How to turn on Virtualization technology on Inspiron 1427 (Dell - Phoenix Bios).
I have tried multiple power adpaters, and I cannot get the power LED to light or the laptop to turn on. It was fully charged when I shut the lid. 15 minutes later when I opened the lid, no LEDs and no power.Â

View 2 Replies View Relatedi was wanting to boot from a usb stick to try out ubuntu. and acer rep told me that in order to do that, i needed to set a password in the bios system. so i did so, and turned off security to set the password. when i boot now, i get that little blue screen to put in my password, and i know what is is, but when trying to turn that off and using f2 to enter the bios normally it won't let me. it will ask me in a different format for the password.
My password that i put in is blue. and it takes me to the default screen where i can put in another password to get into windows. acer told me i needed to send in the computer and pay 100 dollars which isn't gonna happen anytime soon. i really need to get into the bios system to change the order up the boot sequence so i can try out ubunu. or any other program i want. i just tried to update the bios driver, and it still asks me for a "sato security password" just to clear the air. it has some number and letters associated with the pop up. Â
i was wanting to install ubunu, but i can't get into the bios without a password. someone told me it's' a administrative password. someone told me it has nothing to do with the hdd password. i need to change the order of the bootup for this to work. id rather not pay for this. i also know removing the cmos battery won't do any good either. is there a cracker or patch i can use? i was gonna download the latest software for my acer aspire m5-583p laptop but didn't because it would ask for a password.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm looking at picking up an AS1810T to replace my Samsung NC10 netbook and my HP DV8230US laptop.
I was looking at an MSI earlier due to its better warranty (3 years) and better price ($450 as opposed to $600)...but unfortunately, the lack of VT on the T6600 is a deal-breaker.
Does Acer have Virtualization enabled on the AS1810T? The SU7300 has it, but I want to make sure that there's nothing else that would prevent me from being able to use the laptop properly...as VMWare and XP Mode are requirements for what I'll be doing with it.
I want to enable in bios the Virtualization Technology but there is no option for that.
Is there any way to do it?
Any alternative bios?
I bought the Aspire 8920 from Best Buy here in Canada. You can view the specs of my configuration of the 8920 here.
I absolutely LOVE the laptop. I love high resolution; I love the Blu-ray drive; I love the 4Gigs of Ram; I love the 2 hard drives which give me almost 3/4 of a terabyte. Acer even sent me an additional power adapter and additional battery for FREE (I think the agent I was talking to was just having a good day). Everything about this laptop is awesome! Except one thing...
My configuration comes with the T5750 processor. It turns out that the T5750 doesn't support Intel Virtualization Technology. I've been intending on installing Windows Server 2008 as my primary OS so that I can use Hyper-V (I've heard great things about it, but I haven't really touched it too much yet), but I just found out that you MUST have a processor that either has Intel VT or AMD-V or else Hyper-V will not work. Currently I use VMWare Workstation for my VMs but I can't have any 64-bit guest OSs because of the same problem... my processor doesn't have VT. Don't ask me why I didn't research all this stuff BEFORE buying my new laptop... I'm still kicking myself for that.
So... onto my question(s). There are some configurations of the 8920 that have processors that support Intel VT (ie. T7500, T9500, etc.). I want to, again, upgrade to a machine that has a processor that I need... but I love the Aspire 8920 too much so I think I'm just going to get one of those higher configurations. However, there is a little problem. Intel VT comes turned off by default. The only way for it to be turned on is in the BIOS. I've read in several forums that a few manufacturers are either forgetting to add this BIOS setting or just not doing it at all.
Question 1) To anyone reading this who has an Aspire 8920 with a processor that supports Intel VT (Find out if your processor has VT support):
a) What processor do you have?
b) Do you know what configuration of the Aspire 8920 you have (ie. 8920-6671)?
c) Can you confirm if there is a "Virtualization" or "VT" setting in the BIOS?
Question 2) To anyone reading this that does a lot of virtualizing on their Aspire 8920:
a) What virtualization software are you using?
b) What guest OSs are you running and what are you using them for?
c) Do the VMs run well for you?
Question 3) Since were somewhat on the topic, is there anyone that has some experience with Hyper-V and virtualization under Windows Server 2008; and if so, what are you personal opinions on it compared to other virtualization solutions out there?
Need to enable virtualization on acer aspire E5-571P?
View 3 Replies View Relatedi'm searching for a notebook, and so far, the Acer TravelMate 8471-944G32N Timeline seems to be exactly what i need. however, i really have to have a notebook that supports hardware virtualization/intel VT. the CPU does support this, but i've failed to find info on the web whether the mainboard and BIOS support this feature too on the notebook. acer support hasn't managed to deliver me an answer in three tries now.
so, is anyone here who knows the answer or who owns one of these notebooks (or a similar one) and can try it out?
I'm running the Windows 7 RTM on my Acer. One of the main things I was excited about in this build was the Windows XP Mode, which requires the use of the Virtual PC 2007 Beta in conjunction with a specialized add-on (both are available for download here).
Well, long story short, the Virtual PC installed with no problems. The Windows XP Mode module also installed, but when it tried to run I got the following error:
"Virtual Windows XP could not be started because hardware-assisted virtualization is disabled. Please enable hardware virtualization in the BIOS settings and try again."
I got on the phone with Acer Tech Support--yes, the guys who charge money for their services--and although they tried their best, the only solution they really gave me was to update my BIOS from version 1.00 to version 1.13. To no one's surprise, that didn't help.
My processor is an Intel Quad-Core Q9000, which according to both the Intel test utility I got through Microsoft and Securable, my processor supports this function. Securable even wanted to run a deep-level check and see what was preventing it from running, but for some reason it said it couldn't function properly in a 64-bit environment, so I'm still in the dark.
In my BIOS there appear the following options at the top of the screen: Information, Security, Boot, and Exit. That's it! No Advanced tab, and no options even remotely pertaining to the processor.
Is there any way to make what I hope are simply hidden Advanced BIOS options visible?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSince 2 years ago, I owned an Acer Aspire 9420. It is a 17" laptop with Intel CPU (Intel C2D T5600). According to Intel website, T5600 processor have Intel Virtualization Technology. However, for unknown reason, there is no option to turn ON Virtualization in the BIOS. Even Acer doesn't provide BIOS update that support this feature. My works involved VMware simulation & this prevent me from running 64 bit guest OS. Since buying another laptop seems not worth at all & Acer Aspire 9420 is a strong laptop to do heavy job, I'm determine, what ever it takes, I will enable Virtualization on this laptop.
For the past 2 years, I have working hard to achieve my objective. I has search & search in the internet and I found a couple of article about hacking the BIOS to enable Virtualization. This is a few forum's threads & articles I found:-

