View 3 Replies View Relatedi got a problem with my dvd burner ( Slimtype DVD A DS8A1P ATA Device ). I tried to burn a DVD-RW. But it just wont burn, although it does reconnizes the DVD.
I already came to some threads here, which said this particular drive has problems with DVD burning. But why do they place it in my laptop?
My Acer Aspire 6920 Laptop freezes occasionally, and nothing but a cold shutdown fixes it. Sometimes after I turn it back on again, the keyboard is unresponsive until after I've logged into my Windows 7. If I was playing music at the time of the freeze, it plays the last few seconds of music in slow motion over and over again.
There does't seem to be anything in particular that causes the crashes (sometimes I'm running games, other times it was idling).
How can I stop it freezing?
What I've tried: Reinstalling my Windows 7 64bit, Installing the latest drivers (from various sources)
I took a video of the laptop in it's frozen state, if this would help anyone? If it would, I can upload it to youtube... Basically nothing but a cold shutdown (holding in the power button) does anything.
I was installing Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire 6920.
It had Windows Vista installed. I deleted all the partitions including backup (Yes I found out that was stupid), and tried installing Windows 7.
It wouldn install Windows 7 so I went back to Windows Vista. I found my recovery disk and it sort of worked. There where no errors in the setup but when I start my computer it doesnt go to Windows.
It has a black screen with a white _ blinking.
Hey folks. I wrote a review for The Acer Guy back when I first bought my laptop (Aspire 6920-6621), but it's time for an update.
(Link to my original review [url]
Here's some basic specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Two 140gig HD's
1.83GhZ Dual Core Intel Processor
3gig RAM
And some dinky graphics chip.
Well, after two years, I have to say it has held up but not as well as I think it should have.
A few months after writing my first review, I had to send my Laptop to Acer. Admittedly, the customer support was fantastic. They took care of me.
HOWEVER, I'm not pleased with how my computer came back. It wasn't put back together, and I didn't want to send it back to them again.
Regardless, the build quality is a bit iffy. Not sure if other people have had this issue, but cracks are forming in several places. The first time I sent the computer back, it was because of cracks on the bezel. They replaced it, but after a few months the cracks came back. There is also a crack on the bottom cover.
Keyboard flex is there but not too severe.
When I was dusting my keyboard, the sharp end of the spacebar snapped off, so now a good few mm's are missing. I sanded it down and it looks fine, but still.
The express card placeholder doesn't stay in well, in fact, if you aren't careful, the thing will come out.
In terms of performance, it's still holding up. I've not had any problems with Vista, and I game as well as code. Steam has given me a few C++ errors, but meh.
Audio quality is acceptable. The left speaker is crackling and the "subwoofer" adds a nice effect, but overall it's disappointing. Should be better for all the hype.
Screen quality is actually pretty good, much better than most computers I've used. The only thing that I've used that compares is a Mac.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am very new to Laptops, Drivers ect.
I am wanting to upgrade to Windows 7 and I was woundering what things do I need to download AFTER I get it installed?
I know empowering technology will not be there anymore, How can i get it back?
And for My finger reader? How can I get those back?
I have aspire 6920 and I love the features this computer has but I am not very happy with vista. Can I install xp pro? I know that deleting the pq service partition is not wise but I would rather have xp pro. How do I delete pq service? Also, is this action reversible? If I can install xp can I ever go back to the manufacturer OS? I have created the restore cd's but will they work without the pq service partition.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Acer Aspire 6920 Notebook which came with vista home premium in 64 bit installed. I have made Recovery disks (3 DVDs) and had resorted to factory defaults several times by using the DVDs and not by Alt+F10 (at that time I did not know about alt+f10). I now have removed the 64- bit vista home premium and have windows-7 Ultimate RTM, Vista Home Premium and XP Pro all in 32 bit in three separate partitions in one single hdd. I have also done BIOS upgrade from 1.06 to 1.14. I have SATA mode set to IDE instead of the default AHCI due to XP not functioning under AHCI interface.
My BIOS shows hdd pw frozen by default though I have removed the hdd and set the BIOS to default twice. I find the Vista Home Premium in 64 bit OEM is a real pain since it has a lot of third party softwares – free and sharewares – which I have to uninstall every time (more than 20 of them) and therefore I tried to delete the acers recovery partition which is of 18 GB size and my Notebook with 250 GB hdd shows only 232 GB.
