On startup I get "Administrator Password or Power On Password". After three tries - System Disabled (65684298).

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a compaq presario CQ56 - 154CA laptop. I wiped the hard drive using DriveCleanser in TrueImage Home 2011 and then attempted to load the recovery manager with F11 (or F10 or whatever it is), but now all I get is a red screen with the big Q logo with "press ESC for startup menu" on the bottom left and it just hangs there. I did wipe the Win7 and the System partitions, but not the Recovery partition. I did do a backup of those 3 partitions onto my external drive, but the laptop won't boot from a bootable flash drive I made in True Image, nor any of my boot CD's. And I did set the bios to boot from flash first, then DVD, then hard drive before wiping.
I didn't make the recovery DVD's with Recovery Manager in Win7, but I shouldn't need them since the Recovery partition is still there.
I've read that some Compaq laptops use a utility on the hard drive to load the bios, startup menu etc, so if that is the case with mine then it was thoroughly deleted. If this is the case, is there any way I can get it back on the drive?
If not, I could try to remove the drive and put it in an ext enclosure and hook it up to my desktop. It's possible that I can use the flash drive to use True Image to restore the two wiped partitions. Also, I've read that in this instance, removing the drive and then turning on the laptop may allow the bios to load, but I'd really rather not take out the drive if I don't have to.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a compaq presario CQ61-420US with similar problems below, except I have a black screen, fan turns blinking lights are the same (num lock and cap lock) but they are flashing continuously every second or 2. I have tried the hard reset with the ram fix, connecting an external monitor, changing the battery, and the power adapter to no avail. I also used compressed air on the vents just in case was stuffed with dust since it will overheat and may cause problems, but nothing.
One option I can think of is purchasing a new MotherBoard, but I'm trying anything else before that.
The audio just stopped. On troubleshooters everything else is apparently OK and the problem does not show up in the device manager. Is there a replaceable part? It is of course just out of warranty.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Compaq Presario CQ56 notebook computer. It was set up correctly when I bought it, everything worked perfectly. I somehow managed to get a virus which prevented me from even turning on my computer (Which is odd, because I'm not an idiot with computers, and I know what not to download/sites to visit), so I had to reset my computer back to stock, I used my Windows 7 disk, formatted the partitions and installed windows again.
Now, for some reason it won't connect wirelessly to the internet. It connects when I have an ethernet cable plugged in, but it won't find any networks, as shown in this screen shot:
I'm not sure what's causing it, but I guess it must be a driver issue?
Here's another screenshots :
It works fine when I have my laptop plugged into the internet, when I'm at uni, but when I come home on a weekend I can't bring my laptop back, because I only have WiFi back home.
I have a Compaq Presario CQ56-115dx and an HP 16gb flash drive that will not work with the computer. The flash drive works with my HP Pavilion laptop, but not with the Compaq. I have a 4gb HP flash drive that works with the computer just fine, along with a few SanDisk ones. I don't think that it's the USB drivers because my other flash drives work with the computer just fine. I really need to use the flash drive to back up information from the Compaq computer.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI own a CQ56-203SG Laptop which was doing fine for years (I do not remember when I bought it). No misuse, no hard hits. New HP Battery since a few month. No difficulties before. Used it with Ubuntu which worked perfect! No M$Windows ever touched this machine. It does not boot any more. Even BIOS is not reachable.Start by pressing the power button leads to: Light in power button is on, orange light in key F12 is on, white light in CapsLock key is slowly blinking. No signal by coded blinking recognised.
Fan is on, slowly, constant.Monitor remains dark. HD lamp does one short flicker when powered on, remains dark then. It does NOT make a difference if lid is closed or open. Obviously even going to BIOS is not working. Last status before failure:OS working, lid closed, machine was sleeping.Did not wake up. After several attempts it woke up exactly once. After restart it remained dark for ever. Formerly all that worked fine for years. I tried to power down completely including battery remove and then press power button to drain capacitors. No result. I tried the Win + b keystroke combination, no result. Machine dead.

I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ56-112SA Notebook which has WIndows 7 Home Edition OS. I would like very much to install Ubuntu 12.04 OS on its own partition to dual boot with Windows. However, my understanding is that the Notebook has 4 primary partitions on the HDD that are already used and therefore no more partitions can be made. I can shrink the 'C' drive partition to make space but I understand I also have to free up a whole partition. I know I can install Ubuntu 'Inside' Windows but I would rather not.
Some contributors say one can safely delete HP-Tools to provide a partition for Ubuntu but others advise not to because HP-Tools contains a BIOS recovery kit which, they say, is essential.

Changes made to system that caused issue to occur:
Laptop was stolen from car two weeks before Christmas, but was recovered by police and returned to me a month later. Upon retrieval of laptop, the battery was dead and the power pack/cord & mouse wasn't returned with the laptop. I had a dell power pack/cord that fit and used to turn on the computer. A black screen appeared with a blue box asking to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password." After 4-5 attempts to enter the password that was set for windows, the system disabled itself. I would have to remove the battery and plug in power cord to reset the computer which continues to ask to "Enter Administrator Password or Power On Password." I do not want to restore or reset the computer by losing all my personal data that was stored prior to it being stolen. Is there anyway to override this or is there a "generic password" to use as a bypass this screen to get it to operate and back to the Windows login screen?
