Dell :: XPS 1710 Laptop, Dead GeForce Go 7900 GTX Video Card

Sep 13, 2008

I bought my XPS 1710 dell laptop about 2 yrs and some months ago at about ~$4, 150. About 3 weeks ago my GeForce go 7900 GTX died... I've never OC'd any device on my laptop and its been used in normal conditions..

Has anyone else had any problems with their GeForce go 7 series video cards?

did a clean install of Windows XP and this is what I get...

1. when my laptop boots up the bios screen comes up with a bunch of vertical lines...
2. when windows boots up there is a bunch of vertical lines...
3. simple vga mode works... no vertical lines...
4. when I try to install the drivers for the 7900 GTX I get a BSOD...

Warranty...
So far the video card has been backordered twice... when I get called again
and if its for the same reason I'm going to ask what the next course of action will be...

I doubt there are any remaing Geforce Go 7 series video cards...

Dell :: Dead Screen Or Dead Video Card

Mar 29, 2008

I am at my wits end with my e1705. I had a sudden meltdown about 2 weeks ago... screen went scrambled, BSOD,etc...

Performed diagnostic, memory on video card came back as bad. Replaced with new card (from Dell), reinstalled OS, completely reinstalled nVidea drivers from Dell (Used driver cleaner too)...

Everything went smooth for a couple hours after this was completed yesterday (full diagnostic showed no errors), but after booting up today, after about 5 or 10 minutes of use screen freezes and turns either solid cyan or black... a small pattern of thin lines appears also.

Dell :: Nvidia Geforce GO 7900 GS

Mar 8, 2008

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705, Core 2 dou, 2 GB Ram, Very powerful laptop. I have an ATI Video card in it that I've been trying hard to upgrade to a Geforce. I bought 6 till with no luck at all, I bought all of them off ebay, the last one was a couple days ago, when I got it, I installed it and everything was working perfectly, I was so happy cuz this is the first one that actually works, after 1 hour of using it, red flickers started appearing on the screen, I restarted, tried different drivers, tried placing it again.. no luck at all . Now I have different colored lines and blinking pixels all over the screen, the background changes colors.. yellow, red, green.. and its not just on windows.. Bios, safe mode, everywhere.. I put my old ATI back and everything is working fine. I'm planning to send it back again to the seller, I attached some pics. I have a 90 w adapter but I dont think its a heating or power problems.

Acer Aspire R7 571G :: Looses Connection To GeForce Video Card

Oct 12, 2014

I own this model since May 2013, and all this time I have this problem:

In my drivers list the NVidia GeForce Mobile sometimes is present and most of the time not.

When it suddenly appears it will stay for a few days or weeks and I can play all the modern games happily. But then something will happen computer will reboot and the driver is no longer in the list, and for month until it will appear suddenly again.

This already happened about 5 times. Unfortunately I cannot go to the repair because I bought this device in Taiwan and now I am in rural Russia.

I suppose it might be a microcrack in the PCB or maybe a bad sensor or a bad cable, who knows. This is definitlely not a driver or software issue. Or is it?

This device is very good, but without GeForce it looses about 25% of it's value.

Dell :: Is My Video Card Dead?

Nov 16, 2009

My laptop hasn't worked for about a month now and I'm at the end of my rope!

I used it fine in the morning before I went to work, shut it down properly, but then couldn't get the screen or LCD panel above the keyboard to even light up, let alone work when I got home that night.

At first I thought it was just the screen, except that an external monitor doesn't work and the LCD panel is gone as well, which worries me.

When I did all the "function + power" tests the screen lit up but unfortunately instead of displaying the wavey colours I just got a sort of creamy white on it and the LCD panel still did nothing. The audio tests worked fine and scared the hell out of me .....

Dell :: Dead Video Card - E1705

Feb 25, 2008

Alright, as you can see in my sig, I am the "lucky" owner of a GeForce 7800. I bought my E1705 RIGHT before the Core Duo 2 and 7900 GS wave, but I haven't had any real problems (besides the annoying overheating of the 7800, never caused a crash, just low FPS sometimes during gaming).

Well I went to check my laptop this morning, and after the Windows loading screen (during the Welcome screen) it would glitch and get all scrambled, then jam up.

So I went into safe mode, un-installed all the video drivers, rebooted and it worked fine. Went and downloaded the newest drivers possible from the Official Dell site just to make sure I wasn't using faulty drivers.

But halfway through the install the screen would glitch and what not, I had to go back into safe mode and uninstall the drivers again and it worked fine.

This laptop has no warranty or anything, so if it truly is that the video card finally died I guess my only option is to buy a 7900 GS or GTX?

Just looking for some opinions (I'd hate to buy a card and find out it was some other problem with the laptop, even though I'm not a fan of this 7800 ) to make sure this truly is a video card problem, and to see if anyone knows where I might find a GS/GTX for decent prices.

