how to open up a Acer Aspire 5050. My right mouse button is constantly being pushed down, i've disabled it through the drivers but i would like the laptop to be fully functional. I was wondering why this could be happening.
I'm looking for a guide so i can investigate! Do you think it would be easy to repair? Or would i just need to replace the board underneath the buttons? The left click and the scroll buttons did work properly before this happened. Now only the left click works.
A freinds Acer 5050 won't power up. He's has asked me to look at it. When tha AC power is connected there is still no indication of power no lights, No power.
I have tried all the followingRemoved battery & AC power held down start button for 15,20 & 30 seconds and retried
Tried several AC power supplies
Removed memory & Swopped around memory,Swopped memory
I've just bought 4gb (2x2gb) of RAM from Crucial, but I'm sure that's not nearly enough, so I come to you, notebook gurus.
First things first, my battery is getting old and beginning to fail. I used to max it out on a full charge at 2 hours, but now it's down to about 45 minutes from a full charge using every battery-saving technique I can (while still keeping wireless access available). I think a new battery is in order, but I want to know if I'm stuck with generic replacement batteries, or if any of you can direct me to a nice longer-life one, like a compatible 9-cell? I like to move around my house and library a lot, so battery life is most important.
Secondly, CPU. My model is stuck with a MK-36 2.0ghz CPU (90nm). Now I know this uses the S1 socket that a lot of dual core CPU's use, so I was wondering if it would just be a simple case of updating the BIOS, then switching out for a TL-64 CPU (Also 90nm) or similar. Is this at all possible, I'm wondering? Or am I stuck with a single-core? I've looked at this thread (linked from these forums), but that looks to be going from a dual core already.
Thirdly and lastly, I was looking at this thread linked from here (can't re-find it though) talking about upgrading the GPU, also talking about MXM. My current GPU is an ATI Radeon Xpress 1100. Is the Aspire 5050's GPU upgradeable at all? I have built all my computers in the past, but I admit I have never tinkered with a notebook before (despite having the necessary tools). Is it possible that I'd be able to shove a better GPU in there?
If there's anything I'm leaving out that you can think might be worth upgrading I'm all ears. My aim is to have the fastest Aspire 5050 I can.
I recently got a Aspire 5050-3371. I put XP Pro on it and loaded all the drivers.
Notebook runs well. I mainly use it to get online. The fan is constantly going on and off. The core idle temp is usually about 50 C. Fan kicks on about 53 C. I installed rightmark cpu clock and even limiting the cpu to 800mhz and lowering the voltage to just above what makes computer unstable has little effect. Speedfan does not see my fan.
I've opened it up and blown it out. It has an AMD Turion 64 2.0 ghz. The fan is getting very annoying.
I'm having some problems with my Acer Aspire 5050 AMD Turion 64 2.0 GHz running Windows Vista Home Basic
After using it for a little over a year it suddenly has a CPU load around 75 - 90%, and the mouse is not reacting very well. Besides that, it's almost impossible to use to keyboard. Thinking it might be some sort of virus, I checked for that. I found nothing.
I tried to do a erecovery of the machine, but it didn't help! Now i tried formatting the partition and installed XP instead. But still: it didn't help. the problems is still there.
I found that if i start in fail safe mode, the notebook's working. both mouse , keyboard and cpu load.
I am really baffled about about what's the cause of all my problems. I'm thinking it might be the BIOS that's f***** up, but i'm not shure about it.
I'm trying to open the display to change the lcd on my aspire 5050, but I can't get the cover off around the top under the built in webcam, and don't want to break it. Does anyone have a service manual or can guide me on what I need to do to get the cover off around this area?
I have an old acer aspire 5050-3785 With a turion processor @2.2ghz with 1.5GB DDR2 SDRAM, a ATI radeon Mobility x1100 GPU (integrated) and an 80GB Hard Drive.
I would like to know if i could upgrade the processor to and AMD athlon X2 or something better than the 1 core turion that i have. I know that the ram is simply Plug and Play because I replaced one of the original 512MB RAM chips with a 1.0GB ram Chip. But I am wondering if i could change out the CPU so that when i fix it completely (the charging dongle burnt out) I could buy a CPU to replace it because the Processor just ran way too hot.
