HP/Compaq :: Is ThePavilion Dv8t Quad Edition Graphics Card Upgradeable
Nov 11, 2009I'm thinking about diving into the purchase of the HP dv8t, everything about looks good on paper except that the video card is a bit anemic.
I want to know if the motherboard uses the MXM standard and if the GeForce GT 230M inside is upgradeable in the future or is it soldered onto the motherboard?
Isn't it the replacement for HDX18?

Mar 19, 2009on this 2 heatsink above, different would be the heatpipe near the end. but the end part heatsink on my laptop mainboard below is the nvidia graphics.
so would the "missing" heatpipe causes big difference in temperature? (this 2 heatsink is stated on the web that it is compatible for my model)
when i was playing game, graphics temp could hit 80 to 90. i'm very scare tat the graphics would up lorry again.:mad: current heatsink is the 1st pic which heatpipe is extend to the end.
i hav it disassembled(thanks to Andy for the youtube vid).
this is the heatsink after i hav send it for repair.(i knw they change the whole board). but there hav several layer of copper pad.
now wat shld i do to bring down the temp? i hav jus apply thermal grease to it. but the temp no difference.
Acer :: Aspire 5100 Graphics Card RAM
May 13, 2009I purchased an Acer Aspire 5100 using it mostly for busines and writing. Now, I'd like to watch some videos, have an webcam, and play games, however, the integrated video card handles none of this well. It's slow and will sputter on something as simple as a short 60 second video clip.
I maxed out the 4GB Ram, thinking that Vista was using too much but it did not help.

Acer :: Aspire 5315 New Graphics Card
Mar 5, 2009I've got an Acer Aspire 5315 with the Mobile Intel GMA X3100 in it as standard on the motherboard. Granted this isnt a great card for a lot of (or any) modern games, but I was wondering if it's possible to have another (better) graphics card put in it?..
Maybe a better processor too, because its got a Celeron 550, but the graphics card is priority at the mo.

Apr 9, 2009I have an Acer Aspire 5585WXMi laptop, approx. 2 yrs old purchased in Singapore. It came with Intel's standard Graphics Media Accelerator 950 and I was wondering if there was any possibility of upgrading to the NVidia GPU? When I purchased the laptop I could have paid a little bit extra for the NVidia add-on but decided against (regretting now) so as far as I can tell it should be possible to add on the GPU module?

Acer Aspire V3-571G-6622 :: Won't Recognize NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M Graphics Card
Nov 14, 2014I was playing Minecraft two days ago using the GeForce GT 730M graphics card not the integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics card when suddenly purple squares appeared on the game screen. The purple squares didn't appear any where else. The game crashed saying I had a bad driver. Then the laptop pop a blue screen saying VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE. The laptop restarted as usual. I had this message before but further problems occurred. But this time is different.
After restarting I re-launched Minecraft but the game crashed saying I had a bad driver. I uninstalled the current driver using the programs and features and reinstalled the driver for my laptop found in Acer.com. The issue still continued. I went into Device Manager and found out that the graphics card had a code 43 issue. I found a solution online that said to install the newest driver on GeForce.com.
I did that and it seemed to remove the code 43 but when I went into NVIDIA GeForce Experience it said that my laptop didn't have a NVIDIA graphics card. Thinking it could of been a option that I changed that caused this, I did a refresh, and system restore to still see that my laptop wont recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M graphics card and that NVIDIA Driver Support Service was gone. It allows me to see when the NVIDIA GPU is in use. The system was cool when I started playing Minecraft when the problem happened.

I have successfully upgraded my CPU from a P8400(2.26) to a T9600 (2.8) so was reading through the MXM compatability thread and decided to pull my 9600m GT out just to double check which version it is, so I shut down the machine, removed the back and unscrewed the card, popped it out, comfirmed its the MXM-II type, reseated and rescrewed it back together.
Now I get a blank screen, external monitors dont work either.
I realised I forgot to remove the battery when removing the card, although machine was shut down.
I left it running for a bit with the back still off, felt the CPU and its hot as you would expect but the GPU was cold!

I'm wondering what are some good options to upgrade to. I've seen a couple of card but I'm not too sure which is compatiable and what not. I'll list some of the ones I've seen in the next post. Plz let me know if there is any more info needed.

The ati x1400 has overheated inside of it, and only part of the display shows, rest are lines of colour :P.

Mar 24, 2010well my laptops card melted recently and since my waranty is up i want to get a new one but the "offical" acer repairshop say that it costs 260$ (3650 512 ram) and i simply dont believe them as i have had problems with them in the past if anyone can help and tell me the price or some newer one that might be cheaper and have the same power.

I have been searching around about graphics card upgrade on acer laptops, there are cases where people have upgraded from nvidia to ati and ati to nvidia sucessfully without problems.
Does that really mean as long as the mxm slot is capable of installing the graphics card, and upgraded your bios to the lastest version then it is just PLUG AND PLAY ?

Feb 11, 2009I have a Acer Aspire 5920G (Vista Home with SP1) laptop which I use for general purposes as well as occasional DVDs and a little games.
With the kind help from members of this forum I upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 4GB a couple of months ago but of course my 32bit Vista only uses 3GB which leaves 1GB unused. The laptop's processor is a T7300 at 2.00GHz.
Its NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GT graphics card (with latest driver installed) seems to work quite well but a friend who I occasionally game with said I could go into the BIOS and allocate the unused 1GB of RAM to the card which will improve its performance.
I googled this to check but the articles I read (with my limited technical knowledge!!) seemed to say that allocating extra RAM in the BIOS does not work with dedicated cards and attempts to do so could in fact reduce performance.
I would be very grateful if an expert in this excellent forum who is knowledgeable about graphics cards could please clarify the situation for me.
Basically can I go into the BIOS to increase the card's RAM allocation to improve performance as my friend suggested or is this a waste of time and/or dangerous ?
Looking at the NVIDIA system info, I see that it says Total Available Graphics is 1535MB but dedicated video memory is 256MB. Does this support what my friend says or is it unrelated ?

This 'top' worked flawlessly for a year or so, meaning... I played fps games on high configs... but lately, i've been having some graphic issues...
The game runs fine for about 15 min and then suddenly the frame rate decreases to 1 or even 0.5...this continues for 20 seconds and then normal frame rates resume for about 5 min... and then the process repeats... the vent heats up like crazy...
Now I do own a PS3 and an XBox 360, but sometimes I do prefer classic games(meaning 2006-07) on good old faithful...

I've just been doing a little vista tweaking and noticed some NVIDIA stuff on startup.
What are these for. As far as i'm aware i have no NVIDIA hardware. Are these essential (I'm thinking not).

Jun 23, 2009I bought my laptop last year around christmas time. Surprisingly the nvidia 7000m performed very well. I was able to run Gothic 3 on low specs, and also fallout 3 which ran well on medium specs. But about 3-5 months ago the performance deteriorated a lot. it got so bad that i cant even watch movies on it anymore. All the framerates, on games it ran fairly well before, are unplayable now. I just hope i didnt fry the gpu because it did overheat before, but i just thought it was normal. Ofcourse if i new about this forum before none of that might have happened. There many useful posts here...

Feb 12, 2008if it's possible to upgrade my laptop's graphics, because I'm attempting to play a few games on it, and it runs them sooo slow. I don't think the Processor or RAM are an issue, but surely the GFX card is. Another thought I had was maybe upgrading my RAM to 2 GB, which could possibly give it a boost because I think my vid card draws some memory from the system?
