I wanted to know if the "CD/DVD burner" listed under the Sony F series configuration, from the sony website, was a Dual Layer DVD burner or just a regular dvd burner?
I have a dv5 1010tx (Vista Ultimate 64), which has an Optiarc BC 5500s Blu-ray player/ DVD burner combo. I have found the burner has trouble reading DVD'S it has burned, especially DL. Have tried different media, even Verbatim. My toshiba laptop seems to read these disks with ease, so I suspect it's a firmware issue. Has anyone else had this problem, & has anyone found a solution. No reply from my enquiry to HP as yet, & the firmware updates provided on the Optiarc site are said to be not compatible with drives installed by HP, Dell ect. I also note this was a problem with the BC 5600s, for which HP provided a firmware update earlier this year.
My sister has a HP laptop with a bad DVD burner, it won't burn and it makes a grinding sound whenever a disk is in the drive. I don't know the model, anyway it's still under warranty and I'm wonder if she will have to send the laptop back in order for them to replace it. Sending it back is a big no no, and I can replace the drive myself.
if any of you dv4t owners have run into the same issue trying to replace your hard drive... I opened the hard drive cover, removed the 3 screws holding the drive in place, and tried pulling up on the metal tab (the one facing the inside of the notebook) but couldn't get the drive free... I've been struggling to get the drive out for awhile now without any luck. Out of desperation I used a pair of pliers to try and get a better grip on the tab, but all I ended up doing was bending the outer casing (not the drive) slightly. It's like it glued in there or something!
last summer I was given a HP Pavillion dv5 that had a little problem with his screen:
The part number of the piece is 484363-001, and it seems it has to be WXGA because of the resolution (1280x800). Is there any problem if it's WSXGA instead?
i have a 3 years old hp pavilion dv2129ea. recently i decided to upgrade it, so i replaced the 1gig ram to 2gig, and went on to replacing the 80gig hard drive. i searched the internet for compatible hdd and eventually i bought a 250gig WD after making sure its compatible. to my surprise, when i tried to mount it, it didn't fit, the pins of the new drive is upside down comparing to the original, plus, the pins of the original drive protrude a bit from the frame. so now i have a 250gig drive which i can't return or use, but the real problem is that i still want to buy a new drive but i don't know how to make sure it's compatible.
here are the specs & the pics:

if i can add a Graphic card( probably an 8800) on my HP HDX 18t( model= X18-1175EE).I know that the general answer is no, however, lately i ve been hearing that you can actually add one if u have an expansion slot( i think mine is level 3).
if the default HP Quick Launch Button software will control an Intel 5100 abgn (512an_mmw) card? I have an Atheros in my Pavillion G70 and want to be rid of that particular card and it's drivers.
Im looking to replace my optical drive (wont read anything) ideally with something better. The problem is I havent found anything equivalent to a compatibility chart so as to choose from several options.
The notebook is an HP dv6304nr and it has an Optiarc AD-7530A...Can anyone offer a better compatible drive?
When I replaced my customer's screen on their COmpaq- CQ62-219WM and it showing up black. When I shine a flashlight in it I can see the start menu and whatnot. That means that I need to file a RMA right? I am guessing because the blacklight is out.
Except one thing. They HAD to use a Mata UJ230AS drive didn't they?
A laptop by its very design is to be used as a portable computer, yet due to the nonsensical region coding, it means that when I go to the USA on buisness or vacation, I cannot use the DVD player!
These Matsu drives are the ONLY ones which cannot be modified to play any region. Its unethical.
I can legitamately buy a dvd in the USA, putting money into Sony pictures coffers, yet Sony won.t allow me to play it on their laptop .....
I noticed that dell list two compatible models, YP311 and XX243. On Dells website they both have identical descriptions. I assume Dell is just switching between two different manufactures.
Does anyone have any advice if one functions better then the other?
Are there drivers for the factory latitude d600 cd/dvd burner? My father bought a brand new dell studio laptop and he had an old d600 with the cd/dvd burner and i took the burner from his computer and put it in my latitude d600 which did not have the cd/dvd burner .....
I use my m1710 to edit digital video i need a 100% reliable external drive to Burn with.
whats the best current drive with best results, I know this is subjective but any thoughts would be apreciated always heard NEC drives are good
need my customers to be able to go home and the disk to work, have had to reduce my current samsung drive down to 4 speed from 8 as getting a few clitches.
Just purchased F series Vaio with Blu-ray burner (Mata BD-MLT UJ240AS). Wondering if other users have experience with various blank media that work, and work best. I'm guessing the Sony BD-R will work, but there are less expensive blank discs out there.
I just need the model name. Manufacturer if you can get it.
Go to My Computer, right-click drive and go to Properties. Then the hardware tab and it's the thing that ISN'T your hard drive. Or Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.
I recently purchased an e6400 off of the business outlet, and everything is in working condition. However, upon insertion of the cd disk tray, there is a sound which I have never prior heard coming from a cd drive
(boilerinvasion.org/2010/VORC003.wav for a recording. IE7 will open it, IE8 will not).
I went ahead and contacted CS, and they overnighted a replacement, which I put in, but it still has the same sound, though to a lesser degree as far as I can tell. 1. Is this normal, or is this a problem with the dvd drive/notebook as a whole .....
i got a problem with my dvd burner ( Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P ATA Device ). I tried to burn a DVD-RW. But it just wont burn, although it does reconnizes the DVD.
I already came to some threads here, which said this particular drive has problems with DVD burning. But why do they place it in my laptop?
Does anyone know if the blu-ray burner that is used in the XPS 16 can be used as a direct swap in the studio 15?
The reason I am asking is because I have a 16 with the blu-ray burner but the xps 16 is a bit bulky. I still need equivalent power and multi-media capabilities but the 15 is almost a pound lighter and lends to a little more portability.
I am considering purchasing the studio 15 but can't justify the costs of adding the blu-ray. I got my xps 16 with blu-ray for a steal and I can't duplicate those kind of savings with the changes recently made to EPP.
Ideally, I would like to swap the dvd drive and throw it into the 16 in addition to adding the blu-ray to the 15.
just looking for software/firmware (if i need any) to support the OEM dell blu-ray burner for the m1730 as i just ordered one from an online store...
just curious...i assume that vista will go to windows update to look for drivers when i install the new drive....not entirely sure. i looked on dell's web site and did not find blu-ray specific software for the m1730....
Is there a place that sells the blu-ray burner that dell puts into their laptops now?
Do you have to buy from Dell? Is this drive compatible with the inspiron 9300? I have modded the bios on my 9300 to the M170 bios. Also, will my video card handle this drive and blu-ray movies? I have a 7800 GTX.