The situation:

-2 year old E1705 (no warranty)
-Bone stock except 4GB RAM upgrade & PA-15 power adapter
-Running 18KFanGUI
-Case has been opened numerous times and cleaned of dustbunnies

The problem:
-GS7900 crapped out in December. BSOD and color grid everywhere (looked like plaid)
-After reading here and elsewhere about the problem, figured it was a video card failure. Bought a refurbished 7900GTX from eBay and installed it (Feb/March). Works great ......

Dell :: E1705, Dead Video Card

Mar 4, 2008

The screen on my 1705 has recently become cranky... scrambled, alternating between being on/off, inevitably leading to a BlueSOD (with nv4_disp error message.) Managed to check/update video drivers, but computer is pretty much non-functioning now.

Only thing that I can think of is that video card overheated and fried. In hindsight, I realize that I had spent a couple hours watching 24 with the computer not a good surface to allow ventilation.

Any other opinions before a I spend a couple hundred bucks on a new card?

Feb 7, 2009

I'm getting the same thing -- artifacts during bootup, drivers won't initialize properly, safe mode works in VGA mode but there are patterns throughout.

I also went into Dell diagnostics and in the second diagnostic program (not the initial one that comes up, but the second one you actually interact with after exiting the first one) it will actually check the memory of the video card, contrary to what I've read around here ......

HP/Compaq :: HP DV9500T Video Card Dead

Jan 20, 2009

I bought this hp dv9500t laptop in oct, 2007 and is now out of warranty.

I have updated Vista to SP1. Yesterday, I was playing a song in windows media player while the lid was kept closed. Suddenly, the song went into trrrrr like sound and the machine rebooted on its own. After having rebooted on its own, the display went into lowest bit depth (6 bit/600x480!), I had to manually change it to 32 bit / 1680x1050.

Then to my shock, I found, the video adapter was not Nvidia and it defaulted to default generic VGA driver in display properties.

Later I tried reinstalling the nvidia driver and even upgraded it to latest from laptopvideo2go site. But nothing solves the issue, it never identifies any nvidia display driver.

Looks like the display card got corrupted after upgrade to sp1.

What options do I have now? How much will it cost me to get the video card replaced, if it is determined that the card is corrupted? I am in India now, so I am clueless where I need to send this machine to get serviced?

Dell :: Dead 7900 Gs In My E1705

Dec 8, 2008

I have a dell inspiron e1705 with a nvidia geforce go 7900 gs gpu installed. I was playing call of duty 4 on saturday and just after 5 mins of game play blue lines go across the screen and the screen goes black. The audio was still playing. I manually shut down the comp and restarted. When the dell screen came up after restarting orange and blue lines were visible. I could see the Microsoft loading bar but after that disappeared the screen went black and I could not log into windows. I downloaded the latest driver from nvidia, installed it, and restarted, but the same thing happened, Microsoft loading bar and then black screen. After about a minute of the black screen, a blue screen pops and says windows is shutting down form a hardware error to prevent damage and it also says something about a failure of the display driver.

Anyway, heres all the things I did so far to try to fix my problem;
-did a system restore to 2 days ago which didn't solve the problem.
-ran a memory diagnostics test and passed..
-ran a scan disk, no problems.
-uninstalled the video card and reinstalled with the latest driver which still did nothing.

Just curious of the performance playing crysis on the 1730 im looking hard at the 1730 upgrade from my 1710 but want a little input from 1730 owners does it play crysis on pretty high settings and play it well ? Crysis just choked my 1710 down to where it wasn't worth playing it on my laptop.

My M1530 has a 7-pin S-video output which should work with my little composite adapter (it does with other laptops). The GeForce 8600M GT video driver only enables the S-video when he detects there is a device attached to it. Is it possible to force-enable the S-video-output so my composite output will work?

HP/Compaq :: Video Performance :Pavilion Dv5t With NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS

Jan 30, 2009

Dv5t, the problem of having non-optimal /under par performance of Nvidia Graphics accelerator 9200/9600 used with Windows Vista.

I have done some troubleshooting myself, but yet to find a working solution.

My configuration is :

Pavilion Dv5t CTO Notebook.
15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ LCD.
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7350 (2.0GHz)
Current Running Resolution 1680 x 1050.
3GB system RAM.
NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS with 256 MB of RAM.
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

The degraded performance I am talking about is not specifically for games and 3D applications. Nor is playing games and running 3D rendering my primary purpose. The various benchmarks and tests mentioned at this site maybe more directed towards running specific games and other applications............

Dell :: 9300 Dead. Video

May 31, 2008

Well it looks like my dell 9300 finally bit the dust. It has been a great machine. Dell is going to replace it under complete care.

