Mar 8, 2010Since 2 years ago, I owned an Acer Aspire 9420. It is a 17" laptop with Intel CPU (Intel C2D T5600). According to Intel website, T5600 processor have Intel Virtualization Technology. However, for unknown reason, there is no option to turn ON Virtualization in the BIOS. Even Acer doesn't provide BIOS update that support this feature. My works involved VMware simulation & this prevent me from running 64 bit guest OS. Since buying another laptop seems not worth at all & Acer Aspire 9420 is a strong laptop to do heavy job, I'm determine, what ever it takes, I will enable Virtualization on this laptop.
For the past 2 years, I have working hard to achieve my objective. I has search & search in the internet and I found a couple of article about hacking the BIOS to enable Virtualization. This is a few forum's threads & articles I found:-

Sony :: Vaio ZGN-Z690 Shows Virtualization Technology (VT)
May 13, 2009I ran Intels Processor Identification Tool, and it shows VT as enabled. I haven't installed VMWare yet, but I will shortly. Also, I haven't updated my Bios, but the VGN-Z690 bios update might be a possible solution for other(just a wild guess, I have no way of varifying).

Jan 9, 2015For some reason when connecting to my UE Boom speakers, the sound volume is about 70% as loud as when playing from any of my other devices, such as my HTC One or my wifes Ipad. Â I have checked all the settings, volume is maxed out at 100%. Â I have reinstalled the latest drivers for both the bluetooth and the audio device:

I did find a setting under manage audio devices >> sound >> communication tab, that lowers the sound by 80%. Â But I disabled this feature and it only seems to be linked to the internal speakers.

It also seems like I have issues at times trying to connect to my bluetooth speakers, but not always.

Dec 14, 2008I just bought used Aspire 3680 laptop, I was told it only had harddrive problem,
however It have few more problems.
1. it won't save bios settings.
2. it won't always boot sometime it takes 3-4 tries before it will boot.
3. when it finally boot it will randomly freeze after 2-10 minutes.
I try new harddrive, reset the memory, unplug the battery.
memtest shows the memory is fine.
Acer Aspire V3 571G :: BIOS V1.13 Doesn't Have UEFI Settings?
Nov 6, 2014So I have bought this Acer laptop for 1 year, and it's BIOS came with V1.0 didn't have UEFI setting, the default is LEGACY. After trying updating that BIOS version to V1.13 successfully, I still don't see the UEFI setting, when I check in a software called HWiNFO64 Program, it says my laptop BIOS is capable of UEFI BIOS. So my main questions are....How can I have UEFI setting in my BIOS? What should I do?Â
My specs: Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz, Nvidia Geforce GT 640M 2GB, RAM 8GB, HDD 750GB, Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 x64 (Will upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro x64 if I can change my BIOS to UEFI boot).
Acer :: Virtualization / Hyper-V On The Aspire 8920
Sep 17, 2008I bought the Aspire 8920 from Best Buy here in Canada. You can view the specs of my configuration of the 8920 here.
I absolutely LOVE the laptop. I love high resolution; I love the Blu-ray drive; I love the 4Gigs of Ram; I love the 2 hard drives which give me almost 3/4 of a terabyte. Acer even sent me an additional power adapter and additional battery for FREE (I think the agent I was talking to was just having a good day). Everything about this laptop is awesome! Except one thing...
My configuration comes with the T5750 processor. It turns out that the T5750 doesn't support Intel Virtualization Technology. I've been intending on installing Windows Server 2008 as my primary OS so that I can use Hyper-V (I've heard great things about it, but I haven't really touched it too much yet), but I just found out that you MUST have a processor that either has Intel VT or AMD-V or else Hyper-V will not work. Currently I use VMWare Workstation for my VMs but I can't have any 64-bit guest OSs because of the same problem... my processor doesn't have VT. Don't ask me why I didn't research all this stuff BEFORE buying my new laptop... I'm still kicking myself for that.
So... onto my question(s). There are some configurations of the 8920 that have processors that support Intel VT (ie. T7500, T9500, etc.). I want to, again, upgrade to a machine that has a processor that I need... but I love the Aspire 8920 too much so I think I'm just going to get one of those higher configurations. However, there is a little problem. Intel VT comes turned off by default. The only way for it to be turned on is in the BIOS. I've read in several forums that a few manufacturers are either forgetting to add this BIOS setting or just not doing it at all.
Question 1) To anyone reading this who has an Aspire 8920 with a processor that supports Intel VT (Find out if your processor has VT support):
a) What processor do you have?
b) Do you know what configuration of the Aspire 8920 you have (ie. 8920-6671)?
c) Can you confirm if there is a "Virtualization" or "VT" setting in the BIOS?
Question 2) To anyone reading this that does a lot of virtualizing on their Aspire 8920:
a) What virtualization software are you using?
b) What guest OSs are you running and what are you using them for?
c) Do the VMs run well for you?
Question 3) Since were somewhat on the topic, is there anyone that has some experience with Hyper-V and virtualization under Windows Server 2008; and if so, what are you personal opinions on it compared to other virtualization solutions out there?

