View 7 Replies2 days ago, I was using my Aspire 5720Z and when I opened it after closing it, half the screen was filled with weird coloured lines. I tried restarting it and even restoring it back to the factory default but that didn't help at all.

Will there ever be a 14" with Centrino 2?
i just built an hd antenna and i was scanning for new channels and it was picking up some awesome channels and then i tripped over the cord and busted that little adapter that converts a normal coax cable to the mini one that plugs into the tv tuner.
anyone know the part number? I've looked everywhere online and can only find the partnumber for the antenna, not the adapter by itself. is this mini plug a standard? i even chatted with hp parts department and they were of no help.
I refreshed my colour settings under 'nVidia control panel' and now my colours look crap. Can someone plz give me your personal prefered percentage numbers of these following slide bars in 'Desktop Colour Settings'.
Brightness: %
Digital Vibrance: %
Contrast: %
Image Sharpening: %
Gamma: %
I know most you guys have LCD monitors, but just to be sure i'd like it in good colour for an LCD...
Background:
A few days ago i bought an Acer 7730 laptop with Windows Vista pre-installed and no disks. After initial hesitation i have decided to keep vista and not downgrade to XP. After all there will be more service packs and tweaking should speed it up lots anyway.
However, i really want to get rid of the three partitions on the hard drive. There is only one physical hard drive but there are three partitions; a hidden 10GB one (EISA configuration) which from what i have gathered is now obsolete, a C: partition 111.44GB and a D: partition 111.44GB. There is no need to split a drive into several partitions now that we have the NTFS file system (unless you are using multiple operating systems of course - but i am not) so this is really annoying me.
I have made the 2 recovery DVD and the 1 applications/drivers DVD. I have an old WinXP disk that i can use to format the laptop if required.
Question:
Using the recovery disks (which i'm assuming contain a copy of my bought OEM Vista that was pre-installed on the laptop), can i delete the partitions, format the hard drive and install Vista onto a single c: partition?
I've done this exact process before with WinXP hundreds of times but i'm not sure whether i can do the same for Vista with just the 3 DVD mentioned...
I have a wireless network setup between my desktop w/xp pro an my laptop w/vista home preminum Acer 5570Z.
My laptop can open drives & folders on my desktop, but my desktop can't open drives or folders on my laptop it says I don't have permission. I fixed this once before but can't remember what I did.
There does not seem to be any buttons anywhere on the computer that start the webcam recording. I have an acer with vista.

I reinstall windows 3 times and the same problem.
I have attached a print screen....
Firstly I apologize if this has been asked earlier, but I couldn't find an answer to my question. I have a 1530 on order. The OS will be Vista Premium x86. There are 2 things I need to do-
1. Upgrade the HD from a 5400 to a 7200, I have the HD.
2. Install Windows Vista Business - I have an original retail version, and I absolutely need this.
I have the Vista Business Retail DVD. What I want to do is have Windows and the dell partitions configured exactly as they came with the original computer, only with Vista Business, and on the new hard disk. I don't want to alter Media Direct, or delete the restoration partition. Everything should be the same except the Windows Versio
I've found most of the drivers for xp64bit but i read that tuba speaker doesn't work well (even if you install the corrent drivers from acer) and that's very dissapointing...
View 10 Replies View RelatedI am in the process of performing a much needed system recovery of my Acer Apsire 7720. Ideally I would like a fresh install of Vista Ultimate without all of the unneeded software added during the recovery process.
I purchased a retail copy of Vista Ultimate a year ago for my desktop but am wondering if I can perform a clean install of Vista retail on my laptop but using the OEM serial number on the bottom of the Aspire unit and successfullly activate without issues.
I consider installing XP instead Vista (no Vista drivers for my HP scanner).
Where can I find XP versions of ACER software (Acer Empowering technology, AcereAudio management, AcereRocovery Management etc.) for 8930G notebook as well as all necessary drivers?
Are there any sites where all this stuff is grouped according to the specific notebook model?
I've heard that the 32bit Vista is limited to only 3Gb of RAM. I've got the 8930G and it's installed with 4Gb of RAM. The system detects the 4Gb. My question how can have the 32Bit Vista detect the 4Gb in the Task Manager without changing to Vista 64Bit?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm just bought an Acer Aspire 6930G and here's how my partitions look now:
Now I want to divide the partition C: into 3 partitions as following:
1.Windows Vista (The Current One and must stay as it is now)
2.Windows XP (Want to install it and use it as my 2nd OS)
3.Accessories (Just Some Files)
I've already tried shrinking them but failed as there's already 4 partitions exist in my HD! So my questions is how can I create the partitions as the way I want it?
I Haven't made backup dvd's yet so the current windows musn't be harmed and New partition should allow me to install new windows (XP) and use it as my 2nd OS
I have an Acer 6920G with tons of problems so I wanted to reinstall vista. The thing is that a Vista installation CD didn't come with it, just a CD key on the label. And I didn't create a backup of the system.
In Acer Empowering Technology there's an option called "Restore factory defaults" which didn't work. When I click it, it warns me that all data will be lost and that I have to restart the pc. I click Yes then the notebook restart but nothing happens, it just boot Vista like it usually would.
My question is: is it legal to download Vista and use the CD key on the label?
A few of my problems are
-BSOD when i launch games (sometimes)
-Random music start playing even though I have no music player up, not even in processes. this is the weirdest bug I've ever seen. It starts playing a random song for like 10 seconds then stop.
-Slow system, I just feel like a fresh installation would fix everything.
Just for information, the SP2 for Vista is starting to come out in MS updates.
I have ran it for about a week and no issues todate other than the visual volume indicator (green bar) is no longer there when adjusting volume.
Its also about a 500MB download.
I have problem with my Acer Aspire 8920G,
I got : Bootmgr is missing press Alt+ctrl for restart, tried few time but not working!
cause that i need windows vista ultimate oem installation cd for fix it / repair/ reinstall. when i bought it, unfortunately did not come with windosw vista installing cd, so anybody know solution and where i get it?
As you know the default OS of Acer 1410 is Windows XP, and the battery life is about 6 hours; if I install Windows Vista or Windows 7, how much it will affect my battery life?