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of purchasing an FW series laption. I called Sony technical support to ask if Win 7 can run XP compatibility mode, which as I understand it requires hardware virtualization to be enabled. The support technician said: "Recently we attended a brief training session about this. We were told that XP virtualization would run on Win 7, but you have to download a virtualization program from Microsoft." Does that statement make sense? Regarding this program you download, is this idea consistent with running XP compatibility mode as you guys understand that?

View 8 Replies View Relatedhow I can get hardware virtualization enabled on my HP dv5 1160
specs :
intel core 2 duo p7350
3gig of ram
nvidia 9600m GT
I've looked in the bios (version f.16) but i couldn't find anything.
apparently, dv2 with Athlon Neo does support hardware virtualization.
On AMD site we find:
Processor:
AMD Athlon™ Neo Processor for Ultrathin Notebooks
Model Number:
MV-40
Frequency (MHz):
1600
L2 Cache Size (KB):
512
Socket:
ASB1
Manufacturing Tech (CMOS):
65nm SOI
Wattage (W):
15 W
Virtualization
Yes
However, dv2 with the latest bios (F.27A) has the virtualization disabled and of course HP doesn't give you any options to change that. Too bad, since that means that you cannot run a 64bit virtual machine or even WinXP mode in Windows 7 on this laptop.
For those who've configured their laptops with the Core 2 Duo P7550, does this CPU have support for virtualization?
Information on this particular model is extremely scarce at the moment. Intel doesn't even have it listed on their site. I ask because Windows 7's Virtual PC and XP Mode require hardware virtualization support and I personally don't think it's worth the extra money to upgrade to a P8XXX series CPU just for it.
So P7350 and P7450 do not support virtualization but the P7370 does, so I'm guessing that the P7550 doesn't either and only the P7X70 models (which are only offered in HP's business laptops) have virtualization support.
I am planning on buying the new Studion 1557 with the i7 CPU.
I would like to verify that with a Windows 7 Pro x64 as host, I can use VMware's VMware Workstation and Sun's VirtualBox for virtualization of both x64 and x86 guest operating systems.
If any one on this forum tried this, or know the answer, I would appreciate it very much
how to enable hardware virtualization yet for the InsydeH2O BIOS?
I use Virtual PC heavily for work and need this feature.
I am thinking of buying a Sony Vaio FW since Windows 7 is now pre-installed. However, I had heard that virtualization was disabled by Sony.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt seems that sony is telling people no one has complained about VT, and they have not received any calls.
If you feel that you have been given false info call and file a complaint because the canadian pages which i have printed and taken photos of dont' show any sign like the signapore pages which states vt is not supported.

my new job requires we use VMWARE and on my sony well things didn't go well.
So i know that sony had it disabled in the bios..... So i Initiated a complaint via my mastercard stating how sony on their candian site when looking at the specs doesn't list that it is disabled and that u actually have to search the site etc...........
My Sony Vaio is VGN-FZ31E , i've already read the thread from bogart (How to Enable Intel VT and AHCI on a Napa/Santa Rosa platform Phoenix BIOS Vaio laptop) about activating virtualization and i ve set the register to 001 but SECURABLE always shows that ivt is not supported !

Virtualization still not enabled
I've read that with some Dell laptops, the BIOS does not support virtualization, even though the CPU does.
Is this the case with the Precision M6400/M4400 (ie. can hardware virtualization be enabled in the BIOS of these laptops) ?
