I bought one of these Walmart specials in 11/07 and its nice for the price, but very slow. Rather than buy a new laptop, what reasonably priced upgrade options would you recommend, in order of increasing the speed. I don't mind spending another $200 or so to make it fast (if possible?), but don't think I want to invest much more than that.
The laptop is primarily used by me to surf the net and my wife to check her email on yahoo. Her main complaint is that it takes a long time to open each email. Right now it is connected wirelessly through the built-in wireless modem to my Apple Extreme Fast Ethernet, which does 802.11 b, g and n - it's the one that came out two years ago, not the bbrand new one.
Second time this has happened. I've downloaded the BIOS update from Acer's website.
Closed all programs, disabled the antivirus and went to flash it. Right after clicking start I get a Verify Error and the sytem freezes and is a dead unit. First time this happened they tried to tell me it was something like $150 to fix even though I did everything right. Now I went to do it again, same thing. Now Acer is telling me it will cost $450 to fix it. It's only 3 months old. They are also saying they are not responsible for anything downloaded from their web site.
So, couple questions. Has anyone successfully flashed their BIOS to 1.34? Does anyone know where you can buy motherboards cheap?
i have bios 1.27 and want to install the latest but am a bit worried about bricking the thing, my fan never seems to be off anymore and the indle temp is between 46 & 51 degrees is this normal for this model. Can i use a memory stick to flash the bios from dos ? cos a dont want to use windows killed my old hp laptop flashing in windows. Anyone have a safe cant fail method of upgrading this bios.
I have a Aispire 5315. I would like to upgrade my bios in DOS to 1.33 before I install a T9300 CPU. The size of the 1.33 bios is 148,000 bytes so I can't put it on a floppy and the zip files is also bigger than 1457664 bytes.
I prefer not to upgrade in Windows although I see many using winflash. Where is this file located.
I attempted to update the BIOS in my Acer Aspire 5315 laptop to no avail, the winbios program froze straight away, while erasing the BIOS I think. So since then I havn't been able to start the laptop, no fans, but does blink a red LED beside the little light icon when left for longer than 10 seconds or so when you press the power button. I've tried the fn+esc method to boot it to flash the bios but nothing at all, tried it with USB and CD-ROM. I've tried removing all the hardware and starting it, I've also tried resetting the CMOS, still no luck.
I'm thinking that the red LED might be a little indicator of hope, or is it maybe the capacitor filling up
It started when I decided to upgrade the memory -- the manual said the laptop would take 2GB, so I bought 2 1GB modules, put them in, but the laptop would only read one of them, no matter how many ways I put it in. So, it was suggested I upgrade the BIOS. I've downloaded the latest, etc, but whenever I boot from the floppy I've got, and the A prompt comes up. Then what? I've been told to "execute the 1.BAT file", but not told how. I've tried typing 1.BAT.exe, to no avail, and was then told to just type in "1.BAT". This also just got me a "Bad command or file name".
I have an Acer Aspire V5 122P-0408 notebook. I am considering upgrading the 5400 rpm hdd inside to an ssd. I will also be buying a new copy of Windows 8.1 to install. I have version 2.04 of the bios now. The latest bios version is 2.12. I was wondering if I would be able to install an ssd and 8.1 without updating the bios as I don't want to accidentally brick my laptop.
If not, would updating the bios fix any compatibility issues or add any new improvements?
I just buy an Acer Aspire V3-371, then I delete all partitions in HDD and install MS Windows and driver for this notebook. Everything are OK until I ugrade BIOS form v1.05 to v1.08. Now, it cannot boot to MS Windows and shows me "No Bootable Device".
I try to reinstall MS Windows, but I see a notice "Windows can't be installed on this drive" with details "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks".
I have a dell XPS l501x . Yesterday i upgraded the BIOS to A08 but i forgot my bios password . I called dell support she gave me one code but that didnt worked .I was told to replace the motherboard, Is there any other way out...
I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop and it is currently running with the A12 BIOS version.
I notice that there are several newer versions available... A14, A15 & A17
Since the details of the A14 version indicate that it includes an "Intel CPU microcode update", must I FIRST UPGRADE with this A14 version before I THEN upgrade with the latest A17 version, or by simply upgrading directly with the A17 version, will this also include all previous updates, including the Intel CPU microcode update...
ive been looking arouind the forums here and ive read that my acer 5315 can be upgraded a bit which i love as i dont like the poor celeron cpu and the 512mb ram so i bought the best cpu i could which wat a core 2 duo t7700 and 2 2 gig ram sticks (pc2-5300) problem is the cpu works a treat but when i put the 4 gig ram my lappy resets when windows tries to load and i dont understand why? it works great with 1 2gb ram and 1 512mb but only when i put the 512 in 1st then the 2gb stick on top, im sure i have prob miss read sommit but dont know wat, can anyone help me out on this issue? i did do a reformat on my system when i upgraded and i even used a 64 bit windows as i know the 32 bit version dont really like 4 gig

I got a problem with my Acer Aspire 5315. The HDD is shown in the bios but won't show in Vista most of the time. The HDD is completely formated, including the Acer partition. So recovery is not an option.
The problem is strange because it is not consistent. Sometimes I am able to acces the drive and install Vista. But then the next day, when i try to boot again, i only see a cursor after the Acer boot screen.
I've tried running in IDE mode. I also tried replacing the HDD with a new one. I installed vista with the correct Intel driver.
I also tried running Linux live cd. It also sees the HDD drive correctly but when i try to acces it, the program freeses.
I'm affraid something is wrong with the I/O controller, or it is a loose cable. If you think otherwise, please let me know. If not, i'd like to know how I can check the HDD cable.
My Acer 5315 died during a power outage while updating the BIOS. I have been trying to revive it using an old post I found. I suspect everything is ok except for the autoexec.bat file that I have written. Any help? Or does anyone know where I can just get the Inside recovery disc?
Every so often my laptop shuts down. Like it seems after it comes back from a sleep session the fan doesnt come back on. I had to replace the hard drive in it once because I think it fried from getting to hot. I don't know whats wrong with it. I had a cool pad, but it didnt keep it to cool. Is there any fixes, or fans I could put in it to keep it cool? Or even drill any holes anywhere to cool it down? its an acer 5315 model.
I have a Acer Aspire 5315 that has been causing me a lot of problem. It recently started to shutdown with no warning and keept doing it for a while until it died. I have searched the forum for answers but havent been able to find anything good. This whole week it hasnt been able to boot. I tried pulling out the harddrive, switching memory modules, cleaning up the clogged heatshink without any resultats. I think the shutdown problem was due to the clogged heatsink and the computer overheateting. Now it won't boot at all.
When I press the powerbutton the fan spins up and the power led turns green. 4-5 sec after that fan stops and after few more sec the green led turns off but no boot.
