Dell :: If You Have A Blu-ray Burner....I Need Two Minutes Of Your Time

Sep 23, 2009

I just need the model name. Manufacturer if you can get it.

Go to My Computer, right-click drive and go to Properties. Then the hardware tab and it's the thing that ISN'T your hard drive. Or Device Manager, expand DVD/CD-ROM drives.

I am tired of the one I have now. It takes well over 30 minutes to burn just one CD.

I have the philips dvd burner that came with the laptop and I simply do not like it. Some CDs it wont even read, while other drives can read them.

Dell :: Hard Drive Clicks From Time To Time

Jan 22, 2009

My laptop is an inspiron 1520, about a year old now. Ever since I've had it, the hard disk drive has been making a loud, random click from time to time. Sometimes, it will click twice in the space of two minutes, sometimes it will click only once in two or three days.

Typically it's simply a loud snapping sound, like if you get a pencil and snap it against a wooden desk. It doesn't make any other sounds besides the usual hard drive sounds.

For about a quarter of a second, the system pauses. I think it's related to heat, as it happens most often while playing a graphic-intensive game.

Does anyone have any advice if one functions better then the other?

Dell :: E6400 DVD Burner Sound

May 7, 2009

I recently purchased an e6400 off of the business outlet, and everything is in working condition. However, upon insertion of the cd disk tray, there is a sound which I have never prior heard coming from a cd drive

(boilerinvasion.org/2010/VORC003.wav for a recording. IE7 will open it, IE8 will not).

I went ahead and contacted CS, and they overnighted a replacement, which I put in, but it still has the same sound, though to a lesser degree as far as I can tell.
1. Is this normal, or is this a problem with the dvd drive/notebook as a whole .....

Dell :: Direct Swap With Blu-ray Burner From Xps 16?

Apr 13, 2010

Does anyone know if the blu-ray burner that is used in the XPS 16 can be used as a direct swap in the studio 15?

The reason I am asking is because I have a 16 with the blu-ray burner but the xps 16 is a bit bulky. I still need equivalent power and multi-media capabilities but the 15 is almost a pound lighter and lends to a little more portability.

I am considering purchasing the studio 15 but can't justify the costs of adding the blu-ray. I got my xps 16 with blu-ray for a steal and I can't duplicate those kind of savings with the changes recently made to EPP.

Ideally, I would like to swap the dvd drive and throw it into the 16 in addition to adding the blu-ray to the 15.

Thanks in advance!

Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X100e Wireless Connection Drops From Time To Time

Jul 27, 2010

I just got my new x100e laptop today, and i really like it. But, it has a problem.

I am connected to my wireless network at home, and it works properly on my other computers at house. But on the x100e, the connection drops from time to time. Suddenly, the internet is gone, but ten seconds later, the network is back up again.

It's not that big a problem, but it is frustrating to lose the internet from time to time. It happens from every 5 minutes to once 30 minutes.

Let me know what you guys think about this.

Sony :: FW Blu Ray/DVD Burner

Mar 17, 2009

Except one thing.
They HAD to use a Mata UJ230AS drive didn't they?

A laptop by its very design is to be used as a portable computer, yet due to the nonsensical region coding, it means that when I go to the USA on buisness or vacation, I cannot use the DVD player!

These Matsu drives are the ONLY ones which cannot be modified to play any region.
Its unethical.

I can legitamately buy a dvd in the USA, putting money into Sony pictures coffers, yet Sony won.t allow me to play it on their laptop .....

HP/Compaq :: Blu-ray Player/DVD Burner On Dv5

May 6, 2009

I have a dv5 1010tx (Vista Ultimate 64), which has an Optiarc BC 5500s Blu-ray player/ DVD burner combo. I have found the burner has trouble reading DVD'S it has burned, especially DL. Have tried different media, even Verbatim. My toshiba laptop seems to read these disks with ease, so I suspect it's a firmware issue. Has anyone else had this problem, & has anyone found a solution. No reply from my enquiry to HP as yet, & the firmware updates provided on the Optiarc site are said to be not compatible with drives installed by HP, Dell ect. I also note this was a problem with the BC 5600s, for which HP provided a firmware update earlier this year.

Not sure what is causing this. Maybe someone else who had this issue and solved it can help me out. This is NOT the same as the crackling issue (which is solved by the Intel Matrix Controller drivers).

I am running Vista Business using the IDT drivers from Dell website. No other software from Dell installed other than the Matrix Controller driver. I am playing in Winamp. But notice it happens in WMP also.

CPU is not stressed at all. I am running on the High Performance profile (clock shouldn't be modulated).

Dell :: Studio XPS 13 (M1340) Freezes For Minutes And HDD LED Continously Lit

Dec 9, 2009

My Studio XPS 13 (M1340) freezes every now and then, getting to an unusable state, and the HDD LED stays continously lit during the period. This condition lasts for minutes (more than 2, one time I got a 10 minute freeze!), and then the system gets back to normal. No BSOD, no error message, nothing. During this "frozen state" I can't do absolutely nothing: can't ALT-TAB windows, system doesn't respond to mouse clicks, not even CTRL-ALT-DEL works. After the system resumes to normal condition all key presses and mouse clicks done during the frozen period are "interpreted", as if they had been queued while the system was frozen.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 bit (even did a fresh install). The HDD is a Western Digital WD3200BJKT. There's no clicking sound whatsoever, as a matter of fact I can't even hear HDD activity during these freezes, it is just the HDD LED that gets continously lit (i.e. no blinking).

I called tech support in Brazil, upgraded the BIOS to v A11 and did a thorough HDD test while in the call. HDD passed each and every test. Because of this the tech support guy refused to authorize service on the notebook, saying it is a software-related issue.

I'm waiting for my Windows 7 upgrade kit to arrive, hoping that this is an issue with Vista. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Specs:

* Intel P9600 processor
* 4GB RAM
* WLED display
* NVIDIA GeForce 9500M
* 320MB, 7,200RPM hard disk (WD P/N: WD3200BJKT)
* Dell 1510 WiFi
* Dell 370 Bluetooth
* Vista Ultimate 64 bits
