HP Envy Dv6t-7200 :: CTO Quad Edition Notebook / Fingerprint Reader Not Connected
Sep 29, 2014
I have an HP ENVY dv6t-7200 CTO Quad Edition Notebook. Â I recently had a complete system failure and had to reinstall the Windows 8.1 operating system. Â Naturally, I lost most of my programs (which I have reinstalled). Â However, I can't seem to get mt fingerprint scanner to work. Â I've re-installed the SimplePass software as well as the divers. Â I tried a hard reset and reinstalled the current validity sensor drive. Â I still can't seem to get the fingerprint reader to come alive.
I have Envy dv6t-7200 Quad Edition notebook and I recently installed Windows 8.1.  I can't seem to find how to enable bluetooth. Some things I can narrow it down to:  1) I am pretty sure that model DOES come with bluetooth (I think I remember using it before, but not 100% sure).Â
I can't seem to get the specs page of this product, but I bought it directly from HP site ... Â 2) I downloaded and installed the Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth driver and Ralink Bluetooth Software driver that I found on the HP Support & Downloads site. Â 3)Â I don't have any mention of bluetooth in my Device Manager (generic or otherwise). From first appearance it would seem I don't have bluetooth on my notebook but again, I'm pretty sure I do have.
Any views on the differences (and value) between HP Envy 15 and HP dv6t Quad Edition?
As far as I can see, with the maximum upgrade options selected below, for an additional ~US$1,300 all the Envy 15 gives you over the dv6t Quad is: 16GB DDR3 RAM instead of 8GB (valued as $500 difference on the Envy 15 customisation page) 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4830 instead of 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M external vs internal optical drive (query whether this is an advantage, weight vs convenience) 1920x1080 instead of 1366x768 display extra 9 cell battery (valued as $125 difference on the Envy 15 customisation page) it's a bit thinner, lighter and 'prettier' What do you think? Is all this really worth $1,300? (Or if you accept the values given by HP of the extra RAM and battery, is $675 a fair price differential for the HD4830, higher display resolution and overall build?)
As a follow-up question, what do you think of these specs generally - or is it worth waiting for further customisation options for the Envy 15 (eg, the dual SSDs in RAID 0 promised by all the HP marketing) and for eventual price drop (when will either of these occur)?
The following specs / upgrade options were used for the above comparison, all from HP Direct, major differences are starred...
I have a HP ENVY 17-j070ca, and a few months ago my fingerprint reader stopped working. I have tried running the program multiple times, but it too refuses to launch. I have reinstalled all the drivers, and have used task manager to close out of everything that might cause the program to not launch.
I just bought and Im the proud owner of a  HP Envy 15-k064nd laptop.  I would like to disable the fingerprint reader because it keeps asking for codes while I'm typing on the keyboard. How I can disable the fingerprint reader?
I have just bought the HP Envy 15-j140na directly from HP. The laptop is fantastic, however I am having a problem with the fingerprint reader. The computer comes with the simplepass software version 8.00.57 already installed.  The problem I have is that once I have set up the fingerprint reader with simple pass, it doesn't prompt me to scan my print during the windows login and i have to log in normally. I have checked all of the settings and it should be set up, however there is no prompt. Just to note that everything else works fine. I can sign into websites on IE no problem at all using the fingerprint reader. It can be slightly frustrating as this defeats the point of having a fingerprint reader.
I'm not able to use my finger print reader/simple pass now that I've downloaded windows 8.1 Been reading some of the other questions and difficulties people are having but haven't been able to still get it to work. Â I have an HP Envy M6 1125dx 00179-60246-20486-AA0EM 64-bit Intel Core i5 Running Windows 8.1
Realizing that my computer is now a little over 2.5 years old, I had a little time to think about whether I should even think about going over to a brand new notebook. Given the specs of new notebooks these days (and a lot of people know here that I spend quite a bit of time at the HP website/FTP), I was wondering what everyone here thinks about me going for a Quad Edition notebook.
In case you're wondering, I use my dv6500t notebook extensively mainly because I am a UCSD Computer Science/Engineering student who does a lot of activities on the computer both casually and for work, for a good portion of the day, everyday. If I get a new notebook, I plan on using it extensively as well.
The specifications for the dv6500t that I currently use is listed in my sig. It additionally has a 12-cell battery which at this moment can only charge up to 58%, and a rather broken left TouchPad button. Warranty is pretty shot at this point, since I had the 1-year standard (which I have no regrets with).
