Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X100e Wireless Connection Drops From Time To Time
Jul 27, 2010
I just got my new x100e laptop today, and i really like it. But, it has a problem.
I am connected to my wireless network at home, and it works properly on my other computers at house. But on the x100e, the connection drops from time to time. Suddenly, the internet is gone, but ten seconds later, the network is back up again.
It's not that big a problem, but it is frustrating to lose the internet from time to time. It happens from every 5 minutes to once 30 minutes.

I own a Z series Z540. After multiple Vista reinstalls and driver reinstalls, the wireless connection always drops. It would maintain connection for about 5 minutes, then it drops again. The wireless light stays on though.
I tried going on XP and ssee how that works out. Same problem, except that it drops when I MOVE it. And when it drops, the wireless light turns off, and when I move it back into a certain position again, the wireless light goes back on, and the wireless is back.
However, when I am on vista, the connection just drops for no reason, even without touching it, every 5 minutes. The light does stay on, though.

I've got a problem. I have an HP monitor with a VGA output, and a TV with HDMI.
They both work, but not at the same time. I can use one, or the other, but together? Nada. I want to extend my screen to the monitor, and then the TV.

my x230's fan is most of the time running full speed, and returns to regular (almost no noise level) for only a few minutes.I just got this x230 for less than a month and i notice this since most of my colleagues' laptops are all the time quiet compared to mine, which is a lot newer than theirs.Later on I will try the Full HW scan & see how it goes.

I have a (long out-of-warranty) X100e of the dual-core model (notorious for running hot), which I have been running Linux on; the issue in question is hardware-related, though...
I've been trying to get an amd64 kernel going, with some issues. So I booted an amd64 kernel with init=/bin/sh, tried getting wireless going, and figured that I needed a different kernel, which I set about compiling...
The laptop reached 92 C and apparently tried to shutdown, but apparently shutdown does not work right if init is not running. So I came back to find it still running, at ~65 C, but with messages to the effect that it had reached 94 C on the screen. I put the fan on full bore, left it running for a while, then turned it off.
Now, here's the problem: When I tried to turn it on (battery in place, plugged in), the green light around the power button just started blinking slowly (about once per second), with the fan intermittently attempting to start (very short bits of an almost whining noise). There was no indication of any signal reaching the display/of the bios starting.
The power light stays green while it is plugged in. Same symptoms when the battery is removed and it is plugged in. With battery only, the power button blinks on when pressed, then turns off. The fan turns on briefly once. Then it turns off. The power light in front blinks on and then turns off
So far, I've tried several variants of "hold down the power button while unplugged with the battery removed." All of that has been to no effect. Looking through the HMM does not indicate anything as far as what might cause this.

I've used my x100e today to take a measurement via LAN-port with a camera. I left the room to do some other staff and when I cam back the screen was filled with a horizontal black-darkgrey line pattern. I switched the x100e off by holding the power button for 4 seconds.
If i switch it on again, the power light shines, the fan is blowing and the hard disk is spinning, but the screen stays dark and there's no power beep or something like that. I also tried another power pack and with the battery inserted, it's always the same problem.
Seems like this problem already appeared. So what can I do? Approximately how much would the repair be?

I just purchased the Ideapad S415 Touch. The wifi connection drops OFTEN. It still shows that it is connected, but there is no internet pages load, email stops working, etc. If I hit "disconnect" on the connection, then hit "connect" again, it works great . . . . for a few more minutes or an hour or whatever. I went into "properties" and changed the settings on roaming and power management per an article I found on this site. I think this may have worked a bit, but it's still happening.

I bought my Acer Aspire E1-57G 2 months ago. U put win7 64bit on him and installed som drivers. All worked fine for some time. 1 week ago my internet slowed down randomly, and only on this notebook.
I googeld a little bit and i decided to go for win 8.1 and original drivers. I installed everything but the problem with WLAN adapter was still there. If i started loading a web page sometimes it loads completely with no problems and everything is fine for some time (5 min) then pages start to loading slow or not at all. And like that all the time.
When I download something it ether downloads "fast" like 500 - 800 kbps or not at all 0kbps. On other notebooks wireless connection is ok, and at the same time when thisone is slow others do well. Win update is not slowing connection (OFF), firewall is ok, power management set to be max for wlan adapter. I tried every solution that i found on the internet.
So what is the problem (is it WLAN adapter) and how to fix it?

