Dec 2, 2007Well after playing with this 4720 model for a week with vista, I have come to the conclusion that I really hate vista. Has any 4720 owners have success installing xp on this machine?

Acer :: TravelMate 4720 Overheating
Jan 9, 2010why our TravelMate is overheating. Currently it is a year old and this has just started to occur.
Primarily this happens when it is plugged in. My initial reaction tells me that it is the battery causing this problem. But im not sure. Also, the fan runs often while it is plugged in too.

Aug 27, 2008I am formatting my friends hard drive and loading Windows. He wants only the basic drivers for teh notebook and none of the other Acer crap that pre installed. Can anyone tell me what these basic drivers are? Also I need to know if there is a correct order to install them in. I'm very familiar with Dell's and there is a specific order for them, but this is the first Acer I've done.

Jan 4, 2009I want to upgrade the hard drive in my Acer 4720 But i am confused with the hard drive types, the hard drives in my Acer4720 and D620 look different to the hard drive in my older C300 ... the Acer c300 has like pins where the hard drive connects to the computer whereas the ones on the dell and the 4720 look totaly different.
what is this "Different" drive called so that I can order the correct one?

Feb 13, 2008I bought an Acer Aspire 4720, installed Windows XP and Linux Ubuntu. On XP, I can see the webcam working as a USB device, but I don't have any software to make it "do" something other than showing my ugly face.
I need to record, shoot some still images, and being able to video chatting (i.e. msn messenger).
What software can I use? Do I need something else (driver)?
The webcam is working, but has no software to handle it.

Apr 29, 2008I bought a acer aspire 4720 couple of months bank. the machine was going great only till a day back. yesterday i started facing strange problems. as soon as i plugged in the charger cord ( while the machine was running), the display used to go dark... well i then used my laptop without the charger cord plugged in. After an hour or so, the display went completely dark....as in the display lights just went off.. u can still see the stuff on screen if u hold the laptop under some light source...but the lcd back lights are not glowing......i put in hard earned money in buying that laptop....

Dec 30, 2008Just got an Acer Aspire 4720-4538.
Took out the 2GB of memory and popped in 4GB of G.SKILL. Now I only get BSOD's with PFN_LIST_CORRUPT.
They work with just one at a time (2GB), but never with 4GB.
This is supposedly a Santa Rosa based laptop, so why isn't 4GB working?

Mar 14, 2009My Acer Aspire 4720 has an annoying CPU fan "on/off/on/off" behaviour that is impossible to control via software, so I wired it up with a resistor internally, soldering to a USB +5V header. The fan itself works great, but ...
The USB power (and thus the fan) stays on when I put the laptop into "sleep" mode. In Hibernation, it turns off as normal.
How can I make the USB power turn off when in normal "sleep" mode?

Oct 9, 2008I have recently purchased an acer 8930. To be honest the display is pretty rubbish. Alot of backlight streaks.
I have tried to alter the display settings in the nvidia control panel but it won't let me do this. I can slide the bars up and down the % line but nothing on the display changes.
I phoned acer support but they weren't aware of this problem and the guy thought that acer have locked this option.
I was wondering if this is
A. A fault with my laptop
B. Acer doesn't allow this
C. Can do it on the 8920g but not the 8930
HP ProBook 4720 OS/Software :: Graphics Blue Screen Of Death?
Mar 16, 2014I have an HP probook 4720s (Product #: WT238EA#ACQ). I have upgraded my RAM to 6GB.My problem. The other day I was busy playing a game when the computer froze and then turned off while it was turning off a small blue screen briefly appeared. I restarted the laptop and everything seemed fine, I left the computer for a few minutes and when I came back the screen was completely off but the computer was operating as normal. No key press or anything would put the screen back on.Everytime after this event that I tried to put the laptop on it would start(HHD spin, CPU fan work, HDD light would blink for a bit then stop but the screen would stay completely black with no blue backlight).
I tried hard reset and a number of other things like checking if the RAM was connected properly and still the screen remained off.I decided to connect the laptop to an external monitor and I finally could display on the monitor but it still would not display on the laptop screen. After the windows emblem loaded the dreaded blue screen of death would appear with a STOP error 0x00000116 which after some looking up appears to be the graphics driver.
After safe starting the system and rolling back the graphics driver to standard VGA adapter the windows 7 system was then able to start in normal mode. I've tried reinstalling the HD 5470 graphics driver but the blue screen of death continues to appear. I have completely reloaded the OS to no avail.I disconnected the laptops screen from the motherboard without the graphics driver loaded, which didn't cause a beep but displayed on the external monitor when I connected it. I tried the same with the graphic driver loaded, still no beeps were heard and when I connected the external monitor the blue screen appeared.From the tests I had tried, I believe that there must be an issue with the graphics card itself as the Blue screen of death only displays when the graphics card driver is loaded.

