Acer :: Aspire 5315 Boot- Flash Drive Installed
Dec 28, 2009I'm using a Scandisk 8 gig flash drive for ready boost. When I boot the computer, it won't boot in to vista unless the flash drive is pulled out. I updated to bios 1.43.

View 5 Replies View RelatedSecond time this has happened. I've downloaded the BIOS update from Acer's website.
Closed all programs, disabled the antivirus and went to flash it. Right after clicking start I get a Verify Error and the sytem freezes and is a dead unit. First time this happened they tried to tell me it was something like $150 to fix even though I did everything right. Now I went to do it again, same thing. Now Acer is telling me it will cost $450 to fix it. It's only 3 months old. They are also saying they are not responsible for anything downloaded from their web site.
So, couple questions. Has anyone successfully flashed their BIOS to 1.34? Does anyone know where you can buy motherboards cheap?
I have an Acer Aspire 5315 and says "No audio Device is installed". Where can i find the drivers...?
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen my girlfriend tries to switch on the above laptop it seems to boot up but there is just a blank, black screen. If you look very, very closely the desktop display seems to be there but we don't know how to change the colour/contrast etc. Is it as simple as that do you think or is the problem deeper. I've tried everything I can think of; I've thrown water over it, hit it with the cat and punched it. None seem to work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have upgraded the OS to Win 7 Home Premium, 32 bit, and had the hard drive upgraded to a 320 GB SATA drive. The system will boot flawlessly with the SATA drive installed, it will not boot with the 500Gb Samsung 840 EVO SSD drive installed.
Â
When the power button is pressed the power light lights up, the hard drive activity light lights up, the CPU cooling fan comes on, the DVD drive light comes on and you hear a couple of clicks then it turns off.
Â
Is there a special setting in BIOS that needs to be made or is this notebook simply unable to use an internal SSD drive?
You can flash the bios with the version 1.11 (1.09 unavailable on the Acer website).
Flash only the bios under DOS.
I just changed the hard drive on my acer 5515. I also tried to add an operating system using a flash and it won't do anything. I changed the order so it can read from the usb but after that it's stuck on a blank page with a flashing line.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been working on computers for almost 20 years and this has me completely confused. My Aspire V3-571-6643 laptop was working fine until just recently. The system will power on and show the Acer screen and then immediately reboots. It will stay in this reboot loop until manually stopped.
Â
I cleaned and reseated the RAM module and also tried it in both slots with no change. I was able to access BIOS and determined the drives and all settings are correct and even reset to factory defaults with no change. I then pulled the HDD to use in a docking station to determine if the drive was salvagable. Everything reads fine and passed both short and long tests via SeaTools. With the HDD installed the system won't try to boot to CD/USB but after removing it the system will boot to CD just fine. I then ran a full scan using Eurosoft Pc-Check and everything is fine. I reinstalled the HDD and immediately get the reboot loop again.
Â
At this point the mainboard and HDD both test fine independently but will not work together. My only guess is that the mainboard is no longer supplying enough power for all of the components and crashing when the HDD tries to spin up on boot. That, or the SATA controller is malfunctioning and only working for the ODD.

