The SSD drive would be big enough for my needs but I'm hearing they are real slow. My experience with other SS storage devices would seem to confirm this. Any experience out there with speed issues on these solid state hard drives?

The drive is a Matsushita UJ-845-S, when it was new it had a firmware version 1.00 and they gave me some incompatible problems with some media, so i decided to flash with a newer version, 1.02 and after that the drive work well but I was unable to did the boot from cd.

The firmware 1.02 is for toshiba OEM and this is why it give me this problem.
So now wath I can do, I send an email to acer-support but they want only that i send to acer but i must pay because is my fault .
My question is, I see some internal dvd drivers for notebook to buy, so I can buy one and replace with my?.
All internal drives can work fine if I replace or i must see some technical caractheristics?

I am going insane, on the device manager it says I have two HDs, but I think one of them has been partitioned, the one with the windows data on (C drive) the HDs in my computer are displayed as this:
I've been told of a program call 'Raid' or something, but I'm really not sure what it actually does.
I just want to know if the two smaller HDs are partitioned and if possible, how to join them up again,
I have purchased a DVD Writer to replace the DVD-ROM the laptop came with. With some of my old laptops, these drives were held by one screw or a spring loaded lock, but this does not seem to be the case with the Acer.
which screws in which order need to be taken out to replace the drive?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI picked up a 4730Z last week, and it has a 120GB HDD in it. I need a little more room, and am looking to add the full 4GB's of ram.
My question is which hard drive to get for this model. I'm not sure if I can use a 3.0 GB/s SATA or not or if I should get a 1.5 GB/s. I want at least a 320GB drive, but can't find any that specifically say there's a jumper option for 3.0/1.5. Search function yielded me no results either for the 4730Z specs.

This afternoon my Acer Aspire 5600's 100GB ATA/IDE drive died on me (lots of clicking/grinding sounds, nonstop disk read errors). I was looking around for a replacement but all I can find in stores are SATA drives. Can I find a reliable IDE drive somewhere for cheap? Would it be worth putting in a solid state drive (if one can be found for $100 or less)?
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy mum (bless her heart) has managed to get a cd stuck in the optical drive of her Acer Aspire 7520 laptop. The drawer opens but unfortunately the CD remains inside, as far as I can see it's jammed above the metal casing.
I've search everywhere for instructions for removing the drive as I'm pretty certain that this would solve it but alas no luck ..... which is where you guys come in.
I have had this laptop for just about a week and a half, and although last week it played "The Dark Knight" BluRay disc, it will not play any bluray at this point in time.
The Acer Arcade Deluxe program is apparently supposed to do that function, but it will not. I have updated the software for AAD a couple of times. I have tried reinstalling it, I have tried checking the driver for the multi-drive. All to no avail!
Right now the Device Manager calls the optical drive a CD-Rom. I do not know if it was a Windowes update that screwed things up, or what, but what is the point of buying a laptop with a blu-ray drive, when 10 days later it won't play a blu-ray disc?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy 5050 crashes XP every few minutes, maybe half hour sometimes with an 0x07 blue screen.
I have temporarily taken to booting ubuntu (llinux OS) off a USB pen drive and it works fine, however, i might well see the HDD and DVD drive in Ubuntu but its not long before they dissapear from the visibilty of the OS. Of course this would be a crash in XP but not under these circumstances.
I can hear that the hdd is running and the cd drive will open so its not a power issue or temps.
I think the mobo ide controller is falling over or connections associated with it.
I cannot identify the ide controller (if it is a seperate component to the mobo itself) or investigate problem further without some knowledge & ideas from experianced members here.
Even trying to take this notebook apart seemed difficult & I gave up after a few screws were out. Anyone got a strip down guide/service manual and more importantly some ideas on my fault.
At first I was thinking of maybe a dry joint on the HDD connection but that was before I ran Linux OS and discovered I was actually losing visibility of both IDE hardwares. Not just the HDD, and not losing power either.
what I'm looking for in terms of purchasing a new hard drive for this machine?
i.e. does it need to be a specific Acer hard drive for this model, or a compatible one, or can it be any hard drive of the right size?
Has anyone got a process and/or pictures of how to remove the DVD drive from an Aspire series notebook? Most other laptops ive seen are just a slider or single screw but seemingly not that on this model.
Ive even gone as far as removing all the screws on the underside but it still doesn't loosen the drive.
I want to remove it to clean and check another model drive to see if its a drive fault or not and if there is a fault replace.
I have had my acer laptop just over a year know and everything has been fine until a few months ago. All of a sudden my dvd drive stopped working which was a major problem as I routinely back up my hard drive as I use it for work. The warrenty has runout.

I was trying to replace a cracked screen and was having problems so tried to put the original one back in and order another one. However now when I power up the computer the front 2 lights - charging and lights come on but the hard drive doesnt even flicker nor does the wifi and the screen remains black. It doesnt even try to boot. SOmething else must have come loose or shorted I guess. Should I pull the laptop completely apart and check all connections now or what is likely to be the problem? Everything was working ok previously as I hooked the laptop with cracked screen up to a monitor and it worked perfectly before i started mucking about with the screen.

I have done some research and pretty much assume that the majority are universal. I would like to know if the product itself comes with a bezel or if I have to purchase one. View 9 Replies View RelatedI was given a laptop aspire v5-122p and the ALT+F12 for internal recovery is not working. The hard drive and partition seems corrupted and damaged. Windows 8 try to start but a message says there was something wrong and that it will try to fix fit but it restart and do the same in a loop. I scanned the hard drive with an application that let me run it from a usb bootable flash drive. The hard drive came with sector errors.
If i install a new hard drive, can i order an erecovery disc and install everything or do i have to do something special? i read somewhere that clean hard drives need to be prepared first with another set of tools provided by Acer. The tools provided in the link are in an ISO named "Format CD".
Has anyone noticed that Optical Drive Power Management occassionally stop working, i.e., pressing the eject button on your laptop, Windows does not detect your optical drive? Does anyone know how to get Windows to detect the drive, short of restarting?
(my OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 64. I am using Optical Drive Power Management for Windows Vista Home Premium 64 - I just installed the program in compatibility mode. Well I have ordered a dvd that I really need to use on my computer and it won't work at all... I looked in Device Manager and it shows "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA DEVICE" and "YPY EN81IZS SCSI CdRom Device" and they both say "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be currupted or missing."
I went to the Acer Europe website for 7520 [url] and I dont see DVDROM drivers under the 64bit column.
My high school-age son was working on an English paper when something fell off a shelf and whacked his Aspire 3680 right above the hard drive bay. It started clicking and finally crashed.
The computer won't run with the hard drive installed. It makes nasty clicking sounds trying to boot, and finally beeps and powers off. Without the hard drive, the laptop powers up and runs BIOS just fine.
We can buy a new hard drive, but it seems awful to pay Acer another $20 + $10 shipping for the Vista restore disk!
I'm using a Scandisk 8 gig flash drive for ready boost. When I boot the computer, it won't boot in to vista unless the flash drive is pulled out. I updated to bios 1.43.

Thinking of getting a new laptop around $1000, but also considering just getting a new 320gb hard drive for $100. What do you think i should do - new laptop or new hard drive.
