Acer :: Laptop External Boot W/o Video Card
Sep 18, 2008I have this question, if you have detachable video card, and once you unhook( uninstall it physically) would you still be able to see the Video on external display?

View 7 RepliesI was able to resurrect it several times. Don't know how but it would work for a while then crash again. The card was a 9600M GS DDR2 and the laptop model was an Acer Aspire 6930G. Judging by the picture below of my start up screen. Would you say it's directly related to the video card? The windows noise would play with that screen but recently, it doesn't even play the noise anymore.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought my XPS 1710 dell laptop about 2 yrs and some months ago at about ~$4, 150. About 3 weeks ago my GeForce go 7900 GTX died... I've never OC'd any device on my laptop and its been used in normal conditions..
Has anyone else had any problems with their GeForce go 7 series video cards?
did a clean install of Windows XP and this is what I get...
1. when my laptop boots up the bios screen comes up with a bunch of vertical lines...
2. when windows boots up there is a bunch of vertical lines...
3. simple vga mode works... no vertical lines...
4. when I try to install the drivers for the 7900 GTX I get a BSOD...
Warranty...
So far the video card has been backordered twice... when I get called again
and if its for the same reason I'm going to ask what the next course of action will be...
I doubt there are any remaing Geforce Go 7 series video cards...
I have a G72 with the Radeon 5470 gpu. Â 2 days ago my wife received a bluescreen on Windows 7x64 stating that the video driver had stopped working. Â From that point on the G72 would not make it to the desktop without the screen going dead. Â The machine boots to safemode fine. Â I tried as much as I could think of to resolve this issue but eventually backed off her data and restored to factory. Â The problem persisted and I ended up disabling the ATI card in the control panel. Â The machine seemed to be working after that.
I begin the long process of brining the OS up to current. Â About 2 sets of updates after Win 7 SP1 the problem came back. Â I booted to safe mode and checked the driver and discovered that it had been re-enabled. Â I have tried disabling it again and rebooting. Â Sometimes it stays disabled thru reboot but sometimes it does not. Â At this point the machine will go to a dark screen (not just black video but dead) after I sign on. Â This was happening without regard to the enable or disable status on the ATI card.
Â
So... Â I attempted to do another rehang of the OS and got about half way thru. Â Windows setup now tries to reboot and after the machine comes up, the screen goes dead. Is there a way to disable the card in bios? Â Can the card be physically removed?
can i change out the acer 6920 laptops video card? if so, how good of one can i put in?

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am hoping i am able to replace my video card in my 5920g.
I believe it is MXM2 and as such can be replaced.
The current card is the nvidia 8600m-gs and I'm very much afraid it isn't going to last very long, i bought this machine to play games (COD4, Bioshockand such), since the 8600 is included in the bad cards list you can see my dilemma.
My questions are,
Can this card be replaced?
If so what can i replace it with other than the 8 series nvidias?
How difficult would it be to replace? I'm not afraid to open it up and i've done a bit of work on other systems.
I have an Acer 5920 laptop. for specs : [url]
I have had a long and complicated history with the product. I bought it back in March.
Then, I got a virus on the system. I did not get a restore CD with the laptop so I installed XP on the laptop (initially it came with Vista). This installation was on a separate hard drive than what came initially with the laptop. Also, my monitor got broken so I had to replace it with one from an older HP laptop of mine.
Now the product had some problems, but ran with XP fine. There were problems with my video card since the drivers I needed to install were integrated with Vista.
Now, I finally reinstalled Vista on the laptop. Everything is almost back to normal... except I have one BIG problem. My device control reads that I have a "standard vga video adapter" for my video card. This is entirely false as I have an Nvideo card.
I have tried installing drivers from Acer's website but to no avail. I have gotten the error message :"Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware"
I just got an acer extensa 5420 yesterday.
Graphics are supposedly at radeon HD 2400 XT, with 256megs of dedicated vram and the option to use regular ram as hypermemory.
My problem is, whats the deal with the clock speeds?
This screen shot should explain everything....Clock speeds are half of what they should be.

