View 8 RepliesI just noticed that if you go to Acer support page you will find that in some laptops there will be Acer official drivers for Windows 7. So if you have windows 7 and you need some drivers for your hardware to work ok, you might be lucky and find the right drivers there. There are some Acer's applications there as well.
Just choose your laptop and then in the Operating system drop down menu check if there is a Windows 7 option and pick the Windows 7 version you have, 32-bit or 64-bit. They are not all there that you might need but I guess in a couple of weeks more and more drivers are going to be uploaded on the site and more laptops are going to be supported.
Acer finally released Windows 7 compatible drivers for both x64 - x86 versions for Aspire 5738 and probably others... (AS 7540 ; AS 7736; AS 5736; AS 4810T; AS3810T; including all the variants of those models have Windows 7 drivers in the download page ; Travelmate from 8331 to 8571 offers Windows x86 and x64 drivers as well..)
To download them, go to [url] , select Aspire 5738 model or any other model mentioned previously, select OS "Windows 7 Ultimatex64" (In Travelmate driver downloads you can choose between x64 and x86 ).
Every driver there has inside the x86 driver included
NOTE: Even the ones that doesnt have an "x86" or 32bit folder they also work!
Tested on my Aspire 5738.
Everything works perfectly also de LAUNCH MANAGER!
LASTEST LAUNCHMANAGER: V3.0.04

I created this thread with the intention of grouping all who have, or in the process, or are planning to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 for the XPS M1330.
Personally I'm currently on Vista Ultimate x86 (because it's a Product Red) and I'm entitled to a free Windows 7 Professional x64 license from my school. I've read that it's not possible to upgrade directly from higher-to-lower (in terms of level of OS).
Like for mine I'd only be able to upgrade directly if I had a Windows 7 Ultimate license.
Hence for my case, I would like to seek the advice from the helpful fellas here on my upgrade (sequence) options.
Currently I have 2 partitions, as per default. C drive as OS and main partition of 285GB and D drive as RECOVERY of 9.99GB.
Questions:
1) If I were to install Windows 7 on a newly created partition, ie. F drive (as my DVDRW is on E drive now), would I be able to format my C drive (after backing up data from it) and turn it into a storage drive?
2) If 1) is possible, should I partition F drive to 20-25GB as the norm capacity for Windows 7 OS installation, or should I allocate more space? (I'm asking this because I've never done an OS-only partition + Data-only partition in any computer I own because I don't see the usefulness of it LAST TIME.
3) If I had an OS partition in F drive, 20-25GB, and the Data partition on C drive (after formatting Vista), would I be able to swap these 2 drive letters so C drive becomes my Windows 7 OS Drive and F drive becomes my Data drive?
4) If that's the case, would I still be needing D drive (RECOVERY), or can I format->delete it?
5) Having 20-25GB in C drive, assuming I've swapped F drive with C drive, where would I be installing my applications? Do I need to install applications into the OS drive or can I install it in the Data drive? Because if it were the case that applications NEED to be installed into the OS drive, I'd need to allocate a little more space in now-C drive, right?
It is available now in the US support website:

I am downloading it and I will report if it works.....
Does anyone know if Dell modifies the video card drivers that they post on the driver download website specifically for their machines?
Or do they just download the latest drivers from the Nvidia webiste test on a particular machine for a little while and either pass or fail the driver for official use?
Did anybody manage to get the latest official Catalyst package from the ATI website installed on their machine? When I tried it wouldn't want to install the drivers, only the utilities.
I had to use the one supplied by Dell, which is fine, but I was wondering if there were a way to use the official ones.
x32 version here http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce...5.81_beta.html
x64 version here http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce...5.81_beta.html
There also new drivers available for Windows 7 (x32/x64)
If there a way to install official Intel video drivers on an HP DV5-1000us? A friends friend has one and I tried extracting the files from the .exe then updating the drivers thru the device manager but it won't take the drivers prob due to a hardware id # hp had changed to prevent people from installing all but thier own "optimized" ( my ) drivers.
And this DV5 is the one with the GMA X4500 video adapter in case anyones wondering.
I've heard you can't, but don't actually see anything excluding that integrated 9400 on Nvidia's page.
Anyone know? (Or if you can't, can you force install the regular or notebook drivers through device manager as you can on Nvidia hardware under XP?)
The new Z series with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit is now on sale in Australia at about the same price as its Vista predecessor.
I had hoped that the new Z night have had a faster CPU or some other improvement over the previous model but, apart from the new OS,
it has the same specs as the previous version, with with the same P9700 (2.80 GHz) CPU, 6 GB DDR3 SDRAM (upgradeable up to 8 GB) and NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS with 256 MB SDRAM.

I think starting now, there will be a flurry of driver updates, behaviors, tips, questions, etc.,
and it seems it would benefit everyone to have all those in one place instead of having to search through a myriad of individual posts

Where can I find the Windows 7 drivers for SZ series. Its a pity that sony just says that the hardware is not compatible. They just suck at the support which they should be providing and now us guys.
who have tried the RC and can gain from that experience to install the full upgrade.
I am wondering what will be with drivers when Windows 7 will be available. Now when I go to Sony website and try download drivers and utilities factory installed with my Vaio TT21 XN/B it is not available. Only one way of reinstallation is recovery partition (or DVD's) or semi clean install. But question is how to install Windows 7 when it will be available without drivers? When Microsoft will lunch W7 I am going to upgrade but how I will can do that?

I can not decipher Sony's support site. I have looked for windows 7 32 bit drivers but can't find them for my model, a Z590. I can't find them for any model. Are they hiding these for some reason? Why can't they be normal and just put up the drivers in a coherent fashion?

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs it me, or do these massive Official VAIO blah Series Owners Threads not work to well?
They're tooo big and very dificult to find things buried in them.
I think forums work better when you have a specific problem and start a new thread on that... then people respond to help in that thread... And the conversation is so much less likely to go off on a tangent...
I.e. use these forums how they are normally used... One thread per subject. Most people are pretty good a adding the model in the subject if it's needed. This should make it a whole lot easier to browse thru and find stuff that it is right now...