However, the partition is hidden and I have tried to unhide and delete the recovery partition with a number of third party partition softwares like Paragon, partedit32, Easeus, Norton, acronis, G-parted, macrium reflect, all with no success!
Now I request the learned members to give me a solution that will work, in simple procedure explained, to unhide the acer recovery partition and deleting it without disturbing my present OSes installed on the three partitions. Macrium does not show the PQ Service/EISA partition.
After change BIOS set up, the Acer 6920 cannot boot.
After turn on the ACER screen apperar with F2 (Bios) and F12 (multiboot) appear. If you dont press anything a black screen appear and stay there. If you press F2 or F12 the acer screeen stay with the "Please wait" message on it and stay forever. If dont press anything the black screen appear and stay there. Never got the RAM counting screen.
Looks like a BIOS problems so got the last version, put alone in a USB , put on the note and reboot with try every F key and every Fn+F key but never got a result.
I have a curious issue that has begun to pop up, I believe after I installed a few drivers from laptopvideo2go. Long story short I tried to reset back to the old Acer drivers and I spent a few hours trying to get my video to turn back on.
But here's the actual problem - some games will randomly minimize on startup and then not allow me to switch to them.
I first noticed this with Frets on Fire, where I would boot it up, it would look like it would work and then stay minimized for a while. Click on it in the taskbar and it would either pretend to go to the game or just sit there, moving my mouse to the top left corner. Alt-Tab, similar, sometimes works sometimes doesn't. If I do Switch To in task manager, it works a bit more often but sometimes takes a few times.
I've now noticed this with COD4, Fallout 3, and Trackmania Nations. Fallout 3 causes the game to crash. I've tried stopping as many open programs/processes as possible and it sometimes fixes it, sometimes doesn't.
If it isn't clear, I have an Acer Aspire 8920G with a 9500M GS. I'm currently using the relatively stock 7.15.1(1.7561) drivers.
ok i'm at work right now and was going to remove vista from my 6920 aspire to put on xp because i have vista. Thinking i wouldn't have a problem i simply used the Kill Disk program to format my drives. I put in my xp cd and it will not load because it says HDD not detected, I don't have a cd burner on my work computer but i do have a 4 Gb flash drive is there anything i can do to get it to load up windows xp, Been reading that there is something with XP not allowing install due to the laptop having SATA setup and xp won't work with that? Can anyone please help me. Hoping there is something i can do to maybe load the drivers from my flash drive then install the xp cd.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a T500 (LENOVO 2081CTO ThinkPad T500) running W7 32 bit. Been working fine since September 10. Today when simply trying to logon the fingerprint sensor has stopped working. Laptop had not even been moved, simply resting on desk and then switched on from powered off.
A few times since have received message that "USB device is being installed" with finally "USB Device could not be installed. There is a problem with your device." Device Manager showed a problem with "USB Composite device"
Powered off/on gave same symptom.
Downloaded & installed latest fingerprint software 7wf162ww.exe. Installed OK. USB device appeared to then automatically pick up and reinstall correctly. BUT still unable to use fingerprint to logon or for with Thinkvantage Client Security.
Using Thinkvantage Lenovo Fingerprint Software gives error "Cannot communicate with sensor. Please confirm the sensor is ready."Â

I've also noticed the keyboard around the fingerprint sensor is very warm, almost hot. As if it is being constantly turned on?

Fingerprint sensor is AuthenTec Inc. AES2810
My 1410 has a very strange problem. If I put it to sleep with the lid open, it will properly stay asleep for hours and hours.
However, if I then close the lid, it will always wake up within 5 minutes (I can tell by the status lights). This happens regardless of the lid-closing action I have specified in Windows (hibernate, sleep, none).
If I tell it to hibernate on lid-closure, it will hibernate properly. If I tell it to sleep on lid closure, and close the lid, it will go to sleep and then quickly wake up again. What the hell could be doing this, and how can I fix it?
The laptop is a bone-stock aspire 1410, running windows 7-64, with up-to-date drivers and the latest BIOS (happened with old BIOS too).
I bought my Acer Aspire 5738G laptop last november and this month I experienced for the first time my laptop shutting down by itself while playing cs-source.
The laptop is quite hot and upon searching the net found out that it's most likely due to overheating.
My question is about the ventilation at the bottom of 5738G.
Is it supposedly closed? No holes/slots? Cause I think it's the cause of overheating.