May 2, 2010I recently purchased an Acer 1410 and have a few questions to other owners
1. The machine comes with 2GB. To those who upgraded to 4GB with Windows 7 and the Celeron 743 processor, did you notice
any performance improvements?
2. If I were to upgrade the RAM, I'm still not sure the specs of the modules I need. The 1GB modules in my machine are from Elpida with numerical writing
1rx8 pc2 6400s 666. If anyone knows the pin-out and other specs of these modules, please share them. Even better if you can recommend specific
modules for upgrading to 4GB.
3. I wiped my machine clean and installed a licensed copy of Windows 7 Professional. Since doing so, Windows doesn't automatically resume when
I open the lid. I have to press the power button. I can't seem to find any setting in Windows-7 to correct this.
4. There are 4 led lights on the edge of the laptop that shine directly into my face. Some of them blink from time to time and get annoying.
Any way of turning off these status lights without hacking the motherboard?
5. One of the applications on the Acer site under Support is called Acer Launch Manager. I installed this along with the drivers Acer provides on their
support page. What the heck is Launch Manager. The window that pops up when clicking on the program
says if press the P key, it will launch different multimedia applications.

Feb 28, 2009I actually noticed a faint, faint line in the outer glossy covering on the top of the laptop, about half-way in the middle horizontally. It looks like a plastic blemish but looks too perfect, as it's perfectly straight and right in the center.
Again, doesn't bug me, but I'm curious if anyone else noticed this. You gotta see it in the right light!

Apr 16, 2009The LCD is bright and clear when viewed head-on, but the slightest change in vertical angle causes the brightness and colors to vary like mad, making the system unbearable to use on my lap.
I tried to figure out who made this particular LCD, but the intel graphics driver makes it hard to get the EDID info.
The only thing that sort of worked was MonInfo:

And that only worked by getting the raw data string from the EDID structure, which indicates the LCD is part number "NU412.

Oct 12, 2009I'm about to pull the trigger on either the 13 or the 16. It's really come down to how well the above to games run for you (those are the two that have me hooked at the moment, so i'll be familiar with how I'm used to it performing compared to your settings).
I'm currently on an Asus G2S-A1 thats overheating like crazy. Time to upgrade. It's specs: 2.2Ghz core 2, 4gb ram, 5400rpm hdd, 8600m-gt 256.
Will the XPS13 with a 2.66ghz, 4gb ram, 7200rpm hdd, and the N10-M 512mb gpu perform equal or better then what I'm currently on? I ask because I'm having trouble finding a comparable benchmark.
This wont be my primary gaming rig, it will be portable entertainment. BUT it does need to be able to run on par with what i have or better to entertain me Should I be happy with the 13 or do you think the 16 would be better. The only reason I'd go with teh 16 is for the Radeon 4670 1gb if the 13 has problems with wow and L4D.
If you play WoW or L4D on the 13 (or even the 16) I would GREATLY appreciate the peace of mind i would get from hearing back what your FPS are and what detail/quality settings you're getting them at.

I am trying to eliminate the problem right now.. And i am thinking about the fans.
Now i wanna know if the situation is the same with you m1710 owners.
When i (using fangui) put both fans on full speed i am mostly hearing the one on the left (the one close to the cpu), and the second fan is actually pretty quiet...
Is this true with your notes too ?
Or are they making the same amount of noise?
My impression is that the right fan is a lower power fan or something, maybe that's my problem ?

1. What kind of performance issues have any of you seen in the two different Z-series notebooks, specifically with light gaming? I know the Z540 is a 128MB card and the Z590 is a 256MB 9300GS. I was curious if there was any real downside to the 128MB card?
2. Have any of you heard any rumors about when the new CTO Z-series will be available?

Basically looks like a Z540 CTO with good options. My overall goals with the machine are writing code, basic web stuff and of course, WoW.
WoW is my biggest concern with the 128MB card because I have had a 9300GS before and it was pretty poor in the implementation and playing WoW. I was curious if anyone had impressions on the way the 128MB card handles WoW now on the Z-series and if the machine above would work or if I would need to wait for the "newer" Z's to come out and get the larger RAM card.

I was considering the HDX16t, now looking at the ASUS N50Vn-B1b. It is not a 16" screen and is more of a traditional laptop, however it appears to have superior components for a far better price after today's HP price increases.
I spent a lot of time making my decision, I really hate to change direction at this point, but can't justify the new pricing and supporting HP poor marketing decisions.

Dell :: Question For T7600G Owners
Jul 14, 2007do any software programs (notebook hardware control comes to mind) recognize your additional multiplers? Say if you boot up from bios with it set to 2.33ghz, does nhc automatically recognize the additional multipliers allowing control to 3ghz+ etc?
The reason I'm wondering is that if it does, it may be the case that even without bios support the t7600G may be able to be overclocked on 1705s (I don't believe anyone has modded the 1710 bios to work in the 1705s, right?) ... although the utility may be small because t7600gs are only available through dell right...just some pondering