Jul 12, 2009I'm running the Windows 7 RTM on my Acer. One of the main things I was excited about in this build was the Windows XP Mode, which requires the use of the Virtual PC 2007 Beta in conjunction with a specialized add-on (both are available for download here).
Well, long story short, the Virtual PC installed with no problems. The Windows XP Mode module also installed, but when it tried to run I got the following error:
"Virtual Windows XP could not be started because hardware-assisted virtualization is disabled. Please enable hardware virtualization in the BIOS settings and try again."
I got on the phone with Acer Tech Support--yes, the guys who charge money for their services--and although they tried their best, the only solution they really gave me was to update my BIOS from version 1.00 to version 1.13. To no one's surprise, that didn't help.
My processor is an Intel Quad-Core Q9000, which according to both the Intel test utility I got through Microsoft and Securable, my processor supports this function. Securable even wanted to run a deep-level check and see what was preventing it from running, but for some reason it said it couldn't function properly in a 64-bit environment, so I'm still in the dark.
In my BIOS there appear the following options at the top of the screen: Information, Security, Boot, and Exit. That's it! No Advanced tab, and no options even remotely pertaining to the processor.
Is there any way to make what I hope are simply hidden Advanced BIOS options visible?

I removed all bluetooth drivers listed in device managment prior to each install. Â With 0 success.

Sep 27, 2008I just upgraded my 5315 to 2 gigs ram. Now I would like to increase my video memory to more than 8 mb. Doesn't seem to be a way to do that.
Now that I have more memory, can I not? use more of it for my graphics. 8 meg isn't much memory

Resuming from sleep doesn't work. It is just black. I have to shutit down and that works fine. It appears that a BIOS upgrade is needed and I downloaded the latest BIOS and tried to update it. It uses some 'InsideH2O' update app. Well it goes to reboot and when it tries to apply the BIOS, it keeps saying that it is an invalid firmware image. I've verifiedd that this is the correct BIOS file. I tried other BIOS versions and none will apply, always getting the error. I've researched the utility, extracted the config and BIOS. I'm tempted to tell it to write without verify (its that fustrating).

One option, that seems to saved most people is to disable Secure Boot. No matter what, I cannot do this. It never saves. I followed the official steps of powering off, then power on, set the admin password, disable Secure Boot, save and exit. Secure Boot always stays enabled. I've tried probably 30 times, 10 different ways and it just won't stick. I also noticed that I cannot change other settings in the BIOS. I can set some to a different value but they always revert back. I cannot get the function keys setting to stay on Function Keys. It always defaults back to Special Keys after reboot. Same thing goes with enabling F12 for boot menu.Â

I've tried removing the coin battery, which has a charge, shorting out the contacts holding it for about a minute, removed power battery and power cable, letting it sit but still no good. I've also tried removing the hard drive. Where is the BIOS data being stored and can it be wiped?

I've been considering getting an Acer laptop but this is starting to steer me away. Definately not getting a Gateway.

Steps I have taken:
1.Disabled Virtualization in BIOSÂ
  Result: Speccy and hwinfo64, 3rd party utilities show VT-x is available but disabled
2.Enabled Virtualization in BIOS
  Result: Speccy and hwinfo64, 3rd Party utilities show VT-x is not available
3. Repeated above steps after updating BIOS
 Result: Same problems

Jan 19, 2015Laptop still under warranty. I recently had a motherboard and HDD replacement. I wanted to install Windows myself, but the BIOS was set to UEFI, and I couldn't seem to boot off of a USB drive. So I switched it to Legacy, booted from the pendrive, and installed Windows just fine.

For whatever reason, I went back to try and change the setting to UEFI. Now the laptop switches on, but refuses to boot. I get a black screen, with no logo or any prompt whatsoever to access the BIOS.Â
I read a bit and seems I need to remove the BIOS battery, let the memory clear itself to reset BIOS settings to default, and try again? If it matters, I re-installed Windows 7 64-bit.

i7 must support virtualizaion, while time setting is gray-out, I think this is either a security issue or a BIOS bug, but I had same problem with 2013 Feb BIOS, and also update to 2014 latest BIOS, same problem here.

My only problem is its temperatures from the first day i bought it - especially during summer months.
I found some threads that mention downvoltaging as a possible solution and o downloaded all the appropriate software. The thing is that my CPU temperature remains at 84 - 90 C and as all tutorias agree i need to make experiments to see over which voltage my laptop is not crashing and having blue screens. Has anyone set up a similar laptop (or a laptop with similar configuration) to tell me the voltages used to make it run?
