I am formatting my friends hard drive and loading Windows. He wants only the basic drivers for teh notebook and none of the other Acer crap that pre installed. Can anyone tell me what these basic drivers are? Also I need to know if there is a correct order to install them in. I'm very familiar with Dell's and there is a specific order for them, but this is the first Acer I've done.
Well after playing with this 4720 model for a week with vista, I have come to the conclusion that I really hate vista. Has any 4720 owners have success installing xp on this machine?
why our TravelMate is overheating. Currently it is a year old and this has just started to occur.
Primarily this happens when it is plugged in. My initial reaction tells me that it is the battery causing this problem. But im not sure. Also, the fan runs often while it is plugged in too.
I want to upgrade the hard drive in my Acer 4720 But i am confused with the hard drive types, the hard drives in my Acer4720 and D620 look different to the hard drive in my older C300 ... the Acer c300 has like pins where the hard drive connects to the computer whereas the ones on the dell and the 4720 look totaly different.
what is this "Different" drive called so that I can order the correct one?
I bought an Acer Aspire 4720, installed Windows XP and Linux Ubuntu. On XP, I can see the webcam working as a USB device, but I don't have any software to make it "do" something other than showing my ugly face.
I need to record, shoot some still images, and being able to video chatting (i.e. msn messenger).
What software can I use? Do I need something else (driver)?
The webcam is working, but has no software to handle it.
I bought a acer aspire 4720 couple of months bank. the machine was going great only till a day back. yesterday i started facing strange problems. as soon as i plugged in the charger cord ( while the machine was running), the display used to go dark... well i then used my laptop without the charger cord plugged in. After an hour or so, the display went completely dark....as in the display lights just went off.. u can still see the stuff on screen if u hold the laptop under some light source...but the lcd back lights are not glowing......i put in hard earned money in buying that laptop....
My Acer Aspire 4720 has an annoying CPU fan "on/off/on/off" behaviour that is impossible to control via software, so I wired it up with a resistor internally, soldering to a USB +5V header. The fan itself works great, but ...
The USB power (and thus the fan) stays on when I put the laptop into "sleep" mode. In Hibernation, it turns off as normal.
How can I make the USB power turn off when in normal "sleep" mode?
i have done this several times before on diffrent computer, but this dell desktop is not doing what it suppose to do.
I put the Win xp pro in the cd rom and restarted the computer after I change the boot to boot from CD, and computer go to tart windows. i chnagedeverything and reset to defult and also diconnected the hard drive. nothing works. on F8 i also selected CD rom , and didn't work. this is a 3 years old computer that getting very slow and has too much junk on it from the kids and I want to format it. any ideas how i can go around this.

I am using HP pavilllion Dv2000 and since my system was slow i reloaded the os from D Partition of the the notebook, now the problem is that when i am using the MSoffice it is saying that it is not installed and saying you have to run the setup. i checked the program files and there the MSoffice is there, what could be the reason?
I"ve got an 8 year old Inspiron 6000 laptop. It's old, but it seems like it's still in pretty good shape. Except that just recently, it lost its mind and doesn't recognize that it has a wifi adapter. I'd like to reload the OS, but I think this laptop came without OS and driver CDs. I think the idea back then was that you would go to the website and download that stuff if you ever needed it. I have the Service Tag number, but when I use that, I don't get any options. Warranty expired and all. How I can reload the OS on this machine?
I was under Windows Seven when i got some virus problems. i format my whole HDD and start to have some problems. sometimes the computer randomly stops. Often when i'm copying files or defrag the disk. there, my laptop seems very hot. it shutdown when I play (whatever the game played the temperature are (according to SpeedFan) about 100°C))
I firstly think about dust. so i have clean by removing the trap at the bottom and cleaning the ventilation holes.
That change nothing. my computers stops 10 minutes after the game's started. but it boot right now after it stops, (i've head that in case of a too ward hardware the computer will not boot right now after it stops) metimes after a program ask a reboot and i say yes , the fan don't work at all after the reboot.
here we go......formated my laptop and removed XP, had vista on it at new but wiped it when i got it.