I do not know what I am going to get but I am hoping for a 1720 with the 8600 video card.

How does the 6800go compare to the 8400 or 8600?

I have searched here and google and can't seem to find any comparisions between these specific cards. I think mine is too old as all I could find were old links comparing them to older cards..

Should I be satisfied with the 8400 or should I fight for the 8600?

Dell warranty has been great. I have never had a problem and they fixed all issues promptly. I don't want to take advantage and fight for an 8600 if the 8400 performs as good or better than my current card.

Acer :: Will Allocating More RAM To My 5920 G's NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GT Graphics Card Improve Performance

Feb 11, 2009

I have a Acer Aspire 5920G (Vista Home with SP1) laptop which I use for general purposes as well as occasional DVDs and a little games.

With the kind help from members of this forum I upgraded the RAM from 2GB to 4GB a couple of months ago but of course my 32bit Vista only uses 3GB which leaves 1GB unused. The laptop's processor is a T7300 at 2.00GHz.

Its NVIDIA GeForce 8600 M GT graphics card (with latest driver installed) seems to work quite well but a friend who I occasionally game with said I could go into the BIOS and allocate the unused 1GB of RAM to the card which will improve its performance.

I googled this to check but the articles I read (with my limited technical knowledge!!) seemed to say that allocating extra RAM in the BIOS does not work with dedicated cards and attempts to do so could in fact reduce performance.

I would be very grateful if an expert in this excellent forum who is knowledgeable about graphics cards could please clarify the situation for me.
Basically can I go into the BIOS to increase the card's RAM allocation to improve performance as my friend suggested or is this a waste of time and/or dangerous ?

Looking at the NVIDIA system info, I see that it says Total Available Graphics is 1535MB but dedicated video memory is 256MB. Does this support what my friend says or is it unrelated ?

Acer Aspire V3-571G-6622 :: Won't Recognize NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M Graphics Card

Nov 14, 2014

I was playing Minecraft two days ago using the GeForce GT 730M graphics card not the integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics card when suddenly purple squares appeared on the game screen. The purple squares didn't appear any where else. The game crashed saying I had a bad driver. Then the laptop pop a blue screen saying VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE. The laptop restarted as usual. I had this message before but further problems occurred. But this time is different.

After restarting I re-launched Minecraft but the game crashed saying I had a bad driver. I uninstalled the current driver using the programs and features and reinstalled the driver for my laptop found in Acer.com. The issue still continued. I went into Device Manager and found out that the graphics card had a code 43 issue. I found a solution online that said to install the newest driver on GeForce.com.

I did that and it seemed to remove the code 43 but when I went into NVIDIA GeForce Experience it said that my laptop didn't have a NVIDIA graphics card. Thinking it could of been a option that I changed that caused this, I did a refresh, and system restore to still see that my laptop wont recognize my NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M graphics card and that NVIDIA Driver Support Service was gone. It allows me to see when the NVIDIA GPU is in use. The system was cool when I started playing Minecraft when the problem happened.

System Specs:
Acer Aspire V3-571G-6622
NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M with 2 GB of dedicated VRAM
Intel HD 4000 graphics
15.6" HD LED LCD
4 GB DDR3 Memory
Acer NPlify 802.11a/g/n + BT4.0
Windows 8 64-bit

Dell :: M1330 Bios A15 + Latest Intel Drivers = Dead Video

Feb 10, 2009

Was having an issue on bios A12 (I think it was) with the brightness (function keys were not adjusting it properly), so updated the bios to A15 and the latest intel drivers as advised. (have intel, not nvidia).

Now the screen on boot is either blank or with only blue lines.

Can hear it booting into windows so the system on the whole seems fine.

Have got it working successfully on an external monitor via the vga port. I have tried to reapply the A15 bios and reinstall the intel drivers but not changed anything. The display properties in windows shows the laptop monitor as stuck on 640x480 and low colours. screen is off on 640x480 and if upped to the only other option 800x600 gives blue lines.

Dell :: M1710 Graphics Card Dead, Help

Oct 16, 2009

I was playing GRID on my Dell XPS M1710, and got a load of corruption and lines on the screen, and the laptop shut went into a kind of safe mode. It has never been overclocked, and dust has been cleaned recently.

Now, when I turn it on, I get artifacts and corruption even at the BIOS screen. I've tried reseating and reinstalling the drivers, but it hasn't worked. I'm going to call dell tomorrow, but as it's out of warranty,

I don't expect much help. There's no way I'm buying a new GPU, (they cost more than the laptop is worth), so I'm going to try and fix it. I'm going to use the oven fix as a last resort,

and would appreciate advice on anything else I can do to fix it, as well as any tips when performing the oven trick. If anyone is selling a 7900GTX/7950GTX for a decent price, you may have a buyer