Now, the Quad Edition notebook that I was specifically looking at was the pre-customized HP Pavilion dv6-2190us notebook:...........
Just picked this up. Let me know if I got a good deal. I wanted to buy a Dell, but didn't want to spend over $1500 for the Studio 16 XPS. Dell was offering the Studio with Core2 Duo and did not offer a sale on the i7 version. Hope I dont miss out on the LED LCD screen.

This model has customized & quick-ship option. I notice the customized version is fitted with Geforce GT 320m - For i7 processor (no other option), while the Quick-Ship model is fitted with GT230m WITH Physx.
I've heard about Physx before, and I always think it is another component bought separately (at least for PC desktop 1-2 years ago). So, is this Physx processor always present with all Geforce GT230m & 320m series, or does HP actually fit this additional processor as a bonus ?
I look on NVidia's technical specs for 320m & 230m, and Nvidia specifies that they are both Physx-ready. What does "READY" mean here ? Ready to be fitted with an optional Physx feature, or does it mean both have already integrated the Physx into 320m & 230m ? ...or do I misunderstand something ?
I am selling a VERY, VERY Brand New DV6t Quad Edition Core i7-720QM. The notebook has only been opened and turned on to ensure everything is working. This is a CTO (Customized to order) from HP. This is NOT a refurbished notebook. It is very, very Brand New.
Specifications I've listed below.
I also just recieved this notebook from FED-EX last Wednesday, February 24th 2010. Notebook also comes with a 2 Year Accidental Damage Protection Warranty (Began on 02/24/10 - Expires on 02/24/2012)
My Reason for selling: The standard 1366x768 resolution in every notebook (including this one) is just way too low for me. I am accustomed to using a 1920x1080P resolution. I am simply selling it to buy a notebook with a 1080P resolution.
I will be receiving a dv6t Quad edition soon. I am planning to replace the original HDD with a SSD. The original HDD will go in a external eSATA enclosure.
Questions/comments:
- Are there any step-by-step guides out there for replacing the HDD?
- I have read in forums that doing a fresh install on SSD is better than cloning your existing drive. Is that correct?
- In case of any issues with the installation on SSD, I can always put the original drive back in.
- If I dont delete the MBR on the original drive, will it create an issue in the external enclosure along with the new MBR on the SSD?
I'm thinking about diving into the purchase of the HP dv8t, everything about looks good on paper except that the video card is a bit anemic.
I want to know if the motherboard uses the MXM standard and if the GeForce GT 230M inside is upgradeable in the future or is it soldered onto the motherboard?
I have a dv6t quad running Windows 7 with Bluetooth. I want to use BlueSoleil to link to my devices but I get an error message with BlueSoleil saying "Can not start Bluetooth. Bluetooth hardware is not found."
every time I change the volume it goes into the separate volume popup window and whatever else I'm doing gets minimized if it was fullscreened, it's really annoying. How do I turn this off? I've been told by a HP custom service guy to uninstall Quick Touch, but I can't even find it anywhere.
(are there any other things I can do to optimize this computer?)
Just received my brand new, shiny, sparkling dv6t Quad Ed. laptop. I would like to make sure that everything is right with it in the 21 days window otherwise return the machine for a replacement.
- What all should I check/test and how, to make sure nothing's wrong with it?
- What are some of the recurring, common issues I should check for?
- How can I stress test this laptop apart from wPrime? I dont have any games.
I already know the 320M Drivers are not yet release. Done.
But I can't find a way to install ANY driver I downloaded. None of them will install. Giving me message that there is no compatible hardware.
The only one that will install is from HP's website, but that only installs NVIDIA HD Audio. It doesn't install display drivers at all. W(T)F. Where is the display driver in that install?
I am stuck on the 1280x720 resolution and I cant go up to my native resolution at 1366x768.
I am tired of already spending countless hours downloading and searching for a driver that will work.
Whenever i turn on my laptop it connects to the wi-fi for a brief period of time and then disconnects and i have to reconnect to the network manually. after doing this, it takes an extremely long time to autoconnect and says "connecting to the network is taking longer than usual".
I have the "Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230" Wi-Fi Card/Adapter and the Driver version is "15.10.3.2" i'm not sure if this is the newest version but i have tried to update and wasn't able to successfully do so.
Also this occurs on any wifi i connect to, even wi-fi that i connect to for the first time takes an extremely long time to connect (2-5 mins).
I highly recommend the standalone desktop version by Upek.
