It's been a long time since I've used my Acer, been using my m5550 all the time (see sig for specs)
However, I'd like to try out the Acer w/ 4 gigs of RAM. Anyone up on acer stuff know if there is a BIOS update yet that will allow this? I know that with a 32 bit OS, that Windows will only "see" 3 gigs of ram, but with the price of 4 gigs now hovering at only 200 bucks, I'd like to try this anyway.
my old travelmate 8104's LCD started having problems few months ago. First the colors were corrupted and shifting the screen slighty to a different position helped. After a while the problem got worse; there's no real picture, just pixel-garbage. Shifting the screen still has an effect to the image, but no real picture appears.
I have the service manual and I'm planning to disassembly the laptop and I'd appreciate any advice where to find the problem. Broken cable or bad connectors?
I currently have Vista x64 with 3 gigs of RAM. Obviously part of my reason for upgrading was to install more RAM. Should I go with 4 gigs meaning I only buy one 2 gig stick or go with 6 and buy a single 4 gig stick? Does the difference between dual channel matter if I go with 6 or will it just be more cost affective and faster to go with 4?

Does that mean that the older 1330s are capable of six gigs or have they made some kind of update?
can handle 8 gigs of RAM, however most manufactures only say they can handle 4. Is the solely because 4 gig SODIMMs didn't exist at the time it was released? Anyway, I am looking for a yes/no/maybe as to if my AR670 CTO with the Intel T7800 (not sure if that makes any difference) will recognize 8 gigs of ram. I am running a 64bit OS so I can make use of it. Why I want 8 gigs is for virtual machines... I am soon to be installing 2 500gb hdds into it.

I was messing around with my laptop and the various thermal monitoring programs it has while searching the net why the hell my by-core temps always gets stuck at startup. I kept reading on BIOS, BIOS, BIOS. So I went to acer.com.sg for hopes that a newer 1.25 or so BIOS would be available for my Ciel Noir.
Surprise surprise, they have only the 1.16 (came with my laptop when it was new) and the 1.23 BIOS (mine was presently 1.24, and they don't have it). I downloaded it anyway, and checked the readme. I noticed that the flash utility .exe was named JALA0123.exe and then I noticed through HWMonitor 1.14 that my motherboard was marked JALA0 so hmm...this prompted me to flash the BIOS.
Booted up, got into Windows, fired up HWMonitor and what do you know, now it's working!! HWMonitor reads a different TJMax though, so I adjusted it to be the same as CoreTemp's and Everest, and now it's showing (I hope) correct temps.
Now my question is this: Why does the BIOS that comes from Acer directly i.e. after purchase or repair makes the sensors not work? And why are these BIOSes not available online? Is it possible that they use BIOSes that are for different laptop models, hence rendering the addresses for the thermal monitors different from the actual ones? (I read up that thermal sensors depended on the correct addresses, too.)
There are a lot of BIOS MOD request forums out there but most of them only specialize in SLIC modification. Our job is to unlock hidden menu in the BIOS. We don't want to use "specialize" word here but we know the "how" to get the job done. Based on the old thread Acer Laptop with Phoenix BIOS: Enable Virtualization, we decided to open new thread which specifically deals with BIOS MOD requests.
Other BIOS modder (bob12x, Darkening & others) and I will help you to unlock hidden menu(s) such as Intel Virtualization Menu and Intel Speedstep Technology.............
I've got a T7500 that I want to drop in my Aspire 4315. The Chip replacement is simple enough, but Acer unwilling to advise me what Bios I will need to upgrade to, even though they offer bios upgrades on their website.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI require some help on repairing a bad bios flash for this laptop. The problem started after clearing the bios from with in windows and then using acer esettings to create another password which would save the bios but it seems it did not save properly and resulted in a bad flash.
The laptop no longer boots up, it just hangs with a black screen.
I have downloaded the updated bios file from acer web page and used various methods for other acer models which use a usb floppy with the crisis recovey disk and rename 114.rom bios file to bios.wph but cant seem to trigger the laptop into booting from the floppy using win+b/esc and fn+b/esc.
I have also tried putting the bios file onto a cd with various different file names but again it doesnt want to boot from cd either.
I cannot find any documentation on what it does.
The bios I had when I first got my 5930G was 1.21.
There are 1.22 and 1.23 bioses available.
Is there any documentation online on what exactly either of those newer versions support/do?