i just recently bought this laptop and was first satisfied with it's features.
But then.... 64MB of system video memory?
Come on Acer. And so I was thinking if I could add some graphics like buying a decent video card for it.
I heard that video cards for laptops are in PCI express.
Can my Acer use it?
IF and only IF this Acer Aspire doesn't have the ability to use a new video card, is there any other way I could improve its graphics like getting some of the built-in shared memory and putting it in the video?
Just bought one of these ACER ASPIRE 7720G laptop's from ebay afew days back. It comes with the Nvidia Geforce 8400M GS, but i'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade this card with something that packs more of a punch.
If it is possible, what would be the ideal card for this setup?
The processor is the Intel® C2D T7300 Processor, 2 gb ram, 250gh hd space.
Well after a long rally of emails with Acer technical support we've come to the conclusion, my video card is dead/fried.
I was wondering with the Aspire 9410, it comes with a Geforce 7300GO. Would the video card be a DIY replacement?
I'm working on this Acer Aspire AS7520-5311 laptop, on Vista 32, with a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M. Trying to tweak some graphic settings last night somehow I guess I deleted the video drivers for the nvidia card. I went into the device manager and deleted all of the display drivers. When it rebooted it tried to install it again. For some odd reason, it installed a "Standard VGA adaptor". So my desktop resolution is back to the former settings but any remotely graphic demanding programs will not run. I've went to Acer's website and nvidias website and cannot find the exact NVIDIA GeForce 8400M driver. I've tried everything listed under the model number on acer's website and it will install, reboot, but when comes back up. It still only shows the same standard vga adaptor.
This did not come with a restore disk for some odd reason!
Now before I just blame Vista, transfer all of my data, erase it, and then put XP on it.
I'm sure If I could somehow find the correct driver for the video card it would help.
Where do I find a mobility driver for my Acer TravelMate 6592 with a HD 2400XT video card?
The one on Acers site is acting weird.
I get no additional tabs under Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced.
(so no way to manage tv out, powerplay or things like that)
Starting the ATI Catalyst Control Center only give me a chance to change resolution.
some desktop settings which are grayed out and nothing else.
It looks like some kind of initial settings/wizzard or so, but I can't get past this.
I can find no Mobility driver for the HD 2400XT card on ATI's own site.
Newest mobility driver (direct link) won't install, as the hardware isn't supported.
I currently have a: Acer Aspire E

Is there a way that i can change my video card memory. It says im using 32MB but my maximum is 1792MB. How to I make it run at 1792MB?
i'm looking towards the future when the 240m graphics card that comes with the laptop will be obsolete. is it possible to change out the 240m mxm graphics card for the 260m?
View 8 Replies View Relatedhere are the specs of my Acer Ferrari 3400:
Acer Ferrari 3400
ATI radeon 9700 mobility
2 gigs of ram
Dual boot with Win XP pro and Ubuntu 7.04 feisty fawn
Newest BIOS and software updates from Acer homepage
Few days ago I started having a problem with my Acer Ferrari 3400 laptop. It all started one morning when i tried to boot my computer.
I booted with ubuntu 7.04 feisty fawn and right after the operating system loaded the X graphical interface, the screen went black and the computer freezed.
I rebooted and tried again with Windows XP (I use a dual boot with Win XP and Ubuntu), and this time I got as far as the Windows loading screen. Then the loading screen turned black and the computer just rebooted itself.
I turned off the windows "auto-rebooting in case of error"-option and tried to boot with Win XP again.
This time I got a "blue screen of death (BSOD)" right after the Win XP loading screen. The BSOD indicated a problem with ati2dvag.dll and said that the "device driver got stuck in an infinite loop". Also the technical information said:
** STOP: 0x000000EA (0x8A56C218, 0x8A5BDAD8, 0xBACDFCB4, 0x00000001).
The numbers in parenthesis are always bit different each time i try to boot.
I googled the error and it seems this kind of a error message is very generic and could be the result of nearly anything ranging from software problems to hardware malfunction.
So this is what I have tried to do so far:
- I booted Win XP with VGA mode -> Windows booted normally, but as I try to increase resolution the same BSOD appears and I have to reboot.
-I uninstalled all ATI video drivers from Win XP and windows booted normally. Of course, without video drivers, the performance of Windows was very sloppy. But it worked with higher resolutions.
- I installed the newest Omega Drivers for the vid card. Windows booted normally, but still had sloppy performance. I tried dxdiag and it showed that DirectDraw&Direct3D acceleration are unavailable. It also showed that video card memory was n/a. Win XP worked with high resolutions.
- I tried to boot Ubuntu linux with a generic vesa driver and it booted normally. Changed back to radeon drivers and it didn't work.
- I ran the Memtest 21 times and got no memory based errors
- I cleaned Win XP radeon drivers with DriverCleaner and tried a fresh install of radeon drivers. Didn't work.
- Finally, I did a Win XP recovery (reinstall) with the CD:s that came with the computer. The result: same error as before and now I can't even enter the VGA mode because the windows tries to raise the resolution right before entering the desktop -> BSOD
I am trying to disable integrated video card, because it eat my ram. In BIOS (Inshyde) didn't enabled advenced menu On offical Acer site don't uploaded drivers for Windows 7 x64 and BIOS image (( Supports don't answer, just send me respond to email about acceptance my post.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI own this model since May 2013, and all this time I have this problem:
Â
In my drivers list the NVidia GeForce Mobile sometimes is present and most of the time not.
When it suddenly appears it will stay for a few days or weeks and I can play all the modern games happily. But then something will happen computer will reboot and the driver is no longer in the list, and for month until it will appear suddenly again.
Â
This already happened about 5 times. Unfortunately I cannot go to the repair because I bought this device in Taiwan and now I am in rural Russia.
Â
I suppose it might be a microcrack in the PCB or maybe a bad sensor or a bad cable, who knows. This is definitlely not a driver or software issue. Or is it?
Â
This device is very good, but without GeForce it looses about 25% of it's value.
I own 15" Aspire 5738 laptop. I have hooked up 27" external monitor to it. I am facing a problem with 27" monitor. The display on the external monitor doesn't cover whole screen. When I power it up, the fan comes on for about 3 or 4 seconds, and the hdd light flashes three times in a row, then waits a second or two, the flashes three times again, then goes black. The dvd drive ejects and will spin up a disc, but thats it. I tried swapping in a known good hard drive and nothing helps. I also tried re-seating a few of the easily accessible modules, such as the ram and wireless. I still have not seen a single flicker of the LCD screen. No beeps, nothing...

