Jul 21, 2009I know there has been a lot of threads questioning this and generaly speaking most people have said it is not possible, but i really dont want to believe it as its the only thing that lets my laptop down!

processor: intel core 2 duo CPU T5750 @ 2.00GHz 2.00 GHz
Memory: 2GB
OS: vista home premium
Graphics card: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family
is it possible to upgrade this graphics card?
if i cant then what would my best option be to have the same sort of specification as my current laptop, but with a decent graphics card? or invest in getting a desktop?
what this intel graphics card thing is and why it is so terrible for playing games?

May 9, 2013My HP Pavilion dv6 SD card reader is not working after windows 8 upgrade (6 months ago). Previously it was working fine when I was using Win 7 (which is the default OS with this laptop). I cant find the device in Device manager (under System Device or Disk Drives).

Nov 25, 2013My SD card reader became non-functional after a recent upgrade of my T520 to Windows 8.1. Hardware troubleshooting said the Base System Device driver was not installed. I installed the Lenovo System Update software and searched for updates, but the driver was not updated. There is still a yellow warning symbol beside the Base System Device in the device manager. Discovered on the Lenovo driver download website that the card reader in my model is the Ricoh Media Card Reader but there is no driver compatible with Windows 8.1. Would the Windows 8 driver work or is there another solution to get my reader running again?

Nov 18, 2008I am hoping i am able to replace my video card in my 5920g.
I believe it is MXM2 and as such can be replaced.
The current card is the nvidia 8600m-gs and I'm very much afraid it isn't going to last very long, i bought this machine to play games (COD4, Bioshockand such), since the 8600 is included in the bad cards list you can see my dilemma.
My questions are,
Can this card be replaced?
If so what can i replace it with other than the 8 series nvidias?
How difficult would it be to replace? I'm not afraid to open it up and i've done a bit of work on other systems.

I have had a long and complicated history with the product. I bought it back in March.
Then, I got a virus on the system. I did not get a restore CD with the laptop so I installed XP on the laptop (initially it came with Vista). This installation was on a separate hard drive than what came initially with the laptop. Also, my monitor got broken so I had to replace it with one from an older HP laptop of mine.
Now the product had some problems, but ran with XP fine. There were problems with my video card since the drivers I needed to install were integrated with Vista.
Now, I finally reinstalled Vista on the laptop. Everything is almost back to normal... except I have one BIG problem. My device control reads that I have a "standard vga video adapter" for my video card. This is entirely false as I have an Nvideo card.
I have tried installing drivers from Acer's website but to no avail. I have gotten the error message :"Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware"

Oct 18, 2008I am using this machine over a year, its ok. I am working animation, compositing, sound design and music.So i want to make some changes on this pc.I need some recommendations, ideas about these:
1)I m using 2gb of ram and i want to max this to 4 gb. Is there any specific brand that you can say "good" and i also wonder how much mhz use max, recently i m using 667 and i want to buy what ddr2 offers max if there is no any adaptation issue.
2)I also need a 7200rpm harddisk. But i know nothing about laptop hdds. I m thinking for the best hdd as possible.But, i dont know what hdds are avalible for this Acer model, or is it not necessary something like that.
3) Finally, I ve created an Acer backup DVD, i wonder how easy to setup the computer if i change the hdd? I mean is it going to be licensed and free of problems like before.I used recovery once before, but with Empowering T software. Never did with a DVD.

Oct 15, 2009I just replaced the T5550 cpu with a T9500 (SLAYX) in my Acer Aspire 5920. I cleaned and applied Arctic Silver 5 to the cpu and gpu. It started right up, but now it seems like the cooling fan doesn't ever shut down. When the temp. hits about 55 deg C.
(according to speedfan 4.39), the fan runs at full speed. With the T5550, it would need to reach about 65 deg before running full speed, but not for long.
I have system BIOS v.1.3810
Is it possible that I did a poor job of applying the Arctic Silver 5? Any settings that
I need to change for the fan to stop continuously running?

Oct 17, 2009I recently replaced the T5550 cpu in my Aspire 5920 with a T9500 (SLAYX). I bought the T9500 on E-bay as new, SLAYX, installed it and it works fine. Two different programs (CPU-Z and PC Wizard 2008 identify this processor as a T9500 (ES). The cpu had the SLAYX marking on the top. Is it possible I bought an engineering sample cleverly disguised as SLAYX?

