I'm thinking about diving into the purchase of the HP dv8t, everything about looks good on paper except that the video card is a bit anemic.
I want to know if the motherboard uses the MXM standard and if the GeForce GT 230M inside is upgradeable in the future or is it soldered onto the motherboard?
Isn't it the replacement for HDX18?
Just picked this up. Let me know if I got a good deal. I wanted to buy a Dell, but didn't want to spend over $1500 for the Studio 16 XPS.
Dell was offering the Studio with Core2 Duo and did not offer a sale on the i7 version. Hope I dont miss out on the LED LCD screen.

the gt 230m or the gt 320m? I looked up the 320m on notebook check but I'm getting blank info. also, which one would you guys prefer between the dv7t and dv8t?

View 7 Replies View Relatedi just bought hp dv8t quad laptop recently. the first time i turned on, treble bar (blue horizontal bar to adust treble that is supposed to appear only when i touch that touch tone above keyboard) came up on middle of screen intermittently. everytime i run other application, this bar would come up and stops other application. i spent over 1 hr with hp tech to fix it. now everytime i turn on, this blue bar still comes up but after i adjust treble via tone control above keyboard, it disappears. tech says there is no hardware defect, but i am wondering if others are like this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedRealizing that my computer is now a little over 2.5 years old, I had a little time to think about whether I should even think about going over to a brand new notebook. Given the specs of new notebooks these days (and a lot of people know here that I spend quite a bit of time at the HP website/FTP), I was wondering what everyone here thinks about me going for a Quad Edition notebook.
In case you're wondering, I use my dv6500t notebook extensively mainly because I am a UCSD Computer Science/Engineering student who does a lot of activities on the computer both casually and for work, for a good portion of the day, everyday. If I get a new notebook, I plan on using it extensively as well.
The specifications for the dv6500t that I currently use is listed in my sig. It additionally has a 12-cell battery which at this moment can only charge up to 58%, and a rather broken left TouchPad button. Warranty is pretty shot at this point, since I had the 1-year standard (which I have no regrets with).
Now, the Quad Edition notebook that I was specifically looking at was the pre-customized HP Pavilion dv6-2190us notebook:...........
Any views on the differences (and value) between HP Envy 15 and HP dv6t Quad Edition?
As far as I can see, with the maximum upgrade options selected below, for an additional ~US$1,300 all the Envy 15 gives you over the dv6t Quad is: 16GB DDR3 RAM instead of 8GB (valued as $500 difference on the Envy 15 customisation page) 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4830 instead of 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M external vs internal optical drive (query whether this is an advantage, weight vs convenience) 1920x1080 instead of 1366x768 display extra 9 cell battery (valued as $125 difference on the Envy 15 customisation page) it's a bit thinner, lighter and 'prettier' What do you think? Is all this really worth $1,300? (Or if you accept the values given by HP of the extra RAM and battery, is $675 a fair price differential for the HD4830, higher display resolution and overall build?)
As a follow-up question, what do you think of these specs generally - or is it worth waiting for further customisation options for the Envy 15 (eg, the dual SSDs in RAID 0 promised by all the HP marketing) and for eventual price drop (when will either of these occur)?

How this laptop was purchased
I had shopped for a while to look for a new computer to replace my aging dv6000t from back in the Windows XP days. My options were the HP Pavilion dm3t and the Sony VAIO CW. I visited a Best Buy to check out some of the laptops, and I can say that I was absolutely repulsed by the build quality of the Dells these days. They suck. Period. What really won me over from the Sony CW was the build quality of the dm3t. The aluminum finish really is outstanding. More on that later................
I am selling a VERY, VERY Brand New DV6t Quad Edition Core i7-720QM. The notebook has only been opened and turned on to ensure everything is working. This is a CTO (Customized to order) from HP. This is NOT a refurbished notebook. It is very, very Brand New.

Â Naturally, I lost most of my programs (which I have reinstalled). Â However, I can't seem to get mt fingerprint scanner to work. Â I've re-installed the SimplePass software as well as the divers. Â I tried a hard reset and reinstalled the current validity sensor drive. Â I still can't seem to get the fingerprint reader to come alive.

