Acer :: Aspire 6920G Throttling & Upgrade

Apr 16, 2010

My notebook has worked fine until about half a year ago when the CPU is overheating from doing little tasks such as skyping and having the internet open. So I read up on the topic and ended up here. I have rmclock installed and adjusted it a bit but no real effect. I also don't want to mess up my laptop by frying it.

For the Aspire 6920G with Intel T5750 @ 2GHz what do I have to set my FID and VID at?

other question:
Would you recommend upgrading my CPU or is the current one sufficient? (I use it for occasional gaming (Empire total war) and multimedia applications such as photo-shop)

If so what other components would I have to change?

Would it increase the performance of my laptop?

Acer :: 6920G Throttling

May 19, 2010

I've had the Acer 6920G for quite some time, I realized I should put a stop to throttling/downclocking.

I tried the several ways which came from this site, especially from flipfire and DarkSilver. I already undervolted my cpu, but after I played L4D2 for about 10 mins it started to throttle again. And the post which DarkSilver made was to go to regedit and change some settings in the RightMark CPU Utility, I've done that yet it still throttled.

I also attempted to go to BIOS and check if I could disable EIST, but there was no option. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this? I've updated my drivers and everything, and I also upgraded to Windwos 7 - but it still stays the same way.

Acer :: Chaser Update Re: 6920G Throttling

Jun 26, 2009

Here's the bullet points:I was only able to get the machine to throttle ONCE in front of them. I'm absolutely stumped why my 6920G behaved so well (do they have Acer-be-good signals on their property? ), but I think it may have something to do with my resetting of the GPU back to stock clocks. I'm going to keep it there and see.That being said, they at least know that the system does throttle at a lower temperature than it should.

They suspect it's a motherboard, fan, or BIOS issue, but couldn't hammer it down without taking my system for more time than I had.I was not able to get a stock 6920G to throttle AT ALL. They brought out a model with a T5750 Core 2 Duo and BIOS v1.06, and using ORTHOS I was able to get it to and above 60 degrees without a single stutter or throttle. This may denote that the problem is not as systematic as we originally imagined, or that the demo system was the exception.In any case, they'll happily take my system and fix it up properly whenever I don't need it anymore. (of course, I will need to slide the original CPU back in) So, what does that mean for those of us who do throttle every now and again?

Unfortunately, there isn't a one-size-fits-all fix. Since the problem occurs across CPUs and BIOSes, it's up to YOU, the user, to find a solution that works. And what works for you may not work for everyone else.

Acer :: 6920g Laptop Down Throttling When Gaming

Jun 3, 2009

I am experiencing a problem with my 6920g laptop throttling down when playing games when the heat increases eg. GTA IV.

I've already tried just using RM-Clock Utility and setting it for max performance but yet it still clocks down with heat increase.

I’ve seen an excellent guide on here for lowering the voltage of my laptop so would this help with gaming (as well as the general running of the laptop)

I noticed that on my windows score my ram was the lowest. Why? I have 3 Gb the max I can have for a 32 bit OS. is it because the ram is DDR2? Is there really a point to upgrade my ram? Will it make my computer faster? Or is it possible to upgrade my ram on my acer aspire 6920G?

I experience stutter and frame rate drop after about 40 minutes of gaming. Something is triggering Nvidia Powermizer to slow down my GPU. After the GPU drops in performance it stays there unless I restart my computer. this is not related to cpu downclocking because i'm running throttlesop. more info in my sig.

Acer :: 6920G Max Upgrade, Cpu+gfx+hd

Dec 9, 2009

I have an acer 6920g which i intend to upgrade to the maximum possible starting with the cpu, after a bit of research the only contenders are the T9500 and the X9000 but im wondering if its worth it for the x9000 as i believe the bios is locked out on my acer so wouldnt be able to overclock it.

Even still it is 200mhz faster than the T9500 but am i going to notice this in the real world?

Next will be memory, apparently the chipset only supports up to pc5300 667mhz ram but will take pc6400 800mhz ram and downclock..

So to confirm, there is no gain in putting in faster ram?

Either way i will be putting in 4gb of decent low latency ram.

Now for a tricky 1, graphics......

I currently have an ati hd3650 512mb card that resides in an mxm2 slot which when i bought the laptop was the best gfx card i could find in it but no i want to put a 9600gt in to compliment the rest of the upgraded system (as i do play the odd game!) but have not found anything confirming if they work fully, i have found a card on ebay that has an acer bios and is ddr3, i'm assuming that with an acer bios it should work?

Also i will be putting in a large but fast hard drive such as this

Acer :: Best MXM Upgrade For My 6920G

Oct 25, 2009

My 6920G has a Geforce 9500M GS card in it atm. I have overclocked it as far as it will go and tbh, I'm still not happy.

What is the best compatible upgrade?

Am I right in thinking it's MXM-II and therefore the best card would be a 9600GT DDR3 that is found in the top-spec 8930G Aspires?

Is there anywhere that sells these cards with the Acer BIOS already installed?

I'm guessing a card from another brand laptop or with generic BIOS won't work?

Acer :: The Definitive Guide To Aspire Gemstone Blue Throttling

Jul 29, 2009

The Definitive Guide to Acer Aspire Gemstone Blue Throttling Issues v2.0
Credit Due to DarkSilver, ATG, Sgogeta4, and Unclewebb

This thread is specifically designed to put an end to the multitude of threads about people asking why their Aspire 6920G, 6930G, 6935G, 8920G, or 8930G is experiencing lackluster performance in gaming.

