I want to run a Virtual PC . After googling I got some instruction. Some of the people suggest to change in bios. They suggested go to Bios-> Security -> System Security -> Enable virtual. But when I tried that. I didn't find the system security under Security. what should I do? How can I enable virtualization in my pc?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAs you are very well aware... attempts at enabling hardware VT by 'hacking' the Insyde H2O EFI bios have not gone very far. While these has been success (kudos to Igor Levicki for pursuing it) with the other series of VAIO, the Z series has not been hackable till date and thus one of the most important and supported/advertised feature of the included Intel processors (P8400, P8600, P8700, P9500 and P9600 -> All Supporting VT as indicated by their official Intel pages 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5)
Microsoft has just release Windows 7 RC (the best version of Windows, as claimed by some of the most popular blogs in the world) and one major feature in its toolset is the Windows XP Mode [url] and it is clearly indicated by Microsoft in their download page (Windows Virtual PC: Download) that for this important software compatability feature to work, hardware VT must be enabled and supported by the computer.
Since hardware VT is a feature of the Intel processors, us VAIO owners do not see Sony's logic in disabling it entirely without giving the owners of the machine any choice to enable it at a later time. Even if it is a unsupported feature as far as Sony goes, why cripple it? Why not have an option in the bios which would allow users to enable it by themshelves?
We hope that Sony listens to us and releases a bios update which either:Enables VT by default.Gives a option in the BIOS to enable it.This affects almost the entire lineup of laptops (not sure about desktops) in the VAIO series. Sony stands to loose nothing but rather gain another feature in its cap for being pro consumer and listening to the needs.
I have enabled Virtualization through BIOS after updating it to v3 still the intel utility doesnt show virtualization is enabled:
Steps I have taken:
1.Disabled Virtualization in BIOS
Result: Speccy and hwinfo64, 3rd party utilities show VT-x is available but disabled
2.Enabled Virtualization in BIOS
Result: Speccy and hwinfo64, 3rd Party utilities show VT-x is not available
3. Repeated above steps after updating BIOS
Result: Same problems

Since 2 years ago, I owned an Acer Aspire 9420. It is a 17" laptop with Intel CPU (Intel C2D T5600). According to Intel website, T5600 processor have Intel Virtualization Technology. However, for unknown reason, there is no option to turn ON Virtualization in the BIOS. Even Acer doesn't provide BIOS update that support this feature. My works involved VMware simulation & this prevent me from running 64 bit guest OS. Since buying another laptop seems not worth at all & Acer Aspire 9420 is a strong laptop to do heavy job, I'm determine, what ever it takes, I will enable Virtualization on this laptop.

I have a W530, with i7 and 16G standard setup. I want to enable HV-X and found they are marked as Disabled, and gray-out in BIOS, also date is gray-out also.
i7 must support virtualizaion, while time setting is gray-out, I think this is either a security issue or a BIOS bug, but I had same problem with 2013 Feb BIOS, and also update to 2014 latest BIOS, same problem here.

I was having many problems with the old Win 7 installation, so I converted to Ubuntu and did a clean install of Ubuntu 14.04. Since then I can't use VirtualBox for 64 bit guests. How do I enable virtualization so that I can use VirtualBox 64 bit guests mode? Whenever I try to set up a guest operating system on Vbox, it only allows 32 bit guests. Everything I have read on this subjects keeps coming back to the fact that this machine is not supporting virtualization. I have been told to go into the bios and enable virtualization but I do not see that option in the bios.

I bought a new G510 Lenovo Laptop but I cant quite use the dedicated amd vga. Everytime I install the given amd drivers from lenovo's official page and I check the Device Manager in windows 8 I see that the only enabled graphic card is the integrated Intel HD 4600. I tried to install the Intel drivers first but I get a error message that says that the computer does not meet the minimum requierments for installing that software.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy machine is Lenovo Z580 with Windows 7. Some time ago I accidentally installed Linux Mint on my whole HDD, so all the partitions and files (including recovery partition) were erased. I then installed back Windows 7 and partitioned the HDD.
However, since the incident, I'm unable to enter BIOS. I'd like to change boot sequence, because the laptop wants to boot from network, displays an error, and then boots from HDD and Windows 7 starts. I can access boot manager with F12 during boot, and the entries are (those aren't the exact names of course, except the first one):
1. ubuntu <- yes, that's how it's called. I guess it's a remnant of Linux Mint installation
2. booting from network
3. booting from HDD
4. booting from DVD
5. booting from USB
I tried the following things:
1. pressing F2 at boot. it used to work before the incident, now the laptop ignores it and proceeds to attempting boot from network, displays an error, and then boots from HDD.
2. using Novo button instead of power button, then choosing "BIOS setup" option - the laptop still proceeds to boot OR displays black screen and need to be shut down
3. removing boot entries using Ubuntu via USB stick [URL] ..... - I can't remove any entry, because after using
>efibootmgr -v
no list appears, and when I enter
>efibootmgr -B -b 001
or any other number, I get an error that the entry wasn't found.
I can't flash BIOS because Lenovo didn't provide the necessary file for this model. I also can't sent the laptop to repair because my warranty period ended two months ago.
So, I flashed the file attached here: [URL] .... and everything works now! the "ubuntu" entry has been automatically deleted and I was able to access BIOS and change the boot order.
Before installing ... write down MAC address of your LAN card, because it'll get deleted after BIOS update!
1. press windows key+R, type cmd and press Enter.....
2. in the opened command window, type ipconfig /all and press Enter, find the entry regarding your Ethernet connection and write down the physical address....
3. Flash BIOS update
4. After reboot follow this guide: [URL] .....

When the manual switch is set to wifi on and i press fn+f5, nothing happens. The wifi card is recognized in windows, i have the latest drivers from lenovo support page and so on. I have tried literary everything, including windows reinstall and still nothing. When I run windows diagnostics it also says "wifi options (or something like that) are not enabled" and i tried with readycomm which says the same thing.

AHCI is currently disabled on my computer and I wish to enable it to get the most performance out of it. It can easily be enabled via the windows registry but to get it working i need to be sure that AHCI is currently enabled in the BIOS aswell. When I enter the BIOS there just isnt any advanced options available, only time and date and other basics. How do i find out wether or not AHCI is enabled in the BIOS? How do i get access to the advanced options in the BIOS to turn on AHCI (if it isnt already enabled that is)?
I am unable to enter Bios settings on z580 with windows 8.1. I have tried everything including holding shift with shutdown and accsesing bios within windows, nothing seems to work and windows just strarts up normally. I also can't find a update to fix this problem.

I can externally attach the SSD to my other laptop and see the drive. I can create partitions, format them, etc. But none of that worked my original issue.
I have also updated to the latest BIOS version, tried turning off UEFI, no luck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a brand new z510 notebook, and I need to do a clean install of windows 8.1. Problem is that I can't seem to boot from CD or USB. I have entered the bios, and although the DVD rom drive works, and it shown correctly in BIOS, it does NOT allow me to add it to the boot list. Also, there is an option called 'Boot From USB' I enable that, and still the USB boot does not show up in the boot list. The only thing I have in the boot list is the 'Windows Boot Manager' and it lists the name of my drive.
I thought that maybe secure boot was the issue, but I tried disabling this, and is still doesn't let me do what I want. I just paid $800 for a top of the line laptop, and I can't even boot from a cdrom. Every computer I have had since the 1980s have allowed me to do just that without trouble.
