Dell releases firmware update to fix "clicking noise" on Seagate hard drives
I've bought E6400 equipped with Seagate hard drive 250GB 7200rpm, model ST9250410ASG (free fall sensor). Unfortunetly this hdd has a "clicking noise" problem.
I've seen new firmware update on dell's support page, but it's not for this model. Is there any way to get rid of clicking?

Somebody tried this yet? I've this clicking noise too. I've called xps support 3 times already. They said they will inform me if a fix is out, but I haven't heard anything yet.
I thought maybe someone had the same problem. And have tried this fix already. Them I want to ask: does it fix the annoying clicking noise?
Hey everyone, anyway to get rid of the clicking noise on the Toshiba MK2051GSY, 7200 RPM hard drive? I did a search and i couldn't find anything ....
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed new Seagate firmware DE 17 for HDD with 7200.3 RPM and WEI drop down from 5,9 to 5.8
But HD tune reports still the same tests results.
Do u think that this firmware could cause performance digression.
I tried installing the R206231 Firmware update from Dell for the Seagate drives listed on the support site and it would not complete. I get an error. I noticed that my firmware is DEA2. Is this a newer firmware than the fix is trying to update to? I noticed that the software is trying to upgrade to DE16.
I own a ST9250421ASG in a E6400.
So I detailed my experience with the hard drive clicking in my blog post here, and I recorded a video to demonstrate the sounds here. Has anyone else experienced hard drive clicking in their
Dell Studios? This isn't so loud that it's clearly a sign of HD failure, but it's not so quiet that I feel that I can blow it off and not worry about it.
Brand new G50-70: When using OSÂ from the SSDÂ or using OS from the SSD and doing things with a USB-drive, the empty internal DVD-drive making clicking sound and sometimes freezing SSD read/write operation for about 30 seconds but all the time freezing USB-storage read/write operation for about 30 seconds.
Â
When freezing there's always clicking. But when clicking there's not always freezing except when using USB-storage.
Â
OS is Win81-64.
Â
An example scenario: connect USB stick, open terminal, type diskpart, dvd-drive clicks and freezes opening of diskpart for about 30 seconds, then the same may or may not happen when entering commands like clear the stick and format the stick.
I noticed that there is a clicking noise from the transformer of my new laptop (XPS 17). Around the internet i found that it could be a damaged transformer... but there is another strange issue: the clicking occours ONLY when running from windows 64bit, no clicking on Ubuntu 64bit...
So.... 3 questions:
1) do you think it's damaged?
2) do you think it can harm the laptop if used WITHOUT battery mounted?
3) do you think it can harm the laptop if used WITH battery mounted?
I've had a Vostro 1510 laptop since February 2009, when I turn it on it makes clicking noises then it will eventually quit but today while reading a lengthly article online.
My clock's second hand will move 5 seconds then click, 5 more seconds then click and so on and so on but today the laptop was making a similar sound .....
My computer has started doing a clicking noise. It isn't all the time but comes and goes and if very loud.
I have it sitting on a fan to keep it from overheating but that isn't helping the clicking noise which seems to get worse while surfing the net or things that require it to work harder
I just recently purchased a Dell Studio XPS 16 Laptop a bit over a month ago and have been experiencing a non-stop clicking noise while torrenting files.
It happens out of no where, usually around 30% into a download or more, possibly less. Around this point it will start to click continuously, and it appears I am not able to open task manager, although I am still able to talk on AIM, along with listening to a song currently open with no interruption.
I have also noticed that when I go to the Start Menu to try and restart or shut down that neither will work. This has resulted in me having to do a force shut down to stop the noise, and a reboot to run Vista normally again.
So i bought a Seagate 250gig hard drive for my d600 and i cant seem to make it work.
It reads after the dell symbol comes up and then it says that there is no primary drives found and no bootable devices found.
And when i try to run the diagnostic it says the same thing. What am i doing wrong?
I bought the hard drive from Office Depot and the guy didnt tell me about any drivers that i needed to buy or anything.
I have a 160GB 7200RPM with Free Fall Sensor harddrive and the unstoppable clicking of my Seagate hard drive is driving me nuts. so I have three choices:
I have my 160GB Hitachi 7200 RPM Hardderive from my old system that i can strip off before is end back to dell. This hd does not have free fall sensor.
