Sony :: SZ3 40P And Win7 X 64 Fan Wont Stop

Or remove completely. Some of them don't even have descriptions, but bluetooth for instance I don't use, I could stop those three? Then that would leave only EIGHTY. There are so many processes running, almost all of them say 00- but I take it that doesn't mean they are not using the processor & more to my concern heating up my notebook?
Is there a list of processes somewhere I could safely stop on a vaio? For someone who is not up to the task of clean install (I read the sticky), I'm just wondering if there's anything else that could make a difference before I accept a restocking fee.
I have a sony vaio Z, its the vgn-z650n. I have it loaded with Windows 7 Ultimate.
I am having a strange issue with the wireless. I will have sudden speed decreases and/or the internet will stop all together.
The wireless connection is never actually dropped. When I have it hooked up with ethernet, it works perfectly fine with no issues
I have a tt series VGN-TT190 notebook and after installed windows 7 the auto dimmer, and the noise cancelling doesn't work. I called sony and they don't know how to fix it either- they told me to live with it.
View 10 Replies View Relatedif I can clean install Vista 32-bit or Win7 32-bit on current FW laptop, such as FW355 or FW378? FW comes pre-installed with Vista Home Premium 64-bit.
I want to buy FW, however I am using an application that runs only on 32-bit Windows. If I cannot run 32-bit Windows on FW it is kind of a deal breaker for me.
I just installed win7 64 bit for my laptop, my VaiO's using Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS 64mb RAM graphic card...
I followed the instruction of this thread Sony SZ750 Win7 64bit clean install (should help on other SZ's) .
everything went smoothly up to step 8 until i installed the graphic driver in speed mode...
before install, windows automatically get the driver for the card... but it's horrible (8 bit, no memory, and the res. is 800x600 .....
I just tried gaming with windows 7 x64 + Nvidia 9300M GS
so far, all games (Aion / Guildwars etc ) seems to have this issue of random FPS spikes
e.g. 40 fps --> 7fps --> 40fps --> 5fps .....
I own a Vaio Z690C with Vista Business 32bit. I really want to upgrade to Windows 7, and moreover use the new Bios and Nvidia driver update, however, this seems really complicated. Sony seemed to make things more complicated by only putting the nvidiadriver in the 64bit section, so I'm wondering, for 32bit owners who want to use Windows 7 32bit, is there a way to use the new updated nvidia driver in 32bit Windows 7 professional? Also, would it be worth it since I use 4GB of ram to just clean install to 64bit Windows 7, I'm only afraid of compatibility errors with random-less-official, programs, where as since I got 32bit, I haven't had a single problem since.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just received my upgrade for my VGN-Z21WN/B (my baby, love it!)... anyway, I did a bit of research before receiving it and everywhere I read suggested to do a fresh install - so thats' what I did. It actually all went okay, and it's happily running.
I visited vaio-link.com where I found some Win7 drivers, including:
- Bluetooth driver
- Realtek HD audio
- BIOS update for Win7
- Ethernet Driver
- Fingerprint suite
- Wireless LAN (Intel ProSet)
- WWAN
- nVidia graphics driver
All great , except now I am missing my FN keys. The FN keys for brightness, volume, switching display etc no longer work, and I cannot find a solution. One site I researched says to download the vista driver, but I cannot find that anywhere .. and then even people said that didn't work.
Secondly, although not a biggie, is there a VAIO Update driver?
I just tried to install wiindows 7 on my z540, I already installed all drivers downloaded for sony's website, but the function keys still are not working.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have the new Win7 disks from MSDN (pro and ultimate). Tried multiple times yesterday to upgrade my Z690 from Vista. Uninstalled all of the conflicting drivers/programs, it goes all the way through the install process, gets to the point where it copies over the old files, but then abruptly restarts and uses the Rollback program to get me into Vista again.
I tried 4 times, same result each time. Anyone have an idea if there's something I can do get this machine upgraded?