I'm having major problems with connecting to the wireless network in the office. It sees the network, allows me to enter the security credentials, then connects (with confimed internet connectivity) but drops out after 10-20 seconds. I have tried the wireless network at a friend's house which worked ok without any interruptions, so it is definitely nothing wrong with the hardware. I'm using a brand new Acer Aspire V3-572-56T3 on Windows 8.1, with all the latest drivers/patches loaded and have tried fiddling with many of the advanced settings for the network adapter to no avail. I logged on to the router to ensure all settings, encryption standards, channels etc. were matching but the problem keeps persisting. This has been ongoing for two days now and is driving me insane as I really need to have wi-fi working in the office. Plugging an ethernet cable straight into the router works fine but it's not the ideal solution (and is posing an OH&S hazard as it is laying on the floor).
FYI I have run diagnostics several times & the one thing that stood out was this:
Diagnostics Information (Wireless Connectivity)Association status: Fail 0x00038002Association reason code: 0x00000002

I have a Lenovo G510 and Windows 8.1. I can´t use keyboard and mouse at the same time. When i typing the mousepad locks. I guess this is a feature but I wan´t it turned off but I don´t know how to do that.
I have tested with the drivers for Windows 8.1 and Windows 8, listed here: [URL] ....
I then even tried with installing the driver for Windows 8 from: [URL] ....
But when I got through the installation process the "installation program" says the driver couldn´t be installed.
I tried with the advice in this thread: [URL] ....
but I have synaptics 7.5 and not 7.4. I also tried fixing with the register but didn´t find the entry PalmKms. I did do find other entries with Palm.
I see this as a major problem since it makes me completely unable to use any program that require simultaneously use of the keyboard and mouse. Therefore I guess that must be a solution for this?

Just to clarify the subject, the right click that takes a long time to show up is when it's done on the desktop or when you right-click in a windows explorer folder, blank area witnothing selected (like to create a new folder or something). When you right-click, it shows the blue circular thing to sow it's tinking about it, it's loading and takes about 8 seconds to pop up after the click. Right-clicking on selected files, folders or in any other software, pops up instantly without issue.
It's a brand new Y40 laptop running windows 8.1. i7-4520U (2.00Ghz 1600MHz 4MB), AMD Radeon R9 M275 2GB, 8GB Ram, 1TB 5400 RPM,
I've updated the Radeon drivers with no improvement. It works perfectly in safe mode,

I got my Ideapad y410p a week ago. It came with Windows 8 and many useless softwares installed. It was taking around 3 minutes of time and immediately i updated my os to 8.1 (x64). Even after updating to 8.1, the boot time didn't get any better. I unistalled useless softwares like Mcafee, Cyberlink tools and many and installed AntiVir and Visual Studio. Turn on Fast startup is also enabled. But what is painful is it still takes 2 minutes and 31 seconds plus to load my desktop. What is more painful to me is My old laptop (Amd Dual Core, 3GB Ram with Many softwares installed with windows 7) loads earlier than this.

My problem with Lenovo G470 is this: every 10, 12 days it shutdowns and can't use it for a time. I'm doing anything (listening to music, writting a text, etc) or sometimes I'm afk and just doing nothing and it happens anyway. And then, for a time it's impossible to start windows. I turn on the laptop and the Lenovo logo appears, but then just shuts down.
Maybe 4-5 hours later it starts to work ok again. Im not sure aboout this because when this happen i usually leave it there and come back the next day.
Also, this happens on battery or plugged in. Is the same. Another weird thing that occurs sometimes is that when I'm using it on battery and I turn it off, the laptop shutdown, but the on/off button light doesn't turns off. I need to plug it in to solve this. I don't know if could be related, but I replaced the W7 home basic with the ultimate version. While I had it with home basic this didn't happened, but it was a short time (2 days) so I couldn't determine if this is related. Anyway I have the recovery CDs if a probable solution would be that.
I've read here about solutions like flashing the bios. I didn't do it but I could try it if you think it could work. I don't know if there are new updates. The truth is I'm a total newbie on flashing the bios.I can't turn on the laptop with the on/off button. But if I press space and escape it turns on again, and fails again of course.

It really annoys me that my new laptop, (Just a week old) when turned on takes a very long time before it starts. After the HP logo, it will show a blank page where my cursor can be moved, then it will stay a very a long time so I end up shutting it down then turning on again and again until it finally starts up. This really takes a lot of my time specially I use my laptop for work.

My laptop is an inspiron 1520, about a year old now. Ever since I've had it, the hard disk drive has been making a loud, random click from time to time. Sometimes, it will click twice in the space of two minutes, sometimes it will click only once in two or three days.
Typically it's simply a loud snapping sound, like if you get a pencil and snap it against a wooden desk. It doesn't make any other sounds besides the usual hard drive sounds.
For about a quarter of a second, the system pauses. I think it's related to heat, as it happens most often while playing a graphic-intensive game.

