They HAD to use a Mata UJ230AS drive didn't they?
A laptop by its very design is to be used as a portable computer, yet due to the nonsensical region coding, it means that when I go to the USA on buisness or vacation, I cannot use the DVD player!
These Matsu drives are the ONLY ones which cannot be modified to play any region.
Its unethical.
I can legitamately buy a dvd in the USA, putting money into Sony pictures coffers, yet Sony won.t allow me to play it on their laptop .....

Apr 4, 2010Just purchased F series Vaio with Blu-ray burner (Mata BD-MLT UJ240AS). Wondering if other users have experience with various blank media that work, and work best. I'm guessing the Sony BD-R will work, but there are less expensive blank discs out there.

Sep 27, 2009I recently bought the dv6-1260se, 'Artists Edition' and am so far loving it, except for the whole Windows Vista Issue.
I've had it a whole 3 days and it's already throwing errors. I installed Aion and World of Warcraft, and for one day, WoW could alt-tab fine. Now it gives a green alt-tab box and only shows the start/task bar. I hafta complete restart the entire thing to fix it, it won't even tab back to the game. Also, when I tried to use a bluetooth mouse, it started throwing HID errors. I update the quicklauch buttons like the HP help suggested, but still no luck. I got the bluetooth mouse to work, but discovered it was pretty bleh and it lagged when in games. Windows Vista is up-to-date save for Service Pack 2. The ATI video drivers are also updated from ATI.
I have Windows 7 RC on all the other computers in the house, and had it on my prior Compaq 3 year old beast before the board fried itself for the last time. I've already pre-ordered my Windows 7 for this laptop through HP, but I'm not sure if I can wait till oct. 22.
However, the Artists Edition comes with alot of decent preloaded software. Corel's paintshop pro, painter and something else. Also there's Stardock's MyColors, LoginStudio and I think Object Desktop. Some of these programs have a beta for Win 7, others don't.
However, I don't have registration keys or anything for these programs. I don't think I'll have problems with Corel's stuff (if Win 7 translates the reg keys correctly), but Stardock's stuff will hafta be eventally updated and they need keys for updates.

May 20, 2009after lots of considering and looking for alternatives I finally ordered a 2530p today. After all, I think this is the best notebook for me.
I never bought a computer where a full windows version is not available on CD and thus never had bad experience with lots of stuff preinstalled.
How bad are the 'extras' on HP business computers in Europe? And do you have any advice on how to clear the computer up and what to delete?

Apr 28, 2009I got my studio 1537 and found c drive which has Vista (64 bit) has 290GB. Tried the Disk management tool on vista to shrink this huge volume but it allows to make the c drive of size 240 GB and not lesser.
Now I want to have my data on different volumes so that OS reinstall should not delete my data. How do I go about doing this.

Jan 21, 2010I have an acer aspire 6930z with a bluetooth button but no hardware installed, though the software is installed. I have bought a bluetooth dongle and installed it on my desktop running xp everything works OK. Installed it on my laptop but it only partly works with the pre-installed software. I don't know how to remove the installed software.
It does say in the installation instructions that any old bluetooth software should be removed first.

Mar 29, 2013I have a hp pavilion touch 14 notebook pc which turned out to have a faulty Hard disk as the OS was not booting and the system test's indicated that the hard disk had errors. I replaced the hard disk with a new one and before installing the Hard Disk I formatted it with a win 8.1 installation. I was thinking the laptop would just boot normally to win8, but instead gave me a screen saying:
boot device not found please install an operating system on your hard disk hard disk (3f0)
The hard disk is new and I don't no how its giving me this error!
Also, this laptop doesn't seem to want to boot from a cd to format!

I have the philips dvd burner that came with the laptop and I simply do not like it. Some CDs it wont even read, while other drives can read them.

Jun 22, 2009I noticed that dell list two compatible models, YP311 and XX243. On Dells website they both have identical descriptions. I assume Dell is just switching between two different manufactures.

May 6, 2009I have a dv5 1010tx (Vista Ultimate 64), which has an Optiarc BC 5500s Blu-ray player/ DVD burner combo. I have found the burner has trouble reading DVD'S it has burned, especially DL. Have tried different media, even Verbatim. My toshiba laptop seems to read these disks with ease, so I suspect it's a firmware issue. Has anyone else had this problem, & has anyone found a solution. No reply from my enquiry to HP as yet, & the firmware updates provided on the Optiarc site are said to be not compatible with drives installed by HP, Dell ect. I also note this was a problem with the BC 5600s, for which HP provided a firmware update earlier this year.

Go to My Computer, right-click drive and go to Properties. Then the hardware tab and it's the thing that ISN'T your hard drive. Or Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Dell :: E6400 DVD Burner Sound
May 7, 2009I recently purchased an e6400 off of the business outlet, and everything is in working condition. However, upon insertion of the cd disk tray, there is a sound which I have never prior heard coming from a cd drive
(boilerinvasion.org/2010/VORC003.wav for a recording. IE7 will open it, IE8 will not).
I went ahead and contacted CS, and they overnighted a replacement, which I put in, but it still has the same sound, though to a lesser degree as far as I can tell.
1. Is this normal, or is this a problem with the dvd drive/notebook as a whole .....

Dell :: Direct Swap With Blu-ray Burner From Xps 16?
Apr 13, 2010Does anyone know if the blu-ray burner that is used in the XPS 16 can be used as a direct swap in the studio 15?
The reason I am asking is because I have a 16 with the blu-ray burner but the xps 16 is a bit bulky. I still need equivalent power and multi-media capabilities but the 15 is almost a pound lighter and lends to a little more portability.
I am considering purchasing the studio 15 but can't justify the costs of adding the blu-ray. I got my xps 16 with blu-ray for a steal and I can't duplicate those kind of savings with the changes recently made to EPP.
Ideally, I would like to swap the dvd drive and throw it into the 16 in addition to adding the blu-ray to the 15.

Feb 1, 2010My sister has a HP laptop with a bad DVD burner, it won't burn and it makes a grinding sound whenever a disk is in the drive. I don't know the model, anyway it's still under warranty and I'm wonder if she will have to send the laptop back in order for them to replace it. Sending it back is a big no no, and I can replace the drive myself.

Do you have to buy from Dell? Is this drive compatible with the inspiron 9300? I have modded the bios on my 9300 to the M170 bios. Also, will my video card handle this drive and blu-ray movies? I have a 7800 GTX.