I've heard some folks mention recalls on the dv9000. I can't find any info on the HP website that mention it, though.
Anyone know what the specific recalls were?
I bought a dv9000t about 2 years ago for college. Almost exactly a year after I bought it, I turned it on to find the screen completely screwed up. It displayed only grey (almost black and white alternating) stripes horizontally with organic shapes of varying shades throughout the screen. I hooked it up to an external monitor where I was able to use it in safe mode only, but with extremely limited color gamut (i.e. the cutout filter on photoshop) so that gradients appeared only as blots of color. It also displayed the screen with white dots and lines across everything.
After some investigation (with no help from HP) I came to believe that the graphics card was, for lack of a better word, fried. This having happened some week or two after the warranty ran out--hp wanted some $100 to even officially diagnose the problem, and unofficially it would cost $600 more to fix. What I am wondering is if the problem actually was the graphics card, and in any case, is this laptop worth anything more than sitting on my shelf? (I bought a sager np 5793 and haven't looked back, but my brother needs a laptop and there sits the HP...)
i own a notebook hp cq61, the graphic card is shared, can it be upgraded or changed? I would really like to improve its graphics performances.

I wonder two things. . . 1. if someone might please advise about the preferred brand --(and why, since quality matters more to me) and 2. if someone could please advise about the best choice for the dv4t processor and graphics card? My Problem Is I Would Like To Disable Intel HD Graphics and have NVIDIA Run the Computer and My Display: Can I Do That?
Whenever I play a game, sooner or later, the computer just promplty shuts down. The part of the computer which holds the graphics card is then generally very very hot, which leads me to guess that this is the problem. Note that it sometimes can run for several hours without complications, but other times it wont even take half an hour. It's getting very frustrating and this combined with a lot of other issues makes it an altogether very unpleasent experience using HP.
I have updated the bios, but not changed anything in it - no overclocking or anything.
Via MS windows update there is an update to Nvidia Quadro FX 770m graphics. I installed it, however the screen back light brightness got capped and would not go beyond 2 points (out of 5 points) and hence i had to revert back to original drivers.

My screen starts pixelating when i play games and occasionally my graphics driver fails and I get a blue screen signaling that my graphics card is definitely dying.
My question is: Can I ask HP for any upgrades or improvements since this apparently a manufacturing defect and it is not my fault? Can I be compensated for the 2 weeks + that it will take for my computer to be fixed?
I bought a dv9000 about two years ago and recently the motherboard died. Since I'm not exactly rich at the moment I haven't bought a new laptop, but instead my father gave me his dv6286 because choose to upgrade.
But the geforce 7200 in the dv6268 isn’t any good for gaming, so I though if it was possible to take my geforce 7600 from the dv9000 and put it in the dv6286.

I have inspiron 15r se with 1TB HDD.
I would like to add a mSATA card to my system to be able to use IRST.
I am skeptic because I have read online that systems which were not shipped with 32 GB mSATA card, doesn't have mSATA port for later installation.
When I purchased the system at that time dell had the option for adding 32 GB mSATA card in the customization section, but now dell has removed the whole customization section from the website. And in the pre-configured models, there is no option for mSATA card.
I want to save money now and get this notebook with the regular DVD RW drive. Maybe later I want to upgrade to Blu Ray. However, is this even possible? If so, does it void my warranty?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy dv8t should arrive thursday. It has the 320 7200rpm hd in it. I've been sitting on the fence on purchasing a ssd as a boot drive for it. I have narrowed the ssd's down to the 30gb OCZ vertex drive on newegg [url] for $99 + $45 hd cage from new modes [url] for the setup.
So, I'm asking myself if by doing this, I will notice a tangable difference in the computer performance, or if i should just wait awhile and see where the prices and speeds go in the next few months. If the upgrade will make a noticable difference, then I think i should buy it... but if its something that will just increase benchmark scores, then its something that i can hold off on.
