Sony :: Faint "clicking" Fan Noise During Start/stop On CS

Jan 5, 2009

I noticed that in a quiet room, with the laptop about a foot from me, I hear a slight "click" noise right when the fan starts up and spins down. Doesn't bother me, but thought it was interesting to note. I sounds like a normal fan when operating and the sound is very faint. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

Dell XPS 17 :: Clicking Noise From The Transformer

Mar 21, 2011

I noticed that there is a clicking noise from the transformer of my new laptop (XPS 17). Around the internet i found that it could be a damaged transformer... but there is another strange issue: the clicking occours ONLY when running from windows 64bit, no clicking on Ubuntu 64bit...

So.... 3 questions:

1) do you think it's damaged?

2) do you think it can harm the laptop if used WITHOUT battery mounted?

3) do you think it can harm the laptop if used WITH battery mounted?

Dell :: Random Clicking Noise While Torrenting

Aug 25, 2009

I just recently purchased a Dell Studio XPS 16 Laptop a bit over a month ago and have been experiencing a non-stop clicking noise while torrenting files.

It happens out of no where, usually around 30% into a download or more, possibly less. Around this point it will start to click continuously, and it appears I am not able to open task manager, although I am still able to talk on AIM, along with listening to a song currently open with no interruption.

I have also noticed that when I go to the Start Menu to try and restart or shut down that neither will work. This has resulted in me having to do a force shut down to stop the noise, and a reboot to run Vista normally again.

Lenovo Yoga 13 Flex :: Fan Noise Loud And Will Not Stop

Oct 27, 2012

I just got the Yoga 13 and the fan will not stop... ever... and it's loud.  It's not broken.. it works just fine, but the fan is constantly running.  This is incredibly obnoxious in a quiet space.  Is there a fix for this?  Do the later hardware revisions change the fan speed (or preferably turn it off when it's not needed)?

This was purchased from Best Buy, and the model number is much lower than the ones for sale on the lenovo website, so I'm guessing it was an earlier manufacturing run. Maybe this noisiness is by design, but I hope they recognise it's a problem and try to improve it.

I shut down the laptop as a precaution. Now it will not load Windows. I press the power button, the dell logo appears, then I hear what I think is the hard drive click, then the screen goes dark for a second, then the logo and a click and so on and so on. I am able to get to the menus with f2 and f12, what to do next. Safe mode will not respond ( I cannot get into it).

Dell XPS 14 :: UltraBook Started To Make Quiet Fast-paced Clicking Noise Inside It

Mar 3, 2013

I've recently purchased the Dell XPS 14 ultrabook and it is probably just about two months old now. Everything was so perfect until just yesterday the laptop started to make a quiet fast-paced clicking noise inside it. I don't know where it is coming from but all I know is that the noise is definitely inside the laptop. It starts usually about 2-3 minutes after turning the laptop on and then lasts for about 1-3 minutes. Is this normal? And is there a way to stop this noise? I know its just something little but I just think it's not normal to have this problem for such a new laptop.

HP/Compaq :: Dv6 Faint Vertical Lines

May 23, 2010

I just bought a dv6-2190us and I love the laptop but the screen quality is horrible.

In white areas of the screen, instead of the display being pure white, it is grainy instead, with very faint vertical lines running up and down the screen, becoming more noticable as the viewing angle changes vertically. This drives me crazy as I work with text for a living and screen quality is critical to me.

The screen quality of $399 Compaq CQ60 is head and shoulders above this.

I've tried calibrating the screen, verifying that it's in native resolution, etc, etc to no avail.

I dont think the problem is isolated to my laptop because I checked some other dv6's at bestbuy and saw the same problem.

Acer :: Audio Recording Unusably Faint With 4810TZ

Apr 30, 2010

Generally I'm very pleased with the 4810TZ, but recording from the built-in microphone or an external microphone produces very faint recordings (maybe 5-10% of normal volume). I'm using Sound Recorder in Windows 7 64-bit, with latest Windows / Acer driver for the Realtek sound device - have also tried the latest driver from Realtek.com.tw.

I've done all the normal tweaks - turn off all effects, set auto gain control, set input level to maximum, try boosting one mic channel more than other, setting +30 dB boost, etc.

I did get slightly higher recording levels in Skype 4.2, but still not enough to be usable (less than 20%). Even shouting into the mic doesn't get that much playback volume.

I've seen some reports that the 4810TZ's internal mic and sound recording used to work fine on Vista but broke with the Win7 upgrade.

Has anyone out there had success with recording on the 4810TZ, using any non-USB microphone, internal or external? Would really like to hear from people using any Windows version, XP/Vista or 7, just to see if it's possible or a hardware issue.

Sony :: Is There A List Of Processes I Can Stop On A Vaio

Jun 9, 2009

Or remove completely. Some of them don't even have descriptions, but bluetooth for instance I don't use, I could stop those three? Then that would leave only EIGHTY. There are so many processes running, almost all of them say 00- but I take it that doesn't mean they are not using the processor & more to my concern heating up my notebook?

Is there a list of processes somewhere I could safely stop on a vaio? For someone who is not up to the task of clean install (I read the sticky), I'm just wondering if there's anything else that could make a difference before I accept a restocking fee.

Acer :: Aspire 6930G Unplugged Make A Faint Buzzing Sound

Aug 27, 2009

I've recently bought an Acer Aspire 6930G and am overall very pleased with it.

However, in the few weeks since i've bought it there has been one concern I have had.

Whenever the laptop is unplugged from the mains, it starts to make a faint buzzing sound. The sound seems to come from the 'tube' near the subwoofer on the back (where the power socket is on one side, and the Kensington Lock is on the other side). The buzzing also only seems to be coming from the right side of the laptop above the number pad.

What is also strange is that i am able to stop the buzzing by tipping the laptop sideways or moving the screen. This seems to indicate that something might be vibrating, but again only when the power cord is unplugged?

Like i say, i don't think its enough to take the laptop back (unless somebody tells me differently), but i am concerned enough to ask on here if anyone with the same or similar laptop has any ideas as to why this might be happening.

Sony :: Noise- CW

Dec 7, 2009

Every minute or so, I'll hear what sounds somewhat like the loud tick of a clock coming more or less from the left side of my laptop. I can't tell if it's fan or hd related, but it's extremely annoying. It's definitely internal, and it's not coming out of the speakers (system volume is set to zero to eliminate feedback possibility). If I had to identify the sound source, it would seem to be coming from somewhere between the Tab and F8 keys. Weird, I know, but that's the best I can describe it.

Sony :: Z: Fan Noise

Sep 28, 2009

I just picked this baby up on Saturday and I'm about to return it as it has to be flawed.

2.8Ghz with the bluray drive. I've upgraded it from Vista64 to Win7 RTM.

Even at "silent mode" the fan is louder than my 17" MacBook Pro or my 15" Thinkpad W500.

That seems...wrong. It's blowing hot air out even when the machine is just sitting there doing absolutly nothing. It's sitting next to me on my desk next to the W500 (which is dead silent running discrete graphics). It's in STAMINA mode, running in SILENT, and still loud.

This will be a fun return as I am going to fight the 15% as the sales guy told me it was a quiet machine.