Brand new G50-70: When using OS from the SSD or using OS from the SSD and doing things with a USB-drive, the empty internal DVD-drive making clicking sound and sometimes freezing SSD read/write operation for about 30 seconds but all the time freezing USB-storage read/write operation for about 30 seconds.
When freezing there's always clicking. But when clicking there's not always freezing except when using USB-storage.
OS is Win81-64.
An example scenario: connect USB stick, open terminal, type diskpart, dvd-drive clicks and freezes opening of diskpart for about 30 seconds, then the same may or may not happen when entering commands like clear the stick and format the stick.

My Lenovo N500 has been connected to my house network for a while now, but recently has been dropping off. It seems to last for 2-3 minutes before dropping and does not reconnect automatically.
My husband has a laptop on the same network and he does not experience the same problems, so this is not a router problem.
I have checked all the settings and nothing has changed since I was permanently connected.
This problem has only occurred in the last week or so and I really want to throw the machine out of the window at the moment.

The Broadband on my X1 Carbon (Gen 2) always fails to connect with an error message saying that "You're either out of service or SIM card not activated" while neither of these conditions are true. Oddly, SMS is working fine and I can both send and receive messages without problems.
What could be wrong? How can I diagnose and fix the issue?
Some more details:
- The ultra-book is a Type 20A7 which came with the SIM slot but no broadband modem. At that point Access Connections showed the Broadband option greyed out. I had to call support to find out why and that's when I learned there was no modem.
- Support told me to order part number 04X6038 which is a Sierra Wireless EM7355. After installing the latest driver, the Broadband option was now enabled but it still failed with the error message mentioned above.
- At the wireless store I told them it was not working and they gave me a new SIM card. This time I received a welcome SMS message. i tried sending to a few numbers and replying which works.
- The wireless provider took the IMEI number of the EM7355 and confirmed it was compatible which seems logical considering SMS is working.

I tried multiple different setting in BIOS, and am currently on
(1) Boot display device - Thinkpad LCD
(2) Graphics device - Discrete graphics
(3) OS detection for nVidia Optimus - Disabled
Shown in the screenshot is where things are wierd. With my Asus VG248HE connected via mDP to DP cable, the W530 detects the monitor, but will not allow me to enable it. When I click the white box to enable the monitor, it just thinks for a few seconds and does nothing. After the first time of thinking, it does not do anything when clicked.

Basically, i recently purchased a Lenovo Ideapad U410 blue from Canada Computer & Electronic. Everything was good until recently, I am having trouble connect to my home network!! It was fine, but two days ago, it just frequently drop out from my home wifi( keep saying limited access, no internet connection, then identifying.....no network access)
The problem is, all other devices i got are fine! My other laptop, my phone, and my ipad are all good to connect to my home wifi!!! And what's more confusing is that, my U410 is OK to connect to other network like the hotspot I set up from my iphone(just trying), my frds' wifi......And what's even more bothering, is that it happened two days ago, and yesterday the problem just magically disappeared!! I used it surfing internet for the whole last night with my home wifi and no problem with it.
However, i woke up this morning, problem popped up again,, can't connect to internet! I mean, the signal is super good!!!! no problem with detecting network, even connecting, it just wont identify or whatever. Drivers all up to date! I mean is a brand new computer....
SO is it my laptop's problem, or my network adapter's problem , or is it my router's problem!!!

I have been looking for a device that functions both as a NAS and a print server for a USB printer. My printer (and NAS-to-be) are in a different room than my current wireless router. I have a Windows 7 - based PC.
So...
I would like to be able to connect the Time Capsule to my existing wireless network.
I would like to be able to back up files over the wireless network (probably using Windows 7's included backup software).
I would like to be able to print over the wireless network. My printer is a Samsung ML-2510 printer.
Can I do this with a Time Capsule?

I bought my sony Z series in Oct 08, havent got the full spec infront of me. But it was the 4GB, 320GB model The past 18 months its been faultless apart from a problem with the left clicker under the touch pad which sony fixed very quickly.
Ive had a couple of problems recently with it overheating. Fans running at when seems like warp speed then the laptop turning off. The laptop seems to run really warm when I have the wireless on and using the internet etc. Ive done plenty of virus scans, defrags, disk clean up and cant seem to find anything un toward.
So my next port of call is to do a full system freash install. My questions are
With the speed that technology changes is it possible to upgrade any of my current Z series?
Or
would I be better off buying on of the latest Z series models?
The laptop is used alot for internet and some gaming.
