My fan just runs and runs anytime this computer is on. Is there anyone out there that is familiar with this setup that could recomend a new fan that I could install or suggest something to help keep this machine cool? It is getting flippin'
View 4 RepliesI have upgraded my laptop from 4GB to 12GB (4+8). After the upgrade, the laptop boots and runs very very slowly.My laptop came with 4GB ram 1600 single stick. I upgraded the RAM by adding another stick of 8GB same bus and same manufacturer. The BIOS shows the total memory as 2288MB instead of 12288MB. Windows detects total RAM of 12GB but boots and runs very slowly.I have updated the BIOS from A06 to A07 trying to resolve the problem but with no luck.When installing each RAM stick alone (4gb or 8gb), everything works fine, but the issue comes back again when both sticks are mounted together even when switching the places on the sockets.

Am i doing something bad or wrong like destroying or melting the insides of my puter? And im using a Celeron 530 @ 1.73 ghz...2 gigs of ram and 80g hard drive.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I power on, after about 5-6 minutes the fan (I assume the CPU fan) kicks in. However, it then seems to remain on constantly until the laptop is turned off, even if I'm only idling. This is slightly annoying, not just because of the noise, but also it seems to have quite a noticeable effect on the battery life.
I have installed SpeedFan to keep track of the CPU temp and it seems that the fan kicks in initally when the core temps reach about 35 C, but then the fan does not switch off, even when temps drop back down to 25/26 C, which seems very cool.
On every other laptop I have used (none of which were Acers), the CPU fan only comes on now and again, as and when it is needed.
So, is this normal behaviour or is there possibly a fault with the fan control mechanism ? If so I will consider taking back to the retailer for an exchange.
my Acer 8204 laptop runs in the bios with just the battery, but the moment it tries to load up Windows it shuts itself off
I tested it running on bios and it lasted the full 2hrs of battery

When running through Windows startup it has the splash screen and then

Been trying to do a full system back up on the eRecovery program on my Acer 6935G laptop but during the first disk out of three it gets to 99% and then the whole laptop locks up (I have just read up on google that the Acer program does this anyway to make sure nothing running in the laptop's background gets in the way with the writing process) and after about 5 mins or so the laptop kick in again & I can move the mouse and do things like browse the net again etc but the Acer eRecovery program still sticks at 99% and the DVD drive stops as well but then nothing. Also as well while the program is still running at 99% and the DVD drive stops when I look in my computer I notice that the DVD drive has disappeared and it has also disappeared from the device manager too! when rebooted though the DVD drive seemed to work normally & displayed in my computer again etc.
Last night the same thing happened as well when I made a back up of the Acer drivers & applications through the eRecovery program and it first halted at 99% too and because the system locked up I thought that the whole laptop had crashed so i rebooted the laptop & as well corrupted the writing of the disk so the incomplete disk had to go in the bin. Tried the process again with a new blank DVD and it worked and completed the application & driver back up. I'm puzzled to why it stops at 99% and does not complete but I want to see if this is a common problem or if anyone else has had the same problem? (I know that there are a couple of people on here who have bought this laptop on here recently) I don't want to risk keep trying to do the back up only to waste DVD's. By the way lastly the DVD's I am using are DVD+R's and they are over a year old.

The CPU fan is totally off when the CPU temp is under 55°C (according to Everest). Once it's over 55°C, it goes onto its low setting. Somewhere higher up, it goes to its high setting.
The problem: Even just browsing the web and doing light desktop work (IM, Explorer, Word), the CPU temp creeps up to 55°C pretty easily. Once it does, the fan shoots on, but it only takes about 3 seconds to get to below 55°C, so it shuts off again. Without the fan, the temp goes up past 55°C again, and the cycle restarts.
The result is an on-off-on-off-on-off fan that turns on or stays off for only about 2-5 seconds at a time. REALLY annoying, esspecially in an otherwise quiet library environment. I can see people looking over at me with a "what the f is wrong with your computer" look.
I've updated the BIOS to its latest as of this date (Jan 06 2009) on the Acer site (3810), that didn't help any.
I've read (on this site) that Acer uses something propertiary to control their fan, causing normal fan control software to not work on Acer's.
Does anybody know of any software that will let me control the speed of the fan? I tried the fan control software for the Acer Aspire One, which didn't seem to work.
A coworker lost her HD, a new one was added and she bought XP Pro now when I try to install it, when it gets to Setup is starting Windows it stops and stays there for ever. I have left it like that for two days and get nowhere.
View 6 Replies View RelatedHas anyone experienced a problem with Acer notebooks where when the user presses any key on the keyboard, the touchpad gets disabled? The 8940G we are reviewing has this problem and I have never seen this happen before. When the touchpad stops functioning the little Synaptics status thing on the taskbar still shows the sensitivity blob when you finger presses the touchpad. This tells me it is still working but something else is interfering.
I have looked around the Synaptics menu for anything relating to this feature and found nothing. I disabled the "hide cursor when typing" feature in Windows already and that didnt fix it.
I have an aspire 5755-6699 that has been giving me problems. It keeps freezing up and going into windows recovery at startup. Windows recovery stopped at checking and fixing disc errors. So I bought a new hard drive and put it in and tried to restore it with the recovery disks. Everything went fine until the very end with the language disc. The top bar went to 100% complete and the bottom bar stopped at 99% and just stayed there. I tried to restart the computer but it says there is no valid disk drive. Tried running e recovery again and the same thing happened. What should I do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have purchased an Acer Aspire ES1-111M-C3CP with windows 8. I am generally really pleased with the laptop and quality, except for one thing, the mouse pad stops working. When this happens I have to plug a usb mouse in the move the mouse pointer on the screen. If I restart the laptop then the mouse pad works fine, then randomly it will stop working again.