The system doesn't have a way to take-in air
It's like it was designed to be a bottom vent for air intake but then forgot to make holes in it.
I also searched for it's manual and confirmed that it is a ventilation slot.
It even says there "do not cover or obstruct the opening of the fan".
(I've got a screen shot attached. I'm talking about part 6. That part of my laptop doesn't have holes/slots but clearly there should be according to the manual.
i've recently installed windows xp (dual boot with vista), then decided to remove it and do a fresh install. however when i held ALT and kept pressing F4, but nothing happened.
i've searched this forum, and understood that the problem is that xp reset the mbr with its default file. so how can i fix the mbr?
i tried downloading the mbrfix[url]but i didn't work (maybe bcs it's for 5610).
I'm kind of interesting in making a laptop cooler like this
My M1530's cooler (pictures)
im just wondering how the airflow on the 6920G works... where would I place the fan, and should it be blowing air up or pulling air down?
I was under Windows Seven when i got some virus problems. i format my whole HDD and start to have some problems. sometimes the computer randomly stops. Often when i'm copying files or defrag the disk. there, my laptop seems very hot. it shutdown when I play (whatever the game played the temperature are (according to SpeedFan) about 100°C))
I firstly think about dust. so i have clean by removing the trap at the bottom and cleaning the ventilation holes.
That change nothing. my computers stops 10 minutes after the game's started. but it boot right now after it stops, (i've head that in case of a too ward hardware the computer will not boot right now after it stops) metimes after a program ask a reboot and i say yes , the fan don't work at all after the reboot.
I am in the process of doing some minor upgrades to my 6920g, gonna be adding a T9500 and 500gb drive in about a week, and was curious if it is at all possible to add a blu-ray drive to my model. Now I know several models had the option to come shipped with the drive and a quick search on google came up with replacement drives for those models, so mainly I want to know if any of them will work in my 6920-6864.
Also on a semi unrelated note I am trying to find the 6920g service guide to help me with the processor upgrade, but all I can find online are places selling it. I know the link to it can't be posted here but if someone has it let me know and we can get in touch elsewhere.
Anybody got any idea if the Q9000 can be used in the 6920?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had vista installed on my laptop, Acer 6920, (first OS) and it was direct from factory so everything worked fine. I then installed ubuntu and everything still worked fine. I then deinstalled both of those to put on windows 7 RC where all my hardware was working perfectly (minus the fingerprint reader but i honestly couldnt care about that thing) so my computer eventually got pretty bogged down with crap to the point where boot was about 30 minutes. during this whole time my sound seemed to work, but near the end windows stopped finding any internal sound related hardware (the speakers and the mic). For other reasons i did a clean reformat (3 times) and reinstalled 7 Professional 32 bit and when i booted i downloaded all the drivers and everything seemed to install correctly, but when i rebooted the sound still didnt work nor did the mic. the exact error message windows is giving me is "No Audio Output Device found" however when i plug in a headset or a bluetooth adapter + headphones there is audio and it works perfectly. I really need sound to work as some programs crash if they dont detect a sound output and also for monitoring audio recordings.
I have tried installing all of Realtek's drivers. Literally all of them. None of them worked what so ever despite clean installs and deinstalls.
I now am running 64bit and ive almost given up on this problem. I bearly saved this computer and i dont wanna have to buy a new because of sucha stupid issue like this.
More info:
Under the hardware manager in windows there is no tree for sound devices. there was an unknown component which i put forceware on as i thought it was the sound device but no go.

On my acer 5920g, I've installed XP and all drivers without problems, but my sensor keypad does not work like media buttons, but just like single click on touch pad. Which driver I've miss? I've also installed lounch manager driver and nothing happens.
View 4 Replies View Relatedwhen i insert a dvd into the drive, the drive tries to read the disc and the yellow led turns on, after a few seconds it finishes reading and when i go to open it in computer, double click on dvd drive, there is nothing on the dvd. i tried a couple of different dvd's, but the same thing happens.
One thing that makes me think that the problem is software, is my ability to boot from disc. i can boot the recovery disks, windows xp, linux... whatever.
i've updated to bios v1.14 from 1.10, but the problem persisted. i always tried removing upperfilters & lowerfilters and even restoring to factory default settings. nothing worked. i remeber that this happened to me about 5 months ago, and that suddenly it was fixed, but two weeks ago it returned.