The cheapest I could find was buy.com ($41.08 with 5% off coupon available everywhere). [url]
Mine came with the 5.8.2 version of their software, but the build date of the one posted in the "Upek" thread was a bit higher, so I used that one... ((not so) New Upek Fingerprint Reader Driver)
The reader operates exactly the same way as the one in the laptop (duh? same brand and same software).
If you have encrypted files from your laptop, you can open them on your desktop and vice versa...
The USB3 were working, but I had to do a WIN7 restore (full format of the HD).  The USB3 ports are not working now, they will light up a external HD, but the HD never shows up on My Computer.  I've downloaded and installed "Fresco Logic USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver (SP55093)", but Device Manager still says there is no driver loaded. I've run Windows Update--everything is up-to-date. I've run HP Support Assistand updater--no updates available.  I've uninstalled the Fresno Logic USB Root Hub, re-installed the Intel Chipset Driver, rebooted the machine and watched it search for a driver. No driver found to install. So, I run the installation program for the Fresco Logic USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver (SP55093) and reboot. Device Manager still says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)  There is no driver selected for the device information set or element."  Fresco Logic USB 3.0 Host Controller is listed under "Other Devices", not "Universal Serial Bus Controllers."
Right before I used my recovery partition on the Envy 6 i bought less than a month ago, I tried setting group policy in order to take control of my Administrator account. I got an error message: "Group Policy is not a feature of this edition of Windows 8.1."  I have experienced security issues My Envy 6 (in my opinion, nothing to envy about it...) since I got it.    What happens, first and foremost, is that someone other than I hijacks my computer and starts using my machine as a distributed resource. When I look at the resource monitor, memory usage stays at a steady level around 30%; the Window for the disk (Disk 0, I presume) stays at about 100%, for many minutes after I start working. There is evidence that copies of the countless Apps are being pushed through that channel to someone unknown to me.  In other words, it is as if I were working in a large company where administrators are able to share my computers memory and storage (and also, copies of programs on my machine) with others.  Yesterday, the fourth time I used my security partition, (after I had looked in the Task Manager and seen more than 50 tasks scheduled to run only when the machine was idle and it was on AC power) I decided to see what would happen if I let the fully charged battery work.  What I saw was a machine freaking out. I saw a sequence of screen shots first four, then a flash of a task checklist, then a series what looked like screen shots again--this time fourteen of them. I watched this happen three different times. Then, the machine prompted me for a "Capital A Administrator" password, which I did not have.  I looked around at resources here and at Windows, and discovered that I could access boot options by turning on the machine and pressing the Escape key. I ran through the list of options there, and finally chose EFI, where I eventually dsicovered two different ways to boot to an unknown internet address. That's when decided another tip to Geek Squad was in order (I bought their service contact when i bought the machine, what the heck). This time there was pretty much incontrovertible evidence that something was wrong at the Internet security level.  I realized this is way to much information. I will simply once again ask the question: Is it possible that my brand new machine really does have an edition of Windows 8.1 that doesn't include the capability for group Policy management? Â
Have a HP Laptop with windows 7 and I cannot logon. When I try to logon using my password, I continuously get message, "The user profile service failed the logon. The user cannot be loaded."Â
i have been trying to figure this out for a week with no luck and even no luck through dell.
I have a new latitude e6400, i originally set my fingerprint, then decided to clean install vista 64 bit, after tons of problems, i then abandoned the effort. Went back to the original vista business 32 bit, however, everytime i turn on my computer, during pre-boot it asks me to scan my finger to get access to my computer, i just want to disable it, but it will not let me, i went into security setting in dell control point, and in that funky embassy software, i cannot find a way to disable the finger print reader, i dont want to uninstall just disable, any insights?
I just received my E6400 from Dell today and setup the fingerprint reader. I noticed it only works when I boot up the notebook and then I scan to get to the windows login screen.
I was wondering If I can set it up so that I scan to login to windows rather than typing in a password. I was also wondering If I could configure it to login to websites for things such as email since I know you can do that with Windows Fingerprint Reader.
I got an E4300 through work and set up the fingerprint reader at the request of my IT department, but I hate this stupid thing. It never works and I always have to manually override it.
I asked them to take it off, but it's "firm policy" for our laptops to have the reader turned on.
Anyone know how to turn it off? It's controlled through Dell ControlPoint and maybe a proprietary program we have.
I just updated to Firefox 3.5 today and much to my dismay it has disabled the add-on for my fingerprint reader to log into things in Firefox on my XPS M1530.
Anyone have any idea on a workaround or an updated add-on?