So i wiped it last night and reinstalled XP again, thought i had all the drivers but my device manager is showing Video Controller and Network Controller are not installed correctly.
Would the Network controller stop my wireless working because thats my main problem getting my wireless set up. I even tried resorting back to Vista with the alt-F10 buttons but all its doing is bleaping.
Can i get it back to Vista, my daughter says she wants it and where exactly do i get the drivers i mentioned i'm missing.
Once windows xp is installed do i go to control panel and set up wireless ? if i remember i'm sure it all went on automatic the 1st time i wiped it.
how do i format, cleaning my hardrive, and what will be removed, and do i need to do anything? If i format did i need t backup windows to a disk or can i format without backing anything up to disk, in otherwords everything to format is on my Laptop(Aspire 6920g)? I dont need to save files, just my saved games
I have an Acer Ferrari 3000Lmi notebook. I just replaced the hdd with a new one. it's 80GB 5400 rpm, IDE It's not formatted and it's not partitioned. My notebook is an old model, so I don't think there's a recovery partition and it doesn't have an e-empowering acer button, etc. It only comes with Acer recovery CD's.
when I put the new hdd in, it's detected in bios, so I installed Win XP Home using the Acer Recovery CD. and it didn't have option to format or to partition my hdd there. everything just ran automatically. and now I have one C: drive.
Can anyone help me on how to partition my hdd ? I prefer not to use partition magic/other programs to partition my hdd. I don't know if I have DOS. I don't mind installing XP all over again, I just don't know how to format/partition the hdd before using the recovery CD.
I have had to fdisk my laptop because of various viruses it had and a keylogger. i want to put a copy of Xp on the machine but when i try it says it cant find any hard drives, it originally had vista home on it but i got no disks with it so i can't reinstall that either? The message i get when trying to install Xp is: "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer. Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
my note book is acer aspire 4920 and my Problem is i have make format for my computer and now i press alt+f10 to rostore system to factory settings but it dosent work so any one please who have acer recovery discs system , please upload these discs and give it to me please because in these discs i can repair/restore my pc to factory settings
My wifes Extensa 5620 got a virus. Office Depot removed it with MalBytes. I'm still leary of something being missed. I would really like to restore it to factory defaults.
When I go into Acer eRecovery Management I see pick the Restore tab at the bottom of the window.
Now I am given the choices to
1.Restore system factory default.
2.(Which is grayed out and option not avaialable) Restore form users backup
3.Recover from CD/DVD
4.Reinstall applaications/drivers.
So I pick 1. Restore system factory default.
Next I am asked for the empowering technology password. Well I don't have it and don't know how to get it. I would choose number 2. if it were an option. If I place the disk I made into the CD/DVD unit will the option become available? I tried option 3. and it said to place the restore disk inthe drive.
I recently had some trouble with my Acer Aspire 5920 notebook. A virus got through to it (luckily without any major damage).
I sent the notebook repairs and I already got it back and working...almost...completely as new.
I wanted to format the notebook and reinstall the necessary programs. This way I can get rid of all the stuff I don't need/want.
The problem is that eRecovery from the eEmpowerment tools needs a password to start the formatting. Normally if you don't fill in a password in the first place then there's no password needed when you want to format the system.
In my case, the notebook asks for the password anyway so my question is this:
How can I format my notebook (using eRecovery or another application) without the password?
I am trying to fix my dads notebook, its been running very slow lately and I want to format and reinstall Vista for him, however has most of you may know, it's really hard to find notebook drivers (well in my case it is), so does anyone know where I can find drivers for me dads 5634WLMi?
I have tryed Acer's website but they are either for 5630 or 5680/90, or can I use the 5630 drivers on this?
I have 3 thinkpads that after a fresh reload are unable to connect to wireless networks. I have gone through and installed the different wireless drivers on the lenovo support website.I have gone through several steps of similar problems others have had but it hasn't made a difference. Â I have installed: Â -HotKeys & patch -Power manager & driver -Chipset
The realtek network -ethernet adapter and communications LAN driver.I have installed and removed each wireless adapter available  Thinkpad Edge 15 Type: 0319-46U  On a side note in the Device manager screen there is a "Network Controller" alert saying no driver installed for this device. I have determined it is some Realtek device but beyond that I am lost.
