I've attempted updating my XPS 1640 BIOS to A11 in my notebook.
It hanged up at the half of it (it said "Erasing block 16 of 32") and after waiting for 1 hour, I restarted the computer...
Now it doesn't start up, when I press the power button, the 3 volume keys start to blink for some seconds, then the keyboard light turns on, and the computer turns off after a couple of seconds.
I would boot from USB but the USB device doesn't appear in the list of bootable device.... I also upgrade my bios to the latest version: A02 but it doesn't solve the problem.... What could I do?
Also I was thinking to upgrade using a bios of similar model like the XPS 15z, could give problem use a different model bios?
tried to upgrade my Latitude E5510 from 2x2Gb (factury Samsung) to 2x4Gb Corsair CMSO8GX3M2A1333C9. BIOS updated to Rev. A13, latest. Memory is recognized as 8Gb. But booting into Windows7 X64 doesn't work anymore. If I boot from a Lubuntu CD (x86) it runs, naturally only with approx. 4Gb since this is a x86 OS-version. Windows 7 X64 just reboots. If I use Save Mode a reboot occurs when the loading of "ClassPnP.sys" starts. When I put in the old 2x2Gb everything works perfectly. Can't even get into Windows Setup from a clean DVD.
I've got my Dell Inspiron n5040 for almost 14 months, on which I upgraded to Windows 8, and now it doesn't start anymore. It tried to start in repair mode, but then it just shows a black screen, which doesn't change.
After running diagnostics I've gotten error info:
Error Code 2000-0142Validation 63358Msg: Hard Drive 0 - S/N WD-WX51A8109114, self test unsuccesful. Status = 7.
sony tech did a repair on my laptop and when he was done, a piece of the trim wasn't flush near the LCD hinge. To fix this, I put a drop of krazy glue under the hinge (it snaps off) on the panel above the keyboard and was able to fix the problem cleanly.
The problem is, I noticed my caps lock light no longer turns on. I have no clue when this could have happened, since it was under a couple repairs before. But, my worry is my warranty. Do you think they'll complain about replacing it if they see I had to glue a piece together? On the other hand, the light module screws into this panel so, technically they don't need to replace this panel, just the light module.
I got a X230 with 4GB 1Rx8 PC3-12800S-11-12-B4 memory installed. I tried to upgrade it with two Kingston KVR1066D3S7/4G 1.5V memory sticks.
Unfortunately after installing new memory sticks (combinations don't matter) my laptop doesn't power on. After pressing the button there's just a flash and BIOS doesn't boot.
Everything is back to normal after restoring the previous RAM configuration.
Is there something wrong with my memory sticks or is it some kind of bior issue or maybe something else?
My current Insprion 630m seems terminally ill to me, it will no longer boot into Windows. I could get as far as the XP Welcome screen, but it would just hang whilst logging in.
I can't re-install Windows because the DVD-RW is knackered. It won't work anymore. I tried booting into safe mode but it just crashes.
I think the HDD or some controller on the motherboard could be screwed. Maybe the BIOS is corrupt? As far as I'm aware the last time I logged in I didn't get any reports of any viruses from my AV software -
Yesterday i upgraded my laptop (Touchsmart tm2 2001) to windows 8.1 and had the same problem that some people here : the upgrade was fine, but at the end it could not reboot (blank screen with blue Windows, loading, loading, and restarting again, and again ...)
I succeeded to reboot with the no error mode, and solved the problem : i desctivated the intel graphics driver (i could not update anything in no error mode) it was ok, i could reboot, and reboot again.
Then i decided to let windows update do the rest... and it did pretty well... till the last reboot...
From this moment, the computer does not even launch the Windows first window... I see the boot 'Press Esc...' and it switches straight on a black screen with the cursor waiting, at the left top corner of the screen... no HD activity, nothing...
May i change a file or something with an other pc accessing to the HD, to solve this problem or do i have to reinstall windows ?
NB : the Esc then F11 - Restore procedure does the same thing...
I've bene playing a game (tf2) on my laptop, and 3 times now its turned off, just straight up turned off, and so I turned it back on, and then the keyboard didn't work no matter what I did.
So I called dell and they said some sort of static built up in the keyboard, and to take out battery, and wall plug, and hold power for 15 seconds, and then turn comp on. I did that and it restored my keyboard to full use.
But now twice since then my comp has shut down, and I've had to use that technique to restore it...
This laptop is only 2 weeks old, ? Why is it having problems a mere 2 weeks after I got it.
I mean I'm not even typeing fast enough to make a static charge, in game you only use a couple buttons. Also i'm on tile floors, no carpet at all, I use my laptop on a table although it does get hot.
I recently bought a new E535 laptop working like a charm up to now. Bios access was possible by pressing Enter directly after switching machine one, than came some sort of POST analysis which could be skipped by pressing any key and than came some sort of table where I could access Bios by pressing some key (cannot remember which it was exactly). Alternatively I could enter Bios when in boot menu by pressing tab which switched to another tab where Bios could be entered (also some sort of diagnosis programs could be started). As mentioned in the subject it is impossible for me to do this now, after I did the following:
- exchanged built in HDD with an new SSD (Bios access yet possible) - changed in Bios Setup boot mode from both (legacy + UEFI) to Uefi only (this might be the problematic point but I'm not sure) - Installed Windows 7 in Uefi mode on ssd
No when I press enter on startup it brings me to Windows boot manager menu (you know where you can say start Windows normally or in safe mode and so). Boot menu also changed with a new "start windows" entry (well, this seems to be correct), but when switching to the other tab it is empty now, no entry for Bios setup or diagnosis tests anymore.
