Acer :: Your Experience With The Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ

Nov 27, 2009

I'm thinking of picking up this unit here:

[url]

as it seems like it'll do everything I need.

I'm recording voice overs and singing with it and it's specifically meant to be thin and light for travel - with a good enough screen resolution to edit with the machine while I'm on the go. I'd prefer a Windows XP unit (I'm trying to use Cubase LE and I'm not certain it'll work on Windows 7 Pro) but I can get an IT friend of mine to install XP on it if I need to.

My biggest concern with it - is noise. Is the fan really noisy? I know that I can regulate the fan speed etc. with the little apps that have been created for the unit here on this very board, but how long can one leave off the fan without the unit getting incredibly hot? I'm recording with this unit fairly close to a large diaphragm condenser mic, so really - it needs to be as quiet as possible.

Acer :: UK Power Adaptor For AS1810TZ

Dec 13, 2009

I've got an Acer AS1810TZ (originally bought in the US) which I'm going to be using in the UK. Can someone please confirm:

a) That I just need to get a UK power adaptor to run it in the UK.
b) That this one will do the job?

If either of those assumptions are wrong I'd very much like to be corrected and shown a suitable solution -

Acer :: Aspire Timeline AS3810T-6415

Jul 19, 2009

I notice only 2 vendors have this one in stock in the USA right now, one is tigerdirect and the other is J+R and the price is full retail.

Will other vendors be carrying this model in stock? J+R is a local vendor so I may actually buy it from them but I am waiting longer to see if item comes with Windows 7 preinstalled or if price drops.

I notice this model does include a free upgrade to Windows 7 for orders purchased after june 26th and I didn't order yet so it will definitely include it.

Looking good. Way to go Acer for making something nice.

I really wanted an SSD Drive and Wimax. But I guess this is the only model they are doing and I can't wait forever.

Acer :: Aspire Timeline 3810tz Vista To XP Downgrade

Aug 28, 2009

I own an Acer Aspire Timeline 3810tz. My laptop did not come with an optical drive and now I'm wondering how I might go about downgrading it from Vista to Windows XP? I have already purchased a USB Cd-Rom drive and skimmed through some nLite articles, but I'm still getting the blue screen 0x0000007B error. I'm guessing it has to do something with the SATA/AHCI driver but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

*During my XP install I changed the SATA Mode from AHCI to IDE

*I think I might be using the wrong driver, but I'm not entirely sure.

Acer :: Modifying Aspire Timeline ShortCut Keys

Jul 6, 2009

The follow is the Registry Entry for Acer Aspire Timeline.

I already modified this key to point to Windows Media Player.

Quote:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREInventecLManagerSettingsButtonsBackup]
"Command"="wmplayer.exe"
"Command Type"="1"
"Label"="Windows Media Player"
"Remote Code"="C008"
"Description"=""Windows Media Player"
"Configable"="1"
"Show OSD Only for Legacy"="0"

If you want it to point to other programs, simply

1. copy and paste onto notepad
2. Change "wmplayer.exe" to something else the reason I don't use the full path is because wmplayer is in C:Windows and the shortcut can automatically find anything in C:Windows.
3. If the program is in Program Files you have to use the full path eg."C:Program FilesXXXXXX.exe"
4. Change the Label and description (although it doesn't work as in display the word Windows Media Player when you click it)
5. Save as backup.reg
6. Double Click then Confirm and you are done.
7.There are other keys however I don't recommend modifying them as they are pretty useful like battery saver mode and Wireless Shortcut.
8.To Locate other shortcut keys find the executable path and trace it to the specific keys.
9.LManager (LaunchManager) always hold the key data.