I Have an acer aspire 5100 but when to format hard drive and do full recovery but nothing went on the disc does any one have a copy of the recovery disc to help me out amd turion 64 mobile 1gb ram 80g hard drive
In an Extensa 5420 the hard drive was formatted as EISA instead of NTFS. Is there a way to change it to NTFS without destroying what is on the drive? It is running okay, is there a disadvantage leaving it as EISA?
ok i'm at work right now and was going to remove vista from my 6920 aspire to put on xp because i have vista. Thinking i wouldn't have a problem i simply used the Kill Disk program to format my drives. I put in my xp cd and it will not load because it says HDD not detected, I don't have a cd burner on my work computer but i do have a 4 Gb flash drive is there anything i can do to get it to load up windows xp, Been reading that there is something with XP not allowing install due to the laptop having SATA setup and xp won't work with that? Can anyone please help me. Hoping there is something i can do to maybe load the drivers from my flash drive then install the xp cd.
I have an HP probook 4720s (Product #: WT238EA#ACQ). I have upgraded my RAM to 6GB.My problem. The other day I was busy playing a game when the computer froze and then turned off while it was turning off a small blue screen briefly appeared. I restarted the laptop and everything seemed fine, I left the computer for a few minutes and when I came back the screen was completely off but the computer was operating as normal. No key press or anything would put the screen back on.Everytime after this event that I tried to put the laptop on it would start(HHD spin, CPU fan work, HDD light would blink for a bit then stop but the screen would stay completely black with no blue backlight).
I tried hard reset and a number of other things like checking if the RAM was connected properly and still the screen remained off.I decided to connect the laptop to an external monitor and I finally could display on the monitor but it still would not display on the laptop screen. After the windows emblem loaded the dreaded blue screen of death would appear with a STOP error 0x00000116 which after some looking up appears to be the graphics driver.
After safe starting the system and rolling back the graphics driver to standard VGA adapter the windows 7 system was then able to start in normal mode. I've tried reinstalling the HD 5470 graphics driver but the blue screen of death continues to appear. I have completely reloaded the OS to no avail.I disconnected the laptops screen from the motherboard without the graphics driver loaded, which didn't cause a beep but displayed on the external monitor when I connected it. I tried the same with the graphic driver loaded, still no beeps were heard and when I connected the external monitor the blue screen appeared. From the tests I had tried, I believe that there must be an issue with the graphics card itself as the Blue screen of death only displays when the graphics card driver is loaded.
A few days ago i bought an Acer 7730 laptop with Windows Vista pre-installed and no disks. After initial hesitation i have decided to keep vista and not downgrade to XP. After all there will be more service packs and tweaking should speed it up lots anyway.
However, i really want to get rid of the three partitions on the hard drive. There is only one physical hard drive but there are three partitions; a hidden 10GB one (EISA configuration) which from what i have gathered is now obsolete, a C: partition 111.44GB and a D: partition 111.44GB. There is no need to split a drive into several partitions now that we have the NTFS file system (unless you are using multiple operating systems of course - but i am not) so this is really annoying me.
I have made the 2 recovery DVD and the 1 applications/drivers DVD. I have an old WinXP disk that i can use to format the laptop if required.
Question:
Using the recovery disks (which i'm assuming contain a copy of my bought OEM Vista that was pre-installed on the laptop), can i delete the partitions, format the hard drive and install Vista onto a single c: partition?
I've done this exact process before with WinXP hundreds of times but i'm not sure whether i can do the same for Vista with just the 3 DVD mentioned...
When I click on the DVD-RAM drive (E, there is no "Format" option available (missing).
That means that when inserting a blank DVD or CD media in the drive, I cannot format using the operating system format option; however, I can burn DVDs under other (3rd party) media editing programs.
How can I add the "Format" onto the list of other available options such as Eject etc.
By the way, the Operating System is Windows XP 64 bit (with all the latest updates) installed on a Ferrari 4000.
The DVD Drive make is MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-845S with the FD-200 firmware installed.