Oct 5, 2008I also purchased the 5920 from Wal-Mart about 6 months ago. About 2 months ago my 160Gig HDD just failed on me and I had to send it to Texas to have it repaired. What I need to know is this: I just bought Assasin's Creed and my not-so brand new lappy wont play it. It loads through the intro and then fails. I realize that my CPU is 1.66Ghz and the requirements for the game is 1.9 or better. Still, I thought I might get lucky. Stupid me. So, I've been reading these forums and upgrading my CPU from my T5450( 1.6)to the T8300 (2.4). Now I also have 3GB DDR2 Ram installed and want to move to 4, so do I need to buy new ram that runs at 800mhz to reflect the changes I've made to my cpu? Or should I just take out a 1GB ram and put in a 2GB of the same kind already in it? It's the Samsung DDR SDRam 1x1 and 1x2.

Nov 9, 2008I've been having trouble deciding on whether I should upgrade my 5920's processor/ram and if it was worth it.
I play games moderately and I just need it to perform to my standards, so far in testing this laptop it doesn't hold up too well in FPS in the games I play (Counter-Strike: Source, Warhammer, etc).
I was wondering, if upgrading my processor from the T7300 to the P8600 or maybe even the P9500 would help at all in the performance increase.
In CSS, the computer itself gets 230 FPS on the video stress test. In the real time gameplay it holds up to it, but it's just that it isn't perfect and is sometimes skippy and I will get random chops every few minutes or so. I concluded that most of it was due to the heat and possibly due to the slower processor and amount of ram I have (I have 2GB).
If I can't get this laptop working up to par I'm going to have to invest in another one, as I plan on having a laptop that I can use for school and at home on external monitor and accessories without it being the 20 pound 17" gaming laptop.
Another thing is, will using the P series of processor lower my overall laptop heat and power consumption since they are 25W compared to the T7300's 35W?

Feb 11, 2009I have a Acer Aspire 5920G (Vista Home with SP1) laptop which I use for general purposes as well as occasional DVDs and a little games.
With the kind help from members of this forum I upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 4GB a couple of months ago but of course my 32bit Vista only uses 3GB which leaves 1GB unused. The laptop's processor is a T7300 at 2.00GHz.
Its NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GT graphics card (with latest driver installed) seems to work quite well but a friend who I occasionally game with said I could go into the BIOS and allocate the unused 1GB of RAM to the card which will improve its performance.
I googled this to check but the articles I read (with my limited technical knowledge!!) seemed to say that allocating extra RAM in the BIOS does not work with dedicated cards and attempts to do so could in fact reduce performance.
I would be very grateful if an expert in this excellent forum who is knowledgeable about graphics cards could please clarify the situation for me.
Basically can I go into the BIOS to increase the card's RAM allocation to improve performance as my friend suggested or is this a waste of time and/or dangerous ?
Looking at the NVIDIA system info, I see that it says Total Available Graphics is 1535MB but dedicated video memory is 256MB. Does this support what my friend says or is it unrelated ?

Apr 5, 2009i have this laptop, great laptop, works great; however, the sd card reader has not worked in ages. I have tried upgrading to new drivers, reloading old drivers, etc etc....The driver company is ricoh.

Dec 13, 2008My memory card reader was fine, however after reinstalling Vista Ultimate it won't work.
It shows up as "Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller" in Device Manager. However I've tried multiple SD cards and it just won't recognize that anything has been inserted. The computer doesn't pause or show any indication that it's doing something when I insert a memory card.
I have a Ferrari 4006WLMi with Windows Vista Ultimate.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers several times already. I have also upgraded to the latest BIOS

Sep 19, 2014I have tried everything to get this SD card reader to work but to no avail. Even a fresh install of W7/32 ... nothing... Every time i insert an SD card in the slot... i get a message. USB device not recognized ... one of the usb devices has malfunctioned & Windows does not recognize it... I am also just using a 2 g SD card not an sdhc card.
In the Device Manager.... it shows up as "unknown device" yellow highlight... try to update the driver ... says i already have the best driver..... when i take the sd card out...unknown device disappears... i have also re-installed the drivers from here for the card reader... but nothing....
Furthermore... it seems to lead to an error code 43 ..

I have been searching around about graphics card upgrade on acer laptops, there are cases where people have upgraded from nvidia to ati and ati to nvidia sucessfully without problems.
Does that really mean as long as the mxm slot is capable of installing the graphics card, and upgraded your bios to the lastest version then it is just PLUG AND PLAY ?