For some reason my x61 will not allow me to boot to usb flash drive, which i normally use to install OS'. What could be wrong and what i could do to rectify it?
Â
I should mention that USB is enabled in the BIOS, and the usb flash disk install works on other computers.
Â
Update appeared to be some incompatibility with wintoflash, i used the Microsoft DVD/USB tool and it booted to the flash drive and completed the install. Strangely the wintoflash install worked fine in an HP dv3000.
I was replacing y HDD in the laptop with SDD. The laptop is acer 4830TG, it had 512GB HDD WD. Replacing it with Kingston SSD 480GB.
The SSD is not detected at startup of the laptop, while it is detected on another machine, I also tried another SSD on the acer and it was detected (the other SSD is 120GB). Is this a sort of compatibility issue ?
I just got a new Lenovo W540. Â I installed a new Samsung EVO SSD inside to replace the stock mechanical hard drive. Â I'm now trying to boot from a flash drive to clean install Windows. Â I've done this so many times before on other laptops and desktops without a problem. Â For some reason now it will not boot from the flash drive. Â It shows it as available in the BIOS but it looks like it reads it for just a second and then goes right back to the screen that allows me to choose which drive I want to put to.The same flash drive works fine in other computers to boot to.I did check to make sure the USB drive was not excluded in the BIOS and it is not.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to figure this out. I've done some searches and googled some more but to no avail.
I recently migrated over from PC so I might be having a harder time than some.
Anyway, I installed Windows XP Pro SP3 without a hitch. After installing it, I tried to remove the CD in order to install my bootcamp drivers. No luck. I tried right clicking CD drive and then eject, no luck. I tried all other possible methods in Windows to eject it, no luck.
I ended rebooting and holding down the trackpad and it finally ejected. Anyway, my hope was that installing bootcamp will help the issue but it didnt. When I'm in Windows and holding down the eject button, I would see the eject graphics pop up on screen, but nothing comes out. HOwever, the CD drive reads without a problem.
Any other things that I can do? Am I required to use SP2 when installing? Also, everything is fine in Mac OS.
I gained a lot of information from the 5315 CPU Upgrade Thread. I'd particularly like to thank BigOzone, Hoggie and Quilty997. There are many others but information from the above formed the basis of my upgrade.
Other information I've collected from other parts in the forum.
The specification of the laptop was as follows.
Acer Aspire 5315
Celeron 550 2.0Ghz (eek)
1gb of Ram
Vista Home Basic (double eek)
Atheros Wireless Card
80Gb Toshiba Hard Disk
The new Specification is.
Core2Duo T7500 2.2Ghz 800 Mhz Front Side Bus 4Mb Cache
3Gb of Crucial Ram
Vista Home Basic (No Choice At the Minute)
Intel 4965 AGN Wireless Card
200Gb Hitachi Hard Disk
The CPU Upgrade I won't actually cover, not necessary when there is a fantastic sticky at the top of this forum. The Upgrade took about 15 minutes, but the actual swap took about 5 minutes or so, I was very anal about cleaning the heatsink and applying AS5. I think the biggest scare was the door unerneath, quite tricky to get off and put back on without damaging the tabs.
My main focus is the hard drive swap, whilst maintaining all the eRecovery software. For this I use Acronis True Image Home, I am aware that the trial can be downloaded or users obtain by other means, can I just say BUY IT as it only cost me £17 from Amazon.co.uk and as usual it was cheaper in the US. The biggest reason for buying is that some features are not available in the trial. I also bought a Laptop SATA External Drive Holder and boy was I glad I did......................
I have a Acer Aspire 5315 that has been causing me a lot of problem. It recently started to shutdown with no warning and keept doing it for a while until it died. I have searched the forum for answers but havent been able to find anything good. This whole week it hasnt been able to boot. I tried pulling out the harddrive, switching memory modules, cleaning up the clogged heatshink without any resultats. I think the shutdown problem was due to the clogged heatsink and the computer overheateting. Now it won't boot at all.
When I press the powerbutton the fan spins up and the power led turns green. 4-5 sec after that fan stops and after few more sec the green led turns off but no boot.
1. If I press the on switch, it doesn't turn on the laptop right away. I have to press it twice or three times and then it starts booting up. This occurs whether I am using the AC or just the battery which is fully charged.
2. My next problem is probably connected to problem one. If I try restart, it will not restart and I have to press the on/off button twice and then maybe it will reboot.
All the above just started after I tried increasing the memory of my laptop, 5315 to 4gb. Then I had a problem the screen went black but I realized later that my battery wasn't fully charged and when it was, my laptop was able to boot and work properly.I replaced the memory with original 2gb of ram.
Is the Acer laptop able to turn on with just AC and not the battery ?
I have an Acer Aspire 5315 (Vista) that will not start. When you push the power button the power light comes on for 9 or 10 seconds then goes off. I've tried with/out the battery installed. I have held down the power button for 60 seconds without any power connected/installed. I have reseated the RAM. Tried a different AC Adapter, nothing.
Does the CMOS battery need changing?
My setup is as follows:
Acer 5315-201G08Mi
Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 550 @ 2.00GHz (Socket P)
TOSHIBA MK8046GSX
Intel GL960 chipset
IO chip being 82801HBM (ICH8-M).
2G DDR2 533 ram
Vista Home Basic
MB - ICL50
I've noticed that the supplied Toshiba SATA II drive is running in SATA I mode and not SATA II even though the controller chip supports SATA II.
Perhaps the BIOS has disabled SATA II?
In addition, I'm keen to upgrade the CPU to a T7300, I assume if I follow the directions on this site, everything should work fine? Any known problems with this model?
I bought my E15 without dvd-r, I cant access to the bios pressing F2.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI got a problem with my Acer Aspire 5315. The HDD is shown in the bios but won't show in Vista most of the time. The HDD is completely formated, including the Acer partition. So recovery is not an option.
The problem is strange because it is not consistent. Sometimes I am able to acces the drive and install Vista. But then the next day, when i try to boot again, i only see a cursor after the Acer boot screen.
I've tried running in IDE mode. I also tried replacing the HDD with a new one. I installed vista with the correct Intel driver.
I also tried running Linux live cd. It also sees the HDD drive correctly but when i try to acces it, the program freeses.
I'm affraid something is wrong with the I/O controller, or it is a loose cable.
If you think otherwise, please let me know. If not, i'd like to know how I can check the HDD cable.

I want to upgrade the ram and i now it will downclock, but my question is:
Is it worth it to buy more than 1Gb? My OS is Vista.
i upgraded my aspire 5315 from vista basic 2 vista premium. it took a lot of space on the hard drive so i tried 2 reset 2 factory settings by alt/f10 but nothing nothing happened . has the upgrade removed my recovery ghost partition. my hard drive has been partitioned c/and d/ drives the d drive has files in it. i tried alt/f10 again and there was loads of beebing i switched of the lap top asap rebooted now the acer logo does not come up anymore, boots 2 os screen.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy aspire 5315 over heats occasionally and when i am using it it shuts down due to heating problems. I use "notebook hardware control 2.0" to monitor my hardware, and at time it shows my cpu temp to be 98 degree centigrade, at 99 it shuts down.
So what im asking that is this a normal issue, do you guys owning this model have this problem as well.
Today i used "Speedfan" to find out any info about my cpu fans, but it gave me no info, like no fans found.
Can some one install this app in their aspire 5315 and tell me if u get the same results.
edit: k even if someone else does not have this app or does not want to install it. i stilll find it a bit odd for a laptop to be with out a cpu fan, dont u.
like this is how the normal operation of speddfan should look like, " i ran it on my desktop pc"
and here is the one running on my acer
I downloaded the new BIOS for the 5315 and went to run it tonight. It said I had 1.22 and the new BIOS was 1.25. I double clicked the BIOS program, said to close all other programs so I did, and then clicked START. It got about 1/10 of the way through and then said something about a read error (I can't remember exactly). It completely froze my system where I couldn't even force power off by holding the power button. Acer tech support said that flashing the BIOS isn't covered under warrantee and it's $100 to send it in and get them to replace the mobo. He also kept saying that there are ways to fix this myself, just to look online. I have tried force powering it off by unplugging the power and unplugging the battery. Now it won't turn on at all.
