I recently won and acer travelmate 5520 and I can't figure out how to disable the password that it asks you for upon startup.
To clarify, when I press the power button, the acer logo appears for a few seconds, and then I need to enter my password to continue with startup. I want to disable this password all together.

Due to some mulfunctioning of my TravelMate it cannot recognize the BIOS administrator passord anymore.
how to reset it?
just working on the CMOS battery doesnt work for that password (only resets the BIOS user password).
is there any jumper or contact on the motherboard to reset?
Can I flash a BIOS and get rid of it?
Where can I find a copy of the BIOS? it seems that ACER Bios utility works under windows and requires to input the BIOS password for resetting.
Now I am not after any passwords or any thing but I think this is disgusting.
My wife has an on boot bios password and wanted to disable it. She asked me to do it because I work in IT so it shouldnt be a problem.
I logged in with her password. Went security, user password, Press enter, typed in existing one then new password blank and confirmed it with another blank password. Rebooted and now it prompts for a password and we are stuffed.
Is this me being stupid did I do some thing wrong is that not the way to do it ?
Its appauling. We had a customer in work whos laptop was sent away to be sorted because he had the same problem. At the time I thought he was bit silly but now I can see how it could happen
My son has bought me a Dell 15R (5520) laptop. I collect my e mails from Talk Talk via their website and have done this on my old Dell laptop and home computer for many years.
Since I got my new lap top I can not collect my e.mails. As soon as I enter my password the screen goes blank and I can not access my mails.
I have re-tried my old laptop right next to my new lap top (both working on same wireless connection) and it works fine. The mails can also be collected on another laptop no problem
Why is the new laptop not accessing the same page correctly? I have tried changing the internet settings.
My dell xps 12 ultrabook has been disabled after three failed attempts the password on boot. But now that I put the correct password continuously telling me the password is incorrect.

Changes made to system that caused issue to occur:
Laptop was stolen from car two weeks before Christmas, but was recovered by police and returned to me a month later. Upon retrieval of laptop, the battery was dead and the power pack/cord & mouse wasn't returned with the laptop. I had a dell power pack/cord that fit and used to turn on the computer. A black screen appeared with a blue box asking to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password." After 4-5 attempts to enter the password that was set for windows, the system disabled itself. I would have to remove the battery and plug in power cord to reset the computer which continues to ask to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password." I do not want to restore or reset the computer by losing all my personal data that was stored prior to it being stolen. Is there anyway to override this or is there a "generic password" to use as a bypass this screen to get it to operate and back to the Windows login screen?

When I first loaded up my Vaio the Startup Assistant booted by itself and I unchecked the box to stop booting on startup. After the while the Startup Assistant started booting up by itself even though the box is still unchecked. I am having problems with my brother's acer laptop. It's an Acer Aspire 5520. The first time we experienced this problem I tried removing the battery and I placed the battery back again. I plugged the ac adaptor into another outlet. I was able to get a a greenlight on the battery and on the hard drive. For some reason I am not able to get a greenlight on both indicators. I tried plugging the laptop on another outlet. It seems I'm not able to power it up anymore. Is it the battery or the power adapter?

I've try to install windows xp, i've changed BIOS priority and put cd on first place, saved changes in BIOS and restarted my laptop and here comes a problem...
It will not boot windows from cd! I' ve tried with F8, F3 etc. I know that windows cd is ok because I've tried it on my old comp few minuts ago!

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Aspire 5520-5912 laptop I am trouble shooting for a relative that randomly shuts down just before, or shortly after it boots to windows.
I have tested the hard drive in my Desktop and scanned it for viruses, swapped out the memory, re applied thermal paste on the cpu heat sink and made sure it was not clogged with dust.
I think I have it narrowed down to a bad MB or CPU but was wandering if anyone else has had any issues like this and what the problem was.