I got my Acer Aspire 5050 by September 2007 and filled it with many applications already until I found that its performance was depressing. Then I decided to format my computer and re-install the Windows.
After re-install everything, I just found out that I got a separated CD for the wireless adapter (Atheros AR5007EG + Realtek Ethernet) from the reseller. But I already installed the driver from the original Acer CD.
But it appears that the wireless doesn't work properly as the figures for Received/ Sent packet data are very extreme (this morning I tried and they were 126/ 6) <=- is this a problem? It also got timed out when I tried to connect to my home server, which is located just a staircase away, from my room.
When I go online downstairs, putting my laptop 2 metres from the router, the connection is going just fine.
I tred to install the driver from the separated CD and even searched for the newest update of the device on the internet, but both didn't really help. I got good connection only after I installed the drivers. But after I turned off the laptop for several hours, it couldn't connect to the internet just as before.
I have a acer aspire 5050 laptop/notebook and everytime I try to watch a video on youtube or just search the internet, it's slow and the words "low disk space" pops up. I click the button that is suppose to clean the files but when it's done the words "low disk space" pops up again. Can you help me with this problem?
I've opened the my computer and I see Acer (C) It has 0% free space. Underneath acer (C) it says 8.35 MB free of 33.5 GB. I also see Data (D) underneath data d I see 33.1 GB free of 33.2 GB. The last thing I see is something that says unspecified, and underneath it it says DVD RW Drive (E). I don't know what to do next.
My 5050 crashes XP every few minutes, maybe half hour sometimes with an 0x07 blue screen.
I have temporarily taken to booting ubuntu (llinux OS) off a USB pen drive and it works fine, however, i might well see the HDD and DVD drive in Ubuntu but its not long before they dissapear from the visibilty of the OS. Of course this would be a crash in XP but not under these circumstances.
I can hear that the hdd is running and the cd drive will open so its not a power issue or temps.
I think the mobo ide controller is falling over or connections associated with it.
I cannot identify the ide controller (if it is a seperate component to the mobo itself) or investigate problem further without some knowledge & ideas from experianced members here.
Even trying to take this notebook apart seemed difficult & I gave up after a few screws were out. Anyone got a strip down guide/service manual and more importantly some ideas on my fault.
At first I was thinking of maybe a dry joint on the HDD connection but that was before I ran Linux OS and discovered I was actually losing visibility of both IDE hardwares. Not just the HDD, and not losing power either.
My 5750 wont boot past the acer logo screen which just keeps opening and closing. F2 wont work. One time I got to the safe mode screen by hitting F8 but now that is not engaging either. I removed the RAM and cleaned them well. I also tried removing any left over power static by pressing power for about a minute. I do not have any cds for this machine since it was given to me used and it has worked fine for months until i recently removed a virus called DOS....
New Acer Aspire 5 laptop with Windows 7 on it. Up to now I've used IBM/Lenovo laptops with a track point on the keyboard, so I'm trying to figure out how the trackpad works. How to right click on the trackpad?
I have an Aspire V3 which has become very crippled. As the laptop was not in my care before now, I had tried to use the Restore Factory Settings option in the Recovery Management tool, however when I click the button to restore, nothing happens.
I have tried running windows 8 in safe mode as well as pressing alt-f10 on start up. Nothing seems to be working. Is there any way I can reset this short of using a pre-made recovery disc?

I just bought an Acer Aspire D255E with a cracked display. I tested it and it worked fine. Replaced the display with a brand new one, and the result is that it comes on, displays the opening screen, briefly flashes what looks like the screen you get when you shut down abnormally, then powers down. It will also power down in about the same time if I F2 into the BIOS.
I have changed the Windows power settings so that when I close the lid it goes into hibernate mode. However, when I open the lid it does not start the laptop and restore from hibernation. I have to open the lid and press the power-on button and then it restores from hibernation.