A clean install is not an option, too many programs I can't find the disks to...
I've recently successfully installed Win7 on my S170 and I'd like to share my experience with other S series owners. The how-to guide is posted on a different forum so I'll post a link to that. I hope it is helpful since Sony will not support this install even though the machine is fully capable. [url]
View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently I have upgraded to Win7Pro x64 EN on my Z90US, everything work like a charm except for the keyboard.
I got Japanese keyboard and even though I have installed the Japanese keyboard and IME in Win7, the layout doesn't match.
The Japanese specific keys don't work (e.g. kanji switch) and also the Shift+key is different. E.g. when I want to write &, than ^ comes out.
I have searched for a full solution to this but there seems to be none at the moment.
Anyway, i have a sort of quick half-solution that i can share if your battery is stuck at below 100% and can live without the battery care program.
Apparently the setting is saved in the battery memory, if you want to change the battery charge setting, stick it in another Vaio that has the battery care program working
for those running win 7 do you have the 'cpu control' option in vaio power management?
i used to have this feature when i was running xp but its no longer listed under win7, only 'cpu fan control
So after moving my Vaio FZ11SR to Win7 it can't find my camera.
Device manager got only Imaging Devices > USB Video Device which 'supposed' to be in-built Webcam i guess.
after moving to Win7 home premium (clean installation) i've downloaded and installed all drivers, utilities and updates for my series from sony site.
I'm on windows 7 rc1 and I'm having trouble disabling the CDrom drive.
I see the icon in the tray but when i right click and power it off, it just doesnt power off...
Is there a more direct way to turn it off?
Just tryina save a bit of battery
I running a z690 with win7, and my blu ray drive isn't visibile, don't have the correct driver for the Mata bd-mlt uj232as, and the z590 driver from sony's site won't install because its not a z5-series. Any advice? or anyone have the driver from there Vista64bit?
If anyone is curious, Windows7 is really smooth and quick compared to the Vista64bit, and only running 60 processes after everything got installed.
I have a Vaio VGN-CS16G/R and why is is that after installing Win7 RTM x64 and installing the necessary drivers, I DON'T see the "adjust brightness slider" on the power options? With my other laptops with the same OS, I can see that slider completely.
Also, I when I install Vaio Launcher which I got from the extracted Sony Notebook Utilities installer, it returns an error of:
" Error Number: 0x80040703
Description: Failed to find DLL function: SnyUtils.SuOpen
Setup will now terminate. "
Are there workarounds on this?
I just installed Win7, sticking as much as possible to this method:
VAIO FW Clean Windows 7 Install Guide
everything's working, all FN keys, volume multimedia zoom LCD out,
all but brightness.
problem is, using the FN keys, the brightness dialog is showing, but I can't increase or decrease it. brightness does not show up on power managment nor on mobilty center. the power plans from vaio ("VAIO optimized") are showing, but still if I pull the plug screen stays on maximum brightness...
Does anyone with VAIO Z and installed with win7 x64 notice the fingerprint driver have a little problem?

So I guess two questions wrapped into 1:
1. If I clean install Win7 on this Z, what isn't going to work right off the bat and what steps can I take to get it fully functional? I saw a nice guide for the TZ, but not for the Z.
2. Has anyone attempted a straight upgrade to Win7?
for now it looks like Sony will not offer any possibility of Windows upgrade for machines bought before January 2009. So the only possibility will be to buy new OS from MS and install drivers by myself.
Right now, I have original Japanese Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit shipped with the nb and I'm thinking to upgrade to Win7 Ultimate 64-bit. Is it possible for me to buy just Win7 Ultimate Upgrade for $219.99 from MS Store? Is it possible to make clean install with that?
And what's the difference between OEM and regular version? I have possibility to buy OEM version for much less...but I thought OEM versions are just shipped with new computers.
issue was with Nvidia's powermizer feature downclocking causing a latency spike, which caused the audio to studder. I disabled Powermizer using these instructions:
Disable PowerMizer **Tested**
or you can use a simple tool that applies those registry settings found here:
Powermizer Switch - get the most out of your video card
Details on my last post.