Acer :: Aspire Timeline 4810t-8480 With Windows 7 RTM

Sep 2, 2009

I recently wiped out my Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit partition and installed Windows 7 Professional RTM 64-bit on it. I see the performance of booting up increased (using a SSD), programs opened faster (SSD), and shut down is a bit more faster also. The thing I'm concern about is the battery life. It seems to get shorter battery life.. the meter says 5 hours 31 minute on a 98% battery when windows vista says around 8 hours on that percentage. Both were idling. Is that normal that Windows 7 uses more battery or what?

Acer :: Aspire® 4810 Timeline Vs. Lenovo T410s

Mar 23, 2010

First of all I will admit that I have never used an Acer before (I am a Lenovo/IBM person) and I don't get how this whole brand works. I hope you will be able to help me out. So my notebook is Lenovo 410s and i am very happy with it; now I am helping to buy a notebook for my friend who has similar needs as I and I would recommend her Lenovo again, but hey I just stumbled across Acer and found it interesting. So I'd like to ask a few questions in the hope you will help:

1. Who are the best sellers in the US of Acer computers? It seems to me that Acer, unlike Lenovo, is being sold everywhere and I can't make sense of this mess - i.e. who to buy from.

2. Would be e.g. an Acer 4810 Timeline (or suggest any other type) be able to meet the following:
a) need a quite computer (noise of any kind is especially annoying)
b) need a light computer (carry it everyday ..anything around 4lb should do)
c) need more of a business model: don't do any gaming, only office, web surfing and an occasional video watching
d) need a solid and sturdy build
e) need an integrated webcamp, SD card reader

Now I have to say that Lenovo 410s meets basically all the wishes I've had for a laptop: it's very light (3.8lbs), very fast, fantastic build. The only two issues that I don't like about it: the quality of the screen is subpar and it does get noisy - by that I mean fan activity. But overall i have not seen a more impressive computer than this.
Thus would Acer be able to beat this? What about screen quality? Heat issues? How bad are the speakers? etc. Btw. does Acer offer Solid State Drives with their units?

In sum, can anybody suggest a model that would equal the performance and specifications of Lenovo 410s and make a persuasive argument why to go with Acer and where to possibly buy it? (of course Acer being cheaper is one such argument).

Acer :: The Aspire Or The Aspire Timeline

Jan 13, 2010

I'm planning on getting either both of these computers, Aspire AS5538-1096 or Aspire Timeline 5810-4784. Everything else is understandable except the part of the processor.

The Aspire as5538 comes with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-core Processor L310 1.2GHz, 1 MB L2 cache. While the Aspire Timeline comes with an Intel Pentium Processor DU4199 1.3GHz, 2MB L2 cache. I mean, are intel making pentiums with dual core? Can it beat the Athlon 64 x2 1.2 dual core? Even if it costs more with the Aspire Timeline?

Here are links I found with some detailed information about these two products:

Aspire A5538-1096

Aspire Timeline 5810-4784

My main concern is, dual core, portability, and solid design. In better words, which is the best one?

Acer :: Aspire 1410 (11.6) Keyboard Identical To Timeline 1810

Acer :: Aspire Timeline 5810tz Won't Boot, Can't Access Setup Or Bios

May 7, 2010

I just got an acer aspire timeline 5810tz, which came with vista, so i was in the process of reformatting it to have XP, which i've done several times on my previous laptops. When i changed the bios to IDE, which is what i read was the correct setting (perhaps this is where my problem is?), i found that i could no longer boot the computer or access setup, bios or the boot menu. When i attempt to do any of these things, the computer just sits on the logo screen.

i'm getting fairly desperate at this point, having tried a large variety of solutions, key combos, removing the battery, etc.

Acer :: Brandnew Aspire Timeline 1810TZ G3-Switch Not Working After Formating

Dec 26, 2009

My girlfriend gave me a brandnew Aspire Timeline 1810TZ with build in G3 (UMTS) for Christmas. When i played around with the preinstalled system (Windows 7 Home Premium x64), I could use the hardware switch in the front of the chassis to enable/ disable the build-in G3-Module.