I have a much cheaper Toshiba Laptop that just automatically starts and restores from hibernation when I open the lid. As far as I recall there were no special settings that I changed in order for the Toshiba to work like that, just the setting in the Windows power option that permits hibernation when closing the lid. The Toshiba run Windows 8.0.
Does this model Acer have this feature? If so, how do I set it up to work?
I bought two of these laptops (Acer E5-471P CI3 4GB 500GB 14 Inch Touch Laptop - Black. - [URL] .... as Christmas presents.
Both are having issues with the trackpad where it will randomly freeze or the pointer will disappear. At first my mother thought it was just being slow and freezing all the time. I had a look and found that the touch screen worked fine when the mouse froze or disappeared. Now, immediately I assumed it to be a driver issue, so I updated the trackpad driver.
I can't find any info on this and even though I bought the week before christmas ACER are saying my warrenty has run out and I don't have the time to find a scanner to scan my receipt. I am a day or two away from returning this laptop if no solution can be found.
This freezing happens ALOT, to the point my mother is using the 4 year old dusty laptop with missing keys. I assume it's something to do with the touchscreen and the trackpad interfering with one another.
I have purchased a DVD Writer to replace the DVD-ROM the laptop came with. With some of my old laptops, these drives were held by one screw or a spring loaded lock, but this does not seem to be the case with the Acer.
which screws in which order need to be taken out to replace the drive?
how to replace the keyboard? My daughter spilled spaghetti on the keyboard and some of the keys doesn't work anymore . If anybody knows how to replace it with photos and instructions I would appreciate it a lot.
After changing from XP to Ubuntu 14.04 LTS I found the netbook a tad slow. It has the original configuration with ½ GB fixed ram plus ½ GB removeable. I tried to insert a 2 GB DDR2 1.8V but the machine would not boot. What is the max GB I can use?
i have an Acer aspire 5100 with dual core 1.6 cpu (laptop not working) and an Acer aspire 5100 single core 2.0ghz cpu (working), the question is can i put the dual core straight into the single core without any problems also would it be worth doing it?
Here is a link to flickr stream of Upgrade, [url] I made a video of it and once thru editing will post it...One thing in the photo stream you must undo all screws on the back, also on the top there are three hidden screws under the middle of the monitor covered with black stickers, just pierce with cross head...Also you need to run a rather large screwdriver down the right side of the body and bottom each side of the pad to release the plastic snaps ps familiarize yourself with ribbon fastener technology the tan fitting moves back then the ribbon comes out vice versa Please post success with Processor types!
just got my 1410 SU2300 machine. I did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x64 and installed the updated Intel drivers for video and chipset from the Timeline Tweaks thread (all the others were from Windows Update). With the Win7 Home Premium that came with the unit, I was able to come out of suspend automatically when opening the lid.
Now, I have to press the power button to get the machine out of suspend. Could it be one of the power management drivers causing this problem? Is there a solution to it, or am I stuck like this?
The time has come, I have to do something with my Travelmate 8101. Pentium M 730 1,6GHz seems a bit slow, as I can get a Pentium M 770 2,13GHz relatively cheap. The problem is, I can't seem to get it open! Does anybody have any experience with opening/modifying the TM 8100?
And also, how big a difference would the new processor do compared to the old one? I'm also considering expanding the memory from 1GB to 2GB.
I have a 1 year old Inspiron 5050 that does not boot.
It's completely dead With the battery in. No led on front. When I remove the battery and power up it starts to boot , shows the dell screen , beeps once then dies.
I have to remove the power cord to get it to reboot and it does the same again , one beep then nothing.
I've been trying to follow various vague guides on how to replace Acer screens. The closest guide on this forum is for the 6930 but the layout is quite different once you open them up. I have so far removed the speaker cover and detached the screen from the main laptop. I have also un-popped the screen bezel but am now stuck. The proplem is that as far as I can see, I need to get the whole bezel off in order to accesss the LCD fittings but I can't because it's catching on the hinges (and the small circuit board for the AC in socket) which protude from the screen. How do you remove the bezel? It looks like it should slide up away from the hinges but mine is getting caught everytime. What have I missed?
