where the BIOS battery is located at on the Acer TravelMate 5520 laptop? I locked myself out of my computer and heard that removing the BIOS battery for an hour and then putting it back in will reset the BIOS password.

I have narrowed it down to a faulty motherboard. Has anyone been able to isolate the cause of this problem to a component or components on the motherboard?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently won and acer travelmate 5520 and I can't figure out how to disable the password that it asks you for upon startup.
To clarify, when I press the power button, the acer logo appears for a few seconds, and then I need to enter my password to continue with startup. I want to disable this password all together.
Yesterday, I've been told by an Acer representative that I should upgrade my BIOS as soon as I mentioned slowdown.
So I decided to upgrade with the BIOS from the site at Acer PanAm.
As soon as it said it was making a backup of the BIOS I previously had, it blacked out and turned off. Upon boot, my screen was black, my LEDs were flashing despite the only keys working were Caps and NumLock; and pressing the power button once would turn it off.
So then, as I thought Google was my friend, I searched for guides on how to do a BIOS recovery. Thing is, I don't remember my BIOS version, and I needed to go buy a USB floppy drive to do the Crisis Recovery Disk method. So I managed to buy one for $15, and tried the Fn+Esc solution correctly and endlessly with many BIOS versions, but to no avail.
Also, the laptop had to be downgraded to XP, as when it was previously a Vista with only 766MB of RAM, I couldn't do jack with it without slowing down like an elderly person on Ritalin. Maybe this has something to do with Acer's BIOS being Vista-only?
I suck with computers, so I dunno. I've been told I should change my BIOS chip.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought a 2450 and the keyboard, touchpad and usb ports are all not working. I did some reading and someone had said that a reset could fix this problem, he said it was a problem with Acers bios. I'm trying to find where to jumper it, i read that you jumper J3 that is around the memory. I did that and don't think it reset, i figured the bios would give me a time warning or some sort of setting's warning. I thought i should see if anyone knows the procedure. Otherwise im thinking about cutting the lead to the top terminal and soldering in a jumper (which i don't want to do).

I have a Travelmate B113. Its battery is in and battery/charge indicator shows that it is connected.
But it doesn't charge the battery at all and when I move my mouse on battery indicator at bottom right of screen, it shows " Plugged in and not charging".
 I removed battery several times and inserted again. but nothing.
I am wondering is there any hardware key or even something in windows that can stop charging or?
I have a brand new 12" Acer TravelMate 6293. I've instaled XP, Vista, Win7 and Ubuntu.
In all of them I'm having problems with the keyboard. It works, it's just sometimes it misses out on button presses, like you type a word and its missing a letter etc.
1. cant trust windows for bios update
2. dont flash the bios unless told so by a qualified tech or acer
3. cant reflash/install orig bios via usb thumb drive
4. one option is to take back to acer and get slugged $$$ cos not covered
by warranty.
5. second option is to take bios chip out and have it reflashed.
6. third option is to buy a new bios chip.
7. fourth option i to buy a new motherboard

I've bought some days ago an Dell 15R 5520 with i3 3110M, HD 7670M and a battery Li-Ion, 6 cells, 48 Whr. I use laptop for some browsing, listen music and edit text and my battery last around 2 hours. I turn off bluetooth. On official page of the product Dell says that battery should last for 6 hours. My OS is Ubuntu 11.10.

I went to a best buy and I was told that I had to buy a $80 universal charger. I knew right away this was false so I left. If this is normal for the battery to lose capacity so quickly (nearly 20% in just over a month seems a lot to me..) or should I consider asking Dell for a replacement?
I recently purchased dell 15R 5520 inspiron. After 4 months of usage suddenly few days back the system showed popup message that the battery charging is disabled . So I had contacted the customer service centre and after one hour they concluded that battery be replaced. They sent a new battery for replacement but replacing with new battery showed me the same message of battery charging disabled.

I am having problems with my brother's acer laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 5520. The first time we experienced this problem I tried removing the battery and I placed the battery back again. I plugged the ac adaptor into another outlet. I was able to get a a greenlight on the battery and on the hard drive. For some reason I am not able to get a greenlight on both indicators. I tried plugging the laptop on another outlet. It seems I'm not able to power it up anymore. Is it the battery or the power adapter?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Aspire 5520-5912 laptop I am trouble shooting for a relative that randomly shuts down just before, or shortly after it boots to windows.
I have tested the hard drive in my Desktop and scanned it for viruses, swapped out the memory, re applied thermal paste on the cpu heat sink and made sure it was not clogged with dust.
I think I have it narrowed down to a bad MB or CPU but was wandering if anyone else has had any issues like this and what the problem was.
I think my cpu and gpu temps are too high. The idle temps are: cpu: 40-50°C, gpu: 60-70°C. I'm installing WoW now, and the cpu is 74°C, the gpu 75°C. My CPU is: AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-60 (2.0 GHz), graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G. I'm using SpeedFan to watch the temps.