If not I assume I can install my XP on this machine?
I have an Acer aspire 4315. When I switch on I get as far as the windows start up screen and then the screen goes blank and starts windows again. It I then get a screen come up asking me if I want to launch start up repair or start windows normally.
I have tried the start up repair and it says it cannot repair automatically. I have also tried to start in Safe mode but get the same result as above.
I've got a 320gb Seagate Freeagent Go external hard drive which I need to transfer data from onto my Acer 6920.
All starts well with transfer speeds of around 30mb/s, the speeds then drop to around 10mb/s and more often than not the whole transfer freezes and just hangs no matter what size file I'm transfering. I've got over 200gb I need transfered but it just won't do it, even in small chunks of data.
Am going to try it on XP in work but could it be a Vista problem and would updating my Intel Matrix Storage driver help?
I had the latest 1.3508 BIOS, Vista Ultimate 64-bit installed on my Aspire 5570, throw in new 2x2Gb 667Mhz RAM, yet BIOS and Vista only shows 3062Mb of available physical memory instead of 4096Mb. But CPUz dump file below did show what i exactly hope for....

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've just got an Aspire 7735z, which came with Vista. I plan to use the machine for music software. Another machine I got a while back also had Vista and I had problems getting the software to work, so I eventually gave up and installed XP. Since then it's been working perfectly.
I planned to do the same with my 7735, but I get the BSOD when I boot with the XP disc.
The research I've done (and understand) suggests that I need the SATA drivers on the XP disc. I've spent a long time trying to find SATA drivers for the 7735z but I'm more confused than ever.
Would an 18 month old Acer 3690 that shipped with VISTA have the option in ERecovery to reinstall the whole OS from the hidden service partition. I know XP versions do, what about Vista ?
haven't got the notebook here... when I upgraded XP to Vista I remember that ERecovery at the time wasn't supported... wouldn't work with NFTS or something according to Acer.
Well, after I install Windows Seven/Vista 64bit, what softwares do I need to download and install?
I have the Application and Drivers DVD with me but I heard that was not enough.
I downloaded the Windows 7 RC x64 from microsoft but it didn't mention about the version of Windows 7 RC x64(ultimate, home premium, business)?
If I do a back-up of my current Windows(vista x86), how do I use the back-up(in order to revert back to Vista x86)?
In addition, would my back-up gives back all the softwares I installed?
since receiving my new Acer 7720-6604 (Cdn) a week ago, I am a firm believer. I cant believe it, the new Acer with 3G's of DDR2 RAM is even slower than my 5 year old Toshiba Satellite 2.8Gz Celery with 768MB of memory. It opens sites faster. It boots faster!
The only changes I have made to the new Acer so far was to uninstall the demo Nortons and have installed AVG free and SpywareBlaster. Also, I have disable Aero
I thought it might be AVG and SpywareBlaster slowing it down so tried it with both uninstalled and no change. Re-installed them
I ran across a MS suggestion using "Ready Boost" in which you utilize a 1G or larger thumbdrive to use as a cache. Possibly a very slight increase, so small I really cant say.
As the new Acer has a Geforce 8600M GT GPU and a T8100 Core 2 Duo processor, it cant be the hardware. The two drives are both WD 5400rpm so its really not them as I dont believe that 7200s would make that big a diff.
I am sorely tempted to utilize the second HDD for an XP install (just that it will be another $100 or so layout) Hoping that the SP1 will sort this garbage out.
I've just noticed that there is an update on Vista 32 on Acer ftp site, here.
What's this for ? I don't want to download it unless I don't get more info.
