my 6920G. It seems like my subwoofer isn't enabled, i tried to enable it with the Acer HD audio manager and normally it should work. But when i tell my computer to play a sound trough the subwoofer it just doesn't.
View 4 RepliesI've had this laptop since November as a replacement for my old 6920G which unfortunately got stolen, and the subwoofer/booster has been working fine with the latest Realtek driver on Windows 7.
However today I noticed that my music sounded a bit 'tinny', then discovered that the tuba booster thing wasn't working at all. I have no idea when it stopped working, although I suspect it my have physically broken in some way as I've done quite a bit of trvelling with my laptop over Christmas.
Is there any way I can properly identify the cause of the problem, and how would I go about getting it fixed? I'm not sure if I even have a warranty as I bought it second hand off ebay!
I have a 5.1 output on my comp and after reading up on Wikipedia I'm still not sure whether I should be getting sound from 5 or all 6 speakers. In the test thing it says ; If the low frequency sounds are not heard from the subwoofer (Tuba) then I should check the "Swap" box to swap the center speaker for the subwoofer, which seems to indicate I should normally be getting sound from all 6 speakers, as when I make the test Icones all 6 speakers send out soundwaves. I'm pretty sure that, in the past, I was getting sound from all the speakers, and that the subwoofer was a lot stronger than before.

My subwoofer seems to be broken, sometimes it sounds as it should but sometimes it sounds like a broken speaker. Have anyone else experienced this? Is there a easy fix or do I need to hand it in for repair?
When it was new 2 months ago I began with creating two partitions on the windows drive (it has 2 harddrives) because I don't like it when the windows partition is on 500 gb, then everything got screwed and nothing worked (I so hate the MS partitioning tool).
Because of this I lost the backup partition and the genuin OS. I have ordered the windows seven upgrade but I wonder, can I do a clean install without having a genuin os on the pc, with the upgrade kit?
Is there anyway I get a new backup partition?
I do have a serial on the back of the laptop for vista, is there anywhere I can get the oem dvd for vista for this laptop and install it with my serial?
Right now I have windows 7 RC and the volume touch slider does not work. I can't find any drivers for it on the acer driver site. IS it broken or what is wrong?
I've got an Aspire 7730 which is about a month old. Everything is working fine except the subwoofer seems to be very weak. You need to put your ear up against it to hear anything at all so it's more or less useless as is. My brother's 5920 has a very good subwoofer and the sound output is excellent from it.
Would anyone know if this is normal for the 7730 or do I have a faulty subwoofer?
I have installed a clean version of Windows 7 on my Acer 6530G and installed the drivers provided on the Acer site, but after setting 5.1 audio in the settings and ran the test, there is no sound coming out of the Subwoofer.
I don't have any Acer software anymore, only because there are none to download on the Acer site apart from the launch manager.
Does anyone know what I need to do in order to get the subwoofer to work?
Tried getting the empower framework to install in order to use the launch button for it, but keep getting an error message about 'no supported operating system'!
In mine DV7 speakers+subwoofer i can't hear anything relevant from subwoofer even if i push the low frequencies of equalizator up.
Only when i connect to an hi-fi i can hear difference, of course the DV7 subwoofer doesn't matter then, it is only the IDT system working.

I can't tell if the subwoofer is outputting any sound. Is there a way to disable the speakers and just have the subwoofer active (aside from taking the laptop apart and disconnect cables).
Just received an XPS 1640 last week. Great system so far. A question about the audio.
I can't seem to tell if my subwoofer is working or not. Audio seems ok, but not very bassy and none of my adjustments to bass levels seem to have much effect. I've got the most recent IDT drivers installed (6.10.0.6162). When I try testing the speakers in the speaker setup (Start - > control panel ->hardware and sound -> sound ->speakers and headphones (IDT high definition audio codec) -> configure-> 5.1) all the speakers play a test sound, except for the subwoofer?
Should the internal subwoofer play a test sound, or is the 5.1 configuration just for external speakers? Poking around on the dell community forums, I read that some recent 1640's shipped with dead subwoofers. Just can't seem to hear any bass from where the subwoofer should be.

It sounds as if the person who put the laptop together wired them incorrectly, the top speakers near the keyboard sounds very faint and tinny like a surround speaker on a home theater system, but the volume is very low and cannot hear it unless you put your ear up to the speakers.

I'm writing because I'm hearing an annoying noise coming from the subwoofer. It sounds like induced RF noise. I hear the noise regardless of whether the speakers are muted or not. I've also disabled or muted all the audio recording devices, but no change.
It basically sounds like radio frequency noise, probably induced from some other component in the laptop whose leads run close to or over the speaker wire for the subwoofer.
I just recently picked up my new DV7, wiped the drive and re-installed Vista Ultimate x64. The machine itself runs great, but after installing all the drivers and the most recent bios, I hit a strange snag- I have my right channel speaker, works fine. But my left channel isn't coming out the left speaker, but out through the subwoofer. I've tried uninstalling the IDT codec and letting Vista use it's own driver, same deal. Re-installed IDT, same deal. I get no sound at all through the left speaker, and Vista only recognizes me as having 2 speakers.

