives, but I've got NTFS for MAC installed.
I have a problem: Everytime I connect either drive and leave them for sometime (at times just a couple of minutes) they eject unexpectedly. An error message pops up saying that the drive has not been properly ejected.
However, there are times where I can connect without problems but when I try to copy a file, half-way it disconnects again (This is with the NTFS-formatted drive)
On my FAT32 drive, when I connect successfully, either I can copy stuff, or the message : "Error Code 0, unexpected error occured" pops out
What should I do? I have disabled the NTFS for MAC driver but it does not solve my problem.
I just checked out Dells web site for the Studio 17 and on the menu you can select 1 500G drive or 2 320G drives.
Does the Studio 17 have slots for two drives ??
If not, does the second drive just come in an extra box ??
What manufacture drives does Dell use these days ?
I'm having a real puzzling problem ... after removing the mother board of my dell c840 to fix a loose ac adapter jack (which was repaired successfully) now after windows xp starts i noticed that neither the opitcal drive a toshiba sdr2102 cdrw/dvd rom drive or the expansion bay cd rom drive a samsung sn-124 drive are working at all..
the are listed in the device manager with a yellow warning flag.. the driver details says error 39 the drivers cant be loaded.... i have tried removing/uninstalling the drives and rebooting ......
but still same problem remains.... the drives do not show up on the my computer listing either...
I have the following 3 drives on my Dell XPS 1530 notebook as it came from Dell :
1)Drive C :Which has all the Windows files
2)Drive D: Which has other files
3)Drive E :Which has the Recovery files
So far I have enabled System Restore only for Drive C.
Is it advisable to enable System restore for Drives D and E also ?
Im particularly asking for Drive D as system restore eats lots of space if it is enabled in Drive D.
Are there any risks if system restore is not enabled for Drive D and E
Can't locate info on the "mobility SSD" drives.
Are they 2.5 or 3.5? 1.8?
I currently have a 74gig raptor in my desktop, and I'm going to switch to a notebook for college.
I was wondering how the 7200rpm drives on the m1330 and m1530 compare to this.
is it possible to add some file type to a flash drive / external hard disk to give a nice icon on the desktop for that particular drive when its plugged in? i know how to change the generic icon, but thats not what i want.