Hi, last week I clean installed Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my Vaio vgn-FZ290. It seems like everything is working fine with my laptop using a combination of drivers from Windows Update, as well as a few official Vista Drivers. There is one issue though. With Windows 7 and only 7 whenever I play music, watch a dvd, watch youtube, etc the sound seems to "hiccup" every 10-20 seconds. By which i mean the sound would be playing normally, then a split second "click" or "pop" in the audio. If I were to rewind and play the same portion where the pop happened, it wouldn't be there anymore, and the clicks would happen somewhere else. This happens in all audio programs (WMP, itunes) as well as you tube and even I heard it click during the windows logon sound..............
I have a fresh copy of win 7 ultimate (legit of course.. got it from a microsoft event).
I have seen a few threads about clean installing vaios (boy do they put a bit of crapware there...) but not sure whats best to do..
I dont think I need/want any of the free apps (are there any good ones?) so I reckon I am going to blast the harddrive (I imaged the whole lot with another backup prog)
Whats the best strategy for this? i.e. whats best for getting drivers etc?
I noticed some files in c:windowsdrivers (an exe and a inf diretory, not sure which is for which) should that contain all I need?
Will I have issues with sony system stuff?
Also what about registering it? I guess there will be no issue as far as warranty is concerned (as said, it is a proper legit win 7)
to turn your Vaio Notebook into an Wlan Accesspoint. This is a Feature from Windows7, not from Sony itself.
You need:
- Windows 7
- newest Intel Wlan Drivers
- Some Information i will put in this posting
This will work with many other Wlan Hardware, you mostly have to Upgrade your Wlan Driver, and have a look that he will support this feature.
1.) Download the Driver:
IntelŽ WiFi Link 5300 and IntelŽ WiFi Link 5100 productsIntelŽ PRO/Wireless and WiFi Link Drivers-Only for Windows 7*
2.) Install the Driver
3.) Setup your Accesspoint:
Start -- Run --- cmd.................
I've installed win7(32-bit) on my FZ21S and all seems to be working smoothly. A couple of issues have popped up though.
1. SFEP driver- I've downloaded the latest win7 version from the FTP, and also have a back-up, and cannot for the life of me figure out how to install it. I went to the device manager, (as some1 reccomended) under Human Interface Devices- and it isnt present.
I've also managed to get the recovery disks running half way- by this I mean- Im able to get inside the application and select SFEP to be installed. It begins, and then prompts me to put disk2 in...that is where it hangs, and eventually crashes.
2. Ive got the volume controls (round controller near AV mode) working, as well as the FnMute button.
However, I cant seem to get the Fn keys for brightness working.
3. And finnally, the AV mode and S1 buttons are non-functional.
I have just installed win7 64bit on my FZ290. Everything worked perfectly except i could not find the driver for touchpad. I ve read all different posts in this forum, found many helpful info for installing win7, but i just cant find the way to get this touchpad working like before, i mean the scroll bar on the top and right side of the touchpad which allow me to scroll the page, going back a page without click a key
View 4 Replies View RelatedHave looked at hours worth of posts regarding the camera, win7, etc. Does anybody have a direct link to the proper camera driver for a z690 running windows 7 x64? Also, if you have a link for 32 bit that would help with the 'ole
lady's laptop too.
Anybody else install an Intel SSD into their Z? Just installed a G2 160gb drive a few days ago and holy s. it flys, but I do have some concerns about *low (200-205MBPS Max Seq Read) benchmark scores in HD Tune. We should start a seperate thread on the Z and aftermarket SSD drives.
I noticed that in a quiet room, with the laptop about a foot from me, I hear a slight "click" noise right when the fan starts up and spins down. Doesn't bother me, but thought it was interesting to note. I sounds like a normal fan when operating and the sound is very faint. I was wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