But as you know, the preinstalled OS are normally very slow, so i formatted the System and installed Windows 7 Professional x64. After installation of all drivers from the Acer website, the switch for enabling the G3 didn't worked anymore! I reformated again with Windows 7 Home Premium x64, but there was the same Picture: No, response from the G3-Switch.

The funny thing is: G3 and WLAN share the same physical hardware switch (you have to flip it to the left to enable/disable G3, and to enable/ disable WLAN you have to flip it to the right).

Flipping the switch to the right activated WLAN without any problem!

I have no idea how to fix this (tried every driver i could find).

Acer :: TehSuigi's Upgrade Experience

Nov 14, 2008

It also gave me the chance to benchmark some graphics drivers on a relatively vanilla system, which I'll post some point soon.

In the meantime, while I'm waiting for Steam and Windows Update to finish their respective downloads, I might as well post about my experience.

The Upgrade Itself
After removing the backplate and the fan (which I had already done once, when I cleaned them both out), I had the enviable task of removing the heatsink. For those of you that don't know, the CPU and GPU heatsinks are conjoined by a common pipe of copper. This pipe makes it INCREDIBLY difficult to shoehorn the thing out of the notebook - it took some effort and a little bit of noise that didn't sound good. But, it was removed.

In terms of thermal cooling, give Acer some credit. The thermal pads attached to the graphics card's memory chips are squished under a screwed-on plate that is separate from the heatsink - you can remove it and only the GPU core will be exposed! Thus, the main worry I had about the upgrade was for naught.......................

Acer :: 6920G, Windows 7 Experience

Jan 19, 2009

Thought I'd put my experience with the Window 7 Beta on my Acer Aspire 6920G, for those considering it but not sure whether it works etc.

Installation: Installation went smooth, picked up alot of things out of the box, but for the things it doesn't, you can use the backup feature on the vista partition to create a disc with all the drivers etc. on

Drivers: Well there are some you'll have to get yourself, e.g. Graphics Card drivers, I've got the HD3650 flavour of machine and my drivers are found here: [url]

Another driver that didn't work, and the one from the drivers disc doesn't either is the SD Card reader, however you can get the drivers direct from JMicron here: http://www.jmicron.com/Driver.htm go into the ftp ( there's a link towards the end of the text) and get the driver for the JMB38X not 36X, this driver works a charm.

I can't speak for ExpressCard devices as I don't use them myself.

Sound works out of the box.

Even after installing the drivers for it the webcam refuses to work.

With the drivers from the driver disc created in Vista, bluetooth works............

Acer :: Installing Windows 7 On An 6920G - Drivers, Experience Etc

Jan 24, 2010

Well my PC came OEM installed with Vista 32 Bit edition and I would like to upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit edition (as i get a student discount).

Looking around the forums and internet in general, I have noticed that on the acer 6920g there seems to always be a problem with drivers such as the CineDash, Realtek, TV tuner, Modem, Card reader, Fingerprint, Webcam, Bluetooth etc.. I have also read that you can fix the launchmanager by running in Vista compatiability mode.

If i do an in-place upgrade (going from vista 32-bit to windows 7 ultimate) will it be fine? Also is there anything I should be cautionous of such as the drivers etc..

I would actually really like to do a clean installation but I'm worried that the keyboard "quick" buttons (such as the internet,bluetooth,mail on the side of keyboard will not work)- can someone please confirm if I did a clean installation, would theese buttons still work?

Also I have two games:GTA IV, Call of Duty 5 , will theese both work on windows 7 (or on compatability).

2. Please inform Acer about this, so they know and can offer a solution (especially if you're from United States as this will have greater impact rather than me telling this stuff to Slovak Acer service)

Alright, this is what I got so far about this thing:
-CPU will just go nuts at no specific time (idle, browsing, ...)
-Proccess explorer shows 'Hardware Interrupts' as source of 99.9% of CPU power
-unlogging won't help, only restart does
-updating BIOS doesn't help