Just got this m1710. Has 2.13 cpu, 100gb, 7950gtx, 4gig.
Bought it cheap cause the monitor wasn't working, but would work with external monitor.
Reinstalled xp sp3 without format and started installing driver from dell for bios, chipset, system utilities, system firmware, network, audio, video(which didn't seem to work) and input devices.
At some point during one of the installs and I'm pretty sure it was one of the dell installs not windows updates, that the monitor just popped on and was working. So, my figured ok it works I will now format the drive and do it all over again. Well, didn't work that way. I installed everything again, but the monitor doesn't work now and if I try to install nvidia drivers the computer freezes at some point.
I hope I'm just missing some driver or order or something.
I'm assuming everything works, because like I said it started working and kept working till I started all over.
1. If I press the on switch, it doesn't turn on the laptop right away. I have to press it twice or three times and then it starts booting up. This occurs whether I am using the AC or just the battery which is fully charged.
2. My next problem is probably connected to problem one. If I try restart, it will not restart and I have to press the on/off button twice and then maybe it will reboot.
All the above just started after I tried increasing the memory of my laptop, 5315 to 4gb. Then I had a problem the screen went black but I realized later that my battery wasn't fully charged and when it was, my laptop was able to boot and work properly.I replaced the memory with original 2gb of ram.
Is the Acer laptop able to turn on with just AC and not the battery ?
My laptop wont boot. Here is what is on th screen:

I have tried changing the boot priority order so that the Network card boots last. Sadly, this had no effect. I disabled network boot and the laptop then showed 'Operating System not found' without the 'PXE' error messeges. Setting defaults also does not work.
why havent there ever been gpus when you could just plug it in and out, look like a small usb hd or something lol, thatd be sweet, no mother board bs or anything just plug and play, maybe someday? im sure there is alot of reason but i just though id ask, it would be rather neat.

Since day 1, I started to notice a strange behavior when I connect an external monitor to the VGA port of my laptop. No matter the resolution, the monitor shows horizontal and vertical blurry lines just like if it was a refresh rate issue.
I reported the issue to Dell, and they replaced my monitor, but the lines are still there...I checked the refresh rate and updated the video card drivers with no luck...
Have any of you experienced something like this?
I'm not using a docking station and I'm running windows XP with extended desktop...