I've refreshed my bios to 1.07 and I have tried 1.06 and 1.10.
I am not sure if they are official release version, but since I've refreshed my bios with these versions, my computer fails.
In the past, I could use recovery DVD to restore my system, and audio drive work fine, very high quality. Now it's gone, even I use recovery DVD, my audio drive does not works fine.
It sounds like a realtek HD public drive (low sound quality), and I cannot use plug-in microphone when 5.1 Dolby effect opened.
I just bought a T7500 processor to upgrade my Aspire 5315. I understand that a bios upgrade should be performed before replacing the cpu. I read about some problems with bios version 1.34 and some went back to 1.33 and there is a new bios 1.43 now.

I was trying to play a video and the computer froze. I waited several minutes and nothing responded. I finally had to hold the power button to shut it down. Now it will not go to the bios screen and the screen shows a bit of brightening but does not go anywhere.
I've googled for a solution and there are several pieces of possible solutions I have found but as is too often the case, there were no follow up answers to make the posts helpful or, the answers came tantalizingly close like the following for a similar problem with an acer aspire 5315:
"1. first download the attached zip file and unzip it.
2. burn the extracted disc image to disc using nero.
3. place the newly burned cd into your laptop cd drive tray
4. remove the battery and power cord.
5. press and hold FN and ESC keep pressed and insert power cord and then press the power on button
6. your notebook should power up but without any display.
7. you should see the cd/dvd drive activity light blinking as it reads from the recovery disc.
8. if all is well your laptop should power itself down after about 2 minutes
9. once it has powered down remove the power cord and wait about five minutes.
10. finally insert your battery and power cord and power up your laptop in the normal way............

View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my aspire 3623 from a M370 to a M740. The bios needs to be upgraded to operate speedstep of the new cpu. Currently it runs at 1.3 instead of the 1.7 it's supposed to. At bootup it says 1.733 gh but in EVEREST it says it's running 1.296gh. I can't find on the ACER site where to get the BIOS upgrade download. Is there a 3rd party location anyone knows about?

On Sunday evening after it coming out of sleep mode it asked me for a password? as I haven't set one and couldn't supply it with what it wanted it comes up with the message System Disabled ( 01576 ) anyone with the same problem or is there a default acer password.
I cannot access anything or boot windows as the first thing it does on start up is ask for this password.

This one comes complete with 32 & 64Bit Windows Flasher and on my machine has fixed shutdown issue and cinedash issue. The only thing I noticed when updating is it took 4 to 5 minutes to complete. "NO" SLIC 2.1 or VT Support.

I was going to try running in vista compability mode or installing xp virtual machine, but I wanted to run it by you guys first.
Updating BIOS is not something to be taken lightly. It can birck your machine easily.

My asus desktop motherboard allows you to use asus ez flash utility from within the bios and flash from usb or your hdd. I wish this was the case here but I can see nothing of the sort.
I really didnt want to flash from within windows in the first place anyway, but I saw no other way. I'm supirsed there is no readme files or anything that came along with the file. And I cant see documentation on the acer website either. Just a link to the bios zipped with no support
I am currently runing bios 3805. The one that came with my laptop. I have had it for 2 years now and Im the process of trying to upgrade some things on it.
I found a BIOS v.3239 on the Acer.com (Pan America) driver website. However I don't know if it's for Vista or still XP, the website doesn't specify like the acer europe site did, however that BIOS version is 3234.
So, does anyone know about the Panam acer site with the BIOS v.3239 for vista (or windows7)?
And no I don't need my BIOS updated from the 3234 version, just curious.

View 7 Replies View Relatedim trying to update my BIOS on my 8930G from 1.10 to 1.13 (or maybe even 1.14). Im only doing this as id like to enable VT but the only info i can find is related to 1.13.
Now ive downloaded the BIOS package from Acer and have tried to run the Insyde flash utility (x64 on Win7) but it wont install. After a few seconds it comes up with;
'BIOS not for your notebook'
In the Insyde application window i can can see the following info;
Current BIOS ID - 8930 & Version V1.13
New BIOS ID - KM2/TT2 & Version V1.14
I had the latest 1.3508 BIOS, Vista Ultimate 64-bit installed on my Aspire 5570, throw in new 2x2Gb 667Mhz RAM, yet BIOS and Vista only shows 3062Mb of available physical memory instead of 4096Mb. But CPUz dump file below did show what i exactly hope for....