This is really bad. I have googled around and tried the following up to now without success:
- Pressing F1 instead of enter - Shutdown laptop, and start with F1 pressed down - starting without HDD - starting unmodified HDD which was originally installed in laptop (which cannot be booted anymore, probably because it was installed in legacy mode)
I have also thought about flashing the bios, but the newest version available on lenovo support seems to be 1.04, but pre installed on my laptop is 1.10, so my version is a lot newer. Should I try to flash it nevertheless ?
I got a really annoying problem with my E330. It came without an OS, so I put Win 8 on the preinstalled HDD. Then I switched it out for a SSD and put Win 7 on it. (everything in UEFI mode)
Since then I can't get into the BIOS/UEFI anymore by either pressing Enter or F1. Pressing Enter still gives me a beep, but then Windows continues to load normally instead of showing several options like it used to do.
And yes I'm aware that I need a cold-boot in Win 8 to get into UEFI ... The only way to access UEFI at the moment is through the Win 8 charms-bar restart into UEFI trick.
I tried already to reflash the BIOS which doesnt work obviously since it's the same version, tried removing the CMOS battery, that gave me a one time opportunity to get into the UEFI with F1 when it complained about the date/time.
Switching to Legacy only leads me to an infinite PXE - something error loop, but I still cant get into the BIOS.
I tried pressing every combination of Fn+F-Keys and without Fn. Nothing works. I don't want to return the notebook, but it's a deal breaker for me if I can't get Win 7 running on it with accessible UEFI.
I have a dell inspiron n7110. I keep trying to turn on the computer and am getting nothing but black screen with 7 beeps. I tried starting it while holding the FN key all that happened is the beepos went away still black screen.
Okay...so, a while back, my computer had a problem where the computer would say that it's "plugged in, not charging." I fixed this by getting a new adapter. ([URL]...)
While the charging problem is fixed, whenever I plug my computer in with this adapter, the mouse becomes erratic. I can do basic navigation, then the cursor flips out and flies over what I'm about to click, so aiming for anything is like running on ice. I read a few things online as to what this is, and wound up updating my mouse driver and BIOS, even "releasing flea power" (Either I did it wrong or it didn't work) This has done nothing for this problem. I don't want to have to replace this computer. This is a Dell Inspiron N5110
I cant open my hp pavilion dv6. I've set a password but I don't know why it doesn't work.. I've tried to click f11 and system recovery it shows restore your computer to the out of the box and choose between backup files first or recover without backing up your files before it proceed..what will i do..? I am afraid that ill lose all my files.
I have a Dell Latitude d630 computer. Everytime i turn the power button to turn on a blue screen will suddenly pop up. It will not bring the dell loading screen up and will not bring up the option to "start windows normal". I have had the battery replaced wih a new one. I might think its the memory card or the screen itself. what to do next or at least on how to get the loading screen up would be great. And sometimes when i can press ctrl, alt and delete at the same time the screen will disappear and come back with the blue screen. And after sitting their with the blue screen after a while the "wifi" light will light up as well with the "blue tooth" light.
I had XP installed on my dell1640, but a pirate version. I had so many trouble with that software i went and bought a original xp software.
I messed the booot manger while deleting xp..so i did a full format of the machine and reinstalled vista...and then i partitioned the hard drive...so i can install XP...
now I instered the XP disc and and restarted my laptop and try booting i from the cd...it starts of fine.. and it gets to a point where it says Windows Will Start Setup or somthing along that line....and then the blue screen of death comes up and i have to restart....
I ran the diagnostics test as instructed prev and all passed. I then loaded BIOS defaults as instructed and saw "2nd boot priority hard drive" What does this mean and can I fix?
Do not upgrade... the upgrade killed my motherboard, I dont know what happened. I as installing it fine then it was totally unresponsive and would not shut off. I then had to take away the power supply and now Dell is coming to replace my motherboard.
I'm having a problem with my Dell Vostro 3550 Core i5, completely shut down Windows, screen off completely, but the power light and the keyboard still light, until the battery is completely discharged.
I think the reason is the OS I'm using (Windows 8), I have changed the operating system (win7) but the problem is not fixed, I checked the hardware it still works fine
I have an Inspiron 15R N5110. For the most part, my laptop has been an amazing machine, but not today. Now when I try and boot up my computer all I get is a blank screen and 7 quick beeping sounds.
I just got the SXPS1640 and have been playing a game that is getting a bit warm after a few hours of play then the game started loading slower.
I was doing some reading and found that you can update the bios to A07? I found the download, but wanted to make sure that the computer doesn't already have this and how to install and it too.
So I tried updating my BIOS to version A14, the current one on Dell's site. Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64, btw. It seemed to update fine, but when it restarted, I got a black screen.
I waited about 20 minutes, powered off, then back on. It booted into Windows, now however my keyboard does not work. Most keys do not work, and the ones that do produce incorrect characters.
Also, whenever I restart Windows, it does not reboot. It will hang at a black screen until I power off and back on. Currently typing this on a USB keyboard.
When I go into setup, it does say version A14, so I'm assuming it went through, but for some reason is not compatible with my system. Can I downgrade to fix this, and if so, where can I find an older BIOS version?
should i install the latest bios driver a08 from the dell site? i dunno in these things and i wanna know if it's recommended and known to not screw things up, and if i even need it
