my Acer 8204 laptop runs in the bios with just the battery, but the moment it tries to load up Windows it shuts itself off
I tested it running on bios and it lasted the full 2hrs of battery
But
When running through Windows startup it has the splash screen and then
It switches itself off automatically, with Power in it runs perfectly fine...
i have a HP DV9623cl and it will only run off the battery. When the adapter is plugged in Vista recognizes it and will display that it is charging. But as time goes on the battery runs out and the laptop turns off. It will not even turn on when plugged in.
Things i have check;
i have taken it apart and see no signs of damage anywhere near the power connector or the battery.
i have tried swapping out the power connector board with no success.
swapped power adapters.
swapped batteries.
updated the bios to the newest version.
Ran a linux live cd to see if it was windows.
I have a video about this Thinkpad 410s.I always pull the battery to replace a screen on a laptop.After replacing the screen I got ready to test it.I forgot to repace the battery and with the power adapter NOT connected it booted once before I realized what it was doing.I then turned my smartphone camcorder on and it booted a second time.Is there a second battery or is it running on capacitors? it had been unplugged 3 days before I changed the screen.

View 6 Replies View RelatedWhen I power on, after about 5-6 minutes the fan (I assume the CPU fan) kicks in. However, it then seems to remain on constantly until the laptop is turned off, even if I'm only idling. This is slightly annoying, not just because of the noise, but also it seems to have quite a noticeable effect on the battery life.
I have installed SpeedFan to keep track of the CPU temp and it seems that the fan kicks in initally when the core temps reach about 35 C, but then the fan does not switch off, even when temps drop back down to 25/26 C, which seems very cool.
On every other laptop I have used (none of which were Acers), the CPU fan only comes on now and again, as and when it is needed.
So, is this normal behaviour or is there possibly a fault with the fan control mechanism ? If so I will consider taking back to the retailer for an exchange.
where the BIOS battery is located at on the Acer TravelMate 5520 laptop? I locked myself out of my computer and heard that removing the BIOS battery for an hour and then putting it back in will reset the BIOS password.
View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen the battery is very low like say 10%, no warning comes up saying that the battery is running low, instead my laptop chips out and it doesnt hibernate or sleep so whatever i do that isn't saved is lost so these days when the battery is low i plug it in and i can continue working. my laptop is a hp pavillion g6 2237nr and it got a pretty bad fall about a year ago but it was working fine up to now.Ialso want to know, if i do have to replace my hardrive will my intel core i3 processor go with it?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently had my computer (HP Pavillion dv6000) repaired (I couldn't tell you exactly for what), and it was sent into HP to be repaired. I've got it back, and the problem that I previously had no longer exists.
Now however, the computer is not recognizing the battery. It works fine plugged into the wall and the battery is taken out, but when the battery is in the computer, the computer changes to battery power (instead of using external power and charging the battery) and soon dies, as my battery has little power left.
I borrowed a friend's battery (who has the same laptop) and for about 10 minutes the computer worked properly with the battery charging when plugged in. After those few minutes though, the computer resorted to battery power and won't charge. I think that rules out that it's just a faulty battery, but I could be wrong.
I've attempted updating my XPS 1640 BIOS to A11 in my notebook.
It hanged up at the half of it (it said "Erasing block 16 of 32") and after waiting for 1 hour, I restarted the computer...
Now it doesn't start up, when I press the power button, the 3 volume keys start to blink for some seconds, then the keyboard light turns on, and the computer turns off after a couple of seconds.

I decided to update the bios because that was the only thing that i had not updated. Now the computer is frozen with the BIOS update still running. I once had the same problem with a dv5-1199ei and it worked fine after upgrading the BIOS. By the way i upgraded from Vista Home premium to Win 7 Ultimate.

The computer came with a lightscribe drive and is removable since it also came with a empty filler for the optical drive. Is it ok to remove the drive and/or plug it in while the computer is on ? Same thing w/ the battery... is it ok to pop the battery out when the computer is on AC power, or put the battery back in when the computer is plugged in ?