I have noticed my 6920g's fan to go annoying loud when playing Warcraft, which indeed is a pretty graphic instensive game depending where you are in WoW.
My question is to anyone else who owns a 6920g and plays WoW, do you have the same fan problems as me? Sure I understand it isnt going to be silent but recently it has seemed to get worse and it's really doing my nut in.
Comments and thoughts, obviously welcome.

I've just bought the wife a new laptop and it's a 6920g (same as mine lol) with exactly the same spec as mine! but what im wondering is, would it be posible to somehow make a mirror image of my hd and transfer it to her new one? im thinking of using e recovery manager and send her com my user created back up image and then restore it on her side, but im not sure if this would work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRight after Vista got a virus and gave up on me i took the plunge and installed xp little did i know how much of a nightmare it was going to be. i know there are a few more threads like this but my acer has the hd 3650 and i cant find the drivers anywhere people direct me to a page on the ati website but when i download them it says you do not have the proper hardware for these drivers to be installed . In device manager Display adapters isnt even listed.I stil have ? By network controller uknown device usb device and video controller (vga Compatible)

As soon as I received it, I formated the drive and installed Windows XP Pro SP3. So far so good. All drivers installed, everything working.
Except for one little detail : I have sound on subwoofer only, no speaker, not even on headphones, no matter what jack I plug in. Sub does turn off when I plug the headphones though.
I tried several IDT drivers, all act the same.
I have a 6920G with 4Gb of RAM, a C2D T9300 and the Geforce 9500GS running Vista 64-bit.
For some reason I'm only getting 3DMark03 scores around 5200-5300 but I've seen benchmarks of identical systems much much higher.

Should my 9500GS really suck so much ?
Any 6920G owner have their hard drive access light stuck on "on" for about 30 seconds or so and have their laptops freeze for this duration? Freeze as in as soon as I click any window, it turns white. This happens every now and then, doesn't matter what I'm doing.

What's wrong? is there a lock on it or something?
I've found most of the drivers for xp64bit but i read that tuba speaker doesn't work well (even if you install the corrent drivers from acer) and that's very dissapointing...

But can anybody explain to me, why i can get the following temps (tested separately)
cpu, max before downclocking:
realtemp: 91°
hw monitor: 76°
gpu, stock powermizer on
gpu-z 73° (stopped myself still no downclocking)
But then when i start playing cod5 my cpu starts downclocking @ 58° (hw monitor), while GPU @ 63°....
Why does this only happen while gaming when it seems that both cpu and gpu can handle much higher temps?
Combined it should reach even higher temps but it doesn't because it downclocks?
Is there something else that can force the cpu to downclock?
I've got the acer aspire 6920G, and when i play world of warcraft my fps drops to 7 in 25man raids. I play with really low options.
I've always had low fps, i tried installing windows Xp, vista and now windows 7 and nothing helps.
Now i must say, win7 had the best result. My fps increased in major cities, but in raids it's still the same thing.
I defragged my HD, I use a 64bit to use my full ram, I run no background programs, all options are on low, and i still get 7fps.
I'm brand new to laptops and just bought an Acer Inspire 6920G and love it!
The only problem is that it came with Vista and keeps giving me problems. So i got out my windows xp cd and tried to reformat it. But after i select to install XP, i get a screen saying that it was unable to find a hard disc and that i might need to run a setup or diagnostic. My computer shows an ACER(C) drive and then a DATA(D) drive, but my windows xp doesn't see it

i've just got an Acer Aspire 6920G and i have a question about the RAM.
The sticker on the palmrest says it has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, as does the box. But the system information on the computer says 3GB, CPUz says it has 4GB.
I've opened it up and there are definitely 2 sticks of 2GB DDR3 RAM, so why does the Windows system info say it only has 3GB?

I've refreshed my bios to 1.07 and I have tried 1.06 and 1.10.
I am not sure if they are official release version, but since I've refreshed my bios with these versions, my computer fails.
In the past, I could use recovery DVD to restore my system, and audio drive work fine, very high quality. Now it's gone, even I use recovery DVD, my audio drive does not works fine.
It sounds like a realtek HD public drive (low sound quality), and I cannot use plug-in microphone when 5.1 Dolby effect opened.
No matter what I do it will not take a microphone. The mic is working, I plugged it into an amp. It can't be the connector as I just got a new one today and tried it on the Aux input of a headphone amp.
This is absolutely ridiculous. I remember having this trouble before. I can't even seen to access "line in" as an option when recording anymore either. What's going on? I need to record some stuff and I can't use the crappy in built mic for that.
I've been playing some games fine, e.g. pro evo 2009, in fact I played a whole season with no problems.
Today when I turned on my comp and tried to play it got stuck, and then when i restart it's all really really slow (unplayable)
My other games have got all slow as well
Is there anyway to see if the graphics card is working properly?
