I was using my laptop one day (I was on Hotmail) and it just ground to a halt. I waited for about 45 mins but still nothing so I unplugged it and removed the battery. I recognise this may have not been the best way to deal with the problem. After that, I switched back on and it seemed to be booting up fine. After apparently loading and being ready to use, although the mouse/cursor would move around OK, it would not react when I tried to select something. It would occasionally put up the eggtimer as though something was happening but nothing ever did. Eventually it just goes black. I've tried alt, ctrl and delete as that's about as far as my technical knowledge goes but it didn't do anything.
My acre aspire 5510 notebook has got a problem I can not solve it.
- CPU usage is 98% - 100% and is hot while fan is working. when I press a key on the keyboard and hold down the key, the letter appears very late (after 6 or 7 seconds).so typing is impossible
- but at the same time when I use mouse the system is working normal and I don't have any problem regarding performance of the programs and the speed of the set.
When I shot down the computer it take a long time to be shouted down!
I am thinking of buying one if these soon from BestBuy. I have an Aspire 5003 and no problems with it. I will be getting this for 250 as I have a broken PDA with replacement plan and they no longer sell this model. I will probably buy it tomorrow or next weekend.
I've just reinstalled Windows XP on a TravelMate 5510, and almost everything went fine.
All the drivers has been downloaded from here.
Now i got a problem and seems i can't get rid of it.
Audio is not working, but i installed the drivers correctly. The program (AzMixerSel.exe) crashes everytime i run it. I don't know if having this .exe working would let me hear something, but that's an issue.
I installed this audio driver -->
Am i missing something important?
Funny thing is that i got a kind of Bluetooth Audio Controller since when i installed this ->Bluetooth Driver 5.1.2535 and Utilitiy 5.0.1.1500.zip
just got an Acer Extensa 5420-5687 laptop (used no warranty), added a new hdd and plugged in and I get nothing, the battery light does not light up, I swapped power supplies with my 5102wlmi and I still get nothing, no lights no nothing I have a feeling I know where this is going which might be the trash bin, but I thought I might ask if there is something I should be looking for. I have tried holding the power button without a battery and all that neat stuff. The battery charge light does not come on at all, its been plugged in for about an hour now and I get nothing.......
I don't know what happened, but my laptop's not working.
I was using my laptop as a desktop computer (no battery) when I accidentally switched the switch off. After switching it on, I tried to turn on my laptop and the first thing I noticed was the blank screen. Then the power turned off, and then turned on again. The fan is working, but nothing else is. I don't hear or notice any processing, so I'm pretty sure nothing's working right except for the fan and the lights indicating that it's on.
I tried to reset the laptop by disconnecting it from power and then turning it back on after 30 seconds - but no luck.
I just installed XP Pro on my Acer Extensa 4630Z and I installed all the drivers successfully but the wireless driver. I tried all the drivers from acer's support site [url] none of them work. I also tried what worked for Davoucci with same laptop but this driver also doesn't work for me
I installed Windows XP SP 2 without SATA and everything was running perfectly exept i was getting BSOD from time to time . Recently (one month ago) i installed Windows 7 .
Performance in ordinary work and in programs is now excellent but...... There is another side of the medal. PC games . When i intsalled ACER graphicks drivers i runned my games with stuttering . Also with ATI drivers(9.12) modded by Mobility driver threre is no stuttering but i can play only in low resoluitions like 800 600, 640 480 etc. What is the problem ? I really dont like XP and i like Windows 7.
Ever since I bought this laptop I've had an issue of it shutting itself down. Almost always while watching youtube videos. I found out about the handy little tool called coretemp and I see my processors running about 68+ nearly all the time. When I have websites loaded that have flash animations, ads, videos (youtube), it only gets hotter and hotter. It nearly always reaches 90+ (Celsius) and then shuts down.
I read about it needing a bios update for many people who say they have the problem with the laptop screen going black, but I think mine is heat related.
My laptop runs around 68 when idle and when busy it gets hot. Right now I have Google Chrome open with two tabs, one is this webpage and the other is gmail and its running at 75 celsius. Performance tab in task manager says it has a processor load of only 1%.
I keep a watch on the temperature and as long as I start closing programs and windows when it reaches around 80 it will start to cool down. So as long as I can keep an eye on it the laptop will run fine for days with no problems. If I forget to check and it gets too hot it'll shut down. I'll check the logs and sure enough the last few lines of the last log file will look something like this ...
Why does the fan run so damn much? I know that the bottom of the laptop does not get hot like Compaq and Sony, but it is damn annoying. There seems to be two speeds, one that is low and runs silently, and the high...this is the problem.
I just bought 2x2gb ram from my Acer Extensa 5610 and my Windows 7 x64 can see it right, but only use 3gb. Resource monitor says the other 1gb is Hardware reserved. In the Bios theres an info saying extended memory 3gb. Is that what the problem is? coz its not something I can set in this version of bios.
Do i have to upgrade my bios? if so, to what version? The manual clearly says i can upgrade to 4gb. (extensa 5610 has intel 945 chipset)
Have you guys heard about Acer's Extensa line of products? Well, so far I've just seen them in Acer sites from Asia, and I was wondering how many people actually use them already.
Another thing, I was also looking for someone who particularly owns an Acer Extensa 4630G--the most recent budget one (I think) with Intel C2D T5800, ~4GB 667MHz RAM, I think with 320GB Harddrive, and ~nVidia 9300M GS~ (256MB dedicated)
For people who own this kind of notebook (or those with the 4630ZG, the one with the Pentium Dual Core instead of C2D), how does the notebook handle? Does it heat up easily? Does it perform well with relatively recent games/3D modelling applications etc.?