What Causes It

We’re not 100% certain, but through a process of elimination, we believe there are two possible causes:

•That a sensor on the motherboard is going haywire, reading internal temperatures entirely wrong. As a result, the system’s BIOS believes the CPU’s temperature is reaching dangerous levels when it’s really well within operating limits, and causes a thermal throttle to be activated. This halves the CPU’s performance until the temperatures are returned to what the system perceives as safe levels.

•It could also be potentially linked to a ridiculously low setting in the BIOS and not the fault of a motherboard sensor – this was refuted by my travel to Acer’s Canadian headquarters, where a stock 6920G was shown to operate just fine, with no throttling whatsoever. That being said, given the large number of users affected, it's still a possibility.....................

Acer :: 6920G Screen Upgrade

Oct 6, 2009

I'm sure I'm not the only one that thinks 720p just isn't enough.. I've been shopping for a new LCD panel for my 6920G, but was wondering a few things:

Brief background on my box:
T5750, 4GB, BD (Optiarc), PM965, 9500M GS, 1366x768.

Ideal:
T9300, 4GB, BD (Optiarc), PM965, 9600M GT, 1920x1080.

I'm going to start with the LCD panel first. The benefit from CPU upgrades seems nominal, and GPU upgrades seem expensive and a PITA.

a) Is there a guide/howto regarding how to change panels yet?
b) Is there any issues going from 1366x768 -> 1920x1080? Is it even possible?
c) I can't seem to find reliable places that sell the SAMSUNG, is a place like this reputable: [url]

Acer :: 6920G Win 7 Upgrade Battery

Feb 24, 2010

I noticed some of you are using Acer 6920G with Windows 7 (TehSuigi for example).

I only recently upgraded from Vista and experienced serious degradation of battery life.

It went from 2:45 to less than 2 hours immediately, and today it was closer to an hour.

I was wondering if anyone else experienced this problem and how you dealt with it. I thought maybe a BIOS upgrade could fix it, but I haven't tried this yet. Some claim it's a OS issue, some claim it's a manufacturer issue. Any feedback is appreciated, as I need to go on a trip soon and I need my battery working

Acer :: 6920g- Upgrade To Intel 5300 Wifi

Oct 30, 2009

Just recieved my intel 5300 wifi card ready for the upgrade.

Upgrade physically went semi well, the 4965agn that was fitted was a devil to get out.

Seems like acer decided to get superman to tighten the two screws that hold the wifi card down. In the end the only solution was to remove the 2 pillers from the pcb(with pliers and brute force) and remove the card.

Windows xp fired up fine, no wifi connected popup. drivers were my first thought.

Checked device manager, code 10 on the device. tried new drivers, old driver sets, no progress.

Also there was a few links about the pcie 2 and pcie 1 compatiblity problems. But a pcie2 card should run at the pcie1 speeds when fitted to that slot, so that shouldnt be the problem.

Ive ordered a 2nd intel 5300, one that should be 'more' compatible..we will see. will post update on that when it arrives.

as of this point id say that the intel wifi 5300 does not play well with the acer 6920g.

Acer :: Aspire 6920G Fps

I've got the acer aspire 6920G, and when i play world of warcraft my fps drops to 7 in 25man raids. I play with really low options.

I've always had low fps, i tried installing windows Xp, vista and now windows 7 and nothing helps.

Now i must say, win7 had the best result. My fps increased in major cities, but in raids it's still the same thing.

I defragged my HD, I use a 64bit to use my full ram, I run no background programs, all options are on low, and i still get 7fps.

Acer :: Aspire 6920G RAM 3GB Or 4GB

Jan 22, 2009

i've just got an Acer Aspire 6920G and i have a question about the RAM.

The sticker on the palmrest says it has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, as does the box. But the system information on the computer says 3GB, CPUz says it has 4GB.

I've opened it up and there are definitely 2 sticks of 2GB DDR3 RAM, so why does the Windows system info say it only has 3GB?

Acer :: GTA IV & Aspire 6920G

Mar 9, 2009

I have a Acer Aspire 6920g with the following specs:

Geforce 9500m GS 512MB
4GB RAM
Inter Core 2 Duo Processor T5750 2.0 Ghz
Windows Vista SP1 Home Premium

I have tried lowering settings to lowest, but i only notice a couple of fps gain.. So if i change my settings from medium to low, i notce +3 fps wish seems really weird. I tried using a lot of tweaks with the commandline, turning off clip capture.. but nothing help, it's still runs at about 15-17fps. Ireally love this game, and I hope i can play it at an acceptable speed. I understand that the game is extremely unoptizmed, but i hope there is something i can do.

I've tried a couple of drivers like the ones on acer site 176, 179.28, 179.48, 182.50 (dox).. but i noticed that all are about the same.. I even tried installing XP, but that didn't help either.

so what do you think i should do?

And for those who have acer 6920g, are you able to play GTA4 fine?

Some CD's it makes no noise, and its always working with those CD's. Other CD's make hella lotta noise...this is a werid conclusion but I THINK DVD's make no noise, and CD's make noise, now not just Music CD's but i mea CD's with 700m not 4 gb like DVD's.