They are sending me a Fujitsu 160GB 7200 RPM one that has FFS.
I'm sicking of having to set hdparm to 254 every time i resume from sleep. It's annoying as heck.
I also don't want to hear my damn drive clicking all the time. I've done some digging and apparently WD has released a firmware update for this drive to fix the issue.
However, I cannot find this anywhere. Does anybody know where I can get a hold of it?
I have an E4200 with the standard SSD. CrystalDiskInfo shows it as a Samsung SSD Thin uSATA 64GB M running firmware VAM05D1Q.
Seeing that Windows 7 has been out for a little while now and TRIM support is showing up on more and more SSDs, I was looking for a firmware update for my SSD. Anyone seen one?
I bought this new dell XPS 14Z a month back. the optical drive started making "Clicking" noise (sound similar to the one when you click the eject button) . This mainly  occurs during booting ,  while opening itunes or while my sync up is running.Â
I spoke with the dell tech support and they did replace the optical drive. it didn't fix the issue. I checked in one my friends laptop and could see that it is not occurring .Â
I have a Inspirion N5050 laptop. A few weeks ago, it started running slow and Adchoices ads appeared. I removed them. I ran a scan using AVG, which detected nothing. I shut down the laptop as a precaution. Now it will not load Windows. I press the power button, the dell logo appears, then I hear what I think is the hard drive click, then the screen goes dark for a second, then the logo and a click and so on and so on. I am able to get to the menus with f2 and f12, what to do next. Safe mode will not respond ( I cannot get into it).
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I am trying to update the firmware on the DVD drive that came with my e1705, the Philips SDVD8820 (Terrible drive I might add) but the new update (AD20) will NOT let me update it.
Anyone I try to run the executable it tells me.
FwFlash
You don't have administrator right to process.
or NO device is recognized.
I then tried to go to Run as... then chose the following user (selected myself again, w/ password this time) and I got the same error.
Once it loads up, it says
FwFlash3M v5.8
Update F/W to AD20
Can't recognize device!
Did some Google searches on the problem and came across this registry edit that seemed to solve the problem for a couple other people .....
I just got a new Acer laptop (5720-302G08Mi). The laptop is sometimes making a light clicking noise. This could be the harddisk, but not sure. Is this normal for this model?
Anyone experienced this before on this model?
I just checked software update. Apparently it'll eliminate the startup noise that you hear from the DVD drive.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased the Dell XPS 14 ultrabook and it is probably just about two months old now. Everything was so perfect until just yesterday the laptop started to make a quiet fast-paced clicking noise inside it. I don't know where it is coming from but all I know is that the noise is definitely inside the laptop. It starts usually about 2-3 minutes after turning the laptop on and then lasts for about 1-3 minutes. Is this normal? And is there a way to stop this noise? I know its just something little but I just think it's not normal to have this problem for such a new laptop.

i have a Sony aw290 laptop and i have install anew clean windows but when i try to update any firmware update its give error is there is away to do that with out
reinstalling the original operation system ?
So i recently upgraded my Aspire 5560g to Windows 8.1. I liked it but it seemed to have lost my drivers in the process (my track pad scrolling didnt work and my Dolby audio origram was gone).
Â
I went to  for the drivers and decided to start with a firmware upgrade (9545 for hard disk performance).Â
Â
After the computer rebooted, I entered the dreaded Windows 8.1 boot loop. It would say "Your PC ran into problems..." with the bluescreen, then turn off. Then it would attempt the Automatic repair, and fail again, then restart the cycle.
Â
I wasn't able to even get into my BIOS until I cleared my CMOS, now at least I can get into BIOS.
Â
I created a bootable USB for Windows in hopes I could do a clean install, but even when trying to boot from a USB I get the blue Windows 8 screen, "Your PC ran into problems..."Is there a way I can undo the firmware update, it seems like the culprit, doesn't it?Â
Â
EDIT: I've read that the Windows boot loop may be caused by outdated drivers. Think this could be the problem after I did the firmware update? How can I install the drivers without being able to boot into Windows?