I just purchased a acer extensa 4630Z and it has vista home premium on it. I want to downgrade it to xp, but when i put the a oem xp cd in while the system is booting up it preloads all the xp files but then get a blue screen with error 0x0000007b. How can I get a xp cd that will support this laptop?
I know you can use nlite to make a custom xp cd but I cant seem to find the right drivers to do so. I seen some people add slipstream drivers for aspires but this is different.
I got this laptop about 2 months ago from best buy here in canada. It came with windows vista. The first thing i did when i got home was format my hard drive and installed windows xp pro.
All is well but I cant get my bluetooth working. the blue light does not come on at all and when i let the launch manager load with windows and try to use the bluetooth it says no device found.
I have recently bought a new Acer Extensa 4220, I am wanting to upgrade it by installing another 512 MB ram card into it. Only problem is i cant figure out how to open the back up.
i find in this web more and very good information about notebooks, with this information can i upgrade the CPU of my Acer 5715Z from a T2370 to a T7500, and i know this chipset 965 can i ugprade more, but know i have a very good offer to buy a cheap notebook Acer Extensa 5230 with a Celeron M575, and put in this one my T7500 to upgrade this bad cpu celeron.
But, there's always a but, i search information in the web and i think this chipset is not compatible to upgrade a good CPU (not Celeron).
This is the information about notebook:

And this about chipset (GL40), look at information about only CPU's Celeron
I have an Acer extensa 5220 laptop, which suddenly decided this morning that it wont turn on any more! It was working perfectly fine, has good anti-virus, etc., and worked fine an hour before but now when it's turned on, the power button goes green and nothing else happens. It's not been dropped or banged, was not plugged into the mains at the time (but can that rule out a surge the last time it was plugged in?)There is not even a flicker on the screen, the fan doesn't come on, but I think the hard-drive hums. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with it?
I've acquired my daughters old acer extensa 5620 but the motherboard is apparently kaput. I can't find a replacement anywhere, so, does know anyone of a different model that will fit this chassis?
i bought 5635G like 3 months ago..and ever since i been having a same problem...everytime i try to play some game it freezes and i have to hard reset it.
But here is the weird part that only happens when laptop is running on AC power (when it's plugged in) however when i unplug it i can play normally for as long as battery lasts.
I got an Acer Extensa 5420 a few months ago refurbished and at first everything seemed fine. A month or so later I noticed that the line out had a small crack in the middle of the green ring.. a little annoying but my headphones seemed to work fine so I just ignored it. After using the line out for a few months it's become more and more faulty. Now, when I plug in headphones no sound comes out, it doesn't even recognize anything is plugged in unless I have it turned at the exact right angle. I know the audio jack is just screwed up, but what options do I have to fix this problem?
I have the extensa 4420, today I was in class and I was just typing notes and I noticed that my cooling fan was quite noticable so I turned the fan always on function to "off" and the fan turned off and it was nice and quiet. i watched the temps hover around 38 but when the temps hit 41 (according to NHC) the fan kicked in at a good low speed. the NHC was setting the CPU to stay at 800mhz per core so I was wondering if that is a good temp? I have experience in using thermal paste, would that help lower the temps enough to stay under 41 degrees?
My wife dropped her Extensa 4620z. It's working fine, but it broke the pin inside the yellow power connector jack. If I could get to it, I could epoxy the pin in place and perhaps solder the jack to the mobo. But, I can't get the freaking thing open! I removed all the screws and removed the lower panel, but I have no idea how to get the laptop open. how to disassemble the laptop
I got this laptop for my father-in-law. He's a lite user, and XP was a better choice (he's not quick to adapt to new things and he doesn't need to re-learn on Vista)
Anyhow, the 4620 was what we picked out.
Current config:
Core2Duo T5600 1GB RAM (1 stick of 1gb/PC5300 DDR2)
Desired Config:
Add 1GB Ram (second stick of 1GB/PC5300)
I opened the bottom of the case and found the 1 stick. It is in a bay labeled "DIMM 1"
All the research I can find says there's a second DIMM slot (DIMM 2) but I cannot locate where this on the laptop.
I have removed the HDD, and the slot is not below it. I have (painfully) removed the keyboard, thinking the slot would possibly be there (like it is on Dell units)... and there is nothing under the keyboard either.
The Acer manuals don't have anything about self-maintenance/support, so now I'm here.
Reading through, I'm sure someone else has done this, and maybe it's so obvious to everyone else no one has explicitly said "oh, by the way, to get to DIMM 2, it's _here_"
I noticed that if I have to shut it down by turning the power off directly from the power switch (without shutting down Vista first), some problems arise.
The next time you try to boot the laptop after doing an "emergency shut down" like that, the laptop starts making a very loud beeping noise and it's very hard to boot it (eventually it will boot, though). My friend said he doesn't have problems like this even if he has to turn off the power by pressing the power button for 4 secs.
Recently I bought new Acer Extensa 5630 with 4GB & 320 GB Hard disk.I installed Windows XP os ,on mycomputer properties, it is showing 3GB of RAM Size,I contacted the dealer who sold the laptop and he is telling 4gb is not supported for Windows XP.SO I changed the OS to VIsta home Basic stil it is showing 3GB instead of 4GB.
formatted C installed XP Pro and all Acer drivers, worked fine for a week, now when I try to boot it only comes on for a short time with no start up screen showing, shuts off on AC or DC
