View 4 RepliesI have an acer Travelmate 4070 that will not boot. It is out of warranty so I am trying to trouble shoot. When I turn on the power the cpu fan starts and the harddrive seems to start, then the fan stops and no more sounds from the hard drive. The harddrive light stays on. Does anyone know where to start. I am guessing it is the motherboard, but could just be the hard drive.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was having issues with my laptop(keyboard stopped working, mouse jerky, trouble booting), and after a lot of research found that a common acer problem is that the bios is the wrong version, and that it needs to be upgraded. so i downloaded a bios upgrade off of the acer website and ran it.
now my computer will not boot up, pressing the power button does nothing, it doesn't even light up.
i'm assuming that it was a bad bios flash, and i'm wondering if there's anything i can do to fix it.
my computer is an acer aspire timeline 5810tz-4657, 320 gb ram, intel pentium processor, 3 gb ram. i had windows vista and ubuntu v 10.04 installed on it prior to the bios flash.
I replaced the system board for an Acer Aspire 5552, and noticed that the product information for the machine, IE: Serial Number, SNID, etc are not flashed into the BIOS. The serial number for this is listed just as 123456789. Do any of you know how I can get my information flashed into the BIOS?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using n5050 model from last 2 years, now i increased memory to 8GB and also changed intel celeron to core i3 processor, now when i plug in AC adaptor my screen goes to blank for just 2 seconds, a technician said you update bios, i downloaded, but it says " same version can't be flashed " .... I am using A05 version of Bios....
View 3 Replies View RelatedI thought it would be a good idea to flash the BIOS (latest version A24) before reinstalling Windows, but after doing that and installing Windows the on board mic isn't detected anymore! headphone jack, built-in speaker, work but the mic doesn't work. it worked right before doing the BIOS flash.
to remedy this I reset BIOS settings to Default, enabled and disabled Mic in BIOS settings, installed Dell Audio drivers instead of generic Windows drivers. nothing works.  in fact in BIOS diagnostic tests says Webcam/mic board not detected.
The charger is plugged in and the battery is at 100%. This is a M4500 Precision laptop with Windows 7. I tried flashing bios from safemode, also from Windows PE.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a 2450 and the keyboard, touchpad and usb ports are all not working. I did some reading and someone had said that a reset could fix this problem, he said it was a problem with Acers bios. I'm trying to find where to jumper it, i read that you jumper J3 that is around the memory. I did that and don't think it reset, i figured the bios would give me a time warning or some sort of setting's warning. I thought i should see if anyone knows the procedure. Otherwise im thinking about cutting the lead to the top terminal and soldering in a jumper (which i don't want to do).
View 7 Replies View Relatedwhere the BIOS battery is located at on the Acer TravelMate 5520 laptop? I locked myself out of my computer and heard that removing the BIOS battery for an hour and then putting it back in will reset the BIOS password.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDue to some mulfunctioning of my TravelMate it cannot recognize the BIOS administrator passord anymore.
how to reset it?
just working on the CMOS battery doesnt work for that password (only resets the BIOS user password).
is there any jumper or contact on the motherboard to reset?
Can I flash a BIOS and get rid of it?
Where can I find a copy of the BIOS? it seems that ACER Bios utility works under windows and requires to input the BIOS password for resetting.
if it's possible to buy and install a replacement BIOS for an Acer Travelmate 2300 (as my 2300 died half-way through a flashing process-it will power on but there is nothing on the screen) or is the BIOS chip soldered to the motherboard and not possible (I've no technical skill at soldering).
Or is there a way to reset the BIOS? I could find nothing on the Acer website specific for this model.
I have a brand new 12" Acer TravelMate 6293. I've instaled XP, Vista, Win7 and Ubuntu.
In all of them I'm having problems with the keyboard. It works, it's just sometimes it misses out on button presses, like you type a word and its missing a letter etc.
1. cant trust windows for bios update
2. dont flash the bios unless told so by a qualified tech or acer
3. cant reflash/install orig bios via usb thumb drive
4. one option is to take back to acer and get slugged $$$ cos not covered
by warranty.
5. second option is to take bios chip out and have it reflashed.
6. third option is to buy a new bios chip.
7. fourth option i to buy a new motherboard

1. Is their any unofficial, modded, or good BIOS for this laptop? I currently have 3508
2. Is their anyway to update the graphics card bios for this laptop?
3. Does this laptop support Bluetooth? I heard it did, and I heard it didn't.
4. Is there anyway I can control fan speed?
5. If I'm using the back USB ports of my laptop, and repeatedly plug and unlpug my speakers from the wall plug, my USB devices turn off for a quick second and come back. Is this normal?
6. On the front of my laptop, I have 3 audio jacks. I have no idea what the 3rd one does.
7. Is their anyway to use the € and $ keys on my laptop without Launch Manager?
8. I have 2 switches on the front of my laptop. 1 For Bluetooth and 1 for Wifi. So if I didn't have bluetooth, what would the bluetooth swich do even? (Related to question 2)
Laptop still under warranty. I recently had a motherboard and HDD replacement. I wanted to install Windows myself, but the BIOS was set to UEFI, and I couldn't seem to boot off of a USB drive. So I switched it to Legacy, booted from the pendrive, and installed Windows just fine.
Â
For whatever reason, I went back to try and change the setting to UEFI. Now the laptop switches on, but refuses to boot. I get a black screen, with no logo or any prompt whatsoever to access the BIOS.Â
I read a bit and seems I need to remove the BIOS battery, let the memory clear itself to reset BIOS settings to default, and try again? If it matters, I re-installed Windows 7 64-bit.