The first time we experienced this problem I tried removing the battery and I placed the battery back again. I plugged the ac adaptor into another outlet. I was able to get a a greenlight on the battery and on the hard drive. For some reason I am not able to get a greenlight on both indicators. I tried plugging the laptop on another outlet. It seems I'm not able to power it up anymore. Is it the battery or the power adapter?

My second question is: I've hooked up a second monitor to my laptop I checked the settings and it works like this, if I move my mouse to the right and keep going, my mouse appears on the second screen. I have an Acer Aspire V3-572g. My laptop came with windows 8.1 installed already. Currently, my pc is being reset to factory settings because I can not figure out how to keep the hdmi from going out after windows updates. The only way I can keep get the hdmi port to work is the factory reset it. The only way from keeping the hdmi working is by turning off windows updater. However, I'd like to figure out how to keep the hdmi working without doing so. My graphics card is Nvidia 840 M. Here are a list of things I've done after my laptop stops recognizing the hdmi.

Update the drivers to be up to date
Downloaded intel's utility manager to keep driver update to date
Downloaded factory installed drivers from Acer's website
Contacting microsoft and have them remotely connect to my laptop
Restored back my laptop to previous working conditions (although the hdmi never worked by going to a restore point)
Swapped hdmi cords and displays
After several hours of researching and trying different things I'm stumped. I bought this computer with the sole purpose of connecting it to a TV. I've also had this issue with another laptop which I returned. This problem isn't a hardware problem as I'm connected to the same monitor with an old desktop using the same cords. I'm guessing there is a compatability issue with windows and the display drivers when there is an update.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Aspire 5520-5912 laptop I am trouble shooting for a relative that randomly shuts down just before, or shortly after it boots to windows.
I have tested the hard drive in my Desktop and scanned it for viruses, swapped out the memory, re applied thermal paste on the cpu heat sink and made sure it was not clogged with dust.
I think I have it narrowed down to a bad MB or CPU but was wandering if anyone else has had any issues like this and what the problem was.
I think my cpu and gpu temps are too high. The idle temps are: cpu: 40-50°C, gpu: 60-70°C. I'm installing WoW now, and the cpu is 74°C, the gpu 75°C. My CPU is: AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-60 (2.0 GHz), graphic card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400M G. I'm using SpeedFan to watch the temps.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new OTB acer aspire 5520, and on initial booting everything worked sweetly but when i am trying to access my crystal eye cam on YM or any IM programs it says the webcam is not connected, Now I checked device manager and there is no webcam, so i installed the driver from the erecovery management tool I tried first the BISON driver and utility without success upon installation the program says the computer should display a "found new hardware" message, but nothing showed up. then when it restarted my machine and when i checked on device manager still no cam... next i uninstalled the BISON driver and installed the 2nd one (SUYIN) with the same results. I searched the support and download section of ACER online and tried a third driver the CHICONY and still the same results.. Finally i re installed my system to full factory default and re tried everything still the same problems...

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm in the repair field and I've got a customer's Aspire 5520 that was brought in for overheating. The machine had gone to Iraq, and the customer has indoor dogs..so yes, the fins on the heat pipe were very clogged. Got it all cleaned out, and the machine is still shutting itself off after between 10 minutes and 30 seconds of use.
Now, the machine isn't overheating. SpeedFan and a few other CPU temp utilities are showing the CPU to be around 45*c when the machine is randomly shutting down. 45c is not what I'd consider hot for a Turion x2.
It's not a RAM issue, I've replaced the CPU and am getting the same symptoms.
I have an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop with 320gb hd space .. 8600m gs video card ... 4gb ram... Vista 32-bit oem.. etc.
The problem is that I've just accidentaly deleted my whole OS.
I booted with my Vista 64-bit disc so I could format one of my drives, but I stupidly formatted the wrong one. (the one with my OS)
So now I just installed Vista 64-bit on it, so I could at least do something with my laptop (watch dvds etc.), but I can't get the internet to work anymore because of all the important stuff that got deleted.
What I was using was some public WLAN.
Now it complains that a network adapter doesn't exist.. or something like that. I don't even know what that is.
Is there any way I can fix this myself? I just need to get my internet to work again.
