I just checked software update. Apparently it'll eliminate the startup noise that you hear from the DVD drive.

I have an E4200 with the standard SSD. CrystalDiskInfo shows it as a Samsung SSD Thin uSATA 64GB M running firmware VAM05D1Q.
Seeing that Windows 7 has been out for a little while now and TRIM support is showing up on more and more SSDs, I was looking for a firmware update for my SSD. Anyone seen one?

So I am trying to update the firmware on the DVD drive that came with my e1705, the Philips SDVD8820 (Terrible drive I might add) but the new update (AD20) will NOT let me update it.
Anyone I try to run the executable it tells me.
FwFlash
You don't have administrator right to process.
or NO device is recognized.
I then tried to go to Run as... then chose the following user (selected myself again, w/ password this time) and I got the same error.
Once it loads up, it says
FwFlash3M v5.8
Update F/W to AD20
Can't recognize device!
Did some Google searches on the problem and came across this registry edit that seemed to solve the problem for a couple other people .....

So i recently upgraded my Aspire 5560g to Windows 8.1. I liked it but it seemed to have lost my drivers in the process (my track pad scrolling didnt work and my Dolby audio origram was gone).
Â
I went to  for the drivers and decided to start with a firmware upgrade (9545 for hard disk performance).Â
Â
After the computer rebooted, I entered the dreaded Windows 8.1 boot loop. It would say "Your PC ran into problems..." with the bluescreen, then turn off. Then it would attempt the Automatic repair, and fail again, then restart the cycle.
Â
I wasn't able to even get into my BIOS until I cleared my CMOS, now at least I can get into BIOS.
Â
I created a bootable USB for Windows in hopes I could do a clean install, but even when trying to boot from a USB I get the blue Windows 8 screen, "Your PC ran into problems..."Is there a way I can undo the firmware update, it seems like the culprit, doesn't it?Â
Â
EDIT: I've read that the Windows boot loop may be caused by outdated drivers. Think this could be the problem after I did the firmware update? How can I install the drivers without being able to boot into Windows?

Since updating the firmware on my LG drive (GSA-T50L) on every restart I get a message that Windows (Vista Home Basic) cannot install the driver. I click the second option, which is to "remind me later." I have to do this every time I boot up. The CD ROM is actually working OK as far as I can tell, but I'm still getting the error message. Device Manager doesn't list any driver, and trying to update it through device manager is unsuccessful.
I'm using firmware rev. SC05. I wondered if downgrading back to SC04 would cure the problem, but after hundreds of searches I cannot find the firmware anywhere on the Internet. Why it's so rare, I have no idea.
Maybe the problem has been caused by myself -- I deleted the drivers folder from the recovery partition some time ago to gain a couple of GB of drive space. However, I was under the impression that the CDROM uses Windows' own driver, so maybe this isn't the problem? I'm absolutely stumped. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this issue?
FWIW, I have recovery discs, only I'm unsure about using them because I don't want to wipe the entire system and start from scratch. If it's possible to restore only the missing drivers folder from the recovery partition this might be a good start.

Applied 7CCN35WW over the 34 firmware. Veriface stopped working, says there's no camera present even though camera is present in Device manager. Skype is not working either, says camera is used by another process even after a fresh restart.

I purchased a Sony VAIO VGN-Z46GD and was eligible for the Windows 7 Upgrade program. So my Windows 7 Disc & Supplement Disc arrived in no time. I did a CLEAN install with the Windows 7 Disc wiping everything (this was intentional).
The problem is the Supplement Disc will not run at all, gives me an error (is there a way to force it?). I used the mod2wim tool to extract all WIM's from it however I have had no success in getting my VAIO special buttons working, power management or my function keys operational. The extracted WIM's are also a bit odd, includes ATi drivers when clearly my machine is hybrid intel/nvidia.
From what I have read on the Forums I need to install things in a specific order. Also if I can't find my drivers where can I look to re-download them?

I have a VGN-790P notebook, currently with Windows Vista Business installed; 2GB RAM; 2.16 GHz centrino duo. However, through my school I can download Windows 7 for free!
I really want to upgrade my OS to Windows 7, but Sony is not providing drivers for my model. Is there any way that I can still install it and get the drivers from somewhere? I really dont want to do it if it's going to cause a bunch of functionality issues.
Also, I think that a clean install would be best, just to clear out my computer and possibly make it a bit more responsive. Is it possible to do this if I will be downloading Windows 7 and not have a physical disk for the install?

I see and understand the requirements to load the Sony 'platform' drivers to get the various custom hardware working.
but what about reinstalling the original applications? Particularly some of the custom VAIO apps .....

May 27 2010 - Added Nvidia 257.15 driver, modded inf, and instructions.
The following steps below include various driver sources and install instructions.
1. Install your edition of Windows 7. I chose to change the UAC setting to never notify. If you leave it in the default setting, various prompts may open when installing the drivers and utilities. Open "Computer", click the "Organize" tab, navigate to "folder and search options", click "View" tab, and uncheck "Hide empty drives in the computer folder".
There will be two exclamation marks for the "Mass storage controller" and "Unknown device" in the device manager. Intel 4965 Wifi, Marvell network controller, and Conexant modem drivers are included in Windows 7. You can update them if necessary

I have been trying to make a clean install of Windows 7 but when I get to the install screen,
it says that "it does not recognize my drive." This happened too when I tried to install windows XP,
and I solved it by slipstreaming the SATA controller drivers but, I don't know where to find those for windows 7, or if that even will solve the same problem

However, when I go on the US Sony website, they say some drivers are not compatible with Ultimate version. I downloaded every drive with Win Professional setting. Will it not work with Windows 7 Ultimate

I was searching for a Thread that has some data about clean instructions and restoring all functions for the VAIO E-Series, but I didn't find one.
And since there is a lot of users here who own the VAIO E-Series, I think it might be useful.
So, can anyone share his experience with a clean install on the VAIO E-Series and how did you do that?
Some special order in installing drivers? What's about the FN-Buttons? Whats about the Assist and WEB Buttons? Are they all working?

Several years ago, I bought a HP G71-340US notebook with Windows7 (it was a refurbished model directly from HP). I have used it for mant years without real problems until last week. I am now getting on the bottom right side of my screen "Windows 7 build 7600 .This copy of window`s is not genuine" message . This is the same version that I bought from HP, though I have periodically updated Windows7 with Microsoft's updates. I called Microsoft and they told me that I either needed to purchase the software again or give them my access code from the discs, which I didn't receive from HP. What can I do to either get it to work or fine the Windows7 installation code?

Just a quick guide on how to make a bootable DVD using your Sony Upgrade Discs so you can do a clean install.
1) Insert your upgrade DVD into your DVD Drive and load up "Windows Explorer"
2) Browse to your DVD rom drive and expand it, there should be a bunch of directories, and you should have 2 that are called "Win7OS32" and "Win7OS64".....