The hard drive on my Pavilion 4070-us crashed, so I bought a replacement drive - a Samsung SSD 850 EVO, 256GB. Â The problem is that I can't seem to get the recovery discs to work, and neither Microsoft or HP support me. Microsoft of course tells me that they won't support for OEM versions of Windows 7, and HP said that my product has been discontinued. I own a legal copy of Windows 7....
Â
What happens after I go through the installation process with the recovery discs is that instead of the Windows installation continuing like it's supposed to, I get "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". Â I'm desperate, I tried two different options - one was the minimal image recovery, the other one was a factory restore. Nothing seems to work. What can I do? Â By the way, the original hard drive is not *completely* dead - I can still access most of the data on it.
I have just installed a fx2500 in my M90 and was wondering if I flash it with the Fx3500 bios would it become a fx3500? It seems from the specs that the only difference is the core/memory speed.
View 12 Replies View RelatedSome specs:
7900gs, flashed to GTX. Idle at 55-60 C .
Dual monitor (one dell 19" LCD + laptop)
This setup worked OK for many months.
Today, this happened:
Wake from hibernation.
Browse homepage (internet)
Monitor blanks, mouse freezes
Laptop display blanks.
I turn off computer.
Here is status NOW:
I can boot in safe mode. I have cleaned old video driver.
Boot in regular mode. OK. (with video driver uninstalled)
Install ANY video driver (win XP, media center)- the display freezes, and blanks after the windows loading screen. I do not get to the log in page.
There are also strange lines all over the screen (during boot)
I need this computer for work, so I must fix asap. I would like to know if I should purchase a new video card.
I successfully upgrade an old laptop so that it will run well and not be too costly to upgrade either? So slow at present....
Laptop is:
acer travelmate 4502WLMi running xpsp3
Was thinking that probably the only upgrades worth considering were ram and hdd.
If this is the case what size mem and spec will work?
If the hdd is worth upgrading do I go for internal or external? and what size ?
ive just re-installed vista home premium on my acer travelmate 5320 but now the led for the wireless is reversed, so when the wifi is on the led is off and vice versa does anyone have any ideas whatsoever as i am at a loss with this one.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have just been given a TravelMate 530 2.2 cpu Lappy
Fine for all I need but I would love to upgrade the memory. I see it says it can only go up to 1 gig and that it has 256 as standard.
I see there is a slot under a cover on the back, but only 1 slot (Unless I'm not looking properly)
Can I just stick a 1 gig unit in this slot and all will be fine or is there some unusual method to upgrading the memory. Hope it's nothing like the old Dells

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was given an Acer TravelMate 2300 by someone who has a new one. It came with no guarantees and no recovery CD. It had working verison of XP Pro on it through SP2. I applied SP3 and several updates. It worked good until... I noticed that the C drive was formatted FAT32. So I thought it a good idea to move it to NTFS. Without checking, I fired in "convert c: /fs:ntfs". It rebooted and after a brief look at the Windows XP splash, it goes straight to a stop code x0000024 BSOD. There was nothing on the drive except for the OS so I was felt OK withjust reinstalling from my media.
I dragged out my copy of XP pro slipstreamed with SP2. Booted from CD, went through XP's native setup and detected an "unknown" partition where C used to be. I must've really slammed it. I chose to install to the unknown partition and XP offered to format it NTFS. I chose the thorough format option but it goes only to 24% and stops. The display still shows the progress bar, blue background etc. at 24%.
Since I don't have much experience with laptops, let me ask, is it possible that this laptop/drive ONLY formats to FAT or FAT32 and won't take an NTFS volume? If it will, are there any ideas out there how to apply and NTFS format so I can get this cute little laptop back to a usable state?
i got myself a new Acer Travelbook 5320, i get a win xp image, i burn it to a disc, i put it in, setup loads, i hit enter and he says the setup hasn't found a HD? it says it comes with feakin 160gb of HD memo!

Every time I restart, the network card is disabled by default.
On very few occasions, the network card disables itself when surfing the internet.

Disabling other network cards
Going to Device Manager, NIC, Untick "Allow the computer to turn off..."
Scan for malware/viruses using AVG 8.0

Still it doesn't work!