Do Vaio Z Series laptop owners use their laptop as their main primary computer or a secondary computer? Do Vaio Z series owners also have a desktop pc as their primary computer and use their Vaio Z Series as a secondary computer? Or is your Vaio Z Series laptop your one and only computer that you always use? Is it comfortable using the 13 inch screen for long periods of time?
Reason i ask is some people have more then one computer and some people just have one.
I'm just wondering if the Vaio Z Series laptop is a good choice as a main computer since it's got good specs and it's nicely portable but will the 13 inch screen be ok to use for long periods even at the higher 1600 x 900 resolution?
My Dell inspiron 6400 has a battery that works amazingly but recently, I noticed a change in the behaviour. Anytime I switch the laptop on, the LED battery indicator shows me red meaning something is wrong even when the battery is fully charged. The battery charges normally even when I intentionally drain out the power and try charging it again. This is just to make sure that the battery charges fine. Infact, in windows, it shows me that the computer is on AC power even when it is not plugged into an AC outlet.
The BIOS shows "No battery installed" and windows tells me the same. Summarily, everything is fine except for the LED indicator showing Red and the BIOS telling me that no battery is installed.
so i've got a dv5t. i have the notebook raised up 6 inches in the back while on a desk, and i've also got it undervolted (down to 1.0250V on the 9x actually) and this machine always runs hot. hotter while in games (which makes sense.) but even while just browsing the net, it gets hot.

just talked to several friends with gaming laptops and macbook pros...no one runs higher than 70C with just normal usage and they don't use a cooler or anything.
The fan on my laptop runs constantly. The noise is very annoying. I have been having this problem for 6months plus. In reading previous posts, upgrading teh BIOS seemed to resolve the problem for a while, but it is happening again now. The fan runs from the second I turn the computer on. I am running the A02 BIOS. I just ran diagnostics and the fan test passed - speeds were 4500, 4500, 4000. current CPU temps ranged from 68-71. What else can I do?

Symptom:
A few days ago the computer started acting very slow; it is very slow in pulling up a window, starting new programs, and the clock is also slowed way down. The time in BIOS is also slow. No virus/malwares/ad wares detected. Interestingly, when I "pinch" the lower case at around the ATI/WinXP stickers area, the computer functions fine. But as soon as I stop pinching and flexing the lower casing, the computer slows again, sometimes to the point of becoming completely non-responsive. However, if I were to pinch the same corner again, the computer responds and acts normal.

The problem is that, my computer gets spikes of choppiness, it happens very infrequently when im simply IMing or browsing the web, it happens occasionally when playing low end games like MapleStory or Starcraft or Diablo2, it happens very often when playing TeamFortress2, and it makes Unreal Tournament 3 unplayable it happens so often.
i found my notebook-ACER is attacked by the virus. and i killed these virus by 360 anti-virus software, but there is in vain. my computer works so slow, i'm worry about it.
these anti-virus softwares are inavailable to my computer. what should i do?
In the last two weeks or so, the fan on my Studio 15 (1535) has been running continuosly. Even when it's under little/no load for extended periods of time, the fan stays on at higher-than-low-speed (from the sound)?
I've had it for about four months and this wasn't an issue until very recently. I have updated the BIOS twice (A02 to A03, then A03 to A06) and wonder if the most recent update was the culprit. I skipped A05 initially, but a few days ago I re-flashed using A05 to see if that might fix the issue- no dice! I'm debating whether I should go back to A03 and see if that does the trick?
But I don't want to keep arbitrarily flashing the BIOS over and over if there's no chance of it fixing the fan issue.
Anyone else have similar issues with the fan running constantly? Any suggestions on how to fix or, at least, mitigate the problem?
FYI- I always use the laptop on a flat, hard surface (desk or wooden lap-desk) to allow proper heat dissipation. I have also tried elevating the back of the system by 1/2-inch or so to improve airflow- NADA!
My new laptop Inspiron 3721 just arrived and the fan runs continuously!! It is not hot either. I called and Dell ran the diagnostics but it still runs all the time??? Is this normal?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a new Latitude E6440. Overall I love the system, but when it is docked / on AC power, I have noticed that I can almost constantly hear the fan. Right now my CPU is only at 6% but I can hear the fan running. Is that just normal behavior with this system? Does it just have a louder fan that runs more often? I just upgraded from an E6410 and I don't recall ever hearing the fan.
I am running Windows 8.1 Pro, and it is a brand-new install. I ran diagnostics and did not find any issues.
